Brothers and sisters, every priest stands daily
at his ministry, offering frequently those same sacrifices
that can never take away sins.
But this one offered one sacrifice for sins,
and took his seat forever at the right hand of God.
Now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool.
For by one offering, he has made perfect forever
those who are being consecrated.

there is no longer offering for sin.

Our reading from the holy gospel according to Mark.
- [Congregation] Praise the lord.
- Jesus said to his disciples, in those days,
after that jubilation, the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light.
And the stars will be falling from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then you will see the son of man coming in the clouds
with great power and glory.
And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect
from the four winds, from the ends of the earth
to the end of the sky.
Learn a lesson from the fig tree.
When its branch becomes tender and sprouts leaves,
you know that summer is near.
In the same way, when you see these things happening,
know that he is near at the gates.
Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away
until all these things have taken place.
Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will not pass away.
But of that day or hour, no one knows,
neither the angels in heaven nor the son,
but only the father.
The gospel of the lord.
- [Congregation] Praise to you, lord, Jesus Christ.
- That fake newspaper called the National Inquirer
has a tagline.
We know what the tagline is.
Inquiring minds want to know, okay?
It's part of the human condition.
We want to know.
Especially knowing when we watch the television station
or the weather channel, when bad weather is coming our way,
we want to know.
We want to be prepared.
And so, you know, Jesus is talking about the things
that are gonna happen as part of being prepared,
that are gonna happen before the final coming,
his second coming.
And he tells of the events that will immediately precede,
and they really don't sounds too good.
However, for those people who are followers of the lord,
it's going to be a great time.
Those who are his disciples, the faithful,
they will have nothing to worry about.
Jesus said, he will send out the angels
and he will gather his elect from the four winds,
from the ends of the earth to the end of the sky.
So all of those doomed people out there
who are prophets of doom, who are saying that we've gotta
be prepared, we've gotta fight and all this kind of stuff.
We have to fight with love.
And with fighting with love, then, we're letting
the love of God live through us,
and that's how we will be prepared.
So we won't have to fear the second coming
because for those people who are of faith,
it's gonna be a glorious time.
The lord's gonna gather us up together again.
But as to when this will happen, we don't know.
We don't know the day or the hour.
So any time that you hear something from somebody
who claims that they know when Jesus is coming again,
it's a bunch of baloney, right?
Right?
Because even Jesus said in the gospel,
but of that day or hour, no one knows.
Do we trust in Jesus?
Of course we do.
Do we trust that he knows right here
that he even doesn't know?
He says neither the angels in the heaven nor the son,
but only the father knows that time.
And so we should be people, then, who don't live in fear.
That we're not afraid.
Because we are people of the word of God.
We trust in his word.
We trust that he loves us.
We trust that he's not out to get us.
And so that second coming should not be a time
of fear for us.
It should be a time of joy.
Joyful expectation.
'Cause the God who loves each one of us,
the God who created each on of us,
the God who loves us unconditionally is the God
who is gonna bring us home.
St. Paul says that while we're here,
we are people who walk by faith and not by sight.
Okay, we don't know the day or the hour.
We don't know what's gonna happen or what's going to be,
what the kingdom of God is gonna be like
once we get to heaven, we don't know that.
But while we're here, we're people who walk by faith.
And we show that, then.
We show that by living not in fear.
Not in fear of the God of love and mercy,
but in confidence of his love and mercy.
One of the songs that's one of my favorite songs is called,
You Are Mine by David Haas.
And the refrain of that song really kinda
puts it all together.
