Why You Might Not Want to Be 'The Smart Kid' - Duration: 5:16.[ ♪ INTRO ]
When you look or looked around your classroom, it's usually pretty easy to identify the
so-called "smart kids".
They're typically the ones who get the best grades, and who often stick their hands up
first to answer the question.
Depending on how you approach things, thinking of your classmates — or yourself — this
way might not be the best idea.
Doing well in school is definitely a good thing, and actually being smart is good.
General intelligence plays a big role in people's lives, and is related to educational achievement,
income, and how long you live.
But how you think about your abilities could lead to some problems.
Specifically, if you think you can't change them, or if you worry what other people will
think when you mess up.
Lots of scientists have studied intelligence, but many of the ideas about how people think
about being smart have come from a researcher named Carol Dweck.
Starting around the 1980s, she proposed that kids from preschool to junior high are inclined
toward one of two big ideas about their abilities and goals.
At one end of the spectrum, they might subscribe to the entity orientation, which is the belief
that your abilities are innate and fixed.
In other words, if you're good at something, it's probably because you're a natural
at it, not because you worked hard.
At the other end is the incremental or mastery orientation, which says that, with effort,
you can improve your abilities, and learn to do things better.
These two concepts were supported by Dweck's research, but in the 1990s, she took them
one step further.
In 1994, she and another researcher conducted a study that observed 78 four- and five-year-olds.
The study found that the kids were already starting to develop consistent preferences
for activities.
For example, they might prefer to do a puzzle they had already done over trying a new one.
It also found that the kids who wanted to keep doing older puzzles were more likely
to give negative self-evaluations when completing a more challenging puzzle.
They were more likely to make comparisons to others, too.
Based on this, Dweck proposed that these two orientations —tt entity and incremental
— didn't just exist: They also came with their own motivations and goals.
Specifically, people with a incremental orientation were more interested in putting effort toward
mastering new skills.
Meanwhile, those with an entity orientation were motivated more by performance goals,
like what others would think of them.
Thanks to work by other researchers, Dweck figured that these orientations came from
what kind of praise kids got growing up.
Basically, if you got a lot of praise for being smart, it would lead you toward an entity
orientation, and you might get more nervous about screwing up.
After all, failing might not make you the supposed "smart kid", anymore.
On the other hand, if you were praised more for the effort you put into things, Dweck
said you'd be more interested in putting more effort toward learning new skills.
And you'd have an incremental orientation.
Over time, these two orientations came to be called a growth and fixed mindset.
"Growth" for the idea that you can master new skills through challenging yourself, and
"fixed" for the belief that your abilities are stable.
Today, psychologists are pretty confident that these mindsets are a reliable way of
thinking about yourself.
But despite what you might see online or in parenting blogs, that doesn't necessarily
mean one mindset is better than the other.
The truth is, when you look at the research, there's actually mixed evidence about how
these ideas play out in real life.
Some studies do suggest that having a fixed mindset might not be great when it comes to
academics.
Take a 2007 study of nearly 400 kids in New York Public Schools, for example.
In it, researchers found that seventh graders with a fixed mindset had worse math grades
at the start of the study, and that they didn't improve their grades over the next two years.
Meanwhile, those with a growth mindset started out a little better, and then kept improving.
Then again, more recent papers have painted a less clear picture about if mindset really
matters at all.
In a more recent meta-analysis, researchers looked for studies that measured both students'
mindsets, and reported some academic outcome, like standardized tests or GPA.
They found that, over 129 studies, the two things were related, but pretty weakly.
In other words, mindset did make some difference, but there were probably lots of other things
more important to kids' grades.
This was supported by the fact that some studies trying to change people from a fixed to growth
mindset didn't seem to improve academic achievement compare to controls.
Admittedly, this could be because the students' mindsets didn't actually change after a
few days in the classroom.
But it could also be because your mindset isn't everything.
So if you think of yourself as smart, and if people have praised you for that throughout
your life, that's okay.
It doesn't determine your future.
But if you feel like being the smart kid means there's a lot of pressure to get good grades
and never make any mistakes, it's probably also okay to step outside your comfort zone
and try some new things.
Everybody fails sometimes, and that's alright.

Will This Catfish Pull Off the Ultimate Fake Out? | Singled Out | MTV - Duration: 11:35.On this episode of MTV's S1ngled Out, we have 25 single women.
These are the IRLs in real life,
but over here we have 25 dating profiles.
They are the URLs on our URL board.
All 50 of them are competing to be picked by one hopeful
who won't see any of them until the final round.
What do you think?
And, just like on any dating app,
these URLs could be catfish.
We never said this would be easy.
Our hopeful on this episode is
Kwasi, who you might remember from season seven of MTV's
Are You The One?
I don't always want to be a beast.
