What we'll learn about the brain in the next century | Sam Rodriques - Duration: 13:32.

I want to tell you guys something about neuroscience.

I'm a physicist by training.

About three years ago, I left physics

to come and try to understand how the brain works.

And this is what I found.

Lots of people are working on depression.

And that's really good,

depression is something that we really want to understand.

Here's how you do it:

you take a jar and you fill it up, about halfway, with water.

And then you take a mouse, and you put the mouse in the jar, OK?

And the mouse swims around for a little while

and then at some point, the mouse gets tired

and decides to stop swimming.

And when it stops swimming, that's depression.

OK?

And I'm from theoretical physics,

so I'm used to people making very sophisticated mathematical models

to precisely describe physical phenomena,

so when I saw that this is the model for depression,

I though to myself, "Oh my God, we have a lot of work to do."

(Laughter)

But this is a kind of general problem in neuroscience.

So for example, take emotion.

Lots of people want to understand emotion.

But you can't study emotion in mice or monkeys

because you can't ask them

how they're feeling or what they're experiencing.

So instead, people who want to understand emotion,

typically end up studying what's called motivated behavior,

which is code for "what the mouse does when it really, really wants cheese."

OK, I could go on and on.

I mean, the point is, the NIH spends about 5.5 billion dollars a year

on neuroscience research.

And yet there have been almost no significant improvements in outcomes

for patients with brain diseases in the past 40 years.

And I think a lot of that is basically due to the fact

that mice might be OK as a model for cancer or diabetes,

but the mouse brain is just not sophisticated enough

to reproduce human psychology or human brain disease.

OK?

So if the mouse models are so bad, why are we still using them?

Well, it basically boils down to this:

the brain is made up of neurons

which are these little cells that send electrical signals to each other.

If you want to understand how the brain works,

you have to be able to measure the electrical activity of these neurons.

But to do that, you have to get really close to the neurons

with some kind of electrical recording device or a microscope.

And so you can do that in mice and you can do it in monkeys,

because you can physically put things into their brain

but for some reason we still can't do that in humans, OK?

So instead, we've invented all these proxies.

So the most popular one is probably this,

functional MRI, fMRI,

which allows you to make these pretty pictures like this,

that show which parts of your brain light up

when you're engaged in different activities.

But this is a proxy.

You're not actually measuring neural activity here.

What you're doing is you're measuring, essentially,

like, blood flow in the brain.

Where there's more blood.

It's actually where there's more oxygen, but you get the idea, OK?

The other thing that you can do is you can do this --

electroencephalography -- you can put these electrodes on your head, OK?

And then you can measure your brain waves.

And here, you're actually measuring electrical activity.

But you're not measuring the activity of neurons.

You're measuring these electrical currents,

sloshing back and forth in your brain.

So the point is just that these technologies that we have

are really measuring the wrong thing.

Because, for most of the diseases that we want to understand --

like, Parkinson's is the classic example.

In Parkinson's, there's one particular kind of neuron deep in your brain

that is responsible for the disease,

and these technologies just don't have the resolution that you need

to get at that.

And so that's why we're still stuck with the animals.

Not that anyone wants to be studying depression

by putting mice into jars, right?

It's just that there's this pervasive sense that it's not possible

to look at the activity of neurons in healthy humans.

So here's what I want to do.

I want to take you into the future.

To have a look at one way in which I think it could potentially be possible.

And I want to preface this by saying, I don't have all the details.

So I'm just going to provide you with a kind of outline.

But we're going to go the year 2100.

Now what does the year 2100 look like?

Well, to start with, the climate is a bit warmer that what you're used to.

(Laughter)

And that robotic vacuum cleaner that you know and love

went through a few generations,

and the improvements were not always so good.

(Laughter)

It was not always for the better.

But actually, in the year 2100 most things are surprisingly recognizable.

It's just the brain is totally different.

For example, in the year 2100,

we understand the root causes of Alzheimer's.

So we can deliver targeted genetic therapies or drugs

to stop the degenerative process before it begins.

So how did we do it?

Well, there were essentially three steps.

The first step was that we had to figure out

some way to get electrical connections through the skull

so we could measure the electrical activity of neurons.

And not only that, it had to be easy and risk-free.

Something that basically anyone would be OK with,

like getting a piercing.

Because back in 2017,

the only way that we knew of to get through the skull

was to drill these holes the size of quarters.

You would never let someone do that to you.

So in the 2020s,

people began to experiment -- rather than drilling these gigantic holes,

drilling microscopic holes, no thicker than a piece of hair.

And the idea here was really for diagnosis --

there are lots of times in the diagnosis of brain disorders

when you would like to be able to look at the neural activity beneath the skull

and being able to drill these microscopic holes

would make that much easier for the patient.

In the end, it would be like getting a shot.

You just go in and you sit down

and there's a thing that comes down on your head,

and a momentary sting and then it's done,

and you can go back about your day.

So we're eventually able to do it

using lasers to drill the holes.

And with the lasers, it was fast and extremely reliable,

you couldn't even tell the holes were there,

any more than you could tell that one of your hairs was missing.

And I know it might sound crazy, using lasers to drill holes in your skull,

but back in 2017,

people were OK with surgeons shooting lasers into their eyes

for corrective surgery

So when you're already here, it's not that big of a step.

OK?

So the next step, that happened in the 2030s,

was that it's not just about getting through the skull.

To measure the activity of neurons,

you have to actually make it into the brain tissue itself.

And the risk, whenever you put something into the brain tissue,

is essentially that of stroke.

That you would hit a blood vessel and burst it,

and that causes a stroke.

So, by the mid 2030s, we had invented these flexible probes

that were capable of going around blood vessels,

rather than through them.

And thus, we could put huge batteries of these probes

into the brains of patients

and record from thousands of their neurons without any risk to them.

And what we discovered, sort of to our surprise,

is that the neurons that we could identify

were not responding to things like ideas or emotion,

which was what we had expected.

