What Wild at Heart Means to Me - An Essay - Duration: 5:34.

There are probably experiences that can be categorized as: the reasons we choose to be

here.

First kiss.

Napping together naked after a day in the hot springs.

Our drunken walk in the moonlight on the beach in South Carolina.

On the balcony at the symphony as they played the final minutes of Rhapsody on a Theme by

Paganini.

The whole family lying under the stars at Lake Powell, laughing hysterically as I did

comedy.

And my Dad, playing prelude number 5 at my sister's wedding.

These moments, are like fingerprints, specific and unique, but absolutely common to every

one of us.

And that dichotomy presents a challenge when talking about moments like the last scene

in Wild at Heart.

We feel it as a fire in our chests, because over the course of 4 seasons we've come

to know these characters as family.

As friends.

As ourselves.

And without that earned empathy, the dichotomy can render those moments cliche - as with

so many pop songs on the radio, or romantic comedies with characters that were carved

with a hammer and chisel.

Wild at Heart brings something up for me that I have probably been ignoring.

You see, I've been single now for a long time, and not particularly suffering over

it either.

I work.

I spend time with friends.

I create things I find meaningful, this channel is very much a part of that.

But life articulated falls somewhere on a spectrum between pull tab to open, and poetry.

And when I consider my list of meaningful moments, I can't help but notice that all

of them were shared with other people.

Life is just more rich with love and intimacy.

Which leads me to the question, how did I get here?

Well I think there are a few parts.

The first is...

I have become too adept at managing my own loneliness.

Loneliness is confusing.

I've spent contented years single and I have been on the couch next to a woman I loved

deeply and felt like she was a million miles away.

When I was younger, loneliness felt like a disease.

An ailment in need of a cure.

And what would follow when I realized I'd been infected was a barely contained and rarely

successful frenzy for the antidote.

But I think loneliness is actually biology and part of the human experience.

We're social animals.

We're built to desire connection, as we are built to desire food.

We get lonely, like we get hungry.

The big difference is, no one ever sits around wondering why a cheeseburger doesn't love

them.

Am I'm just not good enough to have the cheeseburger?

Will the cheeseburger always find someone better than me?

Does the cheeseburger not think I'm pretty enough?

See if you don't ask the questions, you never have to start making up the wrong answers.

At best I give my loneliness a indifferent nod and then I go and take a nap.

Sometimes though, I feel the weight of my own expectations.

Maybe I shouldn't be single.

Should/Shouldn't.

Those words can be so poisonous.

And then I fire up a dating website.

But I can never seem to muster the necessary ambition or hope.

I see the whole arc, not the next moment.

I don't look at woman's dating profile and think to myself "she looks like someone

I could have a cup of coffee and a conversation with."

I look at it and think, "she looks nice...and I'll bet we could have a couple great year

together, and maybe a couple of tough ones, followed by one really painful one where we

try and keep everything going, followed by total collapse and then a rebuilding period

where I try and put the pieces back together."

I know, this is a defense mechanism.

An error in perspective caused by memory.

In college I used to smoke a pack a day, and in trying to quit discovered an unfortunate

phenomena.

I would quit, and fail, and quit, and fail.

And the longer things went on, the more I felt like maybe I was never going to be able

to quit.

Maybe, I was just a smoker.

With every relapse, I was writing a story, and building a case against myself.

Until...one day.

I stopped for good.

And that story just fell away.

Memory is a story I tell myself, not quite as non-fiction as I'd like to believe.

Really more, "inspired by true events."

But I don't long for what is gone.

I have loved as deeply as I could.

I have suffered in its loss.

The rest is a story, with only some basis in reality.

My favorite form of art is art that reflects life.

And there's a line from the movie 'Her' that always comes back to me.

Two characters are speaking and one says to the other:

You know what, I can over-think everything and find a million ways to doubt myself.

And since I've been alone, I've been really thinking about that part of myself and, I've

just come to realize that, we're only here briefly.

And while I'm here, I wanna allow myself joy.

Wild at Heart • S04E06 • TPN's Buffy Guide - Duration: 8:51.

...Oz….don't you love me?

Summary Buffy is out hunting on campus and slays a

vamp who has no appreciation for righteous punning.

As she wishes for a more competent adversary the camera pulls back in one of the best reveals

on the show.

There are many many great moments in the series that act as icons for what the show does.

But this is probably one of my favorites.

The damsel's back is turned.

The evil creature of the night lords over her monologuing, and our expectations are

instantly subverted.