I'm Conceited and here's your host who's freestyle skills
are as red hot as her hair,
Justina Valentine kicking off round one.
We would love to keep all 25 of these lovely ladies,
but we got to narrow them down to eight
or less using these categories. We have age, height, music,
commitment, goals, and social media.
C-O-N, did you get the answers from all these lovely ladies?
You know I got all the answers, Justina,
but I did something a little better.
I had posted their answers right on the front of everybody,
so none of them can cheat or change their answers.
Okay.
So, Kwasi, we got your back, and don't worry,
the URLs are also locked in.
Now, first of all, women don't cheat, right ladies?
So, don't worry about that, Con. Alright.
Now, Kwasi, the ball is in your court.
Today is the day. What category are we starting with?
Let's go with height.
Oh, alright. You trying to be like
Fat Joe and get all the way up?
Or you trying to be like Lil' Jon and get low?
I do love my tall women.
Uh-huh.
But, let's get low. Let's get rid of all the way up people.
You want to get low? Yes.
All the giraffes gotta go.
Giraffes, get up out of here. Long necks.
They belong on the basketball court.
You gotta go.
Go shoot hoops.
That's a tall glass of water.
She could help Lebron in the playoffs.
Woo.
Ay, ay, Kwasi. Eyes right here, buddy.
They're gone. Alright. Where we going next?
Let's go with goals.
Goals. Okay.
You want your shorty to be doing the most or doing the least?
So, my girl she has to,
you know what I mean, have her goals on point.
Right.
I need someone that's going to run the world with me.
Okay.
So, whoever was doing the least, get rid of them.
You're doing the least, peace.
Get rid of them.
Peace. Get rid of them.
Instagram modeling does not count.
Instagram models, so long.
Even the URL board is dropping. Alright.
Y'all doing the least.
We making some progress, Kwasi.
Now, Kwasi, you have one more category to choose,
so choose wisely.
Let's do commitment.
Commitment.
You feel me?
Okay, Kwasi.
Is my man looking for an eternal flame or disposable lighter?
Just like the show that I was on-
Uh-huh.
I'm looking for the one.
Woo.
Get rid of that disposable lighter, man.
Y'all gotta go.
Peace.
That was your last flame, baby.
Look at the board. We lost three on the URL.
Now, we have three left also.
Wow. Alright. That's it.
We're down to three IRLs and three URLs,
which means it's the end of round one.
Conceited, tell us about our IRLs.
IRL number one introduce yourself for Kwasi.
Hey, Kwasi. My name's Deanna.
I know you haven't found your one,
but I could be your 10.
She's talking that. She's talking that.
I like that.
IRL two introduce yourself for Kwasi.
Hi Kwasi, my name is Sophie and I want to be your trophy.
Last but not least, introduce yourself for Kwasi.
Hi Kwasi, my name is Faith and I'm faithful,
so what more could you ask for.
I'm not going to lie, Kwasi, she's cute.
Let's see what we got on the URL boards.
Brianna says, "Hey Kwasi, I'm Brianna,
but you can call me future Madam President.
Wanna run the world with me?
It might be a young Michelle Obama in the making.
Jenny says, "Hi Kwasi, I'm Jenny.
You wanna a real woman?
You're in luck 'cause I'm plenty".
She's got a monkey on her back.
Monkey.
It might be a lot of monkeying around.
I don't know if you're into that type of thing.
Molly says, "What's up, Kwasi?
I'm Molly, but my only drug is you...".
So, listen. In round two, Kwasi's got to challenge
for the IRLs and a challenge for the URLs
that's going to help him decide who he wants to keep.
Now, only one IRL and one URL can stay
and make it to the final round. You ready, Kwasi?
Let's get it. Let's get it. Let's get it.
Alright. Let these IRLs know what you want them to do.
Okay. I really appreciate a woman
who's in touch with her creative side.
Draw me a self portrait to show your artistic skills,
and I'll pick the one with the most talent.
You got 20 seconds.
On your mark, get set, go.
Let's go. Let's go. You only have 20 seconds.
How they looking? How they looking?
How they looking?
20 seconds.
Number one can't draw. It's looking like stick figures.
Number two's drawing a selfie. All I see is a head.
Okay.
I'm seeing a Mrs. Potato Head, Kwasi.
I see a Mrs. Potato Head.
How's number three looking?
Number three's looking aight.
Time. Time. Time. Time. Time. Markers dropped. Rip it off.
Rip, rip it off. Markers dropped.
Justina, we got some drawers.
Let's see. I'm going to say ...
There's no Picasso's in the building,
but let's see what we got.
Okay. I see the hips.
Yeah, you know what-
As a matter of fact-
Con kept this one on the front
because I think he wants to actually take it home.
Yeah, let me take this, Kwasi.
Alright. We got number two.
Okay.
Alright. That one's a little-
Number two got like a-
Yeah. That's how big her head is?
