Hey there!

Welcome to Life Noggin.

You humans are strange and complex creatures.

You've got all these organs and tissues working together in just the right way for

you to function.

Not all life is like this.

In fact, the first lifeforms on Earth consisted of just single cells, all on their lonesome.

We're still learning how these simple species became complex beings… and eventually, you.

It's clear it didn't happen all at once.

The main theory is that multicellular organisms started out as cells grouped together in colonies.

Some scientists count these as the first complex life forms.

But many think that for it to truly be multicellular life, the cells have to be connected, communicating,

and cooperating with each other.

Depending on how you view it, there were between 13 and 25 branches of complex organisms that

evolved into different types of animals, plants, fungi, algae, and bacteria.

Each lineage evolved in its own way, but most ended up with similar types of cell structures.

So if we know the different branches, why can't we just trace them back to see how

they started?

Well, it's not quite that easy to find fossils.

And the ones we do find aren't always very clear.

But recently, scientists discovered what is probably the oldest evidence of multicellular

life that isn't just cell colonies.

Buried 2,600 feet under South Africa, they found a possible fossilized fungus that is

2.4 billion years old.

And complex life might have existed even before that!

The chances of any organism being fossilized are pretty low, which means some pieces of

the story are likely missing.

Besides fossils, scientists look for evidence of the conditions needed to support life.

This is similar to how they look for life in space — they might not find aliens, but

they can locate water, which is necessary for all life that we know of.

If liquid water exists on a planet, it's possible life survived there as well.

On Earth, they study rocks to look for evidence of oxygen in the atmosphere billions of years

ago.

Even with this evidence, it's hard to know when complex life really started.

And to make it even more difficult, scientists think some species went from single cells

to multicellular colonies and back, based on the conditions.

So what made the transition stick?

As life evolved, there may have been advantages for certain cells that stayed together.

These so-called "ratcheting mechanisms" likely prevented the cells from reverting

to their old, solitary ways.

For example, as cells evolved to do different tasks, they could have relied on each other

for support.

One cell might have made a necessary compound while another created an important molecule.

This meant they were stronger together than apart.

We obviously need a lot more research to understand how and when life became multicellular, but

one thing is clear: humans are just one species in a long line of intricate and complex beings.

And in my opinion, you're also the coolest.

5 Ways to Relieve Peripheral Neuropathy Foot Pain & Other Foot Ailments - Ask Doctor Jo - Duration: 5:58.

Hey everybody it's Doctor Jo, and today I'm going to show you the top five ways

to relieve pain for peripheral neuropathy and other foot ailments. So

let's get started.

One, calf stretches. For the calf stretch, you can use a strap, a stretching strap,

you can use a belt, if you have dog you can use a dog leash, or just a big towel,

but I like the ones that have the loops in them because you want to just place

it it kind of around the ball of your foot. With a calf stretch, you want your

leg to be straight so bent like this isn't going to quite stretch the calf, so

if you want to do it sitting down you can. I have a whole bunch of different

ways to stretch it, and you can check that video out, but just sitting in a

chair bring your leg up so it's straight, and pull with the strap. So you want your

foot to be relaxed, and then just pull until you feel a stretch through that

calf area. You're going to hold that stretch for about 30 seconds and then

relax it. Take just a little quick 10-second break, and then stretch again.

So you're going to do that a total of three times for 30 seconds. Number two.

Far infrared heat. Ohh! The folks at thermotex partnered up with us, and

they sent us their platinum thermotex, and this far infrared heat is super cool

because what it does is it goes deeper. It penetrates deeper into the body. So

usually with a normal heating pad, it only goes may be 0.25 centimeters this

one goes all the way up to 6 centimeters or 2.36

inches. So it goes down deeper in there, it doesn't dry out the skin, it doesn't

dehydrate you, and it uses light instead of heat so this is really really cool.

And I like the Platinum a lot because this one is very versatile, you can use

it kind of for any part of your body. It has the three heat plates here, so it

really molds around everything. And I like it for the foot, and especially for

peripheral neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, but you can also use it for

plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, fallen arches, just arthritis

in general, or even sprains and strains down here. So you put your foot on the

middle footplate there, and then you can just bring this up almost like a "C"

around the foot. It doesn't necessarily have to be super tight because it

penetrates so deeply that you can just put it loosely around your foot, and so

the Platinum you can see here has a lot of ways you can use it. If you're

well. Also if you want to be more specific with the foot, they have a

little foot covering here which is really nice, and I like this because not

only is it cute, but you can stick your feet in like this and it kind of encases

the feet, so you can do them both at the same time. And again you can just have it

and be working on something or watching TV, and it is cool because if you have

peripheral neuropathy, or some kind of other nerve issue where you don't really

have sensation in your feet, there's a pad in here that you can add in so it

doesn't get that heat quite directly on there since you can't feel it. So you can

use it all the time in there if you want to, but if you want a little bit more

heat that you can feel, you can take this out while you're using it. And I have

some circulation issues in my feet where my feet are cold all the time, and so I

like this just to have on my feet to keep that circulation going especially

when it's cold outside it makes it really nice, and if you're interested in

below in the description. Number three. Ankle pumps. For ankle pumps,

you just want to put your foot out. If you want to prop it up on something you

can, but make sure that your heel is free moving so it's not actually on the thing

that's propped up, or you can just stick your foot out like me, and then you're

just going to pull up and push down, so just pumping that ankle helps increase

that circulation to the area and works those muscles, so just start off with

about 10 of these and you can work your way up to 20

to 25 really pushing down as far as you can and pulling up. Number four. Heel toe

raises. For seated heel toe raises, just place your feet flat on the ground, and

then come up on your toes, come down and, then pull your toes up. So pushing up

this way, and then pulling up this way. Again just starting off with about ten

to fifteen of these, and then working your way up to twenty to twenty-five. If

they become easy, then you can do them standing up. Number five. Balance

exercises. For balancing, make sure when you start off you have something sturdy

like a countertop or a sturdy chair. Hold on and then just stand on one foot. Start

off like I said making sure that you're holding on the whole time. Just go ten to

fifteen seconds. Once you can work your way up to thirty Seconds to a minute and

that's easy, then just try holding on with a finger on each side, and then if

that becomes easy, then just one finger, and then eventually just trying to

balance on one foot. Make sure you're switching sides back and forth so you're

getting both sides. So there you have it, those were the top five ways to relieve

peripheral neuropathy or other foot ailments. If you're interested in

Finding Summer Bass: Where Have The Bass Gone? | Bass Fishing | Hank Parker - Duration: 3:05.

