Remember how rich I was? It was back in the day, you know?
One week ago.
Hello everyone, I'm Ola Englund and welcome to my new FAQ video
If you are in the UK this coming Saturday, the 21st of July
I'm doing a guitar masterclass together with the amazing Sithu Aye, hosted by Focusrite at the ...
100 Club, Oxford Street, so it's really in the centre of town.
It's free admission as well, so you just click the link and register to show up
You can come hang with me, watch me play some guitars ...
And we'll just have a beer together and have a really good time, okay?
There's no real excuse either, because it's Saturday, it's really in the centre of town.
So, if you're saying that you're not coming, well f*** you then.
So, first question.
"Hey Ola, do you think adding some flowers to the channel would help bring more females?
"I heard women like flowers."
Oh shit, okay. Good idea.
Look at this.
Here we go, there's a flower for you.
Let's just put it here.
There you go.
"Morsning korsning Ola, do you say Stockholm, Steckhelm or Stöckhölm?"
I say 'Stockholm', like a ... you know, like a regular d***ing human being
"Hey Ola, what wireless guitar system do you use when playing live?"
"PS: Rumpadildo"
Okay ... I'm using the Line6 G30 relay and I have a G50 as well, but Jensen is currently borrowing that one.
And yeah, for me it works great. It's smaller, relatively cheape-
First Burp of the day.
I haven't burped the whole day, and now, when I'm recording the FAQ, it's like I feel full of burps.
Yeah, it's ok, it's not super reliable, but it works and it's cheap, cheap to replace parts ...
and it's ... yeah, it works. Line6 G30.
"I have a question: what kind of music program do you use to record your guitar playing?
"I use Audacity, but I was wondering what other programs are better for recording my music.
"I want to get back into the recording my own stuff, any tips?"
Nowadays it's not really about which program to use.
It's more about finding a workflow that suits you within these music apps
I mean, they're all really good right now
I mean, I'm using Logic Pro for Mac, by the way, but you know, Cubase, Pro Tools, Reaper, Cubase-
Did I say Cubase?
Well, all these apps are basically quality-wise the same
it's more about the workflow in the app and finding one that suits you
and then just stick with it, so you can concentrate on writing music
and not have a hindrance between you and the music app for recording songs
That's what's important to me. I've been using Logic Pro or Logic for almost 18 years now
"Hey Ola. I've been playing for a long time, almost 19 years
"But I've never really managed to tighten up my playing. I'm a pretty sloppy player.
"Do you have any tips or exercises that might help me and anyone else?"
The best tip I can give for this is just to record yourself
Like, find a drum track, you know, for a song that you're doing
and just record two tracks of guitars and make them as tight as possible
It's not as easy as it sounds to get two guitars tied together
but it's like with everything else, it's a practice process
just record yourself over and over and over and you'll become a lot tighter of a player, I promise
This is as bulletproof of a tip as it can be, okay?
"Hey Ola, I think you have one little hand and one bigger hand.
"Why do you have it this way? Maybe for guitars playing?"
No, they're equally big, I promise.
I think it's when I go out on the sides here
You know, when you have a fisheye lens, the hands become wider
that might be the problem that you're having
But no, the hands are equally big, I promise, there's no mystery behind my hands.
They work their magic
Okay? It's not ... What?
"Hey Ola, can you burp my name? It spells Fiodor"
Okay, I'm not gonna burp your name, but I'm gonna try and say your name and this is not easy
'help axocobkuhneh'
That was pretty good. 'Help axocobkuhneh'.
There's no 'Fiodor' in there, you just pulled my leg.
"Brola, will you mention my project LichKrieg?"
Ehm ... No.
"Ola do you own an acoustic guitar? If so, can you play us something?"
I do.
Okay, this is perfect, thank you for these awesome female-attracting questions, I like this.
So, this is how you become like the douchebag of the century right here, you just bring out the acoustic guitar
and as you can see, it's a new project I'm working on, the 'S-olla-r' acoustic guitar
but instead of Solar it is 'S' - 'Olla'
You know, when you put your penis against ... Yeah.