Hey, big head.
Alright, and then we got number three.
I like that.
That one's kinda cute? Okay.
I like that. I like that. Number three. Number three.
Alright. Number three, those art classes paid off, baby.
Conceited, get the other two broads up out of here.
You, you, get to stepping. Go ahead. Peace.
Kwasi, enough about the IRLs. You have your IRL.
What are we going to have the URLs do?
Okay. So, URLs, not to be cocky,
but I do get a lot of girls that slide in my DM's.
Talk it.
It's hard to keep up and keep track.
Show me how you'll slide into my DM's to get my attention.

Brianna, let me see what you would do.

Okay.
Let's go to the next one.
Jenny, what you got? Oh. Oh, hold on.

Let's see, Molly.

Some pizza and some pussy?
Yeah.
Aight, P squared, he's feeling the pizza and pussy,
so that's what it is. URL number one it is,
and now we've made it to the final round.
We have one IRL and one URL,
so now you have a big decision to make.
I'm going to turn you around, show you your two options,
so we can get it popping. Con, come give your girl a hand.
Dope.
Whoa.
Okay. Give us a quick brief about these two ladies.
Now, remember Kwasi, you picked her
because of her beautiful self portrait
which obviously this is it in real life,
and now you picked her
because she had the kitty cat, the pizza.

but you know this could be a catfish.

Let's ask these ladies the questions
and see who's the most compatible.
Okay.
You ready? Let's get it.

Must See Movies Of 2018 That Completely Flew Under The Radar - Duration: 10:41.Year after year, a ton of incredible films are released only to end up going largely
unnoticed, and 2018 is no different.
But don't worry about missing out on all the future classics slipping under the radar:
we've got the scoop on the very best.
Writer-director Chloé Zhao 's The Rider breaks the barriers of what a true story film can
be.
Real-life South Dakota rodeo rider Brady Jandreau leads as a faintly fictionalized version of
himself, and recounts the horror of the moment a horse trampled him, and the hardships he
faced afterwards.
Though shaken and stripped of the very thing that gave him purpose, Brady refuses to succumb
to sorrow and journeys across the badlands to find a new identity.
Jandreau's performance comes across nuanced and naturalistic, gorgeously complemented
by shots of the South Dakota sky.
On the whole, the film's ability to deliver its dizzying narrative in a beautiful package
makes it critically acclaimed but unfortunately underseen.
In Academy Award-winning director Sebastián Lelio's Disobedience, wanting what you can't
have isn't just a simple taboo.
Disobedience stars Rachel Weisz as Ronit, a non-practicing Orthodox Jewish woman who
returns to her buttoned-up London community decades after her teenage romance with a female
school friend was found out.
Rachel McAdams plays Esti, the childhood friend who still holds the passion for Ronit in her
adulthood that she did in her youth.
Once reunited, the two fall into their feelings once more, a dynamic made more complicated
when Esti's husband Dovid gets involved.
Balancing risky dramatic material with a poignant rumination on centuries-long values, Lelio
creates a film that swirls with strife as intensely as it stupefies with its eventual
truths.
"So everything was alright when I left?"
"No…
I was… ill."
Adapted from Jim Shepard's psychological fiction novel Project X, And Then I Go chronicles
middle schooler Edwin's mounting stress as it snowballs into insomnia and anxiety.
Edwin's world changes after his best friend Flake suffers a particularly humiliating encounter
with a bully and suggests that he and Edwin silence their tormentors.
What unravels after Flake's idea is an intimate look into the peaks of violence and pain Edwin
rides through, and how the two boys' suppressed fury fuels their terrifying, life-or-death
plan to finally be accepted.
Ethan Hawke gives the performance of a lifetime in First Reformed, the mesmerizing loss-of-faith
drama thriller from writer-director Paul Schrader.
Hawke plays Reverend Ernst Toller, a middle-aged pastor who works at a centuries-old Dutch
Reform church that draws in more tourists than it does parishioners.
Grappling with his own grief and dependence issues, Toller faces a harrowing new challenge
when he meets pregnant parishioner Mary and her suicidal husband Michael.
Michael's radical beliefs compound Toller's spiritual crisis, which leads to his final,
violent trial in an ending that will leave you with plenty to think about.
This isn't your mama's movie about parenthood.
From director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody, Tully stars Charlize Theron as Marlo,
a struggling mother of two who's pregnant with her third child.
At Marlo's baby shower for her daughter, her wealthy brother Craig offers to gift her a
night nanny, a young woman named Tully.
Though reluctant at first, Marlo later agrees to Craig's proposition, and she, her husband
Drew, and Tully embark on a mind-bending journey that marries humor with surprising sincerity.
Led by up-and-comer Elsie Fisher, Eighth Grade follows 13-year-old Kayla Day as she completes
her final week of middle school.