They were mostly responding to things like Jennifer Aniston

or Halle Berry

or Justin Trudeau.

I mean --

(Laughter)

In hindsight, we shouldn't have been that surprised.

I mean, what do your neurons spend most of their time thinking about?

(Laughter)

But really, the point is that

this technology enabled us to begin studying neuroscience in individuals.

So much like the transition to genetics, at the single cell level,

we started to study neuroscience, at the single human level.

But we weren't quite there yet.

Because these technologies

were still restricted to medical applications,

which meant that we were studying sick brains, not healthy brains.

Because no matter how safe your technology is,

you can't stick something into someone's brain

for research purposes.

They have to want it.

And why would they want it?

Because as soon as you have an electrical connection to the brain,

you can use it to hook the brain up to a computer.

Oh, well, you know, the general public was very skeptical at first.

I mean, who wants to hook their brain up to their computers?

Well just imagine being able to send an email with a thought.

(Laughter)

Imagine being able to take a picture with your eyes, OK?

(Laughter)

Imagine never forgetting anything anymore,

because anything that you choose to remember

will be stored permanently on a hard drive somewhere,

able to be recalled at will.

(Laughter)

The line here between crazy and visionary

was never quite clear.

But the systems were safe.

So when the FDA decided to deregulate these laser-drilling systems, in 2043,

commercial demand just exploded.

People started signing their emails,

"Please excuse any typos.

Sent from my brain."

(Laughter)

Commercial systems popped up left and right,

offering the latest and greatest in neural interfacing technology.

There were 100 electrodes.

A thousand electrodes.

High bandwidth for only 99.99 a month.

(Laughter)

Soon, everyone had them.

And that was the key.

Because, in the 2050s, if you were a neuroscientist,

you could have someone come into your lab essentially from off the street.

And you could have them engaged in some emotional task

or social behavior or abstract reasoning,

things you could never study in mice.

And you could record the activity of their neurons

using the interfaces that they already had.

And then you could also ask them about what they were experiencing.

So this link between psychology and neuroscience

that you could never make in the animals, was suddenly there.

So perhaps the classic example of this

was the discovery of the neural basis for insight.

That "Aha!" moment, the moment it all comes together, it clicks.

And this was discovered by two scientists in 2055,

Barry and Late,

who observed, in the dorsal prefrontal cortex,

how in the brain of someone trying to understand an idea,

how different populations of neurons would reorganize themselves --

you're looking at neural activity here in orange --

until finally their activity aligns in a way that leads to positive feedback.

Right there.

That is understanding.

So finally, we were able to get at the things that make us human.

And that's what really opened the way to major insights from medicine.

Because, starting in the 2060s,

with the ability to record the neural activity

in the brains of patients with these different mental diseases,

rather than defining the diseases on the basis of their symptoms,

as we had at the beginning of the century,

we started to define them

on the basis of the actual pathology that we observed at the neural level.

So for example, in the case of ADHD,

we discovered that there are dozens of different diseases,

all of which had been called ADHD at the start of the century,

that actually had nothing to do with each other,

except that they had similar symptoms.

And they needed to be treated in different ways.

So it was kind of incredible, in retrospect,

that at the beginning of the century,

we had been treating all those different diseases

with the same drug,

just by giving people amphetamine, basically is what we were doing.

And schizophrenia and depression are the same way.

So rather than prescribing drugs to people essentially at random,

as we had,

we learned how to predict which drugs would be most effective

in which patients,

and that just led to this huge improvement in outcomes.

OK, I want to bring you back now to the year 2017.

Some of this may sound satirical or even far fetched.

And some of it is.

I mean, I can't actually see into the future.

I don't actually know

if we're going to be drilling hundreds or thousands of microscopic holes

in our heads in 30 years.

But what I can tell you

is that we're not going to make any progress

towards understanding the human brain or human diseases

until we figure out how to get at the electrical activity of neurons

in healthy humans.

And almost no one is working on figuring out how to do that today.

That is the future of neuroscience.

And I think it's time for neuroscientists to put down the mouse brain

and to dedicate the thought and investment necessary

to understand the human brain and human disease.

Thank you.

#TBT 24 Reasons Honey, I Blew Up The Kid & Ant Man Are The Same Movie - Duration: 3:45.

There's a company working on technology that can manipulate density to change the

size of stuff.

In the lab, we see a presentation and it looks like the organization is on the cusp of something

great except most of the test subjects popping and having to be be cleaned off the floor.

In the right hands, I could see this tech being a warm light for all mankind, but you

could tell the evil program director has other things in mind.

Later on, the evil dude is having a drink of wine with one of the board members from

the company and together, they talk about how they hate the main scientist guy in the

movie.

Honestly, I think if a man talks about another man while that man ain't present, a man

don't listen.

But it doesn't matter because the evil guy hates the scientist guy for no reason and

it sucks because he's probably the solution to his problem since scientist guy is the

only person to successfully shrink a human test subject.

To reward him for his miracle, he's granted no say so whatsoever in company operations.

With the whole revenge, business politics, corruption and greed themes in the first 5

minutes, you forget you're watching a Disney movie for a second, but you're reminded

later on when the family friendly elements start creeping in there.

There's some heartfelt moments like the when the dude who works at the junk food joint

wants more out of life and you can't help, but root for the guy.

The tear jerker scene comes right around that part too and your eyes get watery when the

man gives his kid this bunny toy, and even though the bunny looks creepy as hell, the

kid loves it anyway because it came from his or her daddy.

The tone of the movie makes a sharp right at the part where it becomes a heist film

about a quarter into the run time.

One of the characters breaks into a building and steals the shrinking technology.

Wackiness ensues and we learn that changing size has it's pros, but has a whole lotta

cons.

Biggest cons include impossibility to stay on beat no matter what type of music the DJ's

playing.

And yeah, property insurance covers fires, theft, and some water damage, but the companies

that reimburse you when the damage was caused by somebody changing sizes, I heard they charge

you a fee if you pay by phone.

