Hi guys. today I've got what may
possibly be a somewhat controversial video.
Although I hope that it won't be but that
is because today, I thought I would talk
about the book series that I've started
but have decided to not continue with. But before
I get into it, I just wanted to say that
it's not that I think these books are bad.
I definitely know that they aren't bad
books, because I know so many people
absolutely love some of these books. They
either just weren't really for me or I
read them so long ago, that I'm now just
kind of passed continuing with them.
So that is kind of the main reason behind
me deciding not to continue with these
series but if they are some of your
favourite series and you absolutely love them.
Do let me know because I am very, very
easily influenced by peoples favourite books.
So if you say that they're really great.
It is very likely that I will then
end up probably carrying on with it
because I want to give them a chance.
But without further ado I will just get
straight on into the series that it is very
likely that I will not be continuing with.
And also, I now have a 'Baymax' and I
think it is possibly the best purchase I've ever made in my life.
So the first book I have is
actually the first book in a trilogy and
it is 'The Madman's Daughter' by Megan Shepherd.
I actually loved this when I read it.
The only reason that I've decided not to
carry on with the trilogy, is simply
because this was very conclusive.
I was very, very satisfied with the ending.
It just kind of felt like I was reading a standalone.
The next book I have, I think is
the start of a duology but I did not
love it and therefore I'm not continuing
with it. And it is 'Trouble is a Friend of Mine'
by Stephanie Tromly. I didn't love this book.
I read it a few years ago and I just could not buy into it.
It was so far-fetched. Within the first few
hours of the two main characters meeting,
they had already broken into somewhere,
someone had already been shot and they
were manipulating the police and they
had not known each other prior to
meeting, literally a couple of hours before.
I just couldn't buy into it and I
just didn't really enjoy it because of that.
So I will not be continuing with this.
And as I said, I think it was a start of a
trilogy, duology. I'm not entirely sure.
Whatever it was, probably, definitely, not
going to be reading the next book.
The next series that I will not be
continuing with is 'The Girl at Midnight'
by Melissa Grey and I am devastated that I didn't enjoy this
because it sounded so perfect.
It's kind of this urban fantasy, set in an
alternate dimension but the girl has to
go through the New York library to get
there and that's just like my dream but
for some reason, I just couldn't get into this at all.
I can't quite remember why
because I read it quite a few years ago.
I don't know when this came out but I
literally pre-ordered it. It came out in
2015 and I pre-ordered it and read it
straight away because I was so exited about it
but I couldn't get into it.
I think it was quite slow and maybe a
little bit confusing but I know that
actually a lot of people really enjoyed this.
So don't let me put you off picking
it up but for me for some reason, it just
didn't quite do it for me.
I then have 'Cell 7' by Kerry Drewery and I read this in the summer.
It's this kind of, dystopian type thing where there's a
reality TV show and if you're arrested
you go into this reality show. The viewers
have to decide whether or not you're guilty.
It just didn't meet my expectations.
And my expectations were very high,
just because I thought it sounded fantastic.
I wasn't a big fan of the dialogue and
it felt quite choppy the way it was set up.
Yeah, wasn't the biggest fan and I
think this was the start of the series.
So if that is true, I probably won't be carrying on with it.
The next one, I feel as though is probably quite
controversial but it's not as bad as it may seem.
and that is 'City of Bones' by Cassandra Clare.
And I have read 'City of Bones' and
the second one which is 'City of Ashes'
I think and I really enjoyed them.
They were a lot of fun but I didn't love them
as much as everybody else has seemed to.
And I think that's because I started them last year.
I know for a fact, that if I had
read these when they first came out, I would
have been all over it. I would have been
completely in love with it but I just
missed all of that hype. I know I'm
definitely going to read 'City of Glass',
which I believe this is third book and then I really
want to read 'The Infernal Devices' but
I've heard a rumour, that you can read the
first three books in 'The Mortal Instruments' series as a trilogy.
So if that is true, I think that is possibly
what I'm going to do because I did enjoy it.
I think I think both of them a 4 out of 5 stars.