Glenn: Hey folks, Glenn May with BassResource.com, and I'm here with another edition with Hank

Parker's Fishing Tips.

Hank, this week's question, it comes from Mike Burdett from Covington, Washington.

And he says,"Last summer, my son and I fished a small lake with deep diving crankbaits and

10-inch worms in 20 to 30 feet of water, and I never got a strike.

But my buddy, who's on the same lake, he caught several in three feet of water.

I thought bass were supposed to be deep during the summer.

What's going on?"

Hank: You know, that's the biggest misnomer in fishing.

The vast majority, especially people in the southern part of America where it's 100 degrees

in July and August, feel like those fish are gonna be as deep as they can possibly go trying

to find that darker, cooler water.

And the truth of the matter is, the vast majority of water 10 feet down and deeper have no oxygen

left.

All that hot weather has sucked the life out of the water and the good oxygenated water

rises to the surface.

The dead water that has no oxygen in it, falls to the bottom.

And so all that, if you look on your...I use Humminbird Electronics, if you look on your

electronics, you'll see a distinct line, and we call it the thermocline, and everything

below that line has no oxygenation in it.

And so all the fish are above the thermocline.

Occasionally they may go down there and get a yellow perch or something that's holding

out to the last minute and get a little food, but most marine life cannot live below that

thermocline because there's no oxygen.

And that's all these private lakes, small ponds are subject to the exact same condition.

The heavier water has no oxygen in it, no air.

It sinks.

The water that is fertile, that has oxygen and air, it rises to the top.

So the top layer of water are where the fish live.

So the fish are gonna be in three and four and five and six feet of water even though

it's very intense, hot, bright sun, they're gonna be relating in some shady structure

if it's there, but they're gonna be shallow because there's not enough fertile water below,

10, 12 feet deep to support marine life, thermocline.

So that's why you didn't catch 'em 30 feet deep and your buddy's caught 'em 3 and 4 feet.

oil-free stovetop granola recipe. hey guys I am nisahomey and welcome back

to my channel. today I am sharing two easy and healthy granola recipes for

weight loss it's gluten free, vegan, oil free, and made with natural sugar. this

granola is a super healthy snack not just for you but for the whole family.

this is a more healthier option than store-bought granola as it is made with

whole grains and naturally sweetened. homemade granola tastes so much better

than store-bought granola and it's much cheaper and healthier than store-bought

granola and making them on the stovetop makes it more easier to make than in an

oven, as it just takes roughly under 10 minutes to make it on the stovetop. this

granola recipe is made without dates and having a batch of this granola will

definitely make your life easier especially on those busy mornings or you

can have it as a quick snack on the go. so let's get started with the recipe. I'm

using a heavy bottomed the cast iron pan to make this granola you can also use an

iron kadai or a heavy bottomed steel pan once the pan is heated put the flame on

the lowest and then add in 1/2 cup rolled oats, rolled oats has more fiber

and is less processed. do not use instant oats for this recipe. add in 1 cup puffed

rice

and in one cup poha or beaten rice which is also known as a aval in Malayalam. I'm

using the thick variety of poha made from red rice. on medium to low flame

toast them on the tawa and make sure that you stir it on and off so that it

does not get sticked to the bottom of the pan. to know whether the oats and

the poha has the toasted well, just take few pieces in your hands and crumble it

if it is crispy and crunchy then it is toasted and once it starts to turn light

golden brown in color, add in 1/2 cup roughly chopped cashew nuts and mix well

and continue to toast on low to medium flame. also remember to keep stirring on

and off remember that I am using a cast iron pan

and it retains more heat than an ordinary pan. now add in 3 tablespoons

jaggery if you are making this for kids you can adjust sweetness to your

taste. Here I am using unrefined cane jaggery which usually comes in this

consistency, so I'm just scooping about 3 tbsp of jaggery. if you are using

ordinary jaggery you can use 1/4 to 1/3 cup of grated jaggery or even up to 1/2

cup if you are making it for kids. the jaggery will start to melt with the

heat and mix the ingredients very well so that the jaggery is coated nicely

with the ingredients. after about 2 minutes add in 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds.

pumpkin seeds are rich in iron, zinc, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. they

help to balance blood sugar levels, boost your immunity, helps to fight

inflammation, promotes better sleep, and helps you reduce post menopausal

symptoms. add in 1/4 cup flax seeds, flax seeds are full of healthy fats and fiber.

helps to lower cholesterol, they are high in omega-3 fatty acids, high in magnesium,

antioxidants and flax seeds also helps in weight loss. add in 2 tbsp chia

seeds, the essential fatty acids in chia seeds boost metabolism, cleanses your

colon. they are an excellent source of antioxidants. the high omega-3 and

omega-6 content in chia seeds helps in heart health. add in 1 tbsp cinnamon

powder, cinnamon helps to prevent blood sugar spikes, and

they are a rich source of antioxidants and now mix everything well for about a

minute or two and then switch off the flame and add in 1/3 cup black raisins

and again give it a mix and then transfer it to another Bowl. now divide

the granola into two parts the cinnamon flavored one is my kids favorite and I

like my granola to have some chocolate flavor

so I'm adding in about 2 tbsp raw cocao nibs and the 1 tablespoon raw cacao

powder. mix this really well so that the cocoa powder is nicely coated with the

ingredients. add in 1/4 cup dried strawberries. the chocolate and

strawberries makes a great combination and they will also add some sweetness to

the granola, though they may not be as sweet as the cinnamon granola, you can

adjust sweetness to suit your taste. I like the light bitter raw taste of cocoa.

once the granola has cooled down transfer it to a glass container and

cover it with a tight lid and my oil free and healthy homemade granola is ready

this granola can be kept in room temperature for up to a month or even

longer if kept in an airtight glass container. you can store some granola in

your office or even have a small batch in your handbag so that you can snack

healthy between meals. do try my version of oil free stovetop granola and stay

away from store-bought ones which may be loaded with preservatives, refined sugar,

We have just been checking a few things out

I've been showing him around and like as we're going he keeps saying like

So today we're going to talk about some of these strange things or things he didn't quite anticipate

Or may not have really been ready for here in Japan.

