Youtube daily report Jul 15 2017

[INTRO ♪]

It can be terrifying to wake up in the middle of the night to a pair of glowing eyes staring

at you from the darkness,

only to realize that it's just your cat.

… Or is it?

Lots of animals, including alligators, fruit bats, and dogs, all have a shiny structure

in their eyes that gives them better night vision, which also causes this creepy glow.

The layer of tissue at the back of your eyes is called the retina, and it's made up of

special light-sensitive cells.

Light that hits those cells gets turned into an electrical signal that's sent along the

optic nerve, which sits behind the retina.

That signal travels all the way to the brain.

And light that misses those cells isn't turned into a signal, so your brain can't detect it.

Many species across the animal kingdom have this same basic eye structure, from reptiles

to birds to other mammals like cats.

One way animals have evolved to see better is to have more of those light-sensitive cells

in each eye.

Humans, for example, have over ninety-five million of them per retina.

But a lot of animals—especially nocturnal animals whose eyes have to work well at night—

have another way of detecting more light.

They have a structure called the tapetum lucidum, which is Latin for "bright tapestry."

It's a layer of tissue that sits behind the retina and acts like a mirror.

The tapetum lucidum reflects light that gets through the retina back at those light-sensitive

cells, giving them another chance to detect it.

But some of the reflected light flies back out the animals' pupils, which is what makes

it seem like their eyes are glowing.

The color of that glow, also called eyeshine, depends on what the tapetum lucidum is made of.

And different critters have different highly ordered molecules or fibers that create a

reflective surface.

Some fish eyes use guanine—one of the chemical building blocks in DNA—and have white eyeshine.

Sheep have collagen, which also provides structure to muscles and skin in lots of animals, which

leads to a blue or green glow.

And cats use riboflavin and zinc, among other molecules.

And the amount of zinc does a lot to determine how yellow or green or even blue their eyeshine is.

So your kitty's eyes aren't actually like little flashlights; they're just reflecting

some of the ambient light in your room.

But if they start glowing red and shooting laser beams,

you should probably run.

What in the world...

Where are we?

Oh my gosh, have we been shrunk?

And... look at us!

It's to protect the world order.

Who's gonna protect the order from them?

Heartless!

Who's that?

Are they new?

So you're... Andy's new toys?

Toys?

You sure did a number on those masked intruders.

Those are the Heartless.

The bad guys!

Have they been a problem around here?

No. They just showed up recently.

In fact, those "Heartless" materialized...

right after all of our friends vanished.

Have you got any clues we can go on, any other strange things that happened?

Well...

There's one thing.

One big thing.

Huge, sir.

What thing?

After Andy and the others went MIA, the intruders didn't come alone.

They arrived with a guy wearing a hood, dressed in black just like you are.

A black hood? But that would mean...

Organization XIII!

You know who it is?

We may have a hunch what's causing the weirdness around here.

Would you mind if we handle this?

Sorry. We're not gonna leave this to you.

Huh?

If that guy had something to do with our friends vanishing, he's our problem too.

We've gotta work together.

Right!

-So then, where can we find him? -Sarge!

Any word from the recon team?

The latest reports place him in town, sir. Galaxy Toys!

Then Galaxy Toys is where we're going.

Follow me.

It's out the window and down the roof.

One heart's shadows fill the emptiness of another.

See how they bring him to life?

Like Heartless and Nobodies, they fit together.

Yeah, great. Why are you doing this?

There is a darkness we are missing and must reclaim.

The way hearts connect in this world can provide a clue.

Why Star Wars Fans Almost Never Got To See The Film - Duration: 6:28.

Face it: Star Wars shouldn't have worked.

It was a science fiction fairy tale made when Hollywood was cranking out gritty, character-driven

dramas.

It starred a handful of unknown actors and a man in a fur suit.

It begins with 20 minutes of robots wandering through a desert.

The main villain of the original trilogy is a space wizard.

That sounds like a disaster, not the beginning of a multi-billion dollar franchise.

Yet, despite all odds, Star Wars didn't just clean up at the box office, it literally reinvented

the entire Hollywood machine.

And it came so close to never happening.

Here's why.

Flash of genius

Star Wars didn't spring fully-formed from George Lucas' head.

In fact, if Lucas had his way, he would've made an entirely different movie.

As a child, Lucas loved the old Flash Gordon serials

"I wonder what happened to Dale and Dr. Zarkov?"

"No doubt my father is holding them prisoners."