Kayla is awkward but well-meaning: she creates motivational YouTube videos and encourages
others to carry themselves with confidence that she doesn't seem to have herself.
She's every young teenage girl, and Bo Burnham's writing and direction perfectly captures that
in a sweet, heartwarming, true-to-life movie.
"One more week of eighth grade, right?"
"Yeah."
"That's crazy."
"Yeah, huh."
"I can't believe you're gonna be in high school."
"Mm-hm."

just before the boiling point: war veteran Will and his 13-year-old daughter Tom have
been living in an isolated section of a public park.
When the survivalist duo make one small misstep, social services come calling, taking them
in for extensive evaluations and setting them up with everything they need to live a normal
life.
Though confused as to why anyone would have previously considered her and her father homeless,
Tom tries her hardest to adapt to her new environment and embrace her surroundings;
her father, however, grows increasingly rigid as both father and daughter try to understand
each other and their place in the world.
"Think it might be easier on us if we try to adapt."
"We're in their clothes, we're in their house, we're..."
Fifteen years after the death of children's television pioneer Fred Rogers, director Morgan
Neville invites audiences to celebrate the life of the benevolent host of Mister Rogers'
Neighborhood and honor the good-heartedness and empathy he taught.
More than just a single-subject documentary, Won't You Be My Neighbor?
examines Rogers for who he was outside the PBS series and beneath his cozy cardigans.
It reminds viewers that Rogers was far more amazing than anyone knew, the kind of compassionate
creative that the world could use many more of.
Anyone who doubted Nick Offerman's ability to play characters other than the mustachioed
Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation needs to watch Hearts Beat Loud.
Offerman shines as Brooklyn-based widower and musician Frank in the Brett Haley-directed
drama that brings together the magic of music and the intricacies of a father-daughter relationship.
When Frank and his daughter Sam find success after Frank uploads one of their songs to
Spotify, their lives shift in a new direction.
Rather than explore what happens to a parent and a child who hit the road like real rock-and-rollers,
Hearts Beat Loud pulls the story inward, documenting Frank's fears of his daughter leaving New
York, Sam's blossoming feelings for her girlfriend Rose, and the pair's dual acceptance that
life may be scary, but that's what makes it beautiful.
Everyone who took a high school-level psychology class will know that one of the most popular
debates in the field is that of nature versus nurture, whether we are the way we are because
of our genetics or because of our upbringing.
Three Identical Strangers, an equally harrowing and heartwarming documentary by Tim Wardle,
sticks that question under a microscope as it centers on Bobby, Eddy, and David, identical
triplets who were separated at birth, each adopted by different families of different
socioeconomic classes.
The trio discover one another by chance in 1980, 19 years after their birth; Bobby and
Eddy found out they were "twins" after Bobby was mistaken for Eddy on their college campus,
and David learned he was the third brother following press coverage of Bobby and Eddy's
reunion.
But the joy-filled homecomings quickly turn dark as the triplets search for answers behind
their adoptions, which lead them to shocking, life-altering secrets they were likely never
meant to uncover.
Based on Emily M. Danforth's 2012 novel of the same name, The Miseducation of Cameron
Post centers on Chloë Grace Moretz's Cameron Post, who is outed as a lesbian when she's
caught kissing her female best friend.
Soon after, Cameron's conservative aunt orders her to undergo conversion therapy at a center
called God's Promise.
There, Cameron forms friendships with a handful of other teens who, like her, put up a fight
against being "re-educated."
It's a stirring coming-of-age movie that's absolutely worth seeing.
Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs prove to be triple-threat talents in Blindspotting, the
comedy-drama the pair wrote, produced, and starred in under the direction of first-time
feature filmmaker Carlos López Estrada.
Diggs leads as Collin, a felon who's so close to the end of his year-long probation, he
can practically taste it.
Casal plays his best friend Miles, a troublemaker who offers no support to Collin in helping
him make it through the fateful final 72 hours of his sentencing.
Where Collin longs for a new beginning, Miles actively seeks out danger in the rapidly gentrifying
streets of Oakland, California.
The pair's lives splinter when Collin witnesses a white cop kill a black man, and Miles' fixation
on violence and his increasingly trigger-happy mentality threatens to have devastating consequences.
Those who missed out on seeing Blindspotting in its original release should remedy that
misstep ASAP, and see why critics are calling this provocative, timely, wholly underappreciated
movie one of the most unique films of 2018.
"You went to jail on a fire technicality."
"Did I?"
"Yes!
How were we supposed to know hipsters are so flammable?"
Regina Hall leads Support the Girls as Lisa, the general manager of Double Whammies, a
Hooters-esque restaurant.
Lisa and her co-workers are trying to make it as well as they can in the world of customer
service, until they find themselves stuck in a particularly heinous day.
