Good afternoon.
A heatwave advisory has been issued in Daegu and parts of the Gyeongsang-do Provinces with
a high of 35 degrees Celsius expected in Daegu... under sunny skies and high UV levels across
the nation.
Gwangju will get up to 32 degrees Celsius and Daejeon will rise to 31 degrees...
Seoul will top out at 29 degrees.
With the heat,... many of you will be preparing your air conditioner for the summer.
Before that, be sure to replace the air filter Dirty filters are the main cause of air conditioning
breakdowns and they make your energy costs go up about five percent.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the international weather for viewers around the
world.
While summery weather is in store for South Korea, North Korea will have sun and rain
depending on where you are.
As for major cities in Asia, Manila and Bangkok will have another day with an unstable weather
conditions, with highs of 34 and 30 degrees respectively.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur will also see thunder and lightning at times with a high of 25 degrees.
Heading to North America, Chicago, Washington DC and LA will be mostly sunny.
As for South America, the capital of Argentina will be sunny and mild with a high of 15 degrees.
Taking you to Europe, Paris, Madrid and Rome will have bright skies to start the new week.
Lastly to Africa, a rainy Monday is in store for Dakar with a high of 28 degrees.
That's all the weather update for now.

Small Bookstores Are Making a Comeback - Duration: 5:29.
Once overshadowed by the rise of mega book chains and online bookstores, small bookstores
are making a comeback with a strong sense of identity and warmth that big businesses
don't possess.
What made them survive a David and Goliath style battle against chain bookstores?
This store is located in a trendy neighborhood in Seoul that is popular with young people.
At a glance, the place looks like any other cafe.
But the walls are covered with bookshelves full of interesting reads.
At this bookstore, visitors need to first purchase a book to sit down and read it.
They can also buy coffee or beverages to enjoy while reading.
"I like that I can buy and read a book I want and enjoy beverages at the same time."This
is another bookstore located at the heart of the Gangnam area, Seoul.
Friday night at 10 p.m. is when most bookstores close.
But here, it is when the fun starts.
"I saw a post on BOOKTIQUE's social media account about the "Midnight Bookstore" program
on Fridays.
I came with my boyfriend to stay up all night reading."
The "Midnight Bookstore" program runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning.
At a 10 U.S. dollar admission, visitors can pull an all-nighter reading books in peace
and quiet.
They can also help themselves with soft drinks and beer.
"There are many office workers in the Gangnam area.
They deserve a break after a busy week of overtime work and company dinner.
We wanted them to indulge in books instead of alcohol on Friday nights."The bookstore
has been trending on social media as a must visit in the Gangnam district, where small
bookstores have become a rarity.
In addition to selling books, the store hosts book readings, reviews and discussions.
"The selection of books is important, but we are focusing more on the readers, the people.
We have the space to coordinate different activities to help them create a community
and involve non-readers."
Following the advent of online bookstores offering generous discounts and the decline
of the publishing industry in the 2000s, brick and mortar bookstores have been disappearing.
The number of bookstores in Korea plummeted from about 5,500 in 1995 to 1,500 in 2015.
Small bookstores were the hardest hit.
The share of small bookstores operating on less than 66 square meters fell from 51.9%
in 2005 to 32.4% in 2015.
What small bookstores needed the most was a unique sense of identity that would set
them apart from book chains."Small bookstores in the U.S. or Europe organize a "buy local"
campaign.
They attract customers with a specialized collection of books.
Above all, they focus on their role as community cultural centers to stay competitive."Small
bookstores are enjoying a revival, thanks to their warm and friendly atmosphere that
is often hard to find at mega book chains.
They serve as a community gathering spot for author events or book discussions.
Instead of focusing solely on bestsellers, these stores offer thoughtfully selected titles
that reflect the tastes and preferences of the owner.
Hidden in a dark alley in Seoul is a small independent bookstore owned by Kim Jong-hyeon.
The store sells both books and alcohol.
About 80 percent of the store's selection is titles published by small presses or individuals
like Kim himself.
The remaining 20 percent is books that Kim wants to recommend to potential readers.
There are no bestsellers in sight, but the cosy bookstore has created an intimate community
for neighbors who share the same interests as the owner.
The long table in the middle of the store is a symbol of this place.
"People who come here share similar tastes, so I like interacting with them in events
organized here like movie screenings or book discussions.
I like how this place has something that you can't find elsewhere."Kim's store is among
the growing number of independent bookstores that offer rare titles and a themed collection
of books.
Their number has doubled in the past two years.
Some believe these stores could bring a renaissance of small mom-and-pop bookstores.
"For the latest independent bookstore boom to take root as a culture, we need the places
that sell independent publications and where readers can interact with one another.
This could create consumers and content producers.
This virtuous cycle can help lay the foundation.
Independent bookstores are springing up, but I don't see them as competition.
It's a great sign that we can start a culture."Small bookstores have transformed into a cultural
space with personality.
It would be interesting to watch if they can provide just the boost that the publishing
industry needs.