But anyway, the guy that changes sizes, the scientist, and the scientist's kid join

forces and break into the lab.

When they get to the lab, surprisingly the villain saw it coming from a mile and is waiting

there for them like "aha".

It doesn't even matter though, because they wiped the database and now the research won't

run the risk of getting into the wrong hands (audio).

Later on, when the action picks up one of the guys turns big in a random family's

backyard and everybody's like Ahhh and runs for your lives.

Meanwhile, two cops are pursuing the fully loaded van from the heist part.

The two characters in the van get to getaway without a speeding ticket or anything.

Then, at the part where the evil guy grabs the scientists kid and the guy who changes

sizes gets taken into custody you get the feeling it's about to get real.

You're absolutely right because it gets real when the evil program director gets into

a helicopter and at first, it looks like he's shooting at the guy for no reason, but there's

a little bit of method to his madness though.

See I don't think it's a good idea for the bad guys or the good guys to be experimenting

with that stuff.

During the scene where they character develop the scientist's wife, he even tells you

how dangerous it is.

(Audio of wife from Honey).

After a climatic ending where one of the main dudes plays with a toy car, and trust me it's

way more exciting than it sounds.

The bad guy's defeated and never heard from again, barring any future storylines in prequels,

sequels or equals.

At the end, the scientist walks in on his kid first basing the person he hired earlier

in the movie.

So it's true money, can't guy you love, but false when your parents are the ones that

wrote the check.

5 Reasons Why The Purge Might Actually Happen - Duration: 5:15.

That is a clip from the trailer of the new purge movie- The first purge- Which is the

4th installment in the franchise.

Its set to come out July 4th.

Yeah, it looks just as terrifying as all of the other purge movies if not more.

So yay for that.

Hey, guys, I'm Court McGinley and welcome back to the most amazing top 5.

Lets just right into our list of the 5 reasons why the purge would be scary in real life.

Starting off at our number 5 spot--The government- This is power tripping if I've ever seen it.

Telling the whole world to go after one another- and making it's so easy and accessible is

insane.

The government should be teaching people to unify not bottle everything up- until the

one night you can release your emotions you just go on a crazy killing spree.

It also interesting to note how the government makes sure they are protected.

Pretty much the only sole rule during the purge is that government officials of ranking

10 or higher must remain unharmed.

The other rule is that weaponry above a class 4 is forbidden.

And to make sure people don't go after the government if anyone breaks this rule they

will be executed.

So yeah the government is telling people to kill one another yet they cant be harmed.

That's fair.

In at number 4--No help- They make it clear that during the purge there will be a Suspension

of emergency service for 12 hours.

Say at the beginning of the night you get shot or stabbed and your attacker just leaves

you there.

Within 12 hours you're going to bleed out.

But then in some of the movies we see the rebels who don't follow this rule and ride

around in their van helping wounded people.

They are risking their own lives to save others.

See as much as the government would like to control everyone they cant.

At number 3--The Aftermath- Yeah so in the movies we don't really see much about the

aftermath of the purge.

They mention how the economy does better and the crime rate and unemployment rate has gone

down- and that's all great- but at what cost?

I mean think about it on the minor end there would be so much property damage- it would

take weeks to clean everything up and months to rebuild.

Then you have the emotional and physical injuries that people are going to have to deal with

and constantly be reminded of.

Yours just supposed to go back to your normal lives?

How is that even possible?

Like just think your pretty sure your neighbor bob from 2 doors down was trying to kill you

last night- how are you suppose to go back to having small talk with him or having his

family over for dinner?

Like its just so bizarre.

Then you have the worst thing the clean up of the dead bodies.

How is that not more of a concern?

Like yes, people are killed in their homes and in buildings but there's also a bunch

of people who are killed on the streets and come morning their dead lifeless bodies are

still out there.

Even if you don't participate in the purge and lock yourself in somewhere safe you still

have to see the aftermath of it when you step outside the next day.

That must be traumatizing- especially for children.

Also the next day I would need to call everyone I know to make sure they are safe and still

alive.

Because really anyone could be killed that night.

Coming in at number 2--The unknown- So I know one of the advantages of the purge is the

fact that you can kill someone without them knowing your identity.

But honestly, that's also a super terrifying thing.

I mean to say someone tries to kill you but you somehow live.

Then for the rest of the year, you don't know who that person was- and you're just

going to live in constant fear and try to figure out who it was that tried to murder

you.

And ultimately that's just going to make you go crazy.

Not to mention killers in high- cheek boned- hallowed black eyed- deranged smiling masks

is just a terrifying thing in itself.

Like imagine someone wearing this- can you show a picture of the mask- and coming at

you yeah no thanks.

I hate killers and masks as it is.

Never mind having a whole night devoted to it.

It's also cowardly if you're going to kill someone- at least let them know who you are.

If you're brave enough to kill another person then you should be brave enough to show your

face.

Just saying.

Also, say like in the first movie you're secure in your house minding your own business just

trying to wait it out.

Then on your cameras, you see someone outside who is hurt and begging you to let them inside

your house or to help them.

So in the movie, we see the young son let the man who is injured inside.

Which seems like a nice thing to do but then some randoms in masks show up at the house.

Saying that the man they just let inside was their target for this year's purge.

So yeah like I said the unknown of the purge is pretty terrifying.

You think you're doing the right thing- but at the same time doing that act could've

just marked you and your family as targets.

That's crazy.

And in at number 1--Killing- yeah straight up just the fact that you could be killed

at Any moment is terrifying.

Well I mean technically now at this time in your life you could be killed at any time

too.

But on this night its highly encouraged.

On this one night a year all crime is legal.

Its advertised as a night for people to have a feeling of release.

You literally just have to piss off the wrong person and they have a day where legally they

can kill you.

That's just messed up.

Its almost as though the government is trying to train these people to turn off there humanity

for one night a year.

There are probably people who otherwise would never consider killing someone.