After Lucas' debut, the cold and lifeless science fiction thriller THX 1138, failed

to excite audiences and critics, Lucas wanted to make something with more heart, so he sought

the rights to make a new Flash Gordon film.

But Lucas ultimately couldn't seal the deal with King Features Syndicate, which published

Alex Raymond's original comic strip and owned the rights to the character — so, fortunately

for Star Wars fans, he decided to invent his own Flash Gordon-like saga.

"Prepare my rocket fleet at once.

We will go to the sky city of Vultan and teach him a needed lesson."

Studio resistance

While THX 1138 was a flop, Lucas' second feature, American Graffiti, was one of the most profitable

movies of all time, and a Best Picture nominee ...

"How'd you like to ride around with me for awhile?"

"I'm sorry, I can't.

I'm going steady."

Universal Pictures executives were delighted at the film's success, and wanted more.

Lucas, however, had his heart set on Star Wars and submitted a 12-page outline for the

flick.

The studio passed, and many of Lucas' friends and colleagues agreed, encouraging Lucas to

make a "deeper" film, more grounded and serious.

But Lucas wouldn't listen.

Sci-fi dry spell

Universal isn't the only studio that passed on Star Wars.

United Artists and Disney said no, too, arguing that science-fiction wasn't popular and wouldn't

sell.

After all, as Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz noted to IGN, it took seven years for 1968's

2001: A Space Odyssey to turn a profit, and the last big space opera, 1956's Forbidden

Planet, was almost 20 years old when Lucas was pitching Star Wars.

"Why you low-living contraption!

I ought to take a can opener to you!"

"Quiet, please.

I am analyzing."

When Lucas tried to explain to the studios that Star Wars is more fantasy than science

fiction, the debate was lost on 20th Century Fox president Alan Ladd, Jr., who just wanted

Lucas, period.

"He said, 'I don't understand this, but I loved American Graffiti, and whatever you

do is okay with me.'"

So in 1973, Lucas finally inked a deal to write and direct Star Wars for Fox.

Financial woes

Here's one of Star Wars' biggest secrets: it was not an expensive film.

While Star Wars established the template for the expensive Hollywood blockbuster, its initial

budget was relatively tiny.

Fox gave Lucas and his crew just $8 million, but unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough.

When he asked for more, Fox shut down pre-production and forced the team to come up with a new

budget, which came out to about $10 million.

Lucas was forced to scrap a number of scenes, including Han Solo's confrontation with Jabba

the Hutt, later controversially added via CGI to the Special Edition of the film.

Trouble in Tunisia

Tatooine, Luke Skywalker's home planet, was originally supposed to be a jungle, but Lucas

changed it to a desert planet after a location scout in the Philippines irritated his skin.

While Tatooine's twin suns setting over the dunes is one of the most iconic images in

a franchise full of iconic images, Tunisia isn't the most hospitable environment for

filmmaking, and the production fell behind immediately.

Allegedly, the sand didn't mix well with the cameras, damaging lots of expensive equipment.

Windstorms ravaged the sets, and R2-D2's controls didn't work particularly well, either, as

the sand interfered with the remote's radio signals.

And then there was the weather.

On the second day of shooting, a freak rainstorm — the first winter rain that the area had

gotten in 50 years — made filming practically impossible.

Delays almost spelled doom

Thanks to the problems in Tunisia, Star Wars was behind schedule by the time that the crew

moved to England.

Unfortunately, things didn't get much better.

Union rules severely limited when the cast and crew could work, and it didn't help that

Lucas was still tweaking the script while filming, or that Lucas had to fire the film's

original editor, meaning an hour's worth of footage had to be recut.

Filming began in March 1976.

By July, Lucas was 15 days behind schedule.

Fox issued an ultimatum: Lucas had to finish the film in a week, or the studio was going

to pull the plug.

The studio almost buried it

While an early screening for studio executives went well, Fox wasn't sure how to sell Star

Wars to the public — so, they didn't.

Instead, the studio put its marketing muscle behind The Other Side of Midnight, which was

based on a best-selling novel, and had a built-in audience.

Meanwhile, theater owners thought that Star Wars was a "kiddie movie" and didn't want

to screen it.

So in order to boost circulation, Fox forced theater chains that wanted The Other Side

of Midnight to book Star Wars as well.

As Star Wars broke record after record for both attendance and box office returns, Fox

expanded into as many markets as possible.

By September, Star Wars was in 1,100 theaters — an unheard of number at the time — and

its first theatrical run lasted for over a year.

By then, it was clear: despite the odds, Star Wars was a hit, and Hollywood would never

be the same.

Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises #50: Teaching Early Ball Handling Skills Sitting - Duration: 2:02.

Hello! My name is Amy Sturkey. I am a pediatric physical therapist.

I'm here with Colton who is a typically developing 13 month old. We're going

to work on rolling and catching a ball from sitting .Uh-huh. Ball! We want the ball.

So if you sit him with your legs out wide.

He does not want his leg slide but I'm going to try to keep him. All right! Send

it to us! Okay. There you go. So what you want to see is for him to put out his arms, not his feet

to catch that ball. Uh-huh... and then you send it on back. Alright

Let's see. You can see ...uh-huh..It's a little delayed. He doesn't reach for it

yet first. It was a good...What? ...with your mouth? ...Hold on! Give me that! Right! All right.Let's see? Try rolling a

little slower to see if he can see if it it's coming. Would you get the ball out of your mouth? Not the mouth!

Alright. A little bit slower so it gives him time. There you

saw that time he was a little bit better at timing it. Not in the mouth. Not in the mouth. Okay. Okay. Okay.

Alright. Last time. You going to get it? There! Just a little slow. His timing will

get better at it and it will go less in his mouth as he gets older. That's

some basic idea of working on the rolling and catching. Get his feet wide.

Roll the ball slower. Use a big ball so that he has time to process it coming in

and trying to grab it. Thanks a lot and I'll see you later!

EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight Kickstarter Campaign - Duration: 3:21.

My name is Danny Vartan. I'm the inventor of the EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight.

I've been working on my invention over the last seven years and

I'd like to share with you why I'm doing this Kickstarter campaign,

and why I'm asking for your support.

Over my 20 years experience as a firefighter

there have been times where I've been nearly struck by a passing vehicle

while operating at accident and fire scenes along roadways.

Here's my point: there isn't a month that goes by

that a first responder isn't either injured or killed by a passing

motorist while operating at an emergency scene on a roadway.

that is why I developed this unique professional safety tool

to help firefighters and police officers

while they are operating on a roadway at a vehicle accident or fire scene.

And just as important, it could be a real lifesaver for you in your car, your home, or on the job.

Here's a recent example why the EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight.

needs to be available to everyone.

Yesterday, while I was driving home, I saw a car stopped in the left lane

of a busy Interstate. I pulled to the right shoulder and immediately called 9-1-1.

I then instructed that the driver to move to the safest available spot,

which was behind and away from his vehicle.

He was really scared and rightly so. Cars and trucks were whizzing past him

at 70 miles an hour with no advance warning that his car was stalled just ahead.

Now if it was raining or in the evening,

You can imagine an even scarier scenario.

That's why I'm doing this: so first responders and the general public

have a safer way to deal with these kinds of situations.

I'm doing this Kickstarter campaign to get the necessary safety certifications,

create the necessary parts molds, and assure that everyone - first responders

and the general public alike, can be safer

with the EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight

in their vehicle and in their home.

So I'm asking for your support;

even five or ten dollars would be a big help.

If you want to help at an even higher level, there are even cooler rewards,

such as a $20 savings for your own EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight as an early adopter.

Help me make the EMERGI-SAFE™ 5-in-1 Emergency Flashlight available

to first responders, tow truck drivers, utility crews, professional truckers,

and most importantly, to YOU!

I truly believe it can be a real lifesaver.

Thank you so very much for your support.

Leatherman Supertool 300. In a mystery package from Billie The Kid. - Duration: 16:14.

Hello there, it's my day off again.

I just received a package in the mail.

This has come from somebody who wishes to remain anonymous.

when he heard that I was on You Tube he said that he had a tool that Vinnie would like

to review.

He was quite mysterious about it . So I don't know what it is.

This character now, he has quite a sense of humour he's a bit mischievous, so for the

purpose of the video we'll call him Billie The Kid, okay?

Right, I'm quite curious to know what this is so we'll zip it open all right?

My goodness, I certainly wasn't expecting this. It's a Leatherman.

Aaah, I think Super tool 300.

I've been looking at these for a long time and I never , I never bought one because

I thought they were too pricey.

I'm quite stunned with this so I am.

Now I don't know too much about this one.

It's a sheath, looks too small for this.

Nice leather sheath as well.

Ya, it fits.

That sheath now is quite well made.

Quite robust.

Let me just look at the instructions guy's and I'll get back to you.

I'm a bit bowled over with this , so I am.

Billy thank you very much.

Let's have another look at this.

