How samurai movies are wrong | A lesson in Aikido - Duration: 8:23.
In classic samurai movies,
sometimes they fight like this.
You've seen something like that, right?
But, that's not how they fought in real life.
We're here in Tokyo today with Kobayashi-sensei who's an Aikido master.
And he's going to teach us how to defend ourselves
and turn the attack power back on our attacker.
This program also offers a translator.
So if you wanna try it out-

Hello.
I'm the representative of Ooyama Aikido club, Ken Kobayashi.
I have two guests from Wa-Oh! JAPAN today so I'll show them how to practice.
You shouldn't hate your opponents when you fight otherwise they'll hate you, too.
So you should fight without hatred and have smile on your face at the end of the fight with your opponents.
That's what's great about Aikido in my opinion.
Today, I'm going to teach the basic movements starting from Ukemi (falling techniques),
footwork called tenkan (180 degree pivot to avoid attack), and some tricks.
This is Irimi-tenkan (180 degree pivot to avoid attack).
You bring your rear foot forward, and pivot.
With this footwork, you can do this.
Sorry.
Like this.
This is the ideal way to finish the opponent.
Next, I'm going to show you Irimi (getting close to the opponent)
while also dodging the sword.
If you don't do Irimi, you'll get hit.
Your arm might get slashed, too.
Make sure you turn your body sideways.
Like this.
And grab the sword.
And throw him/her down.
Back in time, we had to fight against people with real swords.
In classic samurai movies,
sometimes main character fights like this when he's surrounded.
You've seen something like that, right?
But, actually
you aim for the weak points.
One of them is here. (Between the thumb and pointer finger.)
Just cutting here makes the opponent unable to hold the sword.
And just stab to finish.
Or
when the opponent strikes at you like this,
dodge and slash the neck.
When you slash the neck blood spurts out, and you use that opportunity
to stab again to finish.
It's really not flashy like the movies.
Even if your opponent tries to push your sword to the side and then attack you,
again,
just stab to finish them.
If your opponent raises their sword,
stab and it's over.
It's really simple and quick.
Otherwise, your sword won't last long.
For example, if you fight like this-
Let's fight like a samurai movie.
Your sword will break right away.
So, in a real fight,
the moment your sword comes out of the saya (sheath), the fight should be over.
You shouldn't swing the sword around.
As soon as your opponent enters within your range of attack,
you pull out your sword.
Also, you shouldn't let your opponents know the length of your sword
(and thus, the range of your attack).
So you hold your sword like this so it's hard for your opponents to figure it out.
Well then, let's begin the practice.

We call this moment when someone starts moving "okori."
Based on the okori (their movements) we prepare for a punch, a kick, a tackle, etc.
In order to be able to do that, we practice.
How do you deal with diagonal strike?
In most cases with a diagonal strike- Right, like that.
Here, attack me.
We go inside the opponent's personal space.
Once you get inside, they can't block you.
I couldn't do anything.

If I go back,
then you stab.
One step forward.
In sword fighting, this is a basic movement.

That's a powder made out of soybeans
It's really delicious, you see it in lots of Japanese desserts

It's really hard to talk with it in my mouth
The fresh, sweet strawberries in the middle
are such a good balance to the simple taste of the mochi
and the kinako powder actually gives it a slight salty taste which is nice!

Freedom Caucus, Trump reach 'agreement in principle' on healthcare

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said Wednesday night he and President
Trump have come to an �agreement in principle� on a plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare,
just one day before a highly anticipated House vote on the bill.
�The president and I came to an agreement in principle,� Meadows said during an interview
with Fox News�s Sean Hannity, adding that he was still ironing out a few final details
with the White House.
�I think what we're trying to do now is make sure that our agreement is actually something
that can be executed in a way that passes the Senate,� he added.
�There's still work to be done, but I can tell you that the president is all engaged."
The round-the-clock negotiations between the White House, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and
the ultraconservative Freedom Caucus have centered on adding to the bill a repeal of
ObamaCare's �essential health benefits,� as well as other insurance regulations in
Title I of the existing health law.
But those changes have now alienated some centrist Republicans, who met with Ryan and
his leadership team for more than two hours Wednesday night to discuss the impact of moving
the bill to the right.
After the meeting, one of the leaders of the centrist Tuesday Group, Rep. Charlie Dent
(R-Pa.), announced he was opposed to the legislation, warning that the bill would cause too many
Americans to lose insurance coverage.
�I believe this bill, in its current form, will lead to the loss of coverage and make
insurance unaffordable for too many Americans,� Dent said in a statement, �particularly
for low-to-moderate income and older individuals.�
Meadows said Trump has been the crucial factor in working toward a deal and even personally
called him during a Freedom Caucus meeting Wednesday night.
A GOP source said the White House has offered to include repeal of the essential health
benefits in the bill.
�Our request has been consistent about Title I and essential health benefits and so that's
really what we're discussing,� Meadows said earlier in the day as he left a meeting with
Freedom Caucus colleagues.
�We're encouraged just based on the real willingness of not only the White House but
our leadership to make this bill better,� he added, noting he hopes to work around the
clock to hopefully have a final deal by around noon Thursday.
Meadows has changed his comments markedly since earlier in the day Wednesday, when he
pledged that leaders lacked the votes to pass the bill and called on them to �start over.�
Conservatives say repeal of the essential health benefits, which mandate what an insurance
plan must cover, is necessary to bring down premiums.
Republican leaders had been wary, though, given that it is in doubt whether repeal of
those regulations would be allowed under Senate rules that are preventing a Democratic filibuster.
Sources said the House GOP has gotten new information that including repeal of the essential
health benefits would not be fatal to the entire bill in the Senate, though the provision
could still be challenged under Senate rules.
But Democrats are warning that repeal of the essential health benefits will not be permitted.
"What the proponents aren�t telling conservative House Republicans is that the plan to repeal
essential health benefits will almost certainly not be permissible under Senate reconciliation
rules," said Matt House, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).
"It will require 60 votes to repeal these protections, and the votes just aren�t there
in the Senate.� Some Freedom Caucus members are more skeptical
a deal can happen.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) indicated that the White House is only offering repeal of the
essential health benefits and not other insurance regulations that conservatives say must be
repealed.
"We�ve said many times that essential health benefits by themselves would not be enough,�
added Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.).
"There�s no deal in the offing,� Amash added.
�We don�t have any language on anything.
We�re not sure what kind of language we�ll see."
Earlier in the day Trump won over conservative Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) by pledging a Senate
vote on an amendment to add repeal of essential health benefits.
But Meadows said that a promised Senate vote is not good enough and that changes must be
made in the House.
�There is no denying why he has made so many deals,� Meadows said of Trump.
�I thought I was a good dealmaker; I'm nothing compared
to the president.�

not this doesn't come out until August 25th
ok, so that's like 5 months almost to the day
from now
ok, but they did release
their first trailer
it's about 1:10, 1:15 seconds long
yes i've seen it and yes it excited me
OH MY GOD i can not wait for this thing to come on
ok, but apparently, not every one feels that way

when i saw this trailer
i got really really excited
and can not wait to see the movie
but apparently, when some people saw the trailer
what they did was
they got pissed
because thereare white people cast
in this show

to what color the people was

if you're watching a trailer
and that's what you're focused on

i did not think about race, color, creed nothing

but there are people bitching

what color someone is, that's playing a part in this movie
then you are focused on the wrong thing
you should be excited that,
we get a live adaptation
of this anime, manga series
or monga, how ever you prefer to pronounce it

Netflix is whitewashing the show
i don't see it that way

nails it

ok, i don't care if they're black, white, asian, whatever
and that's the way i think people, should think
i mean as long as these people nail the parts, what difference does it make what their race is
yes i know that the series came from Japan
it is a Japanese series, ok
But that's not even really the point
i mean
it's not like there's
no Asian people in the movie
Honestly i'm suprised, that no one has been bitching
and my son pointed this out to me by the way
he said, mom they cast a black guy in this one part in the movie
and i'm just waiting
for the backlash
well he was close. He did get a backlash
which is what he was expecting
but it didn't have to do with the black guy
it had to do with the Asian people not being in it
or not enough Asian people being in it

because at this point, all we've seen is

because they don't have enough Asian people in it

the biggest portion of us fans are tickled to death to get this
and we hope
that Netflix does a
kick ass job with it
which you know, they do have a good track record so
we're actually excited about this

probably shouldnot even be allowed to watch the show

Placement of a Hearing-Impaired Child in the Classroom: A Parent Checklist - Duration: 3:10.
Hello, this presentation is to inform parents and caregivers about a simple checklist that they can use
when considering a placement for a hearing-impaired child in a mainstream classroom setting.
so this checklist is really designed to ensure that a child is being placed in the most conducive environment for
their learning. It's mainly used in an observational setting. When a parent or caregiver goes into the
classroom and observes the various criteria on the checklist in the classroom, they can either check it off,
and say that their classroom meets this criteria, or say no it does not and they can look for another area in the
school, or in another school that might better provide that service for the child. So when placing a child with a
hearing-impairment, there are many factors to be considered to ensure that this child will have the best
environment for their learning, the best environment to support their learning needs and give them the resources
that they need to help with their hearing impairment. The parent or caregiver wants to look at the physical
environment in the building as a whole, or the classroom itself. The parent/caregiver wants to look at the teacher
and their teaching style. Does that teacher have experience teaching children with hearing-impairments,
or is this their first child with a hearing impairment in their class. Do they have access to the resources to
effectively teach a child with a hearing impairment. They would also want to look at the attitude of the school
towards students with special needs. How is their program for special needs? Do they have an emphasis
on treating all students the same and with the respect they deserve? You want to look at information regarding
the student and their special needs, and the special services offered within that school district.
The full checklist has many criteria under each of these categories.
This checklist really, like I said, aims to provide and help parents/caregivers find the most appropriate placement
for a hearing-impaired child in a mainstream classroom setting.
Remember that no placement is final.
Always bring up concerns to the child study team or the individualized education plan (IEP) meetings,
if something is questioned, concerning, or just needs to shed light on.
Always trust your instincts as a parent or caregiver, and advocate for your child's best interests.

The answer is "What's going on?"
Now, this is a very typical phrase in English and it's used around the world in so many countries.
It basically means "what's happening?" or "can you update me?" "what's going on?"
and what happens in English often in native language is the "g" at the end of "going" tends to disappear.
Now, this is very typical in American English but us Brits do it too especially in native speed language.
So we say "What's goinon" and the "g" pretty much disappears.
So let's try a little bit of practice together now.
We'll start slowly.
Please repeat after me.

Let's try it a little bit faster this time.

Also notice how the intonation goes up and down for the questions so "What's goinon?"
You can hear the intonation changing in English.
