- Hey guys.
Brad here.
Custom Offsets.
This is going to be an episode of hot-n-new suspension and
the lift that we're gonna be looking at is this
BDS 6 inch lift for 2014 to 2017 Silverado 1500 and
Sierra 1500's.
This is going to be for the trucks without the
magneride system.
BDS does offer a lift for the magneride trucks but
this one isn't.
This is just for standard suspension trucks.
The first thing, I guess, we'll talk about here is
BDS gives you these nice, beefy skid plates that
come with most all BDS lift kits.
This is gonna be the,
I guess they call this the front upper skid plate,
which will replace the factory plastic one.
That's there.
Oh wait.
Hold on.
So this is what it replaces.
This garden shovel here that GM gives you up front.
You get to replace it with this one.
Three 16ths plate.
This is gonna be you,
this would be the skid plate that actually covers the
differential.
That's why it has a drop in it.
This ones a quarter inch plate.
This is gonna go next to your differential skid plate to
protect the rear wheel drive actuator and
all that stuff.
That's on the differential too.
This is gonna be a quarter plate as well.
One of the really nice things that I always so that I like
about BDS is the finish that they give you on
all of their components.
The powder coat finish.
It's probably hard to see but it's like a
textured finish.
Its super durable, and super strong, and
super hard to get off 'cause we had some pieces power coated
that we wanted white from the BDS kit.
Our powder coater was telling us how much a pain in the ass
it was to sand blast this finish off.
So it's some tough stuff and I really like it 'cause
I think it holds up the best out of any of
the other finishes that I've seen on some lift kits.
But moving on.
For the front end stoll we're gonna keep going and
this is gonna be your lower control arm,
drop cross members, where yo see here.
This is where they bolt in place in the factory pockets and
relocate your control arms lower to
help your lower ball joint angles.
BDS also included their nice forged steel steering knuckles.
That's gonna be the left.
This is gonna be the right side.
In this kit, BDS also, they don't use a strut spacer.
The only way they do the front lift is with this lift strut.
So this is gonna be a six inch lift strut.
Which BDS included in this particular kit.
One of the things about that,
maybe some people don't know is that if you're gonna be
doing this yourself,
you're gonna probably have to take your front struts to
a shop that has coil spring compressor.
'Cause you need to compress the coils springs in order to
take your old struts apart.
'Cause you still have to swap your factory coil spring over
to the new strut.
So that's just one thing to keep in mind.
Moving on.
We have our differential drop which are gonna drop your
front differential down to help with the CV angles.
Then BDS also gives you this nice, beefy differential brace.
Which a lot of the other kits don't give you.
What that does is.
Once you lift the truck like this and
you move the differential down,
it puts more of an angle on you front U joint for
your front drive shaft.
A lot of the kits warn that there can be a vibration caused
from the lift at higher speeds.
Only when you're in four wheel drive.
BDS gives you this nice brace.
That's really supposed to help a lot to fight the
vibration issues and
make sure the differential isn't moving around too much
under a load.
So that's just one of the nice features that I like that
BDS gives you and not everyone else does.
This is going to be, I'm assuming, a sway bar drops.
I'm pretty sure.
These are sway bar drops, right?
To drop the front sway bar down to
keep that at a nice angle.
That's pretty much everything that covers the front
suspension components and you can see that most of the
kit is encompassed with front suspension components.
When you move to the back here this particular kit.
The customer decided to go with these five inch rear
lift blocks.
While BDS does offer to upgrade to a full lease spring
replacement pack in the rear.
Which I believe is an additional,
it's like, it's only like 400 dollars for this kit to
upgrade to the rear lease spring packs.
That's something I always recommend if you're looking for
the best ride quality, and all around ride comfort, and
towing capability.
I always like to recommend getting the full
lease spring replacement if you can afford it, but
blocks do the job.
Then these are gonna be the rear bump stop locations,
just to bring down the factory bump stops.
Then usually the customer decided to go with Fox 2.0's in
the back.
The front is not Fox because they're just using the
replacement struts.
The only way you can go with Fox upfront is to get
full replacement coil overs, which are
usually a couple grand.
So, that's a big price jump.
But those BDS front struts actually do ride really well.
One of the things I wanted to mention also,
with these, a lot of people don't know this.
With the 2014 and up GM half ton trucks.
GM was using three different conformed designs.
So each kit is different and you need to know what
your truck comes equipped with from the factory in
terms of which style control arm.
The three styles would be cast steel control arm.
There's a cast aluminum control arm, and
there's a stamp steel control arm.
So you need to take a look at your front control arms and
see what material they're made out of before you can
pick the right kit.
I think the mail difference is gonna be the size of
the ball joints and stuff when you
get your new knuckles here.
'Cause if you don't know and you order the wrong kit,
then I think the ball joints won't work in
the knuckles that they send you.
So that's something that anyone who has a 2014 and up
GM half ton truck with any lift kit.
You need to know what style control arms you have.
I think on our site all of our kits for those trucks have a
picture of the different control arms.
So it's a nice little reference so you can see
what each style looks like and compare it to your truck.
Figure out which one you have and,
if you cannot figure it out just send us a picture and
we'll be able to figure out for you.
But yeah that's about it I think for this kit.
Like I said this is the six inch BDS lift for
2014 - 17 Silverado 1500's.
- [Employee] Without magneride, right?
- Without magneride.
Like I said before this kit's for the standard suspension
trucks 'cause GM.
I don't think it's
Can you get a Silverado with magneride?
- [Employee] Yeah.
When I just looked it up it said with or without magneride.
- Okay so, magneride is basically GM's magnetic ride
control that they have or they do offer as an option on
the higher end trucks.
Most of the Chevy trucks, the Silverados, don't have it.
I'm pretty sure most Denalis do have it but
anyway that's just something to note.
To make sure you're also getting the right kit,
you're not buying the magneride kit.
'Cause I think the magneride kit is actually a
little cheaper, but
it doesn't include rear shocks.
Rather location brackets and that kinda stuff.
So, this is gonna be the standard suspension kit for
14, 17 Siverado 1500's BDS six inch.
Big dog.
Big dog style.
That's it.
Check us out next time for some more hot-n-new lift kits.
We're gonna get this one in the truck because
it's probably almost five o'clock and I have to go so.
So bye.