Okay, so we've zoomed in a little closer for ye.

I've been playing around with this for a little bit and it's quite an impressive tool so it is.

You have a file, a reamer, kind of like the Swiss army tool, and you have various screwdrivers,

flat heads.

Quite a nice blade here, kind of a clip point.

And the tools are locking, here you have the, locks open, so here you have a press tab to

release it.

Okay, you've got a nice looking saw, can opener, and Philips and small flat head, and a serrated edge knife.

should be good for rope and what have you.

I do like that the, when they're closed you have this flat portion for your knife, for

both knives, for cutting with.

It's quite a hand filler, and it's quite comfortable, I like that.

This, you would imagine, would be sharp when you are using it, but all the edges are rounded over,

and you can press quite hard, it's not too bad at all.

You also have removable wire cutter blades here.

Very impressive. Let's head to the woods and try it out.

Here I have a hazel sapling, I'm going to try out

the saw on this.

As we know, hazel, when you cut it, it will just grow back again, no trouble.

Okay, so it can cut wood of this diameter, but I think this is a bit heavy for it.

There was some flex in the saw, and I think it's made for wood, perhaps a quarter of this

diameter, I think it's made for light work, that's my conclusion, okay?

Now, I've just cut this branch and it was much more comfortable doing this.

It is a saw that can do some work, but I don't think it's made for regular, or certainly

not heavy use any way, but a useful tool.

the knife blade came pleasantly sharp, and I think it's a fine hand filling grip,

and nice flat smooth surfaces.

It should be, it should be a fairly good knife to use.

Certainly nice and sharp,

I find this corner digging a bit as I use it. You could hold it farther back but you lose power.

This is the way I feel I want to cut with it. and that is a little sharp, but not bad,

you certainly, you certainly have a usable knife, and it's cutting chunks off that

like there's no tomorrow.

Nice knife.

And of course, we have to try out our can opener, see how that works.

I'm not too used to this, I'm very used to the Swiss Army Knife can opener, which I rate

very highly.

I find this one a little awkward to use, probably just because I'm not used to it.

But it'll open a can.

It doesn't, it leaves a relatively smooth edge, no jagged edge inside, which is nice

as well.

Beans for lunch.

Right guys, it's actually a couple of days later, and I'm back home, we're going to try

out some of the other functions on the multi tool.

So I've got my trusty, and battered, Black and Decker workmate here, and we're going

to try and drive a few screws.

try a small one first.

This is not pre drilled.

Okay it's driving that lovely, there's no feeling of looseness or flimsiness at all,

of course you've got your screw driver locked out.

Okay it handled that lovely, no problem, lets try this somewhat bigger one.

And generally for these I pre drill a small pilot hole, but i haven't done that this time.

Ya, you've got a good secure handle, everything is tight and secure.

That's a fine screwdriver, no problems driving that pretty big screw very easily, okay?

Let's try the serrated blade with this rope.

I'm quite impressed with both knives, on this little tool.

Okay, this is somewhere around half inch rope, polypropylene again.

It zips through that.

should make quite a good rescue knife or rope cutting knife, or knife for a sailor or something.

Lets just try the plain blade now on the rope.

Yep, both knives will zip through rope.

Nice sharp blades on these.

Right , so I've got some tying wire here.

It's used, this is used locally for electric fence wire, or for any tying you may be doing.

it zips through that very easily.

Now this is some steel cable, this is good quality tough cable, aah two millimeters thick.

Now the jaws are a little bit too offset for this, I think these are made for cutting,

you know, thicker brass wire, copper wire what have you.

The tool has another wire cutters here, and this one works better for this steel cable.

You maybe have to do it twice, or three times.

so it's maybe not the best for steel cable, but certainly for any other normal wire, it's

highly effective and quite sharp.

Now I want to try out the file on this battered old fishing lure.

So this hook is quite blunt, usually you test the hook by dragging it across your nail,

if it's sharp it should dig in.

This one is just sliding off.

It's quite a blunt hook.

Let's see how our, how our file works with this.

I can see fresh, clean steel appearing, so it's cutting steel.

almost there, another few strokes.

Right, so that's biting, so it's good for your fishermen.

Anyway boys, that's the Leatherman Supertool 300, and it's nice leather sheath.

I'm absolutely delighted with this.

This is a high quality tool.

This would be very useful to anybody, but especially if you had a quad bike or a boat

or a ski doo, anything like that.

Guns weapons, anything you need to fix.

You've got a complete set of tools in a very neat package, it's strong, everything is high quality.