But give them a prime opportunity-the ability to be anonymous and a get out of jail free

card and you never know what someone could be capable of.

It's just really creepy when you think about it.

Its also messed up when you realize that this actually involves a lot of stocking as well.

If you're going on the hunt then you need to know where this person lives.

Yeah, this night is just one big creep fest.

I would never be able to kill someone.

I mean sure there are people I don't like and some people I know who have done shady

stuff by I just ignore those people.

Like yeah, you aren't going to get in trouble for killing on this night but knowing that

you actually ended someones life is something that would haunt you day in and day out.

Just not worth it.

Also, it's not right if someone believes they hold the power if someone lives or dies.

People just need to relax.

And there you guys have it that's our list of the 5 reasons the purge would be scary

in real life.

Thank you all so much for watching.

If you have questions or comments leave them down below so I can respond to them.

(uplifting music)

- I am what I am.

- I am my own special creation.

- So come take a look.

- Give me the hug.

- Or the ovation.

- It's my world that I want to have a little pride in.

- My world and it's not a place I have to hide in.

- Life's not worth a damn until you can say.

- Hey world.

- I am what I am.

- I am what I am.

- I don't want praise.

- I don't need pity.

- I bang my own drum.

- If some think it's noise.

- I think it's pretty.

- And so what if I love each feather and each spangle?

- Why not try and see the world from a different angle?

- Life's not worth a damn until you can say

(speaking foreign language)

- I am what I am.

- I am what I am.

- And what I am needs no excuses.

- I deal my own deck.

- Sometimes the ace.

- Sometimes the doozies.

- It's my life and there's no return and no deposit.

- One life.

- So it's time to open up your closets.

- Life's not worth a damn til you can say.

- Hey world, I am what I am.

Rep.John Radcliffe in the discussion literally smeared Rod Rosenstein to smithereens - Duration: 10:27.

Radcliff for five minutes a gentleman agent Peter struck gave us

the time line yesterday that following his work on the Hillary Clinton email

investigation he was assigned as a lead agent of the Russia collusion

investigation from late July of 2016 until May of 2017 then in late May of

2017 following your appointment of robert muller agent struck became part

of a special counsel Muller's investigative team until late July of

2017 when he was removed by special counsel Muller and returned to the FBI

any disagreement about that timeline I don't know the precise nature testified

at length about his roles during that year from late July of 2016 to late July

of 2017 as part of those investigative teams he testified in fact that he

drafted the initial investigative plan on the Russia Kaluga investigation that

he made investigative decisions and took action eight investigative decisions and

took actions to gather information and collect evidence in both the Trump

Russia matter and and the Special Counsel probe agent struck also admitted

that before and during that same year a point of order mr. chairman we had a

closed hearing on Peter Straub if you want to call his testimony like this

release the transcript have an open hearing don't characterize and not let

him testify that is don't take things out of context these has transcend it's

not a valid point of order the gentlemen proceed so ace is running also to agents

from also gentleman state's point of order I assume it is a valid point of

order to object to quoting or characterizing statements in this in a

confidential setting

release their transcript mr. chairman American people deserve a hero's

testimony under oath do not hide his testimony borders the

testimony mr. chairman as you know from transcribes interviewed transcribed

interviews can be used for hearing purposes released a transcribed

interview to the American people the transcript over you release the very

people appropriate time but the new learn didn't use it for the purpose of

this question to the witness in the hearing we were under the impression mr.

chairman that these hearings that these transfers were not to be quoted the

chair has ruled gentlemen so agents truck also admitted that before and

during that same year

all right agent struck admitted that before and during that same year he sent

many many text messages about Donald Trump text messages that we've already

established and you've agreed it's a little bit counseling to the gentleman

finished so again agent struck sent many text messages about Donald Trump we've

established and you've agreed that those reflect a hatred and bias towards Donald

Trump now I reviewed with agent struck and he confirmed that he was in fact the

person who sent the text messages that said F Trump Trump is an effing idiot

that talked about stopping Trump from becoming president they talked about

impeaching Trump as the president they talked about protecting the country from

Trump and talked about an insurance policy against the risk of a trump

presidency just to name a few those are the very same text by the way

that inspector general forward says you know characterized is deeply troubling

and expressed his concern that agents truck may have acted upon the bias

expressed in those Trump's in prioritizing his work on the Russia

collusion investigation on the Weiner laptop issue a matter that he's now

investigating now when I asked agent struck about his conversations with

Special Counsel Muller or anyone on his team about his removal he described the

details of a single conversation he said it lasted about ten or fifteen minutes

but certainly less than thirty minutes he said special counsel Muller made it

very clear that he was being removed from the case because of the text

messages but I was surprised that he said that neither special counsel Muller

or anyone on his team asked him about the text or his expressed hatred of

Donald Trump II said special counsel never asked him what he meant when he

sent those tasks he said that special counsel Muller never asked him if he

acted upon the bias and the hatred reflected in those texts

I asked agent struck at least a half a dozen times did Special Counsel Muller

or anyone on his team ever ask you about these troubling text messages and

whether any of your actions taken whether any of your decisions made and

when the whether any of the evidence you collected may have been corrupted or

tainted or in any way influenced by the hatred bias or prejudice expressed in

these texts he repeatedly and unequivocally said no yes we know that

special counsel Muller removed from from the case but what did special counsel

Muller do to determine whether or how the actions taken the decisions made and

the evidence gathered by a Donald Trump hating lead investigator how that may

have prejudiced Donald Trump as a subject evidence by the way that agent

struck unequivocally stated in the presence of FBI counsel that became part

of the Special Counsel Muller's foundational evidence and that was used

by the Special Counsel team his special counsel Muller was here I know what I

would ask him but he's not but his supervisor is so mr. deputy

attorney general what if anything his special counsel Muller done to determine

whether the actions taken the decisions made and the evidence collected by a

special agent Peter struck was impacted by his very clear hatred and bias of

President Trump Carson is I know you're aware director Muller has vast

experience both as a prosecutor and as a supervisor of the FBI so I can assure

you that he understands the importance of considering any credibility issues

and determining whether I have to rely upon a a person with regard to the well

so let me stop you so what actions has he taken as a

supervisor I we're not going to talk publicly about substance the

investigation I don't want you do that can you tell me whether you know he has

yes steps to determine yes director Muller has taken appropriate steps and

keep in mind congressman now so let me stop you there I'm

I'm thrilled to hear that he's taking steps you and I are both former

prosecutors how does a prosecutor go about eliminating bias prejudice and

expressed hatred from foundational evidence because you know of course that

if you're rude evidence is fairly called into question everything that comes from