Yeah, this is my guitar, I like it.
I rarely play acoustic guitar, but I like to have it if I need to record something cool
Another reason why I have one is because I want to play the Tristram theme from the game Diablo ...
... Every once in a while
You know?
Yeah, that's it.
That reminds me: back in the day, when I didn't want to show my ugly face
I actually made a cover of that song. I'll link it up here and you can check it out.
It's actually pretty awesome, I put a lot of effort into that cover video. So, there you go.
Check it out, please. Support the young and not so beautiful Ola Englund, okay?
When, you know, when he didn't have a beard and he looked f***ing weird.
"Ola, I'm curious how you go about recording the final guitar takes for an album
"Do you do them right after you've finished each song or do you do the file takes for all songs right at the end?
"I'm asking because I often need to relearn my own songs if I don't do it straightaway
"which sometimes sucks and you lose the feeling/momentum. Thanks a lot."
This is an excellent question, because it depends
I mean, when I'm writing a song, sometimes, if I have like a really good vibe going when I'm writing a demo
I might as well keep those guitars and use them for the actual album
because it's the same with me, I forget about ...
Like, right after I record a song and I stop playing guitar and stop recording and I go to bed
Next day I totally forgot about the riffs and how to play them
So, it's the same for me, I have to relearn riffs to be able to record them properly
But sometimes, you know, the vibe when I was writing that song, was just so good ...
You know, you can't really replace that with re-recorded guitars
I just keep the guitars as they are. You know, it's more magical that way
Good question, I liked that.
My voice liked that too.
"Hey Ola, what's your favorite tuner? Pedal? Little squishy thing to but on the headstock? iPhone app?
"Greetings from Germany, keep it up."
Curi.
Well, that's a cool question.
And you know what? I don't have a favorite tuner, because I'm using the Evertune bridge all the time.
Yeah
I do have a tuner when I want to tune the guitar.
I use one of these ...
Where is it? Where is it?
Trying to find an app on my iPhone is like, you know, Batman
Where is it? Where is it?
I found it, I have something called Pocket Guitar. It's not actually a tuner, it's a small guitar like this, so I can ...
I can play chords and ...
Hah, new riff right there.
I have ...
And I like to ...
I like to tune ... rather than seeing something, I like to tune to another tone
So, you know, I play this tone, tune the guitar after that
Rather than using, you know, a pedal that tells me what it is
So yeah, I don't really use a tuner that much, it's basically this or whatever's on the ...
Swedish word of the day: 'Knullrufs'
Simple, easy, it's your hair after you f***ed.
Okay?
Simple as that. It could be like this ...
Or, you know, it could be ... I'm gonna try and make a knullrufs on me
There you go, that's a knullrufs for you. Swedish word of the day. Thank you so much
"Hey Ola, who won the Miku pedal a while back? Love you, dude"
You know what? I decided to keep the pedal, because ...
I might have found another opportunity to use it.
So yeah, stay tuned for that.
"Bonjour Ola you seem to have spent a lot of time on this FAQ
"What album do you recommend me to buy to discover your music?
"I'm your age I think, 37, and I usually buy CD and listen to them start to end for a couple of months
"Greetings from Montreal"
Wow, It's ... I don't know. I mean, when people ask me this question, it's not the first time I receive this question
I usually recommend the album that I think sounds the best and at this point, I think the album ...
The Feared album Vinter is a really good sounding album
And it's like ... it's a good package of what Feared is
So I would definitely check out Vinter but also the latest one, Svart
Also The Haunted's latest album Strength in Numbers is ... yeah, there's a lot of ... yeah.
That's my tip for you, if you want to get it.
Okay
"Who's that little dude (figure) in/on the shelf to the right of your right speaker?"
I think you're talking about this ... This is Evangelion unit-01
And he's my little friend
I'm a big fan of the anime series Evangelion
And this is the ... I would say the main character Shinji and his unit.
And then I also have this one, this is the unit number 3
Which is ... It went rogue in the series
Unfortunately, he lost a foot
So, it's supposed to go there, but yeah ...