I'm absolutely delighted with this.

When Billy The Kid told me he was sending me a sharp tool to review, I'd almost made

up my mind that it was going to be a wrecking chisel or something like that.

I certainly wasn't expecting this.

billy The Kid, thank you very much, I'm absolutely delighted with this, I owe you a pint or two

or three or four next time I see you.Hope you enjoyed it guys, thanks for watching,

bye bye.

Attack of the Titans today, an interesting one as well.

If you like this type of video leave your LIKE and comment that helps too.

So that's it, video is very interesting!

Come with me follow and see if you like!

Good Before you know which Titan is most powerful,

There are some criteria that I will adopt for the TOP.

For example, the Titans will not be controlled by their respective hosts.

But by trained soldiers!

And it does not count any skill of its hosts,

That is, it is only the strength of the titan who will be counting for the TOP.

Honorable Mention stands for the Titan Jawbone.

It is the second most agile titan of the anime.

It showed to be very strong fighting against several common Titans.

In addition to their sharp teeth and claws, they are very sturdy.

He does not have any specific skills yet, besides the body's hardening.

It just has a bit more strength and endurance than an ordinary Titan

So it's in that position on the list.

He proved stronger than the Attack Titan, But you can question me,

How could he not beat Eren in that fight, good as I said ..

We're looking at them as if they were trained soldiers under the control of the Titans.

And if you were a trained person in each of the Titans,

The Titan Battleship would have its victory guaranteed.

In addition to being stronger than the attacking Titan, he is more resilient.

Bestial Titan proved to be very efficient in pitching technique.

As shown in manga and somewhat in anime.

With this technique he easily defeats the Titan Battleship.

Female Titan In addition to being the fastest Titan in the anime, she has enormous strength.

And his hardening ability proved to be much stronger and stronger than other Titan techniques.

And even if the Beast threw rocks at her she could easily avoid,

With its hardening.

And when she came near the Beastly, he would have no chance at all.

His thin arms would be easily destroyed.

HERE'S MACHO BIRLL

Well there was no way to choose another, Practically he was a Mostro.

This was a JOKE!

This titan has nothing to talk about, he defeats any titan with a move.

And it also has the heat blast technique.

That keeps the enemies away.

In other words, in a fight against another titan he would probably win.

Well this was the video of today I hope you enjoyed.

J: What's your name? I: *name sign*

J: Oh yeah, but spell your name. I: I-L-O-N-A.

J: In Swedish too. I: (swedish) I-L-O-N-A.

J: Today we'll do a Best Friend Tag, where we'll look through a bunch of questions in the phone about us both

J: .. and by answering them, we get to know which one of us knows best about each other!

I: First question - how and when did we meet?

J: We met for the first time in Belgium on a EUDY (European Union of the Deaf Youth) camp for children..

I: Youth. J: Yeah, youth. A week and we connected immediately.

J: I think it's been 3 years now, right? I: Yes, three years.

J: 3 years ago! Wow!

J: What's my favorite color? I: Pink.

J: Yes.

J: Yours... Errmm..

J: I think it's black? I: No.

J: Green? I: No.

J: Blue? I: No!

J: Orange, then? I: What?! No!

J: Purple? I: No...

J: I don't know. I: Look at my sweater.

J: That's not your favorite color! I: Yes! My favorite color is red.

J: Really? I: Yeah.

J: Umm okay. I've never seen you in red. I: I do never wear red. But it's my favorite, so.

J: I know! I: What are the places I would like to visit?

J: LA, of course! I: Yeah!!!

J: She cries for LA! Yes! If she sees a picture of LA, she will start crying. What? I don't understand.

I: I don't cry! But tears joy!

J: And mine? I: Yours...

I: Tokyo? J: Yes. Right!

J: I do think Tokyo's sign is this. *sign for Tokyo* I: Yes, *sign for Tokyo*

J: And my favorite food is? I: Chinese food

J: Yup, that's why I want to go to Tokyo.

J: And yours... Umm.. I: You do know! Liar!

J: I'm not lying! But I don't remember now.

I: I've always told you that!

J: So, candy? I: No!

J: Pizza? I: No!..

J: Oh yeah!!!! Meatballs!! I: No....

J: But you said that? I: No. It's my favorite Swedish food yeah, but in general?

J: Taco? I: NO!

J: I don't know. I: PASTA!!!!!

J: That's not a meal. I: That's food. Pasta is what? Food.

J: Pasta is an ''addition'', not really real food.

I: But you do eat it. That's food.

