Let Go Of The Old World And Step Into The New From A 5D Perspective

I want to tell you a story that affects us all, and is a road map to the higher realms,
and what is called Ascension.
My name is Fred, and in the late 1970�s I had a relationship with a girl that was
magical yet was also tumultuous and chaotic at times.
The energies back then were thick and dark, not like they are now in the 21st century
where �Believing is Seeing� is understood, and not thought of as crazy.
Her name was Sheryl and she �passed� in 1981, yet began to reawaken me from the other
side of the veil in 2012 so we could fulfill our mission.
I was told that she incarnated only to make contact with me, and so we would reunite over
30 years later, and use our love to build a bridge between the 5th and the 3rd dimensions.
Which is exactly what we have done.
She is not only my twin flame, yet my mentor also.
She has taught me many things (hence, why all my articles say �from a 5d perspective�),
and as I have raised my vibration with her guidance, I have brought many other mentors
that I speak to daily now, into my life.
I now can speak to animals, tree�s (all flora), Gaia/Mother Earth, all the ascended
masters and more.
The full story is on my website, you�ll notice I call her Lucina now.
Well as your vibrations go up, you begin to remember things and that is her soul name,
and one I have called her for thousands of years.
Realize we are not learning anything new, just being coached to remember what was already
known.
I have been taught much over the years, and all must realize we need to go to them, as
they cannot come to us, so vibrations are the key.
They are right in front of us, yet our convictions (from our beliefs) and our vibrations keep
us from them.
Since the dawn of civilization we have had to die to Ascend to the higher realms.
Well that is just not the case any longer.
Our bodies are being changed from carbon based (to live here in the dense energies), to Crystalline
(to accept the light, and the higher energies).
The extent of our discomfort during this change is purely individual.
We have all heard about the Ascension symptoms, and while many are inevitable, the length
of time we have them and their severity is not and definitely on a case by case basis.
Many are in self-destruct mode now, because they insist of staying with the old, and just
refuse to let go, and step into the new, only making it harder on themselves.
Our bodies have been pre-programmed for this time, and know exactly what to do.
If you need sleep, then sleep.
Nap if need be.
Your body wants food�eat.
Doesn�t want food, don�t eat.
Just because it is lunch or dinnertime, doesn�t mean you need to eat.
Food will become nauseating at one point.
I myself go for days now without eating.
We are light beings after all, and I look at the Sun as a source of food now.
Solid food is the cause for all disease, and aging.
Now �not eating� is not the answer either, because we must maintain these vehicles/bodies
we are in here, in 3d.
So I will post below a short 6 step list on raising your vibrations and explain there
what to do.
Yet if you want things in your life to change, then you are going to have to change things
in your life.
It is that simple!
You cannot say well that is my favorite food, or TV show, and I refuse to give it up.
This is unwillingness to step out of out of our comfort zones, will lead us to that self-destruction
mode I mentioned.
I have posted the list below before, yet raising your vibrations is the key, and once you begin
to, you�ll see why this is so important.
It is the simplest of things that work the best.
It is only here in the 3rd Dimension, that we were taught (and purposely), that achieving
anything meant hard work.
This is why people refuse to step out of their comfort zones.
They have the belief, that change means HARD WORK.
That couldn�t be further from the truth, we are unlimited beings, and we only BELIEVE
we are limited.
Believing is seeing and not the other way around.
Just believe all is possible and it will be.
Just put your positive thoughts out there, and let the Universe bring them to you.
Stop forcing things, �Go With The Flow�, and allow.
Checklist for raising your vibration
1) Meditate (quiet time).
Best time 2am � 4am.
Can start for 15 minutes at first though.
EX: You normally get up at 7am.
Get up 20 minutes early, and arrange your spot then meditate for 15 minutes.