Lisa tries to hold it together, but every hour seems to bring even more problems.
The real world bites, the girls learn, but they bite back.
Support the Girls is rock-solid and rollicking, able to handle heavy themes while still remaining
buoyant.
Writer-director Crystal Moselle takes viewers to the concrete jungle, to the inner workings
of a young woman's mind, and to the half-pipes, tramps, and grinding rails of New York's many
skateparks in the down-to-earth drama Skate Kitchen.
The film is an R-rated exercise in just how good movies can be when they're simplistic
and realistic.
The movie follows introverted teenager Camille who joins the all-girl skateboarding group
Skate Kitchen.
Camille's world cracks open wide thereafter: she leaves home, begins falling for her new
roommate's ex-boyfriend, fosters confidence, and fights misogyny.
Most importantly, she learns how great life can be with a pack of like-minded ladies at
your side.
In the mystery-thriller Searching, John Cho stars as David Kim, the father of 16-year-old
Margot, who goes missing without a trace after visiting a friend's house for a group study
session.
David begins searching for answers in Margot's laptop, retracing the steps she took online
in hopes of bringing her home before it's too late.
What follows is a heart-stopping, jaw-dropping journey to uncover the truth behind his daughter's
disappearance, which is darker and more complex than David could have ever imagined.
With its unique approach, well-sustained suspense, tight pacing, and a final twist you'll never
see coming, Searching is one of the best movies of 2018, and the most original thrillers in
recent memory.
Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly star as sibling gunslingers Charlie and Eli Sisters
in director Jacques Audiard's witty and emotionally weighty Western The Sisters Brothers.
Adapted from Patrick deWitt's novel of the same name, the 1851-set film follows the rebellious,
liquor-loving Charlie and the contemplative Eli as they travel through the northwest United
States on the hunt for chemist Hermann Warm.
Hermann has created a formula for prospecting gold, which makes him a target for the Sisters'
boss and a detective played by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Unpredictable and atmospheric, with a story made all the more enjoyable by Phoenix and
Reilly's brilliant performances, The Sisters Brothers is a Western that you should see
as soon as possible.

HOW TO PLAY REINHARDT FROM AN OVERWATCH PRO | LA VALIANT FATE - Duration: 3:04.hey guys it's faith these are my basic Reinhardt tips
the first tip is your right click
why people play Reinhardt because of this
this right click is huge and it's 2,000 of HP try to block their shots but try
to manage your shield yeah try to not die like Reinhardt it's like 2500 HP tanks so
like if you died so early then like without using your shield your team lose
like 2500 HP tank so you have to stay alive as long as you can
the next tip is Reinhardt charge you have to use it really carefully because if
you use it bad and you'll die in like one second so don't charge enemy into
the open space try to pin enemy to the wall don't pin like this like don't pin
like far then it's hard our team to support you and your die really easy but
if I charge like this then it's more shorter and like is easy to hit the
charge you need to practice it's a little bit hard but you can do it
for my earth shatter tips if you have earth shatter and if your team is playing brig tell tell your team
brig to stun the Rhine and after they use Zaria bubble you you can brig
communicate and call the stun like three two one and just stun Rhine and Shatter
it'll be huge my last tip with Reinhardt
left click and fire strike when I play Rhain is really it's good to play at the
corner like this like when you play corner like then when enemy team's
coming like you can swing at the corner like this peek and go back and peek and
go back and like you will take less damage and you'll get a lot of ultimate
I mean if they have right now but like fire strike to like you you hide and
like you can peek with your shield like this and check enemy's position and we
can like a left click left click or and pick and fire strike so I like this this is my
basic reinhardt tips thank you for watching like and subscribe and write
comments please

Important Message From Raoul Pal | Real Vision™ - Duration: 8:52.Hi, I'm Raoul Pal, co-founder and CEO of Real Vision.
You probably know that by now.
I just wanted to talk to you all a bit about some of the changes going on in Real Vision
so you understand where we're going.
As you know, Real Vision is really an inclusive business, and
we really care about letting you know where we're going as a business, how we're thinking
about things, so you can enjoy the revolution that
we're creating in financial media and come with us on
this great journey.
Our first objective when we started this was to democratize financial information.
And that started by bringing you the greatest guests in the
world, the people who'd never appeared before.
And I think we really hit a high point recently
when we got Stan Druckenmiller on.
He'd never done an hour-and-a-half interview before.
And that was really something that was really dear to us, to get
people like Stan Druckenmiller to you.
And that's part of our core mission, this democratization.
Now, that means a lot of things, but really, to us, it means bringing everybody
into the financial world.
We don't just want to be the hard core specialist content producer that
we're also known and loved for, but we want to bring
other people into the broader world of finance.
It's really important for us, if we believe and care
in the financial industry and the financial markets, that we bring as many people in to
them as possible.
