Beyond Today -- Confronting Anxiety - Duration: 28:27.

[Gary Petty] What concerns you?

What makes you feel anxious?

Recent studies estimate that approximately 30 percent of adults living in the United

States suffer from anxiety disorders.

Now, everyone suffers some anxiety—taking a test at school, the first day on a new job,

going to the dentist.

You may feel a little anxious just thinking about these situations.

But what happens when overwhelming nervousness, fear, worry and anxiety is a part of everyday

living?

We talked with people in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio about anxiety.

Have you ever felt this way?

>I worry about almost everything.

[Steve] Do you?

>Yeah.

[Steve] So whatever comes to mind?

>Yeah, I have a bit of anxiety that way.

[Gary] Christians suffer from anxiety, although we may not want to talk about it because it

seems like a lack of faith.

Let's talk about it.

Join us on Beyond Today as we discuss: "Confronting Anxiety."

[Gary] We all suffer from some anxiety.

And it seems like there are a lot of things to be anxious about.

[Steve] What is it about day to day living that kind of maybe makes you anxious?

>Well right now I'm on a fixed income, so you know it's hard to try to find a job.

And with a fixed income, a lot of people don't really want to hire you.

So therefore, that stresses you out too, as well.

And you're scared to get off of the fixed income because you can't find a job.

>>I ain't got no way to drive no more…

>The thing that lately has been on my mind a lot—and this is a bigger picture kind

of thing—it's not really a, well it is personal.

It affects me—but is our environment.

That's my biggest fear is of how the future holds for, just our environment in general

I guess, and how that affects everyone on a daily basis.

>>Sometimes, I have some health problems, so maybe because of that, I don't want to

be dependent on others…

>Money!

[Gary] Does any of this sound familiar?

Everyone experiences anxiety, but what happens when anxiety becomes a daily struggle with

almost every activity, every thought, triggering nervousness, fear and worry?

What can you do when anxiety becomes so consuming that you feel paralyzed by the simplest actions

of daily life?

There are many causes for overwhelming anxiety.

There are times when a person suffering from uncontrolled anxiety will need the help of

a professional counselor or medical treatment.

On Beyond Today, we want to help you understand the spiritual side of all human dysfunctional

emotions including overwhelming anxiety.

The first step in dealing with the spiritual side of anxiety may seem obvious, but it's

a step we often forget—seek God's help in prayer.

This may sound a little bit simplistic when you're feeling overwhelmed.

But one of the reasons for anxiety is the feeling that we have little control over what

is happening to us.

Well the truth is is that we don't have control over what other people do, or the

national economy, or the weather, or the traffic or if our children get sick or, okay, you're

starting to feel a little anxious right?

Well there is great comfort in accepting that the Creator is greater than all of our problems.

Trusting in God's power, love, and personal interest in you can bring a sense of peace

to the stresses of everyday life.

Listen to what the apostle Paul wrote about dealing with anxiety: "Be anxious for nothing,

but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made

known to God..."

(Philippians 4:6).

In other words: seek God.

Take your anxieties to Him.

Tell Him how you feel, explain your fears and worries, pour them out to your Father

in heaven.

But notice the other point Paul makes: "with thanksgiving."

We will never learn to confront anxiety, worry and fear until we are consciously thankful

for the good things in life.

As long as we concentrate only on the negative, we will experience negative emotions.

Now here is a simple action you can take every night before you go to bed.

Make a mental list of all the good things that happened that day and thank God.

Even if it's a small list—thank God.

Now we're going to come back to this principle and how it can change your life in just a

few minutes.

But note this: When we follow Paul's instructions to bring our requests to God in heartfelt

prayer, along with a thankful attitude, something happens.

Let's look back at what he wrote in the next verse: "and the peace of God, which

surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians

4:7).

I have to admit, there have been times in my life when fear, worry and anxiety were

overwhelming.

And in those desperate moments, I've cried out to God knowing that He only has the wisdom,

power, and love to calm my human anxieties.

And I have experienced His peace.

It is a peace that surpasses human understanding.

And you also can experience God's peace.

Prayer is a very personal relationship between you and God.

Jesus Christ, who can relate to our human fears and weaknesses, sits at the right hand

of the Father.

We are told that we are to pray in the name of Jesus.

Paul wrote that when we approach God He will—remember what we just read—"guard your hearts and

minds through Jesus Christ."

Seeking God can give us protection from our own dysfunctional emotions and thoughts and

from the outside influences that turn us negative and cause anxiety.

Prayer—talking with God—can be done anytime, anyplace.

At the same time, we need to approach Him with reverence.

Remember that there are times to kneel before God in humility, recognizing His greatness,

His sovereignty, Who He really is.

When you are overwhelmed with anxieties, don't forget the spiritual side and seek God's

help in prayer.

Now, here is an important additional point: In dealing with anxiety, you also have to

deal with the reality that sometimes you are your own worst enemy.