Before we get into that I wanted to let you guys know,

Japanese culture shock and just generally some crazy stuff that we weren't ready for.

The first thing I noticed was the

Fonts, I had the most trouble

Just recognizing different fonts.

I asked him to go to the combini and pick me up a riceball. What happened?!

I was looking for one specific flavor, the pictures were of no help and

There's a different font and I couldn't read it!

I had to ask for the specific flavor that I liked because I could not find it myself.

Just because the font was a little bit different once I got back

and Loretta was like

It says "Tuna-Mayo" right there. And then of course you say you're like

"Oh, of course." I got it though!

We also went to our first hockey game.

In Japan, in NIkko.

Even the taxi driver was like

He was like, "Wait is something going on today?"

L "Yeah, we're going to the hockey game!"

Taxi Driver: "We have HOCKEY?!"

We saw one of their only two goals that happened

The Ice Bucks scored two goals that game.

But like as soon as they won the goal the entire crowd suddenly had all of this like ...gear!

Yeah

Like, color guard and the drums of war!

We're just like, "Where did this even come from?!"

Like at a hockey game int he states

you sing or chant along with like the organ music. Yeah

But you know like this is like organized. Yeah

It was pretty cool though. Some good spirit!

Another thing that we didn't quite expect was the voltage here in Japan.

If you are from the U.S.

I think Canada might be similar as well

but in the U.S.

The voltage is pretty close to the range of like voltage here in Japan

which means that you don't have to actually get an adapter

for your electronics.

Computer's fine, cellphone charger's fine,

But for some reason your hair clipper

just like B: they didn't like it!

This is NOT normal. NOT normal. L: 3-2-1...

Can't it's like my teeth just like...screech.

So in general it is safe to bring your electronics from the states

Just be slightly aware some things that are like high-powered

There's so many like stray cats in Japan,

and they're like "lLook! Scratching post on every corner--*ELECTRICUTES*"

Yeah, yeah, that's what my landlady says

as far as she knows, the water bottles

are there to keep the cats from getting electrocuted

It's called a "Neko-Yoke"

Like the word bug-spray (mushi-yoke), it's a cat repellant!

The next thing that boomer was not ready for

This one's kind of my favorite...

So I was giving Boomer a tour of my campus.

I said we should go and eat it one of the food stalls

they have a roast-beef rice bowl food truck that you can order from

So you had a roast-beef rice bowl topped with Yuzu-kosho.

So, yuzu-kosho is no joke!

You probably thought it was more like yuzu the fruit

That's exactly what I thought, maybe a little sweet.

But instead it's really strong, spicy, pasty

It's very salty very salty very very salty

So they just schmeared that all over your roast beef

and let's just say it didn't agree with you!

It did not agree with me, no.

So we went RUNNING to the student center,

to the bathroom - *GIGGLES*

He came running out of the bathroom afterwards like

"your bathrooms in Japan are SO WEIRD!"

Yeah, it's like a TROUGH in the ground!

"There's a TROUGH in the ground?!"

B: It was not good! L: Let's just put it this way...

If you're never seen a traditional "Washiki" Japanese toilet before

you don't even know what you're looking at.

Figuring out how to take your twosies

Yeah, it definitely takes some thought!!

But you were backwards!!!

I was backwards... it's true!

and it was hard to.....

It was very hard to......balance?

Hold myself up?

I'm not used to being in such a position

while performing such maneuvers!

Everything turned out okay in the end, but it was an interesting experience

You're like grappling onto the door while balancing.

You looked really flustered, coming out of the bathroom like "WHAT WAS THAT?!"

So my dad says he really wants to try out Japanese toilets

Don't worry, dad. This is not those toilets!

There's bidet, nice, high-tech toilets

this is very low-low-low low tech.

I don't think you're even supposed to use that one for the two-sies!

Well it was the only one available, so

What always got me is that Japanese people

the majority of them will wait.

When the movie is over and the credits start rolling

they will just wait through the entire credits!

Until it's like "Technicolor, Fujifilm, Kodak Productions..."

and the copyright date is written out in roman.

They will wait until the very VERY end!

You're the opposite. At the movies, we like RUN.

Movie's done and you're like GOTTA GO!!

WE'RE DONE!!

It's in English, and I'm just looking around

and everyone's actually looking at the screen!

Like, are you guys actually reading the names?!

You can't be???

People Japan, what are you trying to do??

What do you get out of watching the English credits all the way to the end?!

Maybe it's like a respect thing? I don't know...

When I go to the movies, we never wait through the credits

We wait to make sure there's no teaser clip, and if it looks fine, then we just kind of leave.

Another thing is things we didn't expect to see!

For example, you mentioned a lot of cars.

Yeah, I saw a lot of different foreign cars

French cars, or like even last night I saw an Alpha Romeo

It's not never common in the U.S.

it used to be more popular back in the 60s and 70s

There were Alpha Romeo's but they were like sports cars.

I saw, kind of like a sedan Alpha Romeo

and Peugeot, which is a French car.

I've already seen like a dozen of those

So I guess like if you're into cars

It'll be fun to see like the different types of cars that people drive here.

We noticed a lot of things that already died out in America

But are still kind of existing in Japan

And I'm not just talking about fax machines

Like I know we all wonder why Japan still uses fax machines...

(just email it!)

But there were some other things we noticed

like "Is that really still a thing?!"

In our neighborhood, there was a restaurant and bar

that had a sign for Zima!

Which most of you probably have no idea what it is

I remember it from my childhood as like

similar to a smirnoff ice or like a wine cooler

You look in the like early 1990s. Oh

like in the 1990s or early 2000s.

It just took a minute like... WOW.

Really??? It's still there?!

It's probably BEEN there since the 90s!

Something that's difficult here if you're just getting settled

is that you probably don't have a credit card here.

It's one thing if you have a credit card AND income in dollars

but if you come and move all of your banking here

then when you order things online

For example, if you want to buy a plane ticket home

but realize you don't have a credit card...

Or like, I'm buying a bunch of furniture!

