and of the Holy Spirit. - Amen.
- The Lord be with you. - And with your Spirit.
- My sisters and brothers, we come together
and celebrate this time with our God
who he encounters us now in word and sacrament.
So let us begin in celebration of these sacred mysteries
by calling to mind our sins
in God's faithfulness and God's mercy.
Lord Jesus in your love we become children of God.
Lord, have mercy. - Lord have mercy.
- Lord Jesus, by your blood,
we experience God's grace and forgiveness.
Christ, have mercy. - Christ, have mercy.
- [James] Lord Jesus, in the light of your wisdom,
we are sealed in the Holy Spirit.
Lord, have mercy. - Lord have mercy.
- May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins and bring us to life everlasting.
- [Audience] Amen.
- Glory to God in the highest.
- [Together] And on Earth, peace to people of goodwill.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you.
We glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.
Lord God, heavenly King, oh God, oh mighty Father,
Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son,
Lord God, lamb of God, son of the Father.
You take away of the sins of the world.
Have mercy on us.
You take away of the sins of the world.
Receive our prayer.
You are seated at the right hand of the Father.
Have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One.
You alone are the Lord.
You alone are the most tithe, Jesus Christ.
With the Holy Spirit in the glory of God, the father, amen.
- Let us pray.
Oh God, who show the light of your truth
to those who go astray so that they may return
to the right path, give all who for the faith
they profess our accounted Christians,
the grace to reject whatever
is contrary to the name of Christ and to strive after all
that doe it honor.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
- [Together] Amen.
- Our reading from the book of the Prophet Amos.
Amaziah, priest of Bethel,
said to Amos, "Off with you, visionary.
"Flee to the land of Judah.
"There, earn your bread by prophesying,
"but never again prophesy in Bethel
"for it is the King's sanctuary and a royal temple."
Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet,
"nor have I belong to a company of prophets.
"I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores.
"The Lord took me from following the flock
"and said to me, 'Go, prophecy to my people, Israel.'"
The word of the Lord.

Blessed be that God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

of the world to be holy without blemish before Him.
In love, He destined us for adoption,
to Himself through Jesus Christ

For the praise of the glory of God's grace
that He granted us in the beloved.
In Him, we have redemption by His blood.
The forgiveness of transgressions,
in accord with the riches of His grace
that He lavished upon us.
In our wisdom and insight,

- The Lord be with you.
- [Audience] And with your spirit.
- A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
- [Audience] Glory to you, O Lord.
- Jesus summoned the 12 and began to send them out
two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits.
He instructed them to take nothing
for the journey, but a walking stick.
No food, no sack, no money in their belts.
They were, however, to were sandals, but not a second tunic.
He said to them, wherever you enter a house,
stay there until you leave.
Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,
leave there and shake the dust off your feet
in testimony against them.
So they went off and preached repentance.
The 12 drove out many demons and they anointed with oil
many who were sick and cured them.
The Gospel of the Lord.
- [Audience] Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
- Jesus sent His apostles, the 12 out,
two by two and there's a couple reasons
for going two by two.
One of them was just for safety purposes,
that as they were going from one city to another,
and traveling in the long expanses of the desert area
and sometimes there would be gangs there
ready to pounce on people so if you had two people,
you're better at survival
than if you were just going by yourself.
Another thing was that the Jewish law said that
a judge could not find someone guilty
if there was only one witness, alright?
So the testimony of one witness was not sufficient
because somebody could use that for, against somebody
for some reason, for extortion, for whatever reasons,
you know that they would have,
that just one person would not be enough.
So if you had two, then you had testimony
that one could say something
and the other one could back it up.
So Jesus sent them out by two to proclaim
that the Kingdom of God is here.
Now remember, this was new to these people.
They're waiting for the coming of the Messiah
and they, you know, weren't able to recognize
Jesus as the Messiah so for Jesus to say
that the Kingdom of God is here and to have his Apostles
do that, it was better that two of them go
so that they could support each other's testimony.
And so they verified each other's testimony
and others would then accept them and accept
what they were saying as truth
'cause it just didn't come from one, but it came from two.
You know, Jesus says in Matthew's Gospel,
where two or three are gathered in my name,
I am there in their midst.
So even in sending out these two
disciples or these two apostles together,
it wasn't just the two of them, that Christ was with them
as well in that great mystery that we cannot understand
about His presence, that even though Jesus
was in the flesh at this time and He couldn't have been
with all of the two's here, there and there,
but He was with each one of them
'cause God never leaves us abandoned
and so even when we're praying and we're praying
by ourselves, alright, we're never alone.
Christ is always with us.
Those are always two.
So it's always important then for two by two
that we need each other and whether we gather together
in community, whether we're at home watching
this mass on television, we're united together
in the name of Jesus and though somebody
may be home alone watching this mass on television,
they're certainly not alone 'cause we're with them.
They're with us.
We're all united in God's love.
So today He, as He sends out His apostles then
to go out two by two,
He gave them authority to do good things
and for us, He gives us authority then,
you know that when we come and celebrate the Eucharist
that we're to leave here and do something
with what we received, to take this encounter with Christ
and let it have an affect out in the world
and then we can come back and strengthen one another
in this faith by the fact that we're here together,
just that in itself, Christ assured us
that He is in our midst.
So as we continue then on our faith journeys,
let us ask the Lord to continue
to watch over us and that there are times
that we are by ourselves to remember
even when we're by ourselves, we are never alone
because He is always by our side.
Together, let us profess our faith
using the Apostles' Creed.
- [Together] I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth and in Jesus Christ,
His only son and lord who was conceived
of the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day, he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and is seated
at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