J: If pasta is counted as ''food'', then I might know.

I: Pasta is food!

I: Who is my cruhs?

I: Who is my crusH*?

J: I have same crush. You took mine. KJ Apa. I: No, he was mine first.

J: Well okay, you was first, I stole yours. I: Yeah.

J: So, KJ Apa? I: Yes.

J: And who is mine? I: Cole Sprouse.

J: No. I: Yes. Cole.

J: Really, I have two.

I: I don't know his name, but.. Asn.. No, Ansel. (Elgort) J: Hm, no.

I: Is that a boy? J: KJ Apa!!

I: No!!! J: Yes.

J: How long time does it take me to get ready?

I: One hour!

I: One hour and half. Two hours? I don't know. J: With make-up?

I: Yes, you do always wear make-up. J: So, clothes and make-up? Or only clothes?

I: You never go out without make-up, so.

J: Lol, right. I: With clothes, make-up and everything..

J: With make-up and clothes.. Maybe one hour and half.

J: And you.. Oh. 10 minutes?

Ilona: Yes.

I: What do I take with me all the time? J: Phone, duh.

I: Yeah. J: What about me, then?

I: Your phone and make-up.

J: Who was my first kiss?

I: Hm, I don't know. J: Huh? You're my best friend!

J: I told you! I: You told me. (at the same time)

I: From kindergarten? J: Yes!

I: But I don't know the name.

J: But I do remember! I remember that we were on a playground, and we were on a building.. -

I: What building? J: It looked like this.. *gestures the building*

J: The one we plays on. We sat on the top, and he asked if we should kiss. I was worried if my mum would see.

J: I looked for her. I didn't found her, so we gave each other a kiss.

I: Mine? Who?

I: Right. J: How old were you?

I: 5-6 years old.

J: That's a cute boy.

I: What annoys me the most?

J: You're always happy, but..

J: Oh yeah, when the wifi shuts down so you won't be able to watch TV- series.

I: Yes, a little right!

J: And, when you doesn't have food.. Or, no. I: Bitchy people.

J: There's people saying that I do look like a bitch. So you hates me..

I: No. Now, you...

I: I don't know.. Do you have any? J: Obviously.

I: Bitchy people? J: Umm, no.

I: People that says their boyfriends are more important than their own friends.

J: RIGHT!!

J: This. Understand?

J: What is my dream job?

I: Hm, being an actress? J: Nah.

I: Teacher? J: Uhhh..

I: You said that before. J: Actually, I have many choices. I don't know right now.

I: Actress? Filmmaker? J: Yes, filmmaker and teacher. I don't know yet.

J: Maybe both. And you...

J: You never told me. You don't know, do you? I: I don't know. I want to be an actress, but that's hard so

J: But if you could, then would it be acting? I: Yeah.

J: Yes, acting. I: What is my favorite season

J: Summer, duh. Because she hates winter. They don't get along at all. Impossible!

I: So you would choose winter? J: Me? No.

I: I do think it's spring? J: Hmmmm.. Yes.

J: What is my favorite sport? I: You don't like sports.

J: But yes, I do actually like one. I: Working out?

J: It's not a sport really, but.. I: Yes it's a sport! But okay-

J: Okay then, working out, and..? I: You said ''fuck sports'' but nevermind..

J: Yes, fuck sports, but there's one I do like.

I: I don't know. You don't have any. J: Motocross.

I: Oh yeah.. J: I do always watch it.

I: But that's not a sport.. J: Yes, it's a sport.

I: Yes, but... J: It's kinda a motorsport.

I: And mine is? J: Fotball.

I: What is my ideal car?

J: An sportcar.. I forgot the brand name, but.. I: Ferrari?

I: No. There were a car in Stockholm, I showed it for you. J: Oh, Range Rover? I thought the same.

I: You too? J: Yes!

J: What do I like the most about you?

I: It's impossible to know.. That I'm funny?

J: Nah, you're boring.

J: No, no. Sorry. Yeah, you're funny. I: But it's not the favorite?

I: I don't know. J: What's your favorite word?

I: Stupid?

J: I hate that word! Fuck you!

How To Cope With Losing A Parent - Duration: 13:34.

Hey guys

It's your life coach Alyssa hammond here, and I wanted to talk to you guys about

how to cope when you lose a parent

So let me start by saying if you're watching this because you lost a parent I

feel for you, it is the hardest thing that has ever happened to me and

My dad's been gone for 17 years, and I've never had anything close to

The amount of emotion that I felt when I lost him. And even now when I think about it

I just know when I lost him I felt

so incredibly alone and I

was fortunate enough to have two siblings even.