Use the same spot all the time, as your energies get anchored there.
Make it YOURS.
Crystals, feathers, candle, incense� whatever works.
This is your spot�make it special for you.
As you meditate all the things you need to do, will come up.
This is just your EGO mind fighting what you are doing, because it knows once you activate
your heart-mind (when the chatter goes away), you will not need it any longer.
So keep pushing the chatter to the side, and when it stays there (this could take days,
weeks) it is then you activate your heart-mind.
Then a whole other world�the real one opens up for you.
2) Shake.
Eliminate breakfast.
Have a green drink, or I have a combination green and chocolate drink (with whole foods)
every morning.
Look at my site in the detox section for instructions.
As you slowly remove solid food from your diet, you will notice your vibration goes
higher.
Solid food, causes a depletion of energy, and is the cause behind aging.
Remember though we still have to maintain our bodies, so going without food is not the
answer.
This is why the word �die� is in �dieting�.
The shakes should give you all the nutrients your body needs, follow the labels closely.
As you move forward in time, you may add more shakes and eat less food.
Keep fruit or berries around to snack on.
Try to avoid animal products at all costs.
This is a major drain on our systems.
Thousands of years ago, our DNA was spliced with that of animals.
Think of the hieroglyphs in Ancient Egypt; that depict animal heads on human bodies.
So in essence every time we eat meat we are performing cannibalism, and it throws our
energy off, at a soul level.
As your vibration rises, you will sense this, and the thought of meat will make you sick.
I look at a steak now, and only see the leg of a cow.
Moderation on all things though.
Never deprive yourself.
So slow down your consumption, a little at a time.
Forget what we have been told, about anything�even nutrition.
I was told by a higher being, �Get rid of all your beliefs they are all lies anyway�.
3) No Coffee.
Coffee is a definite no-no.
It seriously disconnects you from the higher realms.
When I have coffee, which I do have occasionally.
My Twin who is within me 24/7, sounds like she is suddenly on the other side of the room,
or house.
Plus, I lose all contact with my other mentors until my body assimilates it.
It is the same with alcohol.
So keep both to a minimum.
4) GET SUN!!!
This is super important.
It can mean going out and walking in it, sitting on a park bench and letting it enter your
body.
Gazing at it thru a window (this protects the pupils).
When outside try not to use sunglasses.
This blocks the rays that enter in thru your pupils and feeds your soul and pineal gland
(we are light beings, after all), waking up your 3rd eye.
The 3rd eye is your ticket to seeing the higher realms.
Where most see just air now with empty space, I see much activity.
They occupy the same space as we do, just on another level of existence.
Try limiting the use of the sun visor in your car.
FEEL the energy, as it enters your body.
Soon you will come to love the Sun.
5) Drink pure water.
This is important also, as our bodies are made up of over 70% water.
Yet it must be pure and not in or from plastic (plastic is toxic), and you must Alkaline.
Google Alkaline water, and find it in your area.
I drink a gallon to 1 � a day.
You can Alkaline your body in other ways also�again Google it.
Think of a yucky green swimming pool.
You add chemicals to balance the PH, which in turn cleans the water.
Well our bodies are the same on the inside, you just don�t see it.
They are yucky green, and the Alkalinity balances the PH.
Balanced means no sickness or disease, EVER.
Don�t you want a crystal clear and clean body operating on the inside?
Like a beautiful pool you just cannot wait to dive in!
6) Get the detox services I list in the �Tips for detoxing� on my website.
Again google it, and find in your area where you can get them.
We have picked up much debris in our travels here in 3d.
Yet we MUST remove them to raise our vibrations to enter the higher realms.
We just cannot go there with them�our bodies are just too dense.
We need to lighten up, to raise up.
This is good for now, stick with it and above all NOTICE the little changes.
Again this will raise your vibration, and one more thing.
Get out into nature more.