That night the gang is commenting about how the Bronze is such a comfort as

Giles, still in the midst of his midlife crisis awkwardly shoehorns himself into the Bronze-going

Scoobies.

It is positively heart-warming to watch Giles try and fit in due to his desperate need for

a social life.

Onstage comes Veruca and again we see Oz's clear preoccupation with her.

The next day Oz and Willow wake in his bed.

It's a lovely little scene.

We see such easy comfortable intimacy between them.

Willow speaks softly and plays with Oz's arm hair.

I love his line when she's dreaming.

"Come back to me."

Oz is wolfing that evening and Willow says there's a wika group on campus she wants

to checkout.

They meet for lunch and the only table open is one with Veruca sitting there.

At first Oz resists but Veruca seems open and inviting.

The two of them talk shop for a moment.

"What do you use?

A fifty or a 120."

Star Trek had this thing the called techno babble.

The writer's would just put that flag in a script and there was a small team of guys

whose job it was to insert stuff that sounded convincing.

"Captain we've got a problem with the phase inducers...or some other damn thing."

I wondered if Oz's lines occasionally had a *band babble* flag.

Willow shows up, tries to hang, and things become slightly awkward.

That night Oz locks himself up for wolf time but the wolf has other ideas.

Oz wolf chases down professor Walsh who ends up in a hairy crossfire.

See what I did there

The next morning he wakes up in the woods.

And Veruca's reveal brings a hard truth for Oz.

"You know what I am.

You've known since the first time you saw me."

Veruca nearly seduces to Oz in human form and Oz manages to hold his urges at bay.

He returns to his dorm to look for news of any damage he and Veruca did that night and

Willow shows up in a new outfit her insecurity bought for her.

She speaks as frankly to him as anyone has at this point, telling him she knows she's

been overthinking things.

"Maybe you could help me stop.

I'd really appreciate anything you could do."

Ugh.

That is SO naked.

Please show me I matter to you.

Please?

I can feel her insecurity in my chest.

And then...

"You don't want to?"

Willow reaches out to Xander for support, something she really hasn't done much of

since the events of Season 2.

To some degree after Lovers Walk, Willow's friendship with Buffy supplanted her's with

Xander.

Buffy, on the trail of the wolf attacks finds out Oz got out the night before.

He tells her nothing happened.

A music montage ensues and we see Oz juggling with a significant decision.

The cuts tell us he's weighing what to do.

Should he call Willow?

Tell her whats going on?

Confess?

He picks up the phone.

"So this is why you called me here."

Oz attempts to reason with Veruca and get her in the cage with him while the two of

them boil in their incoming wolf hormones.

She is having none of it and appeals one last time to the animal.

"Did you want me?"

He succumbs and the next morning…

There are so many layers to the fallout between Oz and Willow.

Her insecurities being validated.

"I knew.

I knew you jerk."

Their history rearing it's head "I know how it feels.

I remember."

- "What so this is payback."

God this is a good scene, carried by the character's history together and two wonderful performances.

It's a scene that visualizes in a short time many intrinsic struggles to relationships,

including our desperation causing us to barrel forward and say things we don't mean.

It's an unfortunate aspect to our humanity.

We need time to process, most of all in the moments where we don't have it, and damage

is being done.

Willow reveals to Buffy what's been going on with Oz and Veruca, and Buffy takes Oz

hunting for her.

When she leaves, Willow once again turns to magic.

Oz and Buffy find Veruca's bait in the woods and realize she's after Willow.

Willow can't bring herself to complete the revenge spell.

Veruca attacks and wolf Oz kills her before getting tranq'd by Buffy.

And then...no.

Not yet.

Lets come back to it.

I have to say again, working on the reviews always gives me newfound appreciation of the

episodes.

There are a short list of scenes and episodes in Buffy that are transcendent.

That elevate beyond the show itself.

And I've always thought the final scene in Wild at Heart was one of them.

But to me the scene felt awkwardly paired to an episode that was beneath it.

I could never totally sort out why.

Over the course of three and a half seasons, the wolf/id stuff had been well covered but

never really developed into anything more interesting.

None of the wolf episodes have been favorites of mine.

"You're a girl."

And this episode, other than the final scene, felt a bit perfunctory to me.

A necessity given Seth Green had a movie deal he wanted to take and the producers let him

leave.

This episode was where the clipping was made.

And it was done in a way I found frustrating, and justified my frustration by saying it

violated character.

Oz would never cheat.

I couldn't really have been more wrong, but in my defense, I was looking for someone

to blame.