I went to Nitori and they said to just

order it online because the shipping's cheaper.

And at first I was weirded out by "Convenience Store Pay"

that just seem kind of strange

the only other option was Chakubarai - or C.O.D.

(Not Call of Duty, guys!)

Cash on Delivery!

Which is like a thing from way back in the day

I haven't heard about Cash on Delivery

since the same time as Zima.

Those are both things from like 20 years ago

That would NOT work in the states

It just wouldn't work.

There's a reason they don't do it anymore!

So yeah... that's like crazy!

They Japanese guy came over with his Fanny Pack

then you have to give them exact change.

It was just shocking to do C.O.D.

Those are just a few of the things that we've been noticing in the past week or two.

What's The Correlation Between Time Spent And Ad Spend on Mobile? Social Media Minute - Duration: 2:02.

Hi, I'm Jan Rezab this is Social Media Minute.

I want to focus on time spent, which is a topic I am very passionate about

and something we don't pay enough attention to when allocating our budgets.

When we look at Mary Meeker's report,

by the way you should absolutely look into it even though it has 300+ slides.

She points out that the time spent

in last 5 years in the US on digital media per day

went from 3.7 hours to 5.6 hours in total.

Five years ago,

0.8 hours per day of that were not mobile.

Now it's 3.1 hours.

There's more time spent on mobile devices

than there is, for example, on your actual Internet device.

Which is pretty shocking, right?

One thing Mary Meeker also pointed out in her report is the gap

between time spent percentage and the allocation of budgets.

If there's a disproportional amount of money allocated to print

when time spent is not in print anymore,

there's a negatively disproportional amount of time,

money invested in mobile media,

then there is time.

We need to fill that gap and this is just the US data she shows.

In other markets, it'll be even worse.

Meaning more time spent with mobile devices

and much, much less money spent on mobile advertising.

This means you should put your money where your users' time spent is.

Monitor your users' time spent.

Read everything you can about time-based research in your market

or conduct that research in your market.

Because this is the data we need to make business decisions.

What is a Special Assessment? | Purchasing a Condo When There's a Special Assessment - Duration: 6:05.

Special assessment.

2 words that strike fear into the hearts of condo owners everywhere.

Today we're talking about special assessments.

More specifically, we're going to be talking about assessments that are taking place during

the time that you're looking to buy or sell a condo.

How's it going everyone?

Matt Leighton and welcome back to another real estate video.

If this is your first time here, be sure to subscribe so that you always stay up to date

on the latest video.

First of all, what is a special assessment?

A special assessment is an amount of money that the condominium association needs in

order to pay for a project or outstanding debt that is not part of the annual budget.

The association charges every unit owner a fee and that amount is based on each unit

owner's interest in the condo community.

So owners that have a one-bedroom condo will be paying a smaller fraction while owners

of a 3 bedroom unit will be paying a much higher portion.

The assessment could be due immediately or it could be broken up into installments depending

on how the condo association has decided to handle the issue.

Now as a condo owner or purchaser, you may think that the budget is in place to avoid

this exact situation.

So why then do special assessments occur?

Special assessments occur when there is an unexpected repair or major emergency repair

such as a leaking roof or if the building's pipes need to be replaced.

Assessments are usually a last resort.

It's never the first option.

Sometimes you'll get a situation where you have the option to raise the condo fee OR

charge a special assessment.

Raising the monthly fee is a tough call because once you raise it, it's probably not ever

going to be lowered again.

And that could make selling more difficult in the future.

Generally speaking, it's usually better to have a 1-time assessment, rather than to

hike up the monthly rates that will stay with current and all future owners.

Speaking of future owners, let's talk about what happens when someone is looking to buy

a condo and there is an outstanding special assessment.

Outstanding and special pretty much both mean the opposite of their meaning in that last

sentence.

So if you're purchasing a condo, you're most likely going to know about the special

assessment beforehand.

Ask your buyer agent if there's any current assessments and check the condo docs.

Usually you're going to know ahead of time so that you don't flip out and back out

of the contract when you find out once you receive the condo docs.

So what's my opinion on purchasing when there's a special assessment?

Pretty straight forward.

I think it's OK.

And I think you should have the seller pay for the assessment at closing or provide proof

that they've paid for it before closing.

You don't want that large fee passed on to you as a welcome gift.

And think about if you were looking at 3 condos and decide to write an offer on the one that

has the assessment.

Those other 2 condos that you saw are probably not charging a $5,000 assessment or $10,000

assessment to you, so why should you have to pay for the assessment on this specific

condo that you're trying to purchase?

Depending on the competitiveness of your market, you as the purchaser has the leverage.

Now as a seller, what could you do?

Now what you don't want to do is look at the cost of the assessment and price your

condo higher than the current market value at the same value.

Nobody would even write an offer on your place.

I know this option sounds, dumb, but I bring it up because people have done it.

There are 2 options I think are your best bet.

I'm not going to go through all the options.

You don't have that many.

The first option is that you could offer a seller subsidy.

The benefit of this is that you're not cutting a check out of your own pocket.

Yes, of course you are the one paying for it.

However, when you offer a seller subsidy at closing, that means that that amount will

be taken out of your seller proceeds.

So say the assessment is at $5,000.

You take $5,000 out of your seller proceeds at closing, give that to the buyer and you

walk away from closing with your proceeds less the subsidy.

The alternative would be to simply pay it.

It's easy for me to stand here and say pay your special assessment.

I get it, it's not that easy.

If you get hit with a special assessment, it will not be a pleasant time.

But the sooner that you pay it, and the sooner it's off your books, the better it is for

you because it will make your condo easier to sell.

My goal here is to set some expectations.