that evidence is fairly called into question right sir yes I realize I just

find a time to give a somewhat comprehensive response as you know when

we conduct an investigation the purpose is to determine whether out there

sufficient evidence to prove the purpose is to determine whether the sufficient

evidence to prove a case in court and if you're going to court and you're taking

a piece of evidence you're relying upon a witness you need to consider any

issues that go to the credibility of the witness or the credibility of the

evidence and so use the term foundational evidence I'm not sure

exactly what you have in mind but if for example director Mulder to rely upon a

document that mr. Strutt produced or a statement that he took or were to call

him as a witness obviously you need to consider that evidence that would be

evidence to attend to impeach his credibility and director Muller well

knows and I just wanted to quickly respond if I could I recognize we're out

of time but director Muller and I learned about this issue at the same

time and we learned about it from the inspector general brought it to our

attention soon after he discovered it I believe it was last July and so it was

our understanding that the Inspector General was conducting an investigation

of mr. struck so the fact that director Moe didn't spend a lot of time

questioning him I think that was probably appropriate because that was

the Inspector General's job but I would also point out that I don't think it

took director Muller very long after seeing those text messages

to decide what was the right thing to do

you

you

Mystery Of Tupac Is Finally SOLVED - Duration: 2:33.

A man who was suspected of killing Tupac Shakur has confessed to his participation in Tupac's

murder. I'm going to tell you everything you need to know, here for you on IO.

Welcome back to IO, I'm charlotte dobre. Duake Kieth Davis, an ex gang member who is

also known as keffe d, has revealed explosive details of Tupac's m, which shook the world

back in September of 1996. He says that he was in the car when one of the members of

the gang he was involved in s Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. Davis is the uncle of one of

the suspects in Tupac's m, Orlando Baby Lane Anderson.

Tupac Shakur was driving around Nevada with Suge Knight, owner of his record label death

row records. The car they were in was parked at a red light, when a white Cadillac pulled

up next to them. The men in the back seat of the Cadillac began to f s at the pair,

and Tupac was s 4 times. He d a few days later, at the young age of 25.

He was quoted saying ' I was a Compton kingpin, d d, and I'm the only one alive who can

tell you the story about the Tupac k. People have apparently been after him for 20 years

for what he knows. So why is it that this guy, who was essentially

an accomplice to one of the most famous unsolved m of all time, finally felt it was necessary

to come forward? Well, Davis was diagnosed with cancer, and he feels like he doesn't

have anything to lose anymore. He said that all he cares about now is the

truth. Davis admits that his nephew, Orlando, had beef with Tupac after he had been a by

Tupac in the lobby of a Vegas casino, and was looking for revenge.

The person driving was Terrence T Brown, and Davis was sitting in the passengers seat.

That being said he never actually revealed who f the s at Tupac Shakur from the back

seat of the Cadillac he was riding in, because of street code and loyalty to certain people.

If you guys are interested in this topic I highly recommend checking out the Netflix

documentary series Unsolved. It's about Tupac and Biggies m. Following the release

of this series, journalists as well as the producer of unsolved have tried to push the

police to release documents about the investigation, but the Las Vegas police department refused

because the investigation is still ongoing. But at the same time, the center for investigative

reporting said that the case notes are of historical importance and therefore should

be made public. How do you guys feel about this? Do you think that the Tupac m case should

be considered a case of historical importance? Let me know in the comments. Even though Tupac's

m was 22 years ago, it was incredibly influential, and the ripples can still be felt today. I

think its time that the details of the case are released to the public, and those who

were responsible should finally be punished for their crimes

Anyways guys, that's my two cents, let me know yours in the comments, because of the

sensitive nature of this video, we will not be responding to comments. Thanks for watching

IO, if you wanna keep watching, check out this playlist over here.

FAQs From Our First Year - Duration: 10:02.

Hey.

We've been together for a long time now.

A year, as a matter of fact!

But if it feels like we've known each other for slightly longer than one year, it's probably because,

over the course of the first season of PBS Eons, we've explored the history of Earth from the very

origins of life right up to the Cenozoic Era which is what we're in right now.

And along the way, you've asked some really excellent questions.

We've tried to address some of them in the comments.

But some of the most common questions we've gotten turned out to have some interesting

and complicated answers.

Others … were just about why we pronounce things the way we do.

Either way, we'd like to celebrate our first anniversary together by answering some of

your most frequently asked questions.

One of our most f a'd q's came from our episode on the Great Snake Debate, and the

conflicting theories about snake evolution.

In the episode, we noted that, somewhere around 200 million years ago, snakes diverged from

lizards.

But were they aquatic or terrestrial?

And both fossil anatomy and modern genetic evidence seem to add support to both theories.

So many of you asked: Why not both?

Well, all snakes need a common ancestor.

If snakes evolved from two different lineages of lizard, and both became "snake-like,"

that would be an example of convergent evolution.

And this has happened!

It's why there are such things as legless lizards today, as well as true snakes.

Both animals converged on the same body plan that helped them survive and reproduce.

But it's unlikely that some lineages would come from marine reptiles,

and others would come from

terrestrial reptiles, and then they all wound up being snakes.

That's not how evolution works..

usually.

There is a rare phenomenon known as despeciation or reverse speciation, in which two

lineages converge and form a hybrid.

But this has only been observed in modern species like the common raven and stickleback

fish.