I think the media's basically done a terrible job in doing that.
And I think it's not right that it's been done that way.
It's people's finances we're talking, their life savings.
This is their 401(k)s.
These things are really important, and we should
really treat them with importance.
So the next phase of our business is starting to unfold.
And I think you should be aware of what's going on so you truly understand and can support
us in this journey.
You'll have probably seen that the platform has changed recently.
We've now moved towards a series-based approach, so it
looks a bit more like HBO or Netflix.
Now, that's done purposely.
And the reason we've done this is for you to choose exactly what content
you want to watch.
What's important for you personally?
The Real Vision of old was a bit more like TED Talks, which was like a fire hose of stuff,
and you liked or disliked stuff.
But that doesn't work when you broaden out content as we keep building on
what we've done so far.
Different people have different needs.
Some like the really kind of wonky, deep finance pieces.
Other people need more engaging, interesting content that makes it
a slightly lighter journey into finance.
Now, those two are very different people often.
I'm actually one of the bizarre people.
I love shows like The Knock-On Effect because I think
it brings an engaging, interesting view that makes
me think, but I also like the deep-dive interviews.
There are certain other types of programming that I use less of.
So I've got my platform set up that I look at the shows that I want to watch, and I encourage
you to do so.
Don't think of consuming everything.
There's just going to be too much content.
What I really care about is that you get exactly
what you want and that you see it.
So you see in the November 17th, 2018 - www.realvision.com
Important Message from Raoul Pal news shows, it tells you, just like Netflix,
that there's a new episode of the show that you like, the
ones that's relevant for you.
So why are we doing this really?
It's because we need to bring a whole load more content.
We have a whole business built around what's
known as a content funnel.
It starts with the very most specialist stuff.
That's the hour-and-a-half deep dive with Stan Druckenmiller.
It moves into the Expert Views and the more thematic pieces.
Then it gets into the more educational pieces, which is
like the Trade Ideas.
Now, that still requires a deep level of financial knowledge, so the next level of the funnel
is the broader one, and that's for people who have
less knowledge.
This is getting young people involved, getting them to understand, and
then bringing them down the funnel.
Getting them engaged in finance, and then getting them
to really understand more and want to know more so
they, too, can become experts.
You see, we can't be an exclusive club.
For us as a business, it doesn't make sense.
And for our broader mission, it doesn't make sense either.
We have to allow broader content onto the platform.
And I know some of you have seen some of the things we've been trying with The
Knock-On Effect and other things, and some of you love them.
Some of you don't, and that's absolutely fine.
That's the world we should be in.
You see, what we can't be is elitist.
And there's a lovely story about this.
Well, I don't know if it's a lovely story because I'm still scarred by
it, but there's a story about this that's how I think about it.
If you think of things in an exclusive way that we're only allowing people into our club
who can be professionals, who know what they're doing,
then we create a club that I personally don't want
to be a member of.
I like a world where we actively encourage new people to come into it,
actively reach out to help them in their journey of understanding and learning, whether that's
the comment section or whether it's the content
itself.
And many years ago, I stupidly decided I'd try and play golf.
And I hacked and sliced my way around various golf courses for a number of
years, basically throwing my clubs down, storming off, and that kind of stuff.
I just was not very good at it.
But golf in the end came down to one thing.
I was on a golf course in Spain, and there I was
teeing off, having been hooking and slicing my way around.
And behind me was a couple, an elderly couple, and they were good golfers.
And as I hooked it again, I could hear them behind
me tutting, saying, they shouldn't be on the golf course.
And I said, you know, fuck you.
I've got to learn.
You had to learn.
You can't stop me learning and don't allow me on the golf course.
That's not a sport I want to be involved in.
So that was the end of my golf.
And I think of the same with Real Vision.
We just can't do that to people we have to allow people
on.
So here's the key.
We're going to be bringing on a whole load of content for a broader
audience and we're not going to reduce anything of the specialist content.
In fact, we're going to November 17th, 2018 - www.realvision.com
Important Message from Raoul Pal add more to it.
So just think of our world as doubling and tripling, quadrupling.
If you remember Netflix in its early days, there was pretty much nothing to watch.
Then they added more content, and more content, and
more content, until you had an embarrassment of
riches and everybody can find something they want.
So my Netflix experience-- well, I'll never watch horror movies because I can't stand
them, and I'm not really keen on Disney movies.
However, I'll watch a lot of documentaries.
Now, if I look at my girlfriend's feed, she'll be looking at different things to me.
And that's how the world works.
Now that's the new world of video.
It allows everybody to have a bespoke experience.
The other thing that we're going to be doing is we're going to be offering a part of Real
Vision, a slice, the edge of Real Vision, to a much
broader audience for free.
It's called The Edge, and you'll see it.
We're launching within, for example, Interactive Brokers, where it goes to 600,000
of their customers.