I'll get into that in a minute.

Oz's preoccupation with Veruca has been sprinkled throughout the first few episodes

of this season, if a little awkwardly at times.

But the broad strokes of the episode were strongly foreshadowed in Halloween, where

the gangs deepest fears were manifested.

Oz feared he wouldn't be able to control the wolf and that he might hurt Willow.

And Willow feared that Oz would leave him.

"Oz, don't leave me."

Within the episode itself there is also some foreshadowing I found clever.

The opening in the Bronze very elegantly lays things out.

Willow is going on about how reassuring the Bronze is due to its predictability and Oz's

dialogue ties him metaphorically to the Bronze.

: "The bronze is like a comfy blanky."

"I thought I was your comfy blanky."

At which point Giles shows up at the Bronze to hang...for the first time...suggesting

that no matter what - all things can change.

Including the Bronze and Oz.

And maybe, Oz's impulsivity and poor communication might not be as out of character as it seems.

Don't forget, in Phases when he found out he was a werewolf, rather than confiding in

Willow, Buffy, and Giles, all educated in these matters he tried to take matters into

his own hands.

Ultimately putting Willow in danger.

In Beauty and Beasts he internalized his frustration over the wolf and pushed Willow away.

"Get away from me."

In reality, his decision to call Veruca to the cage instead of Willow has been pretty

well set up.

Oz feels ashamed of the Wolf.

It's also possible he'd just planned to lock Veruca in there with him.

Earlier in the episode Buffy even suggested she might capture Veruca and bring her to

him.

And Oz believes he can control or ignore the id.

"Or you're the wolf all the time and this human face is just your disguise."

That it is separate from him, not a part of who he is.

And then his ID consumes him.

You might say, he's become an object in the world at the mercy of its circumstances.

The philosophy is always present.

"She's like me.

I didn't have a choice."

"But you did.

You could've told somebody."

"You don't have a good choice but you have a choice."

So I think I have revised my feelings about this episode.

I think it's kind of brilliant.

It's just very hard to watch the ones you love doing wrong.

But dear God do I appreciate the show's willingness to go there.

And once again, we see Willow resorting to magic to try and manage her feelings.

At this point, a well established pattern.

She stops herself but it's significant to note that making the right decision doesn't

bring her any relief from pain.

In fact, Oz leaves.

This episode is also significant in that Whedon and company decided it didn't need to relate

to Buffy either directly or metaphorically, a rare occurrence for the show.

In the DVD commentary for the episode, Whedon said that they spent time trying to figure

out how it would tie to her, and finally decided it wasn't necessary.

Buffy could still be strong and save the day but ultimately, the episode was just about

Oz and Willow.

And that was enough.

As stunning as the final scene may be, as beautiful and poignantly acted, that really

may be all there is to say.

There is no subtext.

No hidden meaning.

This moment is not for us.

It is for Oz and Willow.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil HD Review - Duration: 5:44.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is what happens when you use all of your best ideas on your first

game, then use all of the left over ideas to make a second.

Seeds has the components of a great game, but the overly convoluted levels and generic

hallways between set pieces ruin the atmosphere.

The first Turok game used bottleneck areas to seemlessly dump old data and load new areas,

but those intermediate areas were always visually unique and fun to navigate.

When every transition between areas is a generic cubic hallway with right angle turns and identicle

textures, the player gets completely fucked.

The intricate levels of Turok 2 encourage and reward exploration, which is important,

since if you miss a single key or objective you might as well uninstall the game, throw

away your computer, burn down your house, and start life over as a transexual prostitute

with a heart of gold and buttocks of ghonarea.

In Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, you play as chaffed nippled, puka-bead afficianado with a girlfriend

so pale and baby faced, she resembles a highly evolved sperm with bionic shoulders.

This butter faced corridor of meat serves three purposes.

First, to provide back story for each level the player enters; which include a rotting

city intertwined with a literal river of piss, a hole in the ground full of retards, mud,

As in most turok games, the players arsonal is completely rediculous and most weapons

reduce enemies into the sort of steaming piles of giblets and gravy you don't usually see

outside of a german airport.

You get a shotgun that shoots ricoshetting explosive shells, a chakram that cuts bitches

in half like peanut butter sammiches, and a weapon so slutty it gives even the ugliest

of foes explosive head.

Unfortunalty, improved weapons don't replace their underpowered counterparts.

So, like a pervert with high standards using a fecalphiliac version of tinder, expect to

spend alot of time scrolling past shit you're uninterested in.