I want to tell you a quick story; Last year, Lucina and I were out walking (I can feel
her hand in mine now) and she says to me �Fred look up, there is something I want to show
you�.
I did and she said �okay, tell me what you see�?
I said �the beautiful blue sky, and white puffy clouds�, it is like Gaia/Earth is
smiling, because she knows the years of abuse like drilling and explosions is finally coming
to an end.
She said �okay now look to your right�.
There I saw a dark gray sky, with dirty clouds�maybe like I would have seen years ago, before I
raised my vibration.
So I said to her �okay, what�s the point�?
See she is teaching me new concepts all the time.
So she says �It is not that your pollution is so bad, it is don�t get me wrong, yet
it is more your vibration that has been lowered over the years that has clouded your vision.
You don�t see what is right before your eyes� Get it?
I can see a ship right in front of me, and in broad daylight, yet the person next to
me cannot.
This is what I mean, and what she was explaining.
See the beauty of the world right in front of your eyes, and step into it!

Anyway let's get started!
Hello -- today I'll be teaching signs for
different English words where the
English word is the same but the concept
and the meaning and the sign are
different. In English, it's called a
homophone, and a homophone means that it
sounds the same, it's spoken the same,
maybe it's spelled the same, but the
actual concept -- the meaning of the word
is what's different. And so in ASL the
sign is different!
This is video part 2. In last video I
showed 10 different English words - how
they're spelled and then many different
signs for the many concepts, and today
I'm going to show a new set of 10
different words! Thank you all for
sending me the list that you guys sent me.
So, Number 1 is the English word "show".
That has many different meanings:
There's show like this: SHOW, and that's
like maybe acting, a play, maybe music...
something where you're standing up in a
show, in a play, in a performance. "SHOW".
Then there's also "show" for to show
someone something. So, "EXAMPLE" is a
similar sign to "SHOW", meaning I have
something, or maybe I am teaching
something -- I will SHOW you. SHOW. And that
sign "SHOW" depends on who is showing
whom what, and the sign might change
depending on that. If you're showing me
something, it's signed like this. I'm
showing you, it goes toward YOU. You're
showing someone else something, goes that way. to show many people, make an arc.
And that's SHOW, and SHOW. Number 2...
OUR (O-U-R), and HOUR (H-O-U-R).
O-U-R are means *our* - it's something that
belongs to us. So that's the possessive
hand shape for ownership.
That's "OUR". The other is about time: H-o-u-r...
1-hour, like the hand going
around the clock: one hour or it's also signed
like this, or like this. I've seen
different signs. So it's like the clock
hands moving around. So OUR possessive, and
HOUR time. Number 3 is the English
word "free" - has maybe three maybe more
meanings. So the first is about money:
Something that has no cost, and then I
tend to see it signed like this with the "F"
handshape: FREE. FREE like this means cost nothing.
Zero dollars. FREE. A second sign is "FREE"
like this -- it means not enslaved; to be
freed -- it's similar to the sign rescue, or
save someone. So that's FREE with closed
fist.
so 'not in chains' -- FREE. Number three:
AVAILABLE. That's the "open 8" handshape.
AVAILABLE means you're not busy; you
don't have any appointments. It means you
looked at your schedule, and you're
available or FREE! Let's move on to
number 4 - has four different versions.
BUY - "buy" is about money. If you're out
shopping, you see something you want, and
BUY it. BUY. A "flat O" handshape goes out like that.
BUY. To BUY something. The second one also
"B-U-Y" but has a different meaning and it
means something -- someone tells me
something, or describes something,
explains it,
maybe shows me something, and I BELIEVE
it or I ACCEPT it. So maybe use the sign
BELIEVE or ACCEPT to describe "Oh, I'll buy that."
Right? "I buy it" or "I'd buy *into* something"
and I believe it; I accept it.
so use those signs.
Number 3: "BI" meaning you like
both men and women; not limited.
That would be "BI" - and tend to fingerspell
it out: B-I, very short. So, understand
that that topic has many, many different
signs that are still new and changing, so
people might like or not like different
signs. Online, people I've seen discussing
and they seem to say: accept B.
It's simple and clear: B-I for "bi", and
Fourth is "B-Y-E" - so you probably know that
already, where you can wave or "see you
later" - Sign "SEE-YOU LATER".
So again: BUY as in money is signed like
this. To "buy" an idea is you can sign
BELIEVE or ACCEPT to show that you buy
into it. Number 3 "BI", and number 4 is just
to wave goodbye.
Number 5: "Pine" has two different meanings.
So one is like a tree, and the second is
meaning you really really want something.
So for a tree you can find tree and then
you fingerspell to describe "PINE", and
second to "pine" for something--like really
want it--you can sign those things right?
and your facial expression should show
how much you want -- really want something,
or really really want it or DESIRE
something, WANT something. Number 6...
The word "TAKE" has three different things: First literally TAKE something -- to take
it physically. So I want something and I
take it. And that can be directional to
show where it came from.
Number two is similar, but you're not
*physically* taking something; it's
conceptual, and that would be signed like
this: "to take". It's really like to "take up" something, so maybe a class, for example.
You can take a class -- to TAKE. Number three...
Really, I actually just thought of a fourth.
So here we go: Number three:
Me saying "my take on" something -- means my
PERSPECTIVE, or my UNDERSTANDING. So that's, you know, "my take on that".
It's not that you're physically taking something, but
it's your UNDERSTANDING or your
PERSPECTIVE on something. So I would
sign "UNDERSTANDING", I think is a better
sign -- my understanding. And fourth, tends to
actually be "takes" (with an 's'), which means REQUIRED.
For example, maybe a job requires
strength, or "takes" wisdom, it "takes"
patience... Right? So "it takes" = it REQUIRES
something. So again: TAKE physically, TAKE-UP
conceptually, my UNDERSTANDING / my take on
something, and a REQUIREMENT.
Number seven...
the word CHANGE could be like this --
things that change. And that sign tends
to also change as well depending on the
context: change, clothes change, so change.
And another meaning is coins -- right? Money.
CHANGE -- so not dollars but small coins --
CHANGE. change or change.
Number 8: Each "H-A-V-E" -- "HAVE"-- like
HAVE a dog, HAVE shoes, HAVE anything that
you have, versus "HAVE TO" means must: MUST.
MUST -- so I MUST, is to say "I have to go to the store."
Or I MUST cook dinner, MUST. So HAVE vs. HAVE-TO.
So HAVE, "have to" -- use the sign MUST.
Number 9's three: T-E-A is "tea" the beverage.
Hot water -- TEA. Number 2: "T-E-E" like a shirt
like a "Tee" -- T-shirt. So I've seen it like
"T-shirt", um.. you
can also better describe it:
"Shirt, short sleeve." = T-shirt. In general -- for
shirts you can show the length like that.
so: SHIRT SHORT-SLEEVE. And Number 3 the
letter "T" - like that. "T". So that was again:
TEA the beverage, T-SHIRT, and the letter T.
Number 10: the word COOL, C-O-O-L, so
there's like COOL, this is the sign related to temperature,
so maybe there's a nice breeze, so it's not
quite cold but it's cool: COOL.
Is different from COOL- something that's, you
know, "cool", "neat", this is also used for
COOL, sometimes... so describe something you like, is COOL.
This is the temperature, and
that's just something that's cool or
interesting. And that's it for today!
I hope that those 10 signs, well really
probably 20 or 30 signs!