It still wasn't enough because they were experiencing everything with me at the same time

so I would have given anything in that moment to

have

Someone who had been through it and gotten through on the other side and said it was gonna be okay

so let's just start by saying as

Much as it sucks. Even if it happened years ago it still sucks, and it's always gonna suck

Man, this is such a hard topic

But I'm doing this and I'm not planning it, the way that I do with a lot of video where I kind of have an idea

Of what I'm gonna talk about. I was like

I'm just gonna turn this on and talk about how I got through it

So to give you a little bit of the story my dad died when I was 10

It was 10 days before I was about to turn 11, my sister was 8, and I think my brother was 13

We did not see it coming. We were at a family reunion, and he died in his sleep from something called

Cardiomyopathy which is a heart issue that was never diagnosed. So as a kid who absolutely adored her dad it

Rocked my whole world when this happened, and no one knew because he wasn't diagnosed

So I

Went to bed one night. I didn't even say goodnight to him and

He was gone the next day. my sister found him sleeping in bed

yeah, it rocked my whole world and

He was the best dad. I mean

People who've never even met me, they'll meet me for the first time and they'll say

Your dad was a great man. He really loved his kids. And I don't know if that makes it better, or that much harder because

You know you kind of question like would all this be easier if he wasn't so great? You know when I

See these bad parents who don't care about their kids, and that was just not

the case with him.

So it took me a long time to work through those feelings, um especially the guilt

Because I was a kid, and kids don't think to say good night to their parents

so I just went to bed and

Didn't see him again, and it was something I had to work through in therapy and

Get past that guilt, because I know my dad knew I loved him and he knew how close we were.

So I would definitely recommend seeing a therapist. I tried this therapy called EMDR

Which is eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

Google it, it's really fascinating. I don't want to spend a ton of time talking about it

But this therapist realized that when people are having anxiety

attacks their eye movement tends to go up and down so she thought "if I can make them think about this traumatic experience and

and force their eyes to move in the opposite direction that they typically move

Can we kind of reassign meaning to this traumatic experience?" and in my case

Absolutely yes, I think everyone should do EMDR

It absolutely has changed my life, and that's one thing where as a life coach, I

Can only do so much to help sometimes you need to hire a therapist because therapists deal with emotions life coaches

Take people who are already in a pretty decent emotional space, but want to reach peak performance and they help them get there

so seeing a therapist is something I'd really recommend there are a lot of things that I would do differently now than I did as

a kid but I would say just let yourself just wallow in pity for as long as you need because it's better to

Spend three weeks crying and then every other day

Maybe you cry for like the next four months, but you start to get your life back in order

That's better than not processing it and putting up a wall around the people you love

Because I have seen some people who they're scared for that to happen to them again

So they don't want to get connected to anybody else

And that is no way to live. If they're not gonna be here, you should try to live the best life you can

So that you can do them honor. I always try to live my life so that it's honoring my dad

I would never say that it's been a great thing in my life losing my dad. It's been the worst thing, but there are

some benefits of perspective when you go through traumatic things like that when you're little so

Because he's gone, and I want to do things in his honor

It's encouraged me to always stay true to myself to always ask myself if my dad's watching me right now

Would he be proud? My dad was very active in his community

am I doing that? Am I being selfless or am I being selfish, so

Trying to honor him has been a way for me to find a lot of peace in

This whole experience

another thing I would say that is helpful is if you have a dog, dogs are very intuitive and

If you don't have a dog, get one. They have hypoallergenic ones. The amount of joy that

Really any pet brings into your life is

So worth the money that you have to put into feeding them and taking them to the vet once a year. But dogs

Especially are very intuitive to what our needs are and my dog Nolie, she just,

She knows when when I'm sad about something she'll come nuzzle me and it is like the most amazing

experience to feel that compassion from an animal.