Teasing this out of the sparse fossil record of snakes would be a challenge...if not impossible.

However I should mention that our understanding of the evolutionary history of snakes, as

well as so many things, is still a work in progress.

Now, let's move on to our episode about Spinosaurus, which we described as the only

known semi-aquatic dinosaur.

To which many of you responded: What about Halszkaraptor?

Well, it was only in November of 2017 that, Halszkaraptor, a new Dromaeosaurid dinosaur,

was described from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia.

After confirming the specimen was genuine -- it has a shady past -- the researchers

found it to be semiaquatic.

The specimen was collected by poachers, smuggled through China and into Europe.

Luckily it was rescued by a paleontologist at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural

Sciences and will be returned to Mongolia once researchers are finished with it.

We probably should have mentioned Halszkaraptor in the episode, but we didn't due to the

newness of the specimen.

There hasn't been much time for the scientific community to review the conclusions put forth

in the report, and as you'll learn in a little bit, there's a LOT about Spinosaurus

that people are still arguing about.

But if you'd like to check out the manuscript and do your own peer review, it can be found

in the description.

And of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention a question that has come up time and

again in the past year, especially in our episode on Triassic animals:

Nitch or neesh?

Well, we consulted the online Oxford english dictionary to see how to pronounce this word,

and it lists both nitch and neesh as acceptable pronunciations.

So there

I'd like to answer a question that's related to Kallie's.

Not the niche thing, the other one.

Was Spinosaurus bipedal or quadrupedal?

Turns out there's more than one controversy about this animal.

Not only is there some debate about whether Spinosaurus was the only semi-aquatic dinosaur,

there's also not a real consensus about how many legs this thing walked on, and when.

It may have walked on two legs, or four, or switched back and forth, depending on whether

it was on land or in water.

As with so many things in this field, it depends on who you ask.

For example, if you're the person who first found and named Spinosaurus -- that would

be Ernst Freiherr Stromer von Reichenbach -- then you'd say it walked on two legs.

Because, one thing that everyone pretty much agreed on was that Spinosaurus was a theropod,

and that's one of a theropod's defining features.

So, in his reconstruction of Spinosaurus, he drew it on its hind legs.

But, if you're the person who found the most recent and complete fossils of Spinosaurus,

then you'd say otherwise.

Nizar Ibrahim revolutionized our thinking about Spinosaurus when he found fossils of

it from Morocco in 2008.

And in 2014, he and his colleagues published a paper suggesting that spinosaurus was an

obligate quadruped, meaning that it had to walk on all fours, at least on land.

They based this on the size of its hindlimbs, the location of its center of mass, and the

orientation of its hips.

But this model has gotten a lukewarm reception from other researchers.

Some have taken issue with the measurements used in the study.

Others pointed out that even Ibrahim's exquisite specimen was still incomplete, including the

legs.

OH but, if you're Jurassic Park, then Spinosaurus is definitely a biped.

But that's mainly because Jurassic Park III came out before Ibrahim's paper.

And anyway, we try not to use Jurassic Park movies a whole lot in our research

Another common question came from our episode on the Cenozoic era, the era that leads right

up to today.

And that question was basically variations on: "Is the Anthropocene a thing?"

The answer here is a very clear: Not yet.

To give you some background here, back in 2000, two scientists -- atmospheric chemist Paul

Crutzen and aquatic biologist Eugene Stormer -- proposed that the current epoch of geologic

time that we're now in, be given a new name, the Anthropocene.

They argued that humans have had such a dramatic impact on the planet that -- just as with

any other game-changing event -- that impact should mark the beginning of its own epoch.

And yes I pronounce it "epoch."

You can say it in your head however you want.

Now, even though this proposal is nearly 20 years old, it's still not an official part

of the Geologic Time Scale.

But it has stirred a really interesting debate, not just about what our impacts are on the

planet, but how we can actually measure them.

For instance, if we're gonna create a new epoch, then which of our many marks on the

land would signal its beginning?

Crutzen and Stormer first proposed that the Anthropocene should begin in the late 1700s.

That's when ice cores begin to show a rapid rise in concentrations of CO2, as the burning

of fossil fuels first became widespread during the Industrial Revolution.

But others have suggested that more visible boundaries might be useful for future geologists.

Like, some have proposed that concrete and cement be the markers, because they started

to come into widespread use in the late 1800s.

Others have suggested plastics, which have been filling our landfills since the early

20th century.

And one paper, which Crutzen co-wrote, proposed that the Anthropocene should begin exactly on July

16th 1945, when the first nuclear bomb was detonated in New Mexico.

Because decades of nuclear testing have left an unmistakable concentration of isotopes

like plutonium-239.

Now, some experts have argued that the whole thing is a bad idea.

They point out that the concept itself is kind of human-centric instead of geology-centric,

and that human impacts have escalated at different times in different parts of the world.

In any case, the fate of the Anthropocene Epoch now rests with the official keepers

of the Geologic Time Scale, a group known as the International Commission on Stratigraphy.

The proposal was submitted in 2016, and since then the commission has been … thinking

about it.

As you can imagine, decisions about geologic time do not happen quickly.

Ok. And here's another question that I personally would like to address.

It's this one:

Now, that's not really a question.

It's more of an equation.

But for what it's worth, Merriam Webster lists the pronunciation of that word as either

"nitch," or "neesh".

Finally, one of our most frequently asked questions came from our episode about the

Mesozoic Era, the so-called Age of Reptiles.

And since the Mesozoic was the heyday of the dinosaurs, a lot of you asked: Are dinosaurs

reptiles?

And does that mean that birds are also reptiles?

And the answer is: yes and no.

But also, yes and yes.

It depends on what system you use to classify organisms.

The system that's been around the longest is the Linnaean system, named after Swedish

biologist Carl Linnaeus.

It classifies living things based on their physical characteristics, and then ranks them

based on how similar they are, from the general to the specific -- from domain to species.

And in this system, the class Reptilia includes air-breathing animals with backbones and scales.