and ASL, helps you focus on the *concept* as

is I'm the managing director of Pine Design Truss and Timber.
I looked at my jobactive provider
and I spoke to one of the local ones in town
and, uh...and just asked the question,
you know, "How would I go if I wanted to employ 20 people
"or potentially up to 40 or 50 people?"
They knew what we were after.
They selected the right type of guys
who were happy to get down and dirty, work on a dusty day,
but they also then coordinated with the local TAFE
to put them through a basic intro on safe carpentry tools.
The challenges we face when we're filling vacancies,
particularly at this site,
is that we've got a reasonably small pool of people here
in a town of 5,000 people.
But the guys that are chomping at the bit,
they're the ones that I'm after.
They need to be enthusiastic. They're thirsty.
They know it's probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to get something in their own town
where they can walk to work or ride a bike to work.
If I employ somebody who has been out of work for two or three years,
the bonus is I can see a grin on their face
and I can help feed a family in this local community.
We've had two or three births within the families of the workers
and that just sort of is encouraging to know
that we can help look after them as a family.
You really want to sit down in front of a jobactive provider,
give them my needs verbally
and walk away until I get presented with a short list.
I go to one person, they give me the right answers,
they do the vetting, they do the testing,
they coordinate everything with us
and they couldn't be any more helpful.
So I would recommend it to anybody.
There's definitely a desire to succeed from the jobactive boys.