As a seller, if you are looking to sell your condo quickly and at the fair market price,

you should have a plan to pay for the special assessment.

hey guys at sing out with Danielle Minnesota vlogs I wanted to give you a

garden update I actually still missed earlier and just realized it's been a

little also the lighting isn't as good but hopefully it'll still work check out

our first video if you're interested and all go through everything I would say in

general we're a little disappointed my results so far but some things are doing

really well one of them being this pumpkin just growing out in our yard I'm

not sure who gave them enough room but he's doing really well mixed are the

strawberries we planted these really late so I honestly wasn't sure if we get

any this season comes already mid-july but I see tweedle wrong these little

guys starting turning red so people get to see strawberry sixth year which is

nice here are the out-of-control herbs we

really need a pair this bad for next year most of its oregano and we don't

even need to make it in a lot so that seems silly but there's some mint and

tribe and stuff like that my parsley is doing great I use a ton of parsley I

could eat parsley instead of spinach or lettuce I love it that much so that's

good our cilantro didn't do well at all it went to feed almost immediately I

don't know what we did wrong but we didn't get anything from it and then we

have two little rosemary plants and I am so was hoping these would do better they

they haven't grown all that much to be honest

onions they're nice and green I think we're watering enough but they're you

know splat on the ground some of the time so I hope they still will cause you

to produce them you can't let kind of see the onions

Goldeen up so something's happening

peppers in general are disappointing I think animals keep getting on so that

green pepper has nothing you can kind of see where animals have been chopping

them off this one's doing really well so

there's hope for that and then there's the yellow pepper

let me show me but pretty disappointing all in all on the pepper side which is

Fatima bell peppers cucumber seem to be doing really well no fruit yet but

they're flowering and then tomatoes I would say is a mixed bag for just

starting that one looks good there's nothing on that guy

maybe a couple over here my son and I we did today we kind of got leaves you've

grown this in so but it looks much better than it did this morning

um we lost all of our corn and use two tomato plants we think a deer or

something got it that is sad and then on to the fruit our

raspberries which we didn't expect any this year they're producing there aren't

a lot because we keep them as they come but that one looks ready and they're

really good there's another list shown here

and then this one we have our first one this morning even golden raspberry so it

gets a little more like orangish color that one's not ripe yet we had our first

one this morning that was written after the exam was very good and then this is

the blackberry bush I don't anticipate getting fruit severe but you can see

stuff happening so yeah we happy with that and that'll be really fun to have

this is our apple tree it isn't doing great I am wondering if it's slowly

dying which is bad because we love it but we since you have some apples that

are starting to come in so they're super delicious I feel different in you to

come in we actually just picked our first one today and it's so fun for you

though because known apples in the morning so that is everything give this

Grate 400g of yellow cheese.

Add 2 eggs to the bow with cheese and stir.

We spread some cream cheese with basil and pine nuts in it on the bread slices.

Now cover the bread slices with our mixture.

Bake at 180 degrees Celsius about 15 minutes.

While the sandwiches are being baked we will make Airan. In a bow add 1:1 Yogurt(preferably Bulgarian or Greek) and water and stir.

Add salt and pepper according to your personal preference.

After the sandwiches are ready we slice thin half circles of fresh tomatoes and put them on top.

For a desert we will be making a banana shake. Add 2 bananas in a tall jug.

Fill the rest of the jug with milk.

Use a blender to mix the bananas and milk.

Prepare our lunch. Decorate as you see fit.

writing about her life in blogs for The Tig, a site she launched in 2014.

"After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it's time to say goodbye

to The Tig," the 35-year-old Suits actress announced on Friday in a note published on

the website.

"What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing

community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity.

You've made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy.

Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being

'the change you wish to see in the world'."

Meghan shared anecdotes about her life on The Tig and she also documented her travels,

charity work, and love of food in posts for the website.

The inspirational lifestyle blog was launched one year after her divorce from husband Trevor

Engelson was finalised in 2013 and Markle's aim for the platform was to help build fans'

self-confidence.

"Above all, don't ever forget your worth - as I've told you time and time again: you, my

How can one define 'portrait'?

Is it this?

One must first determine what one needs to create a portrait.

What's the formula?

Two eyes, like these here or these.

What do they do?

They see and watch, they blink, they contemplate, they love and in turn are loved, they cry.

We have two lips...and a mouth.

Like this.

What does a mouth do?

What is its purpose?

Smoke, speak, kiss.

We use our mouths to eat.

And of course, a nose. How could I have forgotten?

It's very, very important.

But what are our eyes but two holes in the head?

And the nose?

The mouth?

In fact, a portrait consists of more than all these holes.

A portrait is composed of their functions, how they work together to form an expression,

a look, and how others perceive it.

For example, what do you think of these eyes?

Are they round?

Are they beautiful?

Have you ever seen eyes like these?

What do you think of this nose?

What is its shape?

Is it larger or smaller than other noses you've seen?

And how would you describe this mouth, and these lips?

Are they soft?

Are they moist?

Are they dry?

There you go!

You've just described what makes up a portrait.

There are more than 14 billion eyes in the world.

How can one say that a single pair is the most beautiful?

Or that a smile is the most charming?

Even when one says "you're one in a million", you're also saying "there's seven thousand just like you!"

It's easy to forget someone's eyes, their nose, their lips.

But as Maya Angelou said, "people will forget what you said, people will forget what you

did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Why do we make portraits?

We make portraits not just to capture someone's appearance, but rather to keep their memory,

their aura, how we feel around them.

To capture not their eyes, but what what they eyes tell you.

Not their smile, but why they smile.

So, allow me to ask my first question again.

How does one define a 'portrait'?

Shadows Within Dark Places When Freedom is Threatened

By R.E. Joyce Chapter I—The Calling

The two chastised children held the covers tight to their chins as their father continued

the story.

"Then the dark evil, Jadarr, ate the child in front of the townspeople, leering at them

as they watched in terror.

'The night belongs to me and your children are my supper if you do not keep them safe!'

The monster's evil voice grated in their minds as the townspeople fled the ghastly

scene."

The father cringed at the shock in his children's eyes.

Maybe now they would listen.

Darkness engulfed the kingdom, filling it with evil and strange happenings.

It was no longer safe.

Pained, having to scare his beloved children, he knew they needed to learn quickly the difficulties

of surviving or they would never be more than children.

It was not always so.

His childhood contained marvelous adventures and a life of beauty.

Now Mandarla and the rest of the kingdom cringed under the grip of an evil warlord as the darkness

spread across the world and into the minds of all.

Mandarla The warm shining sun filled the square.

The bustling shoppers kept all the merchants on high alert—time to strike a deal or go

hungry.

Their motto helped them peddle their wares, with deft words and gestures learned over

their family ancestry.

Mid-morning in Mandarla was a thing to behold.

The marketplace pulsed with life, and the surrounding streets filled with all sorts

of activities.