I feel as though really missing out on something huge.
So I'm going to read 'City of Glass' which is the third book.
And then I'll read 'The Infernal Devices' and then if it is
true that you can just kind of read them
as two separate trilogies,
I think that is why I'm going to stop. If not, I may reconsider.
I then have 'Girl Online' by Zoe Sugg
which is the first book in a trilogy and I actually
really enjoyed this when I read it.
It was really sweet, really fun but again it
felt very conclusive. I was just very
satisfied with the ending and I don't
really feel the desire or need to read
the next two books. I think if I had read
this when I was about thirteen, I would
have jumped at the chance to continue with it
but at the moment not so much.
Another series or I think possibly
trilogy, that I just do not think I will
continue with, is 'Rebel of the Sands' by Alwyn Hamilton.
And I know so many people love
this and I'm so gutted that I don't but I
really, really didn't. I found it very
slow, just a bit tedious and I just
didn't think it was unique. I felt as
though reading this that I had read it
ten times before and I just wasn't really
into it. This literally took me I think
two weeks to get through. That is the
longest time it has taken me to get
through a book in a very, very long time.
When I finished this, I kind of had the mindset that I might
pick up the next book if I was feeling it
when it came around but it just came out
and I just don't have any desire to pick it up.
I'm so sad because I know so many people love it
and also the cover is so gorgeous.
Another book that just really did not do anything for me,
is 'Ink and Bone' by Rachel Caine and I
again was so excited about this.
I pre-ordered it when it first came out.
I was super excited for the release because
it is all about libraries and books and magic
and that just has my name written all over it
but I couldn't get into it at all.
Again this took me so long to get through.
I'm pretty sure it also put me into a reading slump.
And I just found it a bit tedious. Again I was just kind of
bored and I feel so guilty for saying that.
Again I read this quite a few years ago,
so I can't quite remember why I
didn't love it but I think I felt as
though nothing really happened. It didn't
really go anywhere and it just took me
absolutely ages to get through. The next book I
have, again is another very popular one
and it is the start of a trilogy and
it is 'The Winners Curse' by Marie Rutkoski.
And I didn't hate this book but I didn't love it.
I think there's a very similar theme going through them,
is that I just found it a little bit tedious.
I didn't love it, I couldn't really get
into it all that much. But I remember
getting to the end of it and reading the
last few chapters and me being so
excited and just being like, I have to carry on.
But I left it too long and I now have
absolutely no idea what it was that made
me so excited. I cannot to remember
the ending of it at all. So I probably won't
be carrying on this because if I
didn't enjoy it the first time around
and only enjoyed the last bit. Then I
probably won't enjoy the rest of the
series and also I would probably have to
reread this, to be able to understand
what was going on in the next two books.
So I probably won't be doing that.
And the last series that I will not be
continuing with, is one that I hate that
I have to say that I'm not going to be
continuing with it because so many people
absolutely love it and I just hate
myself for not loving it but I just
didn't fall in love with it and that is 'Shatter Me'
by Tahereh Mafi. I just felt very
indifferent with this book. I didn't love it,
I didn't hate it. I just didn't really feel
anything for it. I cannot remember for
the life of me, what happened in this book
but I know so many people love it.
So it kills me that I didn't love it.
I'm still undecided on whether or not I will
continue with this trilogy. Unless the
second book is apparently mind-blowingly incredible,
it is very, very unlikely
that I will continue with this trilogy.
And I hate that, so much.
So those are all of the series and
trilogies and things like that, that it is
very unlikely that I will be
continuing with and I hate that I'm not
continuing with it because there is
something so satisfying about finishing
a series and completing something but
I just didn't really get along with these.
They either just weren't for me or
as I said, I waited too long to continue
with it but if you really love some of these
series and if they're some of your absolute favourites, do let me know.
I will leave the links to my Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr,
Goodreads, Blog and Snapchat, in the
description box below. So feel free to me
on any of those, if you would like and I hope
you are having the most wonderful day
and I'm so, so sorry if I didn't enjoy one of your favourite series.
Bye!