world to get there everybody is
different everyone has a story and
there's a way you can assist help the
individual to get through their issues
but once you've conquered down little
brick wall you view you're over it and
you're at you're on your way to success

likes to work once you've been given the

S. Korea's defense ministry offers latest take on N. Korea's missile test - Duration: 2:38.
North Korea's state media claims the recent test launch of a mid-range ballistic missile
was so successful that it's already ready for mass-production.
Experts in South Korea however, have a different assessment.
They doubt the missiles would even be able to re-enter the atmosphere... let alone detonate
a warhead after doing so.
Kim Jung-soo reports.
North Korean state media has hailed Sunday's missile launch as a great success... and confirmed
that the projectile was a medium-range ballistic missile of a type called the Pukguksong-2
, a land-based version of the submarine-launched ballistic missile Pukguksong-1.
It also said Kim Jong-un has authorized the missiles to be mass produced for actual deployment.
Sunday's missile was launched from an area north of Pyongyang and flew some 500 kilometers
before falling into the East Sea.
By comparison, the Hwasong-12 missile test-fired a week earlier flew some 700 kilometers.
Experts say, if launched at the optimal angle,... the Pukguksung-2 has a range of up to 2-thousand
kilometers, while the Hwasong-12 can fly 45-hundred kilometers -- over twice as far.
This means the Pukguksong-2 cannot reach the U.S mainland.
But it shouldn't be underestimated.
The Pukguksong-2 uses solid fuel, unlike the longer-range Hwasong-12 which uses liquid
and needs a separate fueling process.
It can be fired almost immediately even after bring stored away for long periods of time,
and is much harder to detect.
Meanwhile, the Korean Central News Agency is adding photographic evidence to its boasting:
on Monday, the agency released pictures of Earth taken in flight by a special camera
attached to the Pukguksong-2.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff confirmed on Monday that the latest Pukgusong-2 is indeed
a medium-range ballistic missile.
But like what happened after the test-firing of the Hwaseong 12, officials remain skeptical
about the durability of the missile's warhead.
The South Korea-U.S. alliance believes the latest test has the effect of boosting North
Korea's own confidence in its weapons systems, but we need further analysis regarding whether
the missile's warhead can successfully reenter the atmosphere.
Another question that's not yet clear is whether the U.S. anti-missile battery THAAD detected
the launch like it did for the Hwasong-12.
The ministry explained on Monday that for security reasons,... it will only disclose
whether launches are detected by other systems such as Seoul's Greenpine radar.

S'Korea seeks to increase civilian-level exchanges while going firm against N'Korea's provocations - Duration: 2:39.
The new South Korean government is looking to engage with North Korea,... despite the
regime's two missile tests in as many weeks.
The unification ministry says that, while Seoul will maintain a tough stance against
provocations,... it will seek opportunities to boost civilian-level exchanges.
Lee Ji-won reports.
President Moon Jae-in's policy of engagement seems to be getting into gear.
The unification ministry's spokesperson Lee Duk-haeng said at a regular press briefing
on Monday that the government will seek to boost civilian-level exchanges with Pyongyang,
while responding firmly to its provocations.
"We will continue to respond sternly against North Korea's missile tests and provocations.
But the long-strained relationship between the two Koreas is not right, especially when
we are trying to stabilize the Korean peninsula.
So, the government plans to review major issues between the two Korea with a degree of flexibility.
These will include civilian exchanges... to the extent that they do not violate international
sanctions."
The ministry could decide to allow a number of non-governmental organization to contact
the North and possibly let them visit as well.
During his campaign, President Moon Jae-in had promised a number of non-political inter-Korean
policies such as reopening the Kaesong Industrial Complex, which was shut down over a year ago
due to North Korea's continued provocations.
Moon had also vowed to establish media, social, cultural and sporting exchanges between the
two.
However, because economy-related engagement with the North could violate the UN Security
Council's resolution banning financial dealings with the North, many experts say President
Moon's civilian-level exchanges will be mainly focused on the humanitarian front.
"Despite all these problems created by North Korea, he may be eager to provide humanitarian
assistance for North Korea in huge amounts.
For example its spring, so they [N. Korea] need fertilizer, so for humanitarian purpose,
why don't we begin the supply of fertilizers to North Korea.
Then what about the medical equipments and medicine?
such as infant formula.
Those things can be seriously considered and also be accepted by the general public in
South Korea."
The previous Park Geun-hye administration officially cut off humanitarian assistance
to Pyongyang after it conducted its fourth nuclear test in January of 2016.