This morning, two of the rambunctious adventures remained out of sight.

Their father's tale the night before and their mother's punishment kept them deep

within the market stall away from the sun.

Hopefully, they learned the lesson of caution in times of trouble.

On hell's wings The beast attacked without sound, diving down

on the market square with the sun behind, making it all but impossible to detect.

Selecting a morsel for its meal, a child unaware of its fate, it descended and spread its bat-like

wings, blocking out the sun in the square, causing everyone to look up in horror.

They stood frozen in terror.

Talons reached down for the child, as the beast finally announced its presence with

an ear-splitting screech, but missed the child and fell to the ground with a thud not to

move again, a knife piercing its black heart.

The cry of the child's mother and the startled voices within the crowd gave the shadowy figure

the moment necessary to disappear.

"I saw him standing there defying the beast!" one shouted.

"He wore silver armor like the knife that destroyed the demon."

"No, no you fool, she was a beautiful woman dressed in black and her eyes shone like the

stars and made the beast miss!"

"Where did she come from?

I was watching the square the whole time?"

another asked.

"Could she be a spirit sent by God?"

Resuming a sitting position in an alley across from the commotion the observant stranger

draped the filthy cloak over stooped shoulders, removing any chance of discovery.

He risked detection but the child did not deserve such a death.

The time to act had arrived and he would begin the calling.

With a sigh, Jadarr stood and left the center of town to gather the forces to fight this

evil.

The shadowy figure chuckled about the story told the night before.

They made Jadarr an evil demon to teach their children, now that demon would save their

lives.

Gathered The boy's legs screamed for rest as he pushed

on through the forest to the crest of the mountain pass.

Lungs sucking frantically at the mountain air begged him to stop.

He crested the rise and beheld a beauty beyond expectation as the last hill ended and the

mountain vale filled his eyes.

He accomplished the first stage of his journey.

His speed and agility as a runner for the kingdom could not be outdone.

Horse and rider lost to forest trails and river currents.

The boy was one of the best and called for by the most senior court officials.

This run was different.

He did not see the one giving orders but he knew to obey without question.

His spine still tingled from the encounter.

The darkness seemed to deepen and the voice seemed to be without body yet stronger than

steel.

In the end, no matter the dread, he knew of only one choice; obey.

The beautiful valley gave a spring to his step.

He raced across the open field towards the cottage.

There, honing a scythe, a tall man stood calmly watching his approach.

"Stand and state your business," the man's strong, calm voice stopped his advance, befriending

while commanding attention.

The boy stood still gathering his wits.

Looking up at the tall stranger he spoke.

"I have a message for the warrior Cahal.

I can deliver it only to the warrior."

The boy held what little breath he had left and awaited the stranger's reply.

"You have reached your destination runner."

The command was evident and the stranger stood taller.

The first impressions of farmer and shepherd shattered, replaced by the vision of a powerful

mountain lion ready to strike.

"I am Cahal."

The boy remained silent and placed a leather scrap in the hand of the warrior.

Cahal looked and saw the ancient rune.

Pointing the boy towards the cottage, he turned and entered the barn.

"You will find food and drink in the cottage.

Take what you need for your journey and Godspeed on your travels."

The first calling He had been summoned once again, as he had

been many years ago.

Cahal had been no older than the runner the first time.

Most of his family had been brutally murdered when the dark stranger entered his life, saving

him and his two sisters.

His gratitude turned to commitment at the stranger's command.

"You will take up the sword and do battle for your kingdom."

He had of course honored that commitment and had proven himself in his youth.

Upon leaving the final battlefield, the most disturbing encounter happened.

Sleeping in woods on his way home, the shadowy figure once again came.

It stood before him but defied definition—only the voice remained locked in his mind.

"You have done well.

I will name you Cahal and you will be called once more when the kingdom needs you.

You will know my calling by the Rune of Eldron.

Heed the summons for you will be necessary."

Then as the voice faded, so did the Shadowed One and Crestendal, his given name, never

heard the voice again.

Crestendal found a pathway in life that took him away from the center of the kingdom until

he had finally reached this mountain valley and began his solitary and peaceful life as

a shepherd.

His two sisters had married, raised children and grandchildren, and left the world long

ago.

He remained seemingly locked in time on his mountain.

Crestendal never questioned his path in life, at least not until this day.

He had buried his youth and the Shadow's command.

Now it all came back as he walked to the back of the barn to dig up the old sword he had

once used in battle.

The years had never really washed away the stain of the warrior.

This he knew in his heart.

He had stepped away from the world because the pain of battle remained deep within.

Now the calling rang in his heart like a quickening.

Long forgotten surges of power coursed through his veins and the battle cry welled up within

him.

The pain and the ecstasy of the battle sprang to life and, once again, he hated himself.

On his mountain, there had been no need for a name and passersby were content with shepherd.

The town below used shepherd or no name at all on his infrequent visits to market.

Now, as he donned surprisingly supple leather, worn so many years ago, his childhood name

of Crestendal hurt.

He would not take the boy once again into a battle meant to bring his parents back from

death.

It did not work then and would only hurt once again.

He had clothed himself with revenge through many battles to steel himself from the pain

but had little success.

When the stranger gave him a new name he wrapped the pain in the name to be buried in the barn,

hoping to never touch its sharp blade again.

Now as he strapped on the sword he once again became Cahal, warrior for the Dark Shadow.

The second message The runner filled his sack with good stores

and water, leaving before the evening stars.

His lived the pathways of the world and he had two days to reach his next encounter.

Downhill he chuckled; I can make it in one!

He was surprised at the encounter with Cahal.

He expected an armored soldier ready for battle not a farmer with a scythe.

There was no mistaking the power behind those eyes.

They pierced all that stood before and cut them low.

Praying this summoning was for good, he picked up his pace.

The dark figure still filled his mind with obedience.

The destination, south out of the mountains, had no hazardous obstacles so he ran through

the starlit night.

Besides, cutting a day off the journey would become part of his growing legend.

The morning mist, pierced by the rising sun, melted on the fields as he greeted the cows

slowly moving towards the barn for milking.

The farmer stood stoically as the boy bowed and begged his pardon.

"I am a runner from the high court of the kingdom and I seek the warrior Elexion."

The farmer pointed to the next farm.