To be a reptile, you had to have those things.

And birds do!

But the thing is, technically, the class Reptilia does NOT include birds.

Instead, they're part of another class called Aves.

This is partly because Linnaeus defined the classes of modern animals in the 1700's,

long before we understood the evolutionary relationships of things.

But still, dinosaurs were closely related to -- and they shared traits with -- animals

that are un-arguably reptiles, like crocodiles.

So, according to Linnaean Taxonomy, dinosaurs are in class Reptilia; they're reptiles.

But birds aren't, mainly for historical reasons.

Now, many biologists and paleontologists today want to name things in a way that reflects

their shared evolutionary history.

This system classifies organisms into clades, and it's called cladistics.

and in this system, since dinosaurs derived directly from reptiles and share a close evolutionary

relationship with them, they're still considered reptiles, because they belong to the reptile

clade.

And, so are birds!

Because birds descended from dinosaurs, so they belong to the dinosaur clade, which itself

belongs to the reptile clade.

This makes birds both dinosaurs AND reptiles.

Which is weird, I know.

But a lot of science comes down to arguing about things -- like, whether Halszkaraptor

was aquatic, or whether we should name a new epoch after ourselves, or who belongs in what

clade.

The things to remember is that there can be many different, conflicting, proposed answers

to a single question.

And by arguing with each other over the facts, we just might sort some of them out.

Oh, and when it comes to how you pronounce this word?

I pronounce it: "jif."

Tennys Sandgren: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com - Duration: 12:30.

Tennys Sandgren: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Tennys Sandgren at the French Open at Roland Garros on May 29, 2018.

Controversial tennis pro Tennys Sandgren made his Wimbledon debut Tuesday against one of the most popular players in the sport: three-time champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

The pair had never played against each other before, largely due to the fact that Sandgren had repeatedly failed to qualify for Grand Slam tournaments thus far in his career.

Djokovic, who is the #12 seed in the tournament, spent half of 2017 sidelined as he recovered from an elbow injury.

Some analysts including tennis legend John McEnroe question whether the time away negatively impacted his mental game.

McEnroe recently said Djokovic had "lost that fire, the look in his eye, I don't see it any more." If Djokovic had come out shaky, that could have created an opportunity for Sandgren to pull off an upset.

But that was not the case: Djokovic easily swept Sandgren in straight sets in the first-round matchup.

Here's what you need to know.

Tennys Sandgren Recently Had the Best Performance of His Career in Australia.

The 26-year-old from Gallatin, Tennessee turned pro in 2011.

But he's spent most of his time playing on the ATP Challenger Tour, and has struggled to qualify for Grand Slams.

At the U.S.

Open in August of 2017, he went out in the first round.

But something lit a fire under him before the Australian Open in January 2018.

He defeated Dominic Thiem of Austria, who at the time was ranked #5 in the world, in Sandgren's first five-set match at a Grand Slam.

Sandgren was unable to keep that streak going however.

In the quarterfinals, he failed to win a single set against Hyeon Chung of South Korea, losing in straight sets.

Sandgren's next Grand Slam appearance was at Roland-Garros in May.

He again lost in the first round.

Sandgren is currently ranked #57 in the world, according to the ATP.

He first broke the top 100 at the end of 2017.

His career earnings total just over $1 million, most of which he has made this year alone ($608,333).

Sandgren Has Been Accused of Being Involved With the Alt-Right.

The success in Australia exposed Sandgren to much more attention than he has ever received before.

That spotlight revealed social media activity that called into question whether Sandgren was involved in the alt-right, or at least supported its activities.

The people he followed included controversial figures such as Nicholas Fuentes, who the New York Times referred to as an alt-right commentator and former host of a podcast called "America First.".

Sandgren also made headlines for getting into a Twitter debate with retired tennis star James Blake about police brutality.

In 2015, Blake was mistaken for a suspect in New York and was slammed to the ground by a white police officer.

(You can see screenshots of the Twitter exchange here).

Sandgren also appeared to feed into the debunked "Pizzagate" controversy, in which Hillary Clinton was accused of running a child sex ring out of a pizza shop.

He posted "It's sickening and the collective evidence is too much to ignore," in response to a Twitter conversation labeled "Pizzagate.".

Sandgren denied that he was sympathetic to the alt-right movement.

He defended himself by arguing that while he found some of the content interesting, that did not mean he agreed with the message.

He compared the situation to how people consume the news.

He told reporters, "If you watch a news channel you wouldn't then say that that person who's watching a news channel thinks everything that that news channel puts out." Amid all the backlash, Sandgren scrubbed the vast majority of his twitter feed.

Sandgren Was Slammed For a Tweet Featuring Serena Williams.

In 2012, Sandgren shared an article that featured a picture of Serena Williams screaming on the tennis court.

He wrote one comment: "Disgusting." Critics slammed the tweet as racist.

It has since been deleted, but screenshots were widely shared across the Internet.

That comment came roaring back into the spotlight during the Australian Open in January, amid the scrutiny of Sandgren's links to alt-right supporters on Twitter.

At that time, Williams did not specifically address the "disgusting" tweet.

But she targeted Sandgren during his match against Hyeon Chung on Twitter, by implying that she was changing the channel and refusing to watch.

Williams later tweeted at Sandgren that while she did not want or need a direct apology, the rest of the public deserved one.

She wrote that "there is a entire group of people that deserves an apology.

I cant look at my daughter and tell her I sat back and was quiet.

No! she will know how to stand up for herself and others- through my example.".

Sandgren Tried to Defend Himself By Criticizing the Media.

During a press conference at the Australian Open, Sandgren initially held off reporter questions about his match in order to read a prepared statement from his phone.

He defended himself against the backlash concerning his social media activity by going on the offensive.

"You seek to put people in these little boxes so that you can order the world in your already assumed preconceived ideas.

You strip away any individuality for the sake of demonizing by way of the collective.