Like Turok Dinosaur Hunter, Turok 2 Seeds of Evil includes an optional super weapon

that the player can assemble one piece at a time as they play the game.

But this time around, after going through all the trouble of unlocking and clearing

miniature gauntlets of super tough enemies, the player recieves "the nuke", which has

no effect on the final bosses and is too powerful to waste on regular enemies.

In the first game you could only hit the final boss with the chronscepter once, but it wasn't

a big deal since finding the pieces of the chronoscepter was genuinly fun.

Assembling the nuke is not.

I'd rather assemble a windchime with my dick during a hurricane.

Despite being a bigger game overall, Turok 2 doesn't have any more bosses than the previous

games and they aren't particularly good.

These bosses include a ceiling, a bug, another bug, and jenniffer hepler after losing some

weight.

At the end of most levels, you'll warp back to the begining because you missed an objective.

On the off chance you actually find all that pointless shit, you'll defend energy totems

from enemies that you must have called by their sister's name during sex, because they

won't even look at you.

In each level, the player must find a feather, then use it to tickle the butthole of a ghost

until they grant you a special ability.

And by special, I mean retarted.

These glorified keys range from auto jumping quickly between areas, auto jumping slowly

between areas, swimming in piss, and walking on piss.

Luckily, the addition of ledge grabbing greatly improves the player's manueverability and

makes navigating instant death pools more forgiving.

In terms of multiplayer, turok 2 is a hard sell.

While you little babies were busy collecting autism logos in banjo kablooey, I was busy

spanking my monkey in turok 2 multiplayer and also in the cubbard under the sink.

While a glitchy co-op mode was available in the original game with cheats, the only way

to share the experiance of the turok 2 single player with a friend is to spoon naked with

them while they play.

At least, that's how I like to do it.

The hundreds of hours I spent playing Turok 2 multiplayer on the nintendo 64 engrained

in me an appreciation of slower paced, thoughtful matches.

Unfortunately, competative multiplayer of this new port is currently a twitch fest where

you won't be able to hit anyone.

Enemies strafe too fast to reliably hit with small arms, and most matches boiled down to

who would spawn with the cerebral bore first, rather than who was best.

Monkey tag is still lots of fun though.

In monkey tag, one player transforms into the type cuddly little chimp you don't usually

see outside of instructional taiwanese cooking videos, and has to reach a goal that everyone

else can see.

The goal moves every time the monkey reaches it or is killed by other players.

While actually shooting the monkey is a bit of a mess right now, going ape shit, and running

under other players legs is still as fun as it always ways.

Tons of maps are included, and they're just as fun as they were back in the day.

The asking price of 20 dollars is a bit much, so I'd suggest waiting for a half off sale

before buying it.

Overall, turk 2 is ok, but not as good as the original turk from scrubs.

Severe Weather Update: Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, 29 March 2017 - Duration: 2:47.

Hello from the Bureau of Meteorology.

Overnight, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie was downgraded to a tropical low while tracking

southwards over the Central Coast and Whitsundays and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts.

But while the system's no longer of cyclone strength, the threats haven't yet passed.

Warnings associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie will now be covered by Severe Weather

Warnings and we have one for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

So what are we seeing at the moment?

Well we've been seeing damaging winds, with peak gusts around 100km/h this morning.

And they're expected to extend slowly south today as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie takes

a turn towards the south-southeast.

Into Thursday and even Friday the threat will extend down as far as parts of northern New

South Wales.

But the threat in New South Wales is not just from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, it's also

from a very strong cold front that will move across the State on Thursday, and we can see

the strong southerly winds behind that cold front here.

So together, these two systems may bring damaging winds and dangerous surf conditions.

And to cover the upcoming severe weather, the warning now extends down through parts

of South East Queensland and into New South Wales.

Now coming back to that heavy rainfall.

Areas of heavy rain are expected to continue about the Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central

Highlands and Coalfields districts today, with widespread daily rainfall totals of 150

to 250 mm possible, but significantly higher localised falls are also possible.

This rainfall is likely be very intense at times, leading to a risk of localised flash

flooding, and with so much rain falling we already have Flood Warnings for catchments

about the Central Coast and also the adjacent inland parts.

Now the focus of the heavy rain then shifts south during Thursday and Friday, with further

daily rainfall totals around 200 mm possible.

And the rainfall is likely to lead to major river flooding over a very broad area this

week.

So we do have a Flood Watch extending all the way from Ayr down to around Coffs Harbour in

New South Wales, and just extending inland as well.