And I've definitely heard that about horses and cats. My husband's a physical therapist

And he actually said one of his patients had a therapy hamster

so like like a therapy dog

But they literally would like take the little hamster and like rub its little belly while they were in sessions with him

I think that's great. Whatever you need, but I'm saying feeling a connection with something

other than human is nice because sometimes

Humans just don't know what to say. That was probably one of the hardest things for me to experience, is I was

Basically about to be 11 when it happened none of my friends had been through that

No one knew what to say to me

I mean most of my friends parents haven't even been through that. When you have the ability to

Connect with something without having to use words it can be really powerful. And as much

Pain as there is in losing a parent, there's also a whole community of people who've also lost parents

So my sister I remember the year or two after my dad died- she did a camp for kids who had lost her parents and

they all went and spent a week with each other and they did all these crafts, and they made a quilt and

She has these things that she can look to when she's struggling

so I know um

Certainly I had a kid that was going through that that I wouldn't want to send them to a camp because I want them to

Not feel alone. And with siblings

You know if they're going through it too they may not be the best source of support each of my siblings

Handled it totally differently my dad died my brother

Picked up a book and I feel like I didn't see him for days. He read

I think he read like the whole harry potter series because he just he didn't wanna talk to anybody and

He had every right to do that. None of us knew what to say to each other because there was nothing

I'm gonna emotional, there was nothing we could say to make it better and

That's the most painful thing - having these fleeting moments where you forget and you think I'm going to draw dad a picture

or I'm gonna yell dad's name because the giants game is on and I know he would want to watch that. And

You go to do it, and they're not there

And it is just it's like this open wound. And it's gotten easier

it has I mean in some ways it'll never be easier and in other ways you know time has healed a

Lot of wounds, and it's taught me a lot about

Just knowing that I'm not gonna have the answers to everything

And having to be okay with that

One of the ways I wanted to cope was I wanted to blame someone and I know this sounds so twisted

But I almost wished that my dad if he had to be dead

That he was killed. And I know that sounds bizarre

But I needed someone to be mad at and I had no one to be mad at. I just had to be like

"He's not here anymore

Nothing. I say is gonna change that and I'm gonna have to spend the rest of my life

hanging out with people who don't appreciate their parents who complained because their parents are checking up on them" and feeling this huge disconnect from

people and

just

Feeling like "God, if he took some kind of

over-the-Counter

Medication and it killed him then at least I would have someone to channel all this anger toward"

but there was no one so it just stayed inside. And

through

talking with the therapist, to

talking to anyone that would listen, to

Spending time with you know my childhood dog at the time who was really comforting when I was struggling, to getting involved with community

service and keeping myself busy those things really helped and

Keep telling yourself it's gonna get better. God. It sucks. It sucks so bad. I mean when I was getting married I

Knew my husband was the person I was meant to marry and I kept having this feeling of like why

Do I not want to plan the wedding? This is bizarre. I had a pinterest board

For my wedding. I was I always thought I want to and then when it came time to actually do it I

felt suffocated whenever I would do it. And I just had an epiphany one day that it just didn't feel right doing it without my

Dad you know not having him walking down the aisle and not having him do the first dance. I was never gonna have that and

There's just no way to make that suck less. I really encourage writing out your feelings

Journaling will be really helpful

And I also do this journaling technique where every day. I'll write the date at

The top so we'll say like you know today's july 11th, so alright

July 11th, and then underneath it'll say 2017 and I'll write out one good thing from the day, so

Even if it's like a shit day where I'm really really sad if I find something that was good

You know like I how to get interaction with someone, I found a new show

I like, I was reading a book I really like, or found a great youtube video that helped me

with something out of struggling with.

Having that kind of forces you to get out of that state of pain

but I want to be clear that it's okay to spend as much time in that pain as you need to and

Anyone who tells you that you can't either

Doesn't know because they haven't been there or they are

Being inconsiderate. I really don't see any other way around it. Because anyone who tells you,

especially if they haven't experienced it, that

You need to like 'buck up' that would be the probably the kind of person

I would distance myself from. And I just want you to know there's a whole community of us

Who've lost a parent and I'm here

I'll leave my email below and you can send me an email if you ever want to talk. I'm here and

Check out EMDR

cuz it's life-changing

It like reprocesses your brain

And I think everyone should do it even if they haven't lost a parent. If this message resonated with you, let me know

in the comment section because I'd really like to know if

Just hearing someone else talk about it

Helps even in the slightest bit

and

if you have any other tips for any of the other viewers then I think it'd be great to see you list them because

There's no shortage of ways

To make people feel better, and I'm sure I miss them so um stay strong you guys, and I am so sorry again

I mean, it's just it's just it's

Awful that this has to happen

Especially when people are taken prematurely because you feel like you got the rug ripped out from under you.

And it's very hard to not look at every relationship like that and not worry

that this is gonna happen again? But if you like this kind of content

Let me know, click like, subscribe.

I can do more stuff on death and coping and I'm happy to help if you have other topics you want me to talk about

Leave them in the comment section below, and I'll make sure to get to them. Thanks guys