Park Geun-hye's third trial hearing starts, witness testimonies held for first time - Duration: 1:02.
The third hearing began this morning in the trial of former president Park Geun-hye for
bribery, abuse of power and other charges.
Park's bribery case has been merged with that of her alleged accomplice, Choi Soon-sil,
who is also in the dock today.
A number of witnesses are set to testify in today's hearing related to the controversial
merger of two Samsung affiliates in 2015,... which was allegedly approved in exchange for
bribes paid to Choi.
One key witness is Chu Jin-hyung, the former chief of Hanwha Investment & Securities, who
was fired for opposing the merger.
The judges will question Chu about whether there was pressure from the top office or
from former President Park herself.
Starting this week, judges will hear witness testimony about the joint bribery case every
Monday and Tuesday, and then... at least one more weekday they'll deal with other charges
related to the corruption scandal.

Japan set to launch GPS satellites featuring top protection from N.Korea's signal disruption - Duration: 0:49.
Japan is set put three more satellites into orbit for its new homegrown GPS system...
and they come with defenses against North Korean meddling.
The Japanese daily Sankei Shimbun reports that the Michibiki satellite Number Two, set
to launch next month, is equipped with technology to protect it from attempts by North Korea
to use signals to jam it.
The system will serve as a complement to the existing global positioning system operated
by the United States.
Michibiki satellites Three and Four will be launched later this year.
Japan plans to use the technology for a wide range of purposes including smartphone applications
and navigation systems during the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo.

Back to Karelia UAS! - Duration: 12:18.
I had to get my tripod from our office because people want to record our soccer match.
Match is starting in 30 minutes. We can analyze the tapes later.
This time in Lehmo.
This place has changed a lot in 10 years.
Today it happened.
It's +17C outside!
It was warm enough to wear a t-shirt
Though this was noted by wearing a jacket and noting that it was really hot.
Machine rolling in the background. My room is my temple.
So it's also really cool.
Installing AC was a good call. I'm enjoying this.
Portable ad parked.
This time I'm at Science Park
Today we're meeting with Firetail Games about cooperation with us and Josna.
I noticed when I was driving by that there's Kim and he's the man we're meeting with today.
Now that the sun is out one can almost survive without a jacket. It's really getting hot in here.
Now it's time for meetings so I'll dive inside Science Park.
Message to people who park your cars to other peoples spots: Don't do that. It's not nice.
It's not easy to get back to the office when there are cars around that aren't supposed to be there.
I still survived and now I'm on my way to a meeting with other IT company bosses.
We discuss in cooperation with school that what kind of coders are needed by local IT companies.
It's important for the school to know what kind of stuff is happening locally so they can educate people the right way.
University of Applied Sciences and Universities IT teaching is going through a transformation. I'll hear more about it today.
After a long break I'm back at Karelia University of Applied Sciences.
It's nice to hear that teachers are willing to better themselves and the courses they're teaching.
Next group of IT bachelors will have interesting school experience ahead.
I'm hoping that we'll have more say about what is being taught in the future.
Go Karelia UAS, Go University of Eastern Finland. Go PKKY, Go everyone.
Back at the office and Koodersland is empty.
Our summerDeveloper Oona has her first day wrapped up.
This time I'm actually tired. I've been drinking a lot of coffee but it has no effect so far.
This stuff we had at the table in the back is now here.
But now we have a cabinet!
The plan is to put that AC unit to this small table.
It'll give us nice cold air. Today was first day at the office when it was kind of warm.
Currently it's at +17C. Maybe even more with the sun and all.
My first plan is to get the stuff from the table to the cabinet.
We could have tables open. There's stuff under the table too.
Here we have all kinds of accessories. Mousepads, headphones etc.
Here we have some power- and screen cables. Also some docs for PCs and hard drives.
There are the extension cords.
If we can get all this to the cabinet. That would be neat.
If we can fit all this we're solid.
This is the operation I'm starting now. After this I'm gonna be so tired...
Volume up!
I'm making progress.
Fan is going to the closet because we have AC now.
These are here if I need to bundle cables. I also found my first name tag.
Maybe I should grow hair again.
There's even some logic behind this.
Bottom shelf for stuff I never need but still won't throw away.
There's hardware.
I'll also have to get some extra hardware from my old desk.
Everything that's needed for working with hardware.
Name tags, camera stuff... misc?
There's a Cubeor case I'm supposed to make a review on. Maybe this week.
AC unit fits here like a glove.
It's still not perfect but it's way better than before.
So much stuff..
Some graphics cards in case we get a PC and it doesn't have one.
Hard drives for the same reason.
It's also kinda ok hardware. 670, couple of 760's. You can do stuff with those if needed.
Now I think I'll wrap up and go home.
It's funny how empty it is here during Ascension Day.
Naturally no one is working during a holiday. I almost missed it because today we have our third game.
The game is starting at 4pm which felt like an unreasonable starting time for a soccer game.
It made more sense when I noticed the holiday.
So then I thought that this is just plain discrimination againts entrepreneurs.
Since I completely missed the holiday.
I work these holidays because I like what I do and it's so calm because no one is calling me today.
I came in today at 10:30am so a shorted day.
I'm also leaving early since it's soccer time at 4pm.
Such discrimination againts entrepreneurs but I'll allow it.
It's Friday! So were doing some gaming in the office.
Now the gaming session is done.
It's almost 9pm and something unexpected happened.
Everyone else was on full on gaming mode and it was me who started to think that I need to let these people go on and have their normal weekend.
We played in there for 2,5 hours and -
it worked well and we had fun. We played Magicka and I'm not sure if we need to try to find a more chill game.
If you have great suggestions for couch co-op games hit me up on social media or in the comments.
Magicka is a good option. Castle Crashers would be great but I've personally played it a lot.
So maybe not that but some good couch co-op ideas are welcome.
But this is important!
Like so.
Updating my graphics card drivers. Shutting down the office. Weekend. This was a great week!