And it's examples of Real Vision content, real time, but just 20% of it.
And it's slightly skewed towards this broader content
band because we need to engage these broader audiences and bring people into the financial
world.
So that whole free strategy, you'll see content coming on to Real Vision, which is aimed at
this different audience.
You'll get it all, so you get everything.
I mean, that's the great thing.
For $180 a year, you get a ridiculous amount of content,
and it's going to double or triple in size over time.
And I'll probably speak more about this in the new year.
But really, you're going to get more of what you want.
Other people will get what they want.
Different people are going to have different experiences.
And you'll find, overall, you'll have a much richer, deeper experience.
You'll see a lot more of Real Vision, too, because it's launching
on Comcast, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon, Zoomo, and all sorts of other platforms.
And part of that will be free content, and part of it will
be the subscription model.
So there'll be a lot more of Real Vision out there.
You'll be able to watch on different devices, too,
because we care about how you consume our content.
We want to make it easy for you.
You've already got transcripts.
You've already got audio downloads.
We've given subtitles now, as well.
And you can watch later.
We've got the suite of apps as well.
So there's a whole bunch of stuff coming.
And it's all there to help us to fulfill our mission to
democratize financial information.
And we love the fact that you're so passionate about this
journey you're on with us, and we really, really appreciate you.
And we'd really appreciate your understanding as we help reach out to others
and bring them into this very important field and
very important part of the world's media.
Thank you.

4X4 Marienfluss to Serra Cafema, Namibia, Ruffcut 171 - Duration: 14:39.This adventure continues our 4WD in northwest Namibia.
Day 13 finds us breaking camp
in the lovely and remote Marienfluss plains.
Ben wants to fly his new toy.
It's cutting the grass. Yeah, not bad.
Hay, what a great lawn mower.
Can you make that squeak any louder?
I'm trying hard with WD40.
Got to wake you up somehow in the morning.
I think those are the landing pods of UFO's.
humm. Paper maps.
Haven't seen those in a while.
Old school. Look at all the technology in this car.
He's got 3 GPSs
and a
tablet with maps
and he goes back to paper.
I don't see a road here. Do you see a road?
Two tracks there.
Good enough.
Back on track.
foreign talk
Your good with water?
Ok?
Good.
Like? Yah.
And one more wanders out of the desert.
Grandma's coming.
Another child.
A home in the desert.
And the owner of the home is in the distance tending his cows.
4WD again?
Low 4 again.
There's a stop sign here.
Which direction does it indicate?
I don't know. Lets find out.
Trail #1.
Trail #2.
And a stop sign in the middle.
We are crossing out of one valley,
over a ridge and into another valley.
And some locals are also crossing over.
Ben offers them and the dog
some water from our rubber tasting Swiss bladder.
Ben is either telling them he has a dog
or he is a dog.
Who what they think.
They all get a refill.
He drank the whole thing again.
More?
thanx
Three bottles of water and three bowls of water later we set off.
Right takes us north.
I guess that's where we're going.
When we stopped for lunch we spotted a boy watching us in the distance.
So after lunch I went out and left him a gift on a rock.
I guess we're going over there.
Exclusive Use area.
Well,
I'm planning on using it exclusively.
This place is so exclusive
that US$ 500 a night guests
are flown in on private charters.
But that has never stopped Ben before.
Green valley, but how do we get down there?
It doesn't look good. Awfully steep.
He's searching for a way down.
How do you get down?
Straight down. Over this cliff?
Lets give it a try.
Well that wasn't very dramatic.
Looks like the car's frame is hung-up on the rocks.
Stuck on a cliff and nowhere to go.
Plan B is to dig out some sand,
raise the rear end,
place the sand grids
and then try to back off the rocks.
But the wind and Chinese jack aren't making it easy.
Ok, time to get the big boy out. The high jack.
Our helpers from the resort seem determined.
Turns out that the release on the highjack isn't working.
Ben can solve that problem.
The front has been raised now for the back.
Now to give it a try.
Success.
Now back to the original plan.
Drive over the cliff.
It's our only option.
Ben's car doesn't have the horsepower to go back up the slopes
to the upper plain from here.
We're effectively stuck in this little bowl.
The only way out is over and down.
Ben is building up his mojo.
It's now or never.
He makes it over the first hurdle.
Now down the sand slope
without losing control of the backend
to the following sand.
That would cause the car to slide sideways
and role down the slope.
Not a good option.
He's got to keep it in low 4 and control the fall.
He made it.
Man that was a steep descent.
Can I ask you to do it again so I can film it from the bottom?
Yeah now that I know how it works. No problem.
The next part of the plan
is to see if there is a discounted vacancy
or camping offered
at the Serra Cafema Resort.
Talk about an oasis in the desert.
Bradwin the manager welcomes us and tells Ben
that they haven't seen a car in over 2 years.