With a handful of follows and some likes on Twitter, my fate has been sealed in your minds.

To write an edgy story, to create sensationalist coverage, there are a few lengths you wouldn't go to to mark me as the man you desperately want me to be.

You would rather perpetuate propaganda machines instead of researching information from a host of angles and perspectives while being willing to learn, change, and grow.

You dehumanize with pen and paper and turn neighbor against neighbor.

In so doing, you may actually find you're hastening the hell you wish to avoid, the hell we all wish to avoid.

It is my firm belief that the highest value must be placed on the virtue of each individual, regardless of gender, race, religion or sexual orientation.

It's my job to continue on this journey with the goal of becoming the best me I can and to embody the love Christ has for me, for I answer to Him and Him alone.".

Sandgren is Dating Former ESPN Reporter Britt McHenry.

Puts up with me in between tournaments.

I vote GOP Conventions & wine tours.

A post shared by Britt McHenry (@brittmchenry) on Jun 16, 2018 at 8:39pm PDT.

The American tennis player is making headlines for a completely different reason in recent weeks: he is reportedly dating former ESPN reporter Britt McHenry.

She shared pictures of the two on Instagram beginning in early June.

McHenry is now a Fox News commentator.

Cheering for you is easy @tsandgren7…even if the French Open refuses to sell beer.

#champagnethough A post shared by Britt McHenry (@brittmchenry) on Jun 3, 2018 at 3:50pm PDT.

McHenry is not without her own controversy.

The conservative commentator was let go from ESPN in 2017.

Upon her departure, she claimed on Twitter that she was unfairly targeted because she is white.

She also stated that ESPN wanted to fire her because she earned too much money.

Those tweets have since been deleted from McHenry's account.

In April of 2015, a video of McHenry insulting an employee of a towing company went viral.

McHenry's car had been towed, and she was paying the attendant to get it back– but not before telling the woman "lose some weight, baby girl" and saying she was uneducated.

McHenry was suspended after the incident.

Reading Improves Your English Vocabulary | Learn English Conversation - Duration: 3:00.

Hi everyone, I'm Lynn.

Thanks for watching my video.

Today, I'm gonna be telling you about how to learn new English vocabulary

and use it in everyday conversation.

This is a very important video.

So keep watching.

A lot of my students are studying the TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or other English tests.

And I understand.

They have to learn a lot of new words in a very short period of time.

But let me tell you something

Memorizing vocabulary lists is not a good way to learn English.

The best way - the very best way to learn English is by reading.

Reading anything that you can.

Books in English.

Magazine articles in English.

Even comic books.

Whatever you like - read - and read as much as you can.

This is really going to help you improve your English much more than memorizing long vocabulary lists.

It just doesn't work.

But, the thing is, how can we use this vocabulary in everyday conversation?

The most important thing to do is as soon as you learn a new vocabulary word or even a phrase,

Use it! right away!

Make yourself a note

or something to help you remember to use that in conversation.

Even the same day would be good.

Using the vocabulary right away is going to help you memorize it

and stick in your brain.

And you know what, you might be afraid that you're gonna use it wrong or incorrectly

That's okay.

If you use it wrong or incorrectly - not a problem,

that's part of the learning process.

And using what you read is going to help you memorize the English words a lot faster.

By actively using new vocabulary every day, you're going to really memorize that

and it's gonna help you become a better English speaker much faster.

Memorizing vocabulary lists is not a good way to learn English.

If you don't use the new words, then you won't master pronunciation and you might forget the words.

So remember. Read it and use it.

Thanks for watching.

If you can think of any other useful ways to memorize and use new vocabulary,

let me know in the comments and don't forget to Like and subscribe.

rev up your engines, J Michael s77 says, Scotty what's the best fuel additives

for getting rid of carbon, lucas, Gumout, okay from my experience, the gumout one seems

to be one of the better ones, what you need to do is make sure that the cleaner

you buy has PEA it's a nitrogen based cleaner and they

all good ones use that now, as an example, the seafoam doesn't add PEA

last time I looked it didn't have any PEA, so it's pretty much useless for modern

cars, so Gumout is a really good one and make sure that it has PEA in it

whatever cleaner you decide to use, because that's the stuff that really works on

First VLOG - Duration: 3:49.

Can't find the button to end it!

Ok so I'm vlogging again, hello my name is Katie and I am a vlogger now.

But back to this now, so I helped my mom and work, filing and stuff.

Then I had to drop off my dad at the doctor's office and then pick him up and come home.

And that's where I am right now so yeah.

I totally didn't vlog that this morning, ya know.

I'm gonna change my clothes, I don't need to be in nice formal wear anymore and I'm

going to wear some nice comfy clothes.

It's like 90's degrees out today so it's gonna be super super hot and I'm not ready for that.

I like summer better than winter so I'm gonna deal with it.

So I feel much better I changed my clothes.

And now I'm gonna go downstairs and eat, then I think maybe later I"m going to either paint

or ride a bike.

Haven't decided yet.

*Music*

Hi so as you can see I started my canvas painting.

And so that's what is happening right now and I have painted it blue so far.

And it's currently thundering and lightning outside so it's kind of loud.

And it's raining really hard now.

But um yeah.

That's what I am doing right now since I can't go outside for a bike ride, nope.

*Music*

So I'm almost done with the painting.

I have a few finishing touches because I messed up, here, here, and here.

Other than that it looks really good.

So yeah I had to move out into the garage because my mom didn't like that i was painting

inside the house.

So i had to move into the garage.

so i moved into the garage.

so that's what i did.

I think that's all I'm gonna do with the rest of the day so um, I'll see you guys tomorrow

or whenever I vlog again.

But this is my new channel, I know I was with Nick before but now I'm like making it my

own finally after so long, I've been wanting to do this so I'm happy I'm doing it.

Vlogging.

I'm gonna try and blog once in a while cause um I'm not very good at that.

but I'm gonna try to keep up with it.

SO that's what's gonna happen.

but yeah so this is the end so byeeee!!