10 Overheard Stories Proving That Doing Good Is Easy
10 Overheard Stories Proving That Doing Good Is Easy.
We at Bright Side are sure that good deeds don't require high cost or much effort. Doing good is much easier than it seems. These 10 overheard stories are the best proof. Be careful! You may get an overwhelming desire to do something good after reading.
I'm not on very good terms with my colleagues. It happened so that all of my husband's salary was stolen. A few days later I told one woman about it. In a couple of hours I was handed an envelope with money inside.
They chipped in so that we could have enough to live on that month. My friend went to a movie theatre with her little son. On their way, the kid collected all the flyers that promoter girls distributed. He approached them himself, as if it was vitally important for him.
"Darling, why do you need all these flyers? What will you do with them?" she asked. The child said, "I won't do anything with them, Mommy. These girls just look so sad. No one takes their flyers.
I make them a little HAPPIER. I'm 18 years old. Winter. I hurried to get home and took a parked cab. When I got in the front seat, two guys hopped in the back.
They asked me where I was going and said they had to get there too. I didn't have much money, so it seemed like good luck to me. When we arrived, I was about to get out of the car. Suddenly the driver grabbed my arm.
The guys got out, and we drove off. But we drove a circle and came back. The guys had already left. The driver didn't like their faces.
Every day in the morning, when going to work, I buy a coffee to go in a coffee shop nearby. Recently, I've chosen a new route, and now I meet an old man in war decorations playing the accordion and singing war songs.
Now I don't drink coffee in the mornings. Instead, I give the money to him, and he gives me a lollipop from his candy bag.
Recently, when I approached, he stopped playing, put a chocolate candy in my hand, and said, "It's a magic one. Think well about the wish you make." I made my wish. Waiting. I know it will come true.
I was traveling in a cab late at night. Suddenly, the driver stopped on the road and got out of the car. I was scared, but then I saw two hedgehogs in front of us. He got out of the car to take them off the road! It melted my heart.
I love it when people do their work with pleasure, no matter what it is. Sometimes, when it's cold and nasty outside, you approach a coffee booth.
The guys there smile sincerely, sprinkle your coffee with lots of grated chocolate, and say, "Be careful, it's hot! Have a nice day! Or you buy water at a gas station, and a cashier screams to the attendant, "Come over here! Help the girl carry these heavy bottles to the car." And they smile and help you and wish you a good ride.
It fills your heart with such warmth.
I went to the store to buy some bread. While I was standing in line, a boy with a broken nose ran in and asked for help.
As it turned out, several people attacked him, took his cell phone, and started beating him. I was pleasantly surprised by the workers' reactions: all the men immediately left the store and their work, gathered at the entrance, and security stood at the door.
The women called the police and helped the boy to wash his face. They gave him water and a cell phone to call his parents. A number of customers volunteered to act as witnesses at once. A few days ago I took a bus.
A young man of about 20-25 entered it. He took a seat and started untangling his headphones with a broken arm. He was trying to do it before the next bus stop. Then, 2 minutes before I had to go, when the bus stopped at a red light, I approached him and helped.
While I was untangling them, the young man was smiling. When I got out of the bus, my knees were shaking. It was the first time I dared to help someone.
Once I took a bus and noticed an old lady, barely alive, almost sliding down the seat. The passengers started asking what happened, but she couldn't even form a sentence.
So all the passengers got out of the bus, and the driver and I immediately decided to take the old lady to the hospital. I started trying to find out the phone numbers of her relatives, and she said she only had a husband who had recently had a stroke.
While we were riding, I was holding her so she didn't fall down, and she was holding her purse tightly. When we got to the hospital, the doctors said it was a stroke. So the driver and I saved her life. One day I saved two lives.
I was going to school, looking through the bus window. It was +1 outside, and the day before it was −9.
In the middle of a frozen lake I noticed two men getting ready for fishing. Knowing the temperature, I imagined how it might melt, and I called a friend who worked in the rescue service with a request to send a squad to the specified location.
The next morning, I saw a 14-year-old girl and her mother on my doorstep, thanking me for saving their father's and brother's lives. It turned out that the rescue squad arrived just when the fishermen began to drown. Based on materials from Overheard.