And this Flood Watch provides early advice for possible future flooding along all these

rivers and creeks.

So even though the cyclone has been downgraded to a tropical low, the dangers of this system

are far from over.

Stay up-to-date with all the latest forecasts and warning information from the Bureau's

website and app, and please continue to follow advice from local emergency services.

What Wild at Heart Means to Me - An Essay - Duration: 5:34.

There are probably experiences that can be categorized as: the reasons we choose to be

here.

First kiss.

Napping together naked after a day in the hot springs.

Our drunken walk in the moonlight on the beach in South Carolina.

On the balcony at the symphony as they played the final minutes of Rhapsody on a Theme by

Paganini.

The whole family lying under the stars at Lake Powell, laughing hysterically as I did

comedy.

And my Dad, playing prelude number 5 at my sister's wedding.

These moments, are like fingerprints, specific and unique, but absolutely common to every

one of us.

And that dichotomy presents a challenge when talking about moments like the last scene

in Wild at Heart.

We feel it as a fire in our chests, because over the course of 4 seasons we've come

to know these characters as family.

As friends.

As ourselves.

And without that earned empathy, the dichotomy can render those moments cliche - as with

so many pop songs on the radio, or romantic comedies with characters that were carved

with a hammer and chisel.

Wild at Heart brings something up for me that I have probably been ignoring.

You see, I've been single now for a long time, and not particularly suffering over

it either.

I work.

I spend time with friends.

I create things I find meaningful, this channel is very much a part of that.

But life articulated falls somewhere on a spectrum between pull tab to open, and poetry.

And when I consider my list of meaningful moments, I can't help but notice that all

of them were shared with other people.

Life is just more rich with love and intimacy.

Which leads me to the question, how did I get here?

Well I think there are a few parts.

The first is...

I have become too adept at managing my own loneliness.

Loneliness is confusing.

I've spent contented years single and I have been on the couch next to a woman I loved

deeply and felt like she was a million miles away.

When I was younger, loneliness felt like a disease.

An ailment in need of a cure.

And what would follow when I realized I'd been infected was a barely contained and rarely

successful frenzy for the antidote.

But I think loneliness is actually biology and part of the human experience.

We're social animals.

We're built to desire connection, as we are built to desire food.

We get lonely, like we get hungry.

The big difference is, no one ever sits around wondering why a cheeseburger doesn't love

them.

Am I'm just not good enough to have the cheeseburger?

Will the cheeseburger always find someone better than me?

Does the cheeseburger not think I'm pretty enough?

See if you don't ask the questions, you never have to start making up the wrong answers.

At best I give my loneliness a indifferent nod and then I go and take a nap.

Sometimes though, I feel the weight of my own expectations.

Maybe I shouldn't be single.

Should/Shouldn't.

Those words can be so poisonous.

And then I fire up a dating website.

I see the whole arc, not the next moment.

I don't look at woman's dating profile and think to myself "she looks like someone

I could have a cup of coffee and a conversation with."

I look at it and think, "she looks nice...and I'll bet we could have a couple great year

together, and maybe a couple of tough ones, followed by one really painful one where we

try and keep everything going, followed by total collapse and then a rebuilding period

where I try and put the pieces back together."

You don't have to say it.

I know, this is a defense mechanism.

An error in perspective caused by memory.

In college I used to smoke a pack a day, and in trying to quit discovered an unfortunate

phenomena.

I would quit, and fail, and quit, and fail.

And the longer things went on, the more I felt like maybe I was never going to be able

to quit.

Maybe, I was just a smoker.

With every relapse, I was writing a story, and building a case against myself.

Until...one day.

I stopped for good.

And that story just fell away.

Memory is a story I tell myself, not quite as non-fiction as I'd like to believe.

Really more, "inspired by true events."

But I don't long for what is gone.

I have loved as deeply as I could.

I have suffered in its loss.

And I have done the work, and I hope that I am a better man today than I was.

But the truth is that the only thing I can know for certain is that right now I'm sitting

here typing these words into a laptop, soon to be reading them into a microphone.

And you are sitting here listening.

The rest is a story, with only some basis in reality.

My favorite form of art is art that reflects life.

And there's a line from the movie 'Her' that always comes back to me.

Two characters are speaking and one says to the other:

You know what, I can over-think everything and find a million ways to doubt myself.

And since I've been alone, I've been really thinking about that part of myself and, I've

just come to realize that, we're only here briefly.

And while I'm here, I wanna allow myself joy.

So...fuck it.