And they get misplaced.
A lot.
So I decided to go to the eye doctor and get fitted for contacts.
I didn't realize that they would give them to me today.
At the moment.
So that was amazing.
I just got them and I left.
First to go in, he like shines stuff in my eyes.
I don't know they're like making sure that my eyes are compatible with contacts.
Apparently some people are not compatible with contacts.
So your eyes to be dry, or your lenses could be you know a different shape or whatever.
He chose my prescription, he put them in and then he had me look at a couple different
lenses to see if something else would be sharper.
So I got actually prescription in a little bit higher.
They just take you back in the open them up and they're like OK.
Put them on.
And I'm like, in front of you?
So I'm like over there like blah blah blah blah blah.
But I had to learn to take them out first.
Because he takes them out.
And then, I put them in first try.
And he was like, no one gets it on the first try.
He said I even had a come back the next day because I could not figure it out.
If you didn't already know, Which I'm pretty sure I already told you.
I'm not a bird fan.
I don't like them.
I mean they're fine, at a distance.
They are beautiful, I can make noises and things.
Not only do I have one in my vent.

And I can hear every morning like scratching away.

Which I absolutely love.

More ice cream cones I think.
I have decided that one day I'm going to Master the ice cream cone.
And then this, is what I did yesterday.
I love it.
And I love it so much.

I'm so amazed.