"That is the house of Elexion, but..."

He did not get to finish his statement as the boy raced around the barn once more towards

his destiny.

Upon reaching the next small farm, he saw a milkmaid to question and ran up to her.

As she turned, he almost stumbled.

Her beauty, beyond anything he had encountered in life, brought him to a stop.

Bowing and stuttering, he coughed to get his wits about him and asked: "Is this the home

of Elexion the warrior?"

"You are at the home of my father," her voice sang sweetly in his ears.

"But alas you are too late to meet him.

He has gone from this world now three months."

The song of her voice, filled with sadness, holding him in stunned silence staring at

her.

His dilemma eased as she continued.

"Come child; tell me what message you have for my father."

He fumbled with the patch of leather not knowing what to do.

The shade had been insistent on delivering the message to the warriors in person.

Seeing the patch, she gasped, "He has been summoned by the Shadowed One.

Hand me the rune."

"I am to deliver this to..."

"Do as I command boy!

I will stand for my father in battle.

The family of Elexion will heed the call."

Her words transformed from song to thunder, and the boy trembled as he held out the ruin.

The second calling She took the leather scrap and looked down

on the Rune of Cannol.

Now her hand trembled and even her courage seemed to waver.

The destiny of her father was now hers.

She would pick up his oath and give her life so others would find peace.

"You will find food and water in the house.

Let the cattle roam the fields before you leave and tell the next farmer you see to

take over the homestead."

She left the shocked runner captured by her melodious voice, barely noticing his hesitant

bow as she leapt the fence and headed south at a run.

Her name was Maeve, and her youth prepared her for this moment.

Her long legs took her south and once within the forest, she traveled within her element.

The stories of war were lessons memorized and her father had taught her sword, knife,

and bow to rival any of his old battle cronies.

What he did not teach was her sense of the world around her.

When hunting, she would tap a cougar on the head before it noticed her approach.

The forest and its animals became the playground of Maeve.

She did not strap on her father's sword.

It belonged to his war.

She had the three knives that served her well and she had a destination from his stories

around the fireplace.

Her sturdy clothing blended with her surroundings, and she set a pace she maintained throughout

the day.

Settling into her travel, Maeve found time to reflect.

As she thought of her father, her eyes moistened from the loss still so fresh.

He told her of wonderful things while he helped her understand the importance of defending

those who could not fight for themselves.

Her father's strong arms and steadfast determination filled her life and gave her bearing.

Yet the stories of the strange places he had visited in the war held the deepest part of

her heart.

Last winter, he became pensive and the stories changed.

He started talking about warnings and the future; not the past.

He told her of a land to the south she must go to.

He told her she would be given a sign meant for him and she would know what to do.

Late that night she set a camp, building a fire out of habit rather than need.

Settling down and watching the stars that peeked through the canopy above, she felt

its presence.

The young wolf, not shying from the flame, approached finding a spot next to the fire

and lay down without any cautious stares in her direction.

Maeve felt no fear within herself.

"Well, it seems I will have a companion on this journey."

The wolf lifted its head off its paws at her words, seeming to listen, and then laid back

down.

She did not question the purpose or the life path of the wolf—only the comfort the companion

gave her.

Princess of Thieves Each great city creates wonders and beauty.

They also, by their very nature, create opportunities for petty criminals and masterminds of the

underworld.

While most would agree Jentter was not a major criminal, she was never seen as petty.

In fact, those who knew her well would never dare to cross her.

She owned the city and followed her own path in life.

The meeting tonight once again summoned her and broke through her calm countenance.

She quietly passed through the alleys and found her way in the darkness to the rendezvous.

Only the stranger summoned her in this way and, while disturbed, she had grown accustomed

to their meetings.

Her five-foot-ten-inch frame, decked out in finery not normal to her occupation, moved

easily through the alleys.

The silk dress fit perfectly and the heels, while hard to run in, accentuated her slim

firm figure.

Her long hair normally rolled up in a hat or scarf, flowed down her back and gleamed

in the little light that it caught.

The perfume, a new touch and a five-fingered gift by one of her cohorts, hid the city's

aroma.

Maybe he would notice her tonight.

Why would she think such a thought she wondered for the hundredth time.

She slipped into the back of the abandoned store and looked around the room lit only

by a single candle on a table in the far corner.

He remained hidden in the shadows.

"Come and join me.

I have a fine wine and a cheese this kingdom can be proud of."

His voice, soft and haunting at the same time, called to her heart like no other, but the

deep sadness in the undertones made the Shadowed One unapproachable.

Quietly she crossed the room, sitting in the offered chair.

Looking up into the shadows she thought she heard a small gasp.

Maybe he does notice me?

"Jadarr," her voice trembled a bit but she pushed on.

"Will you ever come out of the shadows?"

There—she had asked the one burning question.

"Mine is not to dance in the sunlight.

That gift belongs to the beauty in you, Jentter.

Mine is to make sure the sun continues to light your world."

Once again his voice took on a very soft tone, soothing her heartbreak.

"Do not fret my beautiful thief, you will find a love beyond your imagining.

I will promise that, here tonight, as we begin the final calling."

Jentter gasped.

He read her heart as easily as she stole an apple from a cart.

Could there be a man better than the one who sat in the shadows before her?

They talked through the night making plans and sharing their findings within the kingdom.

As morning broke, she found her mind wandering while she put away the evening's costume

and donned her normal garb.

Jadarr's extensive knowledge was not gathered by just one, so more like Jentter fell under

his spell and aided in his quest.

She once again felt the twinge of jealousy and renewed her commitment to gain the best

information possible for the dark stranger who captured the heart of the princess of

thieves.

It hurt and intrigued her that she could not even describe Jadarr's height much less

the color of his eyes.

The mystery now included his promise that she would meet a love she had never found.

"Oh, stop you fool!" she mumbled to herself and finished dressing.

The next challenge brought more mystery than the shadowy voice.

Get Krendar released from prison and a sentence of death.

She had heard stories of his dastardly deeds and, if they were even partly true, he did

not deserve the Shadow's attention.

Why would he want such a criminal?

Checking her 'go to court outfit' she let the matter drop.

He never led her astray and she felt deep inside that following the shadow made life's

journey worthwhile.

Anyway—this was going to be a very fun day.

