MACRON UNDERMINED: Hollande 'steps in' over case of imprisoned Frenchman in Turkey

Turkey has come under fire for its crackdown on domestic and foreign media following last year's failed coup, with many accusing the authoritarian regime of human rights abuses. A national outcry from France has followed the case of Loup Bureau.

Mr Hollande said: "I've asked my contacts in Turkey to push for the journalist's immediate release… My actions, however, run in parallel to those being carried out by French officials. I don't want to get in their way.

"We have to tell the Turks that Loup Bureau is a journalist who was just doing his job." Mr Bureau, 27, was arrested by Turkish border guards on the frontier with Iraq on July 26 after he was found to have photographs and interviews with Kurdish militia fighters among his possessions.

Turkey considers the Kurdish YPG militia to be an extension of the PKK, which has been named as a terrorist organisation by Ankara, the United States and the European Union.

Mr Bureau was taken to a state prison and is being held on charges of assisting a terrorist organisation, heightening concerns over his wellbeing and fate.  Mr Hollande's move, however, could be interpreted as a thinly veiled attempt to undermine his successor's authority both at home and abroad.

Mr Macron – who took over the reins of power from Mr Hollande in May after quitting the Socialist government months earlier to form his own party – has asked Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to release Mr Bureau on two separate occasions, to no avail.

The young centrist first told Mr Erdogan that he wanted the journalist to be able to return to France "as soon as possible" on August 15.

They spoke again on August 27, but the Elysée palace has not released an update on the case since.

Mr Erdogan has faced fierce criticism over his treatment of foreign journalists following the regime's crackdown on the press in the wake of last summer's failed military coup, and has repeatedly locked horns with the European Union over its alleged abuse of human rights. .

coins that I just got delivered and I would just like to show you what they

are so I've made it ever videos about these two coins these are a means of

so usually when I just got home, I will grab some cold drinks and eat

crackers and I like to watch youtube videos just to reward myself from all the studying

that I've done that morning

so that's just me having a hiccup and then okay

I'm just there eating and eating again

that's me realizing that that's the last piece of cracker so I

just decided to throw that plastic away

then when I finally got bored I decided to go and

wash my face because its just so oily

its currently 3.30pm right now and

I just feel like taking a nap

a few hours later, I finally woke up and

I decided to check on my phone again...

and this is when

my boyfriend suddenly decided to video called me so that's why I'm smiling :p

and then we just talk for a bit

before I finally decide to get up and do some stuff

Hi guys, I just woke up from a really good nap

currently 5.50pm and I'm at my desk again

I really want to go cycling but it is still very hot outside

look at them skyyy

so I usually cook dinner with my other friend which live in the room just beside my room

but she went back to her hometown so I guess I just have to cook alone today...

I have all the ingredients, now lets cook I just have some cauliflower and maybe fried an egg

Let's eat !

so I just ate my dinner and now I'm having a small dessert which is

this chocolate bar and I also made green tea,

so I think I'll just watch some youtube videos

and eat this then I'm going to shower

*spill some tea and wipe it off with my hand*

just now, when you see me journaling, I'm actually writing about

so I borrowed this book at the library this morning, which

but I'm too lazy to read right now so I just look at the pictures -.-

The other nominee for this week was BLACKPINKs As If Its Your Last. After MAMAMOO was revealed to have taken the final win, a replay of their performance from last week was shown on broadcast. Soompi. Display. News. English.