Related rates - Man's shadow from a lamp post (Matheno.com) - Duration: 8:42.
Let's solve together our next related rates problem, this one that has one subtlety where
we need to be careful not to go wrong:
"A 1.8-meter tall man walks away from a 6.0-meter lamp post at the rate of 1.5 m/s.
The light at the top of the post casts a shadow in front of the man.
How fast is the 'head' of his shadow moving along the ground?"
We'll again use our 4 step problem solving strategy for related rates problems to tackle
this, since it works every time.
We first draw a picture:
We have the ground and a lamp post, and we'll put a lamp that's orange at the top of the
post.
Some of the light that leaves the lamp strikes the ground, thereby illuminating it.
When there's a man standing there, the light that hits his back doesn't reach the ground,
thus producing a shadow in front of him.
The shadow goes from his feet to a point that's determined by the line that passes from the
lamp along the top of his head, and then on to the ground.
Since we're really only interested in the shadow, let's focus on that, along with the
line that determines its length.
The man is 1.8 meters tall, and the lamp post is 6.0 meters tall.
Let's call the distance from the lamp post to the man x, and the distance from the lamp
post to the head of his shadow l ("ell").
We're making a choice here where you need to be careful, and almost no one talks about
this subtle point:
We're measuring everything using the lamp post as the origin, as if we've painted a
coordinate system on the ground.
This coordinate system DOESN'T move when the man walks, which is what we want.
By contrast, a common error is to draw your figure like this, and without really thinking
about it measure the position of the head of the shadow from where the man is standing.
That *seems* reasonable, but what you don't realize is that with this choice you've attached
the coordinate system to the man's feet.
Then when the man walks, the coordinate system moves with him, and so we're not measuring
how fast the head of his shadow moves along the fixed ground.
It'd be like carrying a ruler with you while you're measuring how fast the tip of your
shadow is moving, which you of course don't want to do.
So instead we measure everything from the fixed position of the lamp post.
Now with that choice , let's think about what the problem is telling us:
As the man walks, his x-position changes at the rate dx/dt, the rate at which x changes
with respect to time t.
We're looking for the rate at which the position of the shadow's head moves along the ground,
which is dl/dt, the rate at which l ("ell") changes with respect to time t.
Now clearly the faster the man walks, the faster the head of his shadow moves too --- that
is, the larger dl/dt is.
The rates dx/dt and dl/dt are thus *somehow* related; our job is to find that relationship.
Specifically, we're told that the man walks at 1.5 meters per second, which is the value
of dx/dt.
And we're looking for the corresponding value of dl/dt, the rate at which l ("ell") changes.
We need, then, to find the relation between dl/dt and dx/dt.
To find that, we back up a step, and first must find a relation between l ("ell") and
x.
And that takes us to the second step of our problem solving strategy: write an equation
that relates the quantities of interest, in this case between l ("ell") and x.
As you know if you've watched our other videos, in any related rates problem you'll use one
of four approaches to know to complete this step.
We cover each of them in the free materials on our website.
For this problem, to develop the equation we need we'll use similar triangles.
What makes us think of similar triangles?
In our figure, we see one small triangle embedded in another, bigger triangle, which is a Big
Clue that we'll use similar triangles in our solution.
Notice that here both the small triangle and the large triangle are right triangles.
Furthermore, the upper angles of the two triangles are equal, and the base angle is actually
identical in the two triangles.
Since all three angles in the two triangles are equal, the triangles are similar, and
so we can develop a relation among their lengths --- an approach you'll use often in solving
many related rates problems.
To do so, remember that the man's height is 1.8 m, which we'll add to our small triangle.
And the lamp post's height is 6.0 m, which which goes on the large triangle.
The base of the large triangle has length l ("ell"), while the small triangle has length
l ("ell") minus x.
With those quantities in place, we can remember that when you have similar triangles, the
ratio of their base lengths equals the ratio of their heights.
Here, the ratio of the base lengths is [l ("ell") minus x] divided by l ("ell"), which
equals the ratio of their heights, 1.8 meters divided by 6.0 meters.
Numerically that equals 0.30.
We can now solve for l ("ell") in terms of x with just a little algebra:
We first move l ("ell") from the denominator on the left over to the right, so we have
l ("ell") minus x equals 0.30*l ("ell").
Then collecting all of the l's on the left and moving x to the right, we have l ("ell")
minus 0.30 l ("ell") equals x, or 0.70*l ("ell") equals x.
And that's it: that's the relation we need between l ("ell") and x.
And so with that we're now done with the second step of our problem solving strategy, since
we have that relation.
And so we move on to step 3: take the derivative with respect to time of both sides of our
equation.
Starting with the left hand side, we have d/dt of 0.70*l, and that equals d/dt of x.
Now on the left, we can pull 0.70 out of the derivative, since that's a constant, and so
we have 0.70 times d/dt of l ("ell").
But that quantity IS the rate dl/dt, the quantity we're looking for.
Similarly, on the right hand side d/dt of x, IS the rate dx/dt, which equals 1.5 meters
per second, a substitution we'll make in a minute.
For now, this completes the third step of our strategy, because we now have the relation
between dl/dt and dx/dt that we need.
Our fourth and final step is to solve for the quantity we're after.
We want dl/dt, so let's divide both sides of the last equation by 0.70 to get dl/dt
equals 1 over 0.70 times dx/dt.
We know that dx/dt equals 1.5 m/s, and so we can make that substitution.
And numerically, 1 over 0.70 times 1.5 m/s is 2.1 m/s.
And that's it: our final answer is 2.1 m/s.
As you can see, the calculus in this problem is quite straightforward and just involves
taking some very simple derivatives to go from the relation we developed between l ("ell")
and x to the relation between their rates of change.
The challenging part for everyone just starting out is to practice enough problems, like the
ones we have on our website, to spot and then use similar triangles in a problem like this
one that calls for that approach, or to use a different approach as required.