You can fan the fire of anxiety through obsessive thoughts.

When we talked with people about anxiety, many of them recognize the problem with obsessive

thinking.

[Steve] What is anxiety anyway?

>I don't really, I don't know.

I don't have a good definition for it really.

It's kind of almost irrationality about just like things you can't stop thinking

about basically.

So, I don't know.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's just kind of there basically.

>>It's just like this fear that you build up and you can't get rid of it.

You don't know how to get rid of it, because it's a fear that you've made up.

[Gary] She's right.

Anxiety can become unmanageable. 

Our second step in dealing with the spiritual side of anxiety is—get control of your anxious

thoughts.

We have a free Beyond Today study guide, Tools for Spiritual Growth that can help you deal

with obsessive worry and fear by practicing what the Bible calls meditation.

Now biblical meditation isn't a yoga technique to obtain self-awareness.

Biblical meditation is to shut out all of the noise and clutter of everyday life and

think deeply about God.

It is to concentrate on the wonder of His creation.

It is to explore the application of His instructions found in the Bible directly to your life.

So, how do we do this?

Paul wrote this to the church at Philippi: "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever

is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent

or praiseworthy—think about such things" (Philippians 4:8, NIV).

Now here is what you need to do.

Tomorrow morning, before you go to work, before you check your phone or turn on the computer,

set aside 30 minutes and pray for God's guidance.

Read what Paul wrote and what we just read in Philippians 4:6-8.

Look up the meaning of the words he uses.

Words like noble, pure and excellent and then sit quietly and think about what Paul is teaching.

Just take 30 minutes at the start of the day to connect with God.

If you think you don't have the time to do this, then your schedule is part of the

reason for your anxieties.

Make the time—take something else out of your life and replace it with a personal relationship

with God Almighty.

Now just think about this: How many ads pop up on the computer?

Or shout at you from the television screen, or radio speakers?

That just 20 minutes a day can reshape your body, take away your wrinkles or help you

lose weight?

Now how many of these promises really work?

But starting each day by connecting to God for 30 minutes can actually change your life.

Make this the most important daily goal: begin each day with 30 minutes of prayer, Bible

study and meditation on what God is teaching you.

Then throughout the day when you are filled with anxious thoughts, return in prayer to

your meditation, what you learned from God's Word.

And take that and apply it to your life.

Now we deal with the spiritual side of anxiety by first seeking God in prayer and then replacing

obsessive thoughts by reading the Bible and taking time to think about what God is teaching

us about His purpose for our lives.

Remember too, at the end of the day, think about the good.

When you go to sleep thinking about all the bad in your life, you will wake up in the

morning thinking about all the bad in your life. 

A third point in dealing with the spiritual side of anxiety has to do with personal relationships.

Numerous studies have shown that people in their twenties and thirties are suffering

from an unusual amount of anxiety compared to their grandparents or parents when they

were young.

Now it's not that their grandparents and parents didn't face their share of anxious

events—the social upheavals of the 1960's, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the economic

downturn of the 1970's were all times of worry and fear.

The difference is in the cause of overwhelming anxiety in many younger people.

Psychology Today, in an article titled "Social Media, Loneliness, and Anxiety in Young People,"

reported that the "fear of missing out" and the barrage of information on social media

can not only cause anxiety, but actually causes feelings of loneliness and alienation.

In the last few years, there have been many disturbing accounts of teens and college students

who have had breakdowns or even commit suicide because they were so overwhelmed by trying

to live up to a false sense of self-worth measured by pictures of everyone else having

fun, always smiling, or the idea of popularity by the number of "friends" or "likes."

How could they get help or even seek help when everyone else seemed so problem free?

Studies show that social media overuse can affect physical health as well as school and

job performance.

Now listen to this startling paragraph from Psychology Today, "…just as with any other

forms of addiction, fear of not being able to use or access social networking sites causes

added distress—in this case caused by feelings of social exclusion...This is..."

Now listen to this: "This is a significant sign of addiction—for many of us, our social

media is often the first thing we check in the morning and the last thing we check before

going to sleep!

Social media such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter provide constant updates which can

turn a mere interest in social networks into an unhealthy, stressful, compulsion..."

(Psychology Today website, December 15, 2016).

We've been talking about this: obsessive thinking.

This means that to be spiritually and emotionally healthy, you must take time to disengage from

social media.

Listen to this, tomorrow morning when you get out of bed resist the urge to grab the

phone.

It's hard.

Instead, go to a quiet place and spend a half hour in prayer, Bible study and meditation.

There is nothing more important on Instagram or in your e-mail than the time you could

spend with the Creator of the universe!

Remember at night before you go to bed: shut down all media, make the mental list we talked

about of what you are thankful for that day, meditate and talk with God.

This can change your life!

Now we need to take a few minutes and talk about teenage addiction to social media.