Bribing an official or two was one thing.

Bribing the prince to release the most dangerous prisoner in the dungeon was almost beyond

her talents.

Yes, this should be a very fun day, indeed.

Regarding the Author, R.E. Joyce, this story was given to me with the following explanation:

We were approached by a rather dusty old gentleman who stated flatly in a west Texas drawl, that

he "Found the scrolls while looking for gold."

His only requirement was to be left alone and that any reward could be left at the Western

Union station for his eventual return to civilization.

They were parchments dating back in history, and they told wonderful tales that filled

our staff with excitement.

Our happiness was so great that we chose to pen a name commensurate to the event.

Garden Update | Minnesota 2017 July Garden - Duration: 5:41.

hey guys at sing out with Danielle Minnesota vlogs I wanted to give you a

garden update I actually still missed earlier and just realized it's been a

little also the lighting isn't as good but hopefully it'll still work check out

our first video if you're interested and all go through everything I would say in

general we're a little disappointed my results so far but some things are doing

really well one of them being this pumpkin just growing out in our yard I'm

not sure who gave them enough room but he's doing really well mixed are the

strawberries we planted these really late so I honestly wasn't sure if we get

any this season comes already mid-july but I see tweedle wrong these little

guys starting turning red so people get to see strawberry sixth year which is

nice here are the out-of-control herbs we

really need a pair this bad for next year most of its oregano and we don't

even need to make it in a lot so that seems silly but there's some mint and

tribe and stuff like that my parsley is doing great I use a ton of parsley I

could eat parsley instead of spinach or lettuce I love it that much so that's

good our cilantro didn't do well at all it went to feed almost immediately I

don't know what we did wrong but we didn't get anything from it and then we

have two little rosemary plants and I am so was hoping these would do better they

they haven't grown all that much to be honest

onions they're nice and green I think we're watering enough but they're you

know splat on the ground some of the time so I hope they still will cause you

to produce them you can't let kind of see the onions

Goldeen up so something's happening

peppers in general are disappointing I think animals keep getting on so that

green pepper has nothing you can kind of see where animals have been chopping

them off this one's doing really well so

there's hope for that and then there's the yellow pepper

let me show me but pretty disappointing all in all on the pepper side which is

Fatima bell peppers cucumber seem to be doing really well no fruit yet but

they're flowering and then tomatoes I would say is a mixed bag for just

starting that one looks good there's nothing on that guy

maybe a couple over here my son and I we did today we kind of got leaves you've

grown this in so but it looks much better than it did this morning

um we lost all of our corn and use two tomato plants we think a deer or

something got it that is sad and then on to the fruit our

raspberries which we didn't expect any this year they're producing there aren't

a lot because we keep them as they come but that one looks ready and they're

really good there's another list shown here

and then this one we have our first one this morning even golden raspberry so it

gets a little more like orangish color that one's not ripe yet we had our first

one this morning that was written after the exam was very good and then this is

the blackberry bush I don't anticipate getting fruit severe but you can see

stuff happening so yeah we happy with that and that'll be really fun to have

this is our apple tree it isn't doing great I am wondering if it's slowly

dying which is bad because we love it but we since you have some apples that

are starting to come in so they're super delicious I feel different in you to

come in we actually just picked our first one today and it's so fun for you

though because known apples in the morning so that is everything give this

And there's no shipping.

It's just $15 is everything.

Right now they do only ship in the United States but hopefully maybe down the road that

will change.

So basically when you sign up for Luxury Scent Box what's really great about it is that you

get to go on and fill out a scent profile so you can basically answer questions.

Tell them what you like.

You know floral, spice, woodsy, sweet and then their specialists you know help match

you with perfumes in your preference range.

Or you can just go in and choose whichever one you want.

So before I talk anymore let's go ahead and open this month's box.

Now I did just get mine in a little plain white box and I don't know if that's how they

always come or if it's because it was sent to me.

I'm not really sure.

I open it up though and I do have a little Hello Summer postcard in there.

And then I've got my my little worms and then my Luxury Scent Box.

And then I get a little card that says thank you for becoming a member.

Matching you with the perfect scent one fragrance at a time.

So we get the little box and open it up here.

Now the first time when you first sign up your first month you're going to get this

silver and black travel case.

Which is just really sleek.

I like that.

And then quarterly with each seasonal quarter you will get a new case so you can mix up

your colors and stuff and put a little more fun pop into it.

But all you have to do is twist the cap and it comes up and you can spray it.

And let's go ahead and spray.

I'm not even sure what I got here.

But I'm going to spray.

I'm just going to let it air for a second.

Oh that is so good.

That is so good.

Now see when I signed up I said that I love florals and umm this is a gorgeous floral

smell.

I love this.

This is when I wish they had smell o vision cause it is really hard to tell you how good

a perfume smells.

Oh but that's great.

So let's see we are just supposed to pull up on this black part right here and there

is our fragrance sample.

What I got was the Versace Bright Crystal.

So mmm that is some good stuff.

I like that.

And as you can see that is a nice good sized sample.

Now this is supposed to last you on average 30 days.

I could easily see that lasting me 30 days.

And this is great because throw it in your makeup bag throw it in your purse.

Nothing is going to happen to this thing.

You don't have to worry about perfume spilling out.

And let's see I should probably mention that it is 30 ounces, you get 9ml and that's a

large size sample for a fragrance too.

That's more than other ones that I have seen.

So that is a really great deal.

Another really neat thing about their website too that I noticed is after you, you can take

the fragrance survey or you can just pick whichever one you want.

You don't have to take the survey.

But then you get to go in and pick the fragrances that you want from luxury high end designer

fragrances.

And there's like a little calendar and you can choose which one you want to receive each

month.

And you can mix them around.

Or you can be like this month I want Versace and next month I want Michael Kors.

And then you can go oh nevermind I don't want Versace let's put, you know, this there instead.

So it's totally customizable.

You can do it however you want.

It's just, I think it's a really neat deal.

I'm excited about this.

And I love fragrance.

I love and this smells so good.

It's not overwhelming it's just the perfect scent.

I really, I am very pleased with this.

And I didn't pick this one since they were sending it to me.

I just told them what I liked and this is what they picked for me so I would say their

fragrance specialists got it right on for me.