They then retire to the lounge
to discuss accommodation options.
What no camping?
Thanx for the ice tea
and sending us the helpers on the ridge
but we'll be on our way now.
Once away from the resort
we started the long and indirect traverse
back up onto the upper plateau.
But once again,
Ben's car is struggling with the sandy slopes.
But Ben is determined to make it to the top.
There's only one thing wrong with that plan.
He left me behind.
Do you have another hill
hat's it.
for me to run up?
I couldn't stop. Sorry.
You weren't picking up hitchhikers?
Didn't want to get stuck again.
Dam.
We didn't do that many km's but
it was the most
challenging day of all.
Out of beautiful Marianfluss c
amp here,
through those mountains where the Himba people were with no water
and that poor doggy with no water,
over the airfield, the down to
the detour route to Kunene.
Now we're somewhere here or almost in the Skeleton park.

Vladimir Putin Begins Series of Military Meetings in Sochi - Duration: 4:53.Comrades officers,
Good afternoon, colleagues,
Traditionally, in May and November of each year we hold a series of meetings on the Armed Forces' development.
These meetings with senior officials of the Defence Ministry, other departments, and leading defence industry enterprises, allow us to discuss key aspects of military construction and adjust our plans, if necessary.
Today's agenda includes a broad range of issues – from increasing the combat potential of the Army and Navy to preserving military parity and a strategic balance of forces in the world.
We see that, regrettably, the world situation has not become more stable in the past few years. It has even deteriorated in some regions. It is far from stable in the Middle East and Afghanistan. The state of affairs on the Korean Peninsula remains somewhat vague.
Despite the Minsk Agreements, the armed confrontation in the southeast is not subsiding. NATO continues building up its combat potential near our borders each year. The future of fundamental arms control agreements is hanging in the balance.
Under these conditions, we must see to the steady and balanced development of the Army and the Navy, making them capable of neutralising any potential threat without allowing anyone to push us into an arms race.
We must make flexible decisions that will not waste budget funds. Our progress in the past few years shows convincingly that this is exactly how we have learned to work.
What tasks in this regard I consider priority?
First, the combat training of the troops should be improved, including taking into account the experience of the operation in Syria. During maneuvers, command and staff exercises, sea voyages, it is necessary to work out more and more complex, non-standard, non-standard tasks,
to develop the practice of sudden inspections of units and formations, at the same time to keep the mobilization readiness of federal and regional executive authorities, as well as enterprises of the military-industrial complex and other sectors of the economy under constant control.
Secondly, it is necessary to continue equipping the Army and Navy with modern armament and equipment. We will discuss this problem in detail at a separate meeting. However, today I ask the Deputy Ministers of Defense, the commanders-in-chief of the species,
the commanders of the combat arms, to report on the transition of units and formations to new types of weapons and military equipment.
Thirdly, the most serious attention should be paid to educational work with personnel. At all times, high morale, the patriotism of officers and soldiers were the moral core of our Army.
These traditions must be revived and actively developed today. In this regard, I ask you to present the results of work on the formation of the military-political bodies of the Armed Forces, to report on the priority goals and current tasks that have been set for them.
Finally, I propose today to discuss our steps related to the possible withdrawal of the United States of America from the Treaty on Medium and Short-Range Missiles.
Once again, we are ready to conduct a dialogue with American partners on this key issue. And we hope that they will treat this with full responsibility. Because the decision of the United States to withdraw from the said Treaty, of course, cannot and will not remain unanswered on our part.
I recall in this connection that when the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, we then openly and honestly declared that we would be forced to take retaliatory measures. That was done. Now Russia has a hypersonic weapon capable of overcoming any missile defense system.
We hope that common sense and mutual responsibility will form the basis of a long overdue dialogue on issues of strategic stability and strengthening the collective security system.
Let's get to work.

Tips and tricks for building a view | Human Anatomy Atlas for zSpace - Duration: 1:28.Let's start in the skeletal system and choose the skull view.
I want to explore the facial skeleton.
A quick way to do this is to select the cheek bone, and then open up the hierarchy by clicking on this caret.
Selecting the facial skeleton from this list will highlight the anatomy on screen.
Let's customize our view.
Once a structure is selected I can fade or hide it using these buttons.
I'd like to add the brain to this view, so I'll go down here and select the Search.
After adding the brain, I can look around and see how it is encased by the skull.
If I want to see the brain by itself, I can go over to the systems tray and remove all of the bones from my view.
If I hide some of the brain but then later decide that I would like to get it back, I can go to the Tools menu and use the History buttons.
Let's build another view.
I'm going to the main menu and selecting the thoracic cage.
Using the system tray, I can add the respiratory and circulatory systems.
I want the whole skeleton on screen, so I toggle the skeletal system off and then on to get the entire system.