So that's it. That's Evangelion. That's a little nerdery for you there. I'm a big fan.
"Hi Ola, is the rest of your room as 'titty' as what we see on your videos
"or is there a mess of cables and gear and stuff behind the camera?"
Well, as you can see, it's kind of nice and 'titty' here, I like to keep it clean
and the same with the rest of the room. It's ... yeah, it's ...
Yeah, I guess it's really not that clean.
But it's not too bad actually. This part of the floor is perfectly free of stuff. So yeah
It's ... it's fine. I'm fine. So yes.
"Hey yo Ola la
"Is Solar Guitars solar powered? if so, will it provide enough power to power your amps?"
Funny
Funny.
'Noitron', that was so funny.
Oh, people are just so funny.
"Greetings Ola, in your opinion, if bands need to-
No.
"If bands need to drop tune as low as drop E to sound brutal, shouldn't they have just written better riffs?
"Also, do you blow dry your penis before sex for added visual appeal?"
Well, if bands need to drop tune ... I do not like that argument
A lot of, you know, old-timers at least they say that ...
'Ugh, bands are just tuning down more and more these days'
And 'if you cannot make an E Standard tuning riff sound heavy and awesome
'You know, you're doing something wrong '
F*** that shit.
Just let people do whatever the f*** they want, okay?
If it needs to be a down-tuned guitar, let them be, okay?
You know, it's like ... what the hell?
People have so many things to complain about
I mean, just stop complaining, go about your own business. How hard can it be?
So, no. I mean, if people drop tune to E to sound brutal, I guess it's an octave below the standard E
I mean, who cares? If it sounds brutal and it appeals to some people, who the f*** cares?
You know, a lot of people just need to get laid.
Shit.
Stop caring about shit.
"Hey Ola, first time commenting/asking a question
"But I finally have one or two that I think haven't been answered a million times already lol"
"First question: you mentioned in a few previous videos about how your tone comes through your fingers
"Could you explain that a little better for me? What is finger tone?"
I think finger tone is basically ...
It's not really the tone in the fingers
it's more like how you attack the strings with your right hand
and how hard or loose you pick the strings with your fretting hand
So it's a combination of these two things and you call it basically 'finger tone'
I guess that the flesh matters a little bit, but I think it's more about how hard you push the strings ...
... combined with how you angle the pick, you know, when you play and stuff like that
and I'm angling my ...
Penis all the way up
No, I angle my pick backwards, like this
which gives me a very specific type of tone that is ...
You know, my way of picking has become my signature or, like, that's what makes my sound
it's a little scratcher than everyone else
And that's why, whenever you hear me demoing an amplifier, that shines through so well
So everyone just says that I sound the same for every amplifier. It's just my picking style and finger tone
And, you know, that's what shines through and then that's what you hear
"The last gadget I purchased, my wife slapped me and kept it for herself"
Oh, was it-
Gotcha
But you asked for it.
"Hi Ola. How and often do you clean your battle station?"
If you by battle station mean penis, I wash it once a day or every other day and
And ... What the f*** kind of question is this?
Get a grip, man.
Battle station ...
More like a BB gun.
"Hi Ola, it's coming home."
Okay, I'm getting a lot of these messages. It's coming home. Like, what is coming home?
The crabs?
"Hey Ola, do your wife pull your hair when you eat her? lol Keep up the quality content."
F*** you and your questions, man.
"Hey Ola Englund, what do you think about Parkway Drive?
"They've recently made the transition from metalcore to metal.
"as someone like yourself who's an all-out metal guitarist. Is that something you can appreciate?"
Okay
Parkway Drive, metalcore. Okay, let's try.
There it is.
Okay.
Yeah, okay, that's metalcore. That, I recognize. Let's listen to the new one.
Not too bad
Yeah, maybe I should listen to them.
Or not.
"Start having women as Solar artists and lots of females will start following the channel"
I tried really hard to find some female guitar players, but you know, Strandberg has already claimed them all
That slick bastard.
Oh, that was the last question. Thank you so much for watching.
I'm Ola Englund, and you're watching my youtube channel.