The article in Psychology Today concludes this, "…social media such as Facebook

have become surrogates for seeking connectedness and as a consequence our connections grow

broader but shallower."

The result can actually create social anxiety—a feeling that you aren't really connected

to anyone.

The Bible is a book about relationships.

Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are to love God and love your neighbor.

When something as simple as e-mail, which gives us the ability to accomplish many tasks—we

all use e-mail everyday—but when it becomes emotionally addictive, it begins to denigrate

meaningful, healthy, face-to-face relationships.

So our third step in dealing with anxiety is to limit your time on social media and

spend more time in face-to-face talking and in activities with the people who really count

in your life.

Those who just click like, don't necessarily really count in your life.

Now at first this may not be easy.

Let's face it.

Many of us are somewhat addicted to social media.

Getting your children or grandchildren to spend a couple of days with the family in

a cabin, swimming, hiking and talking may at first cause an enormous amount of stress,

anxiety, even anger.

These are all behaviors of emotional withdrawal.

Social media can add a real benefit to life.

Social media is not evil.

It can be good.

But the problem is, is that when it's misused, it can lead to emotional addiction and causes

anxiety.

We're going to discuss controlling anxiety with the Beyond Today panel, but first let's

recap the three steps we've talked about today.

First: Seek God's help in prayer.

Seek God's help when you are overwhelmed with your emotions.

Two: Get control of your anxious thoughts.

This begins every morning when you take half an hour of quiet time to pray, read the Bible,

and think about what you're reading.

You can return to this experience throughout the day in prayer and meditation.

Then, at the end of the day, approach God with thankfulness for the good of that day.

And three: Limit your time on social media and spend more face-to-face time with the

people who really count in your life.

We're joined by Beyond Today presenters Steve Myers and Darris McNeely.

Welcome guys.

We've been talking about anxiety.

Why is it that so many people find it hard, especially Christians sometimes, to talk about

their anxieties?

[Darris] Well if you are a man Gary, men don't like to admit that there might be something

that they are weak in and that they are not in total control over.

So, I would expect that for many men, Christian or otherwise, believer or otherwise, that

is why there is that concern.

[Steve] And I think for anyone, you have to admit you fall short in some areas.

You have to admit that even though the Bible says I shouldn't be anxious, don't worry,

don't have a care, we still do, which means we've got to confront that.

We've got to look at our own lives and then come before God and admit it.

And so, sometimes that's the hardest thing is to admit you've got a problem.

[Gary] In fact, we'll never get better until we do.

You'll never deal with anxiety until you confront it and you accept it.

What are some of the ways that we can deal with anxiety in a Christian way?

[Steve] Well one of the things that the Bible is really clear on when it talks about anxiousness

and those worries, it says we are to take them to God.

That we've got to bring them before God.

That we make our supplications and prayer to God when we deal with our anxiousness.

And so, to do that—even like the instructions that you were giving—start our day that

way.

Give them over to God because there are things that we just can't handle ourselves.

And so, give them over to God.

He will take care of them.

He has promised to do that for us.

So it says, cast every care on Him.

So, tell Him about it.

Let Him know what the issues are that you're dealing with and He can help you through those

things.

[Darris] Gary you have given really the best prescription, for anyone regardless, to deal

with anxiety.

You've talked about prayer, taking it to God in prayer, talking to God.

There's something about confession.

It's not a biblical statement, but we've all heard confession is good for the soul.

And although the Bible does talk about confessing our sin, but it's in the action of talking

with God in prayer that we take that correct proper step toward getting a handle on a problem,

anxiety and beginning to work with it.

We're making a connection with God.

The second step that you talked about of reading the Bible and really literally versing our

thoughts into the Word of God and letting God's Word in a sense, wash over our own

thoughts and help us put some groves in our own thinking that are along righteous paths.

Those are two very critical things.

But at the end of all of that, the biggest step that we can take is to get up off our

knees, to close the Bible and to begin to take some positive steps to take control of

our life.

We have to do that.

If it's a man, we have to get our thoughts in line.

For a woman as well, it's a matter of taking those steps to take charge of our life.

And when we begin to do that, what we've learned as we've read the Word of God, as

we've talked with God begins to kick in.

But we've got to come to a point in our life where we take that step.

[Gary] You know, a lot of times I think people, they just want to talk about their anxieties.

And talking about them actually makes them worse, it doesn't solve anything.

There's a point where you talk them through…

[Darris] Yeah.

[Gary]..and there's a point you get out and you do something.

You face it.

[Steve] Yeah, you've got to.

I mean they say, talk is cheap.

So what are you doing?

We've got to put our faith into action.

So if we really believe the Bible, we believe in God, He says I am not going to leave you.

I am not going to forsake you.

So do we trust Him?

Do we absolutely put our faith in Him so we give Him our cares.

We hand that anxiety over to Him and we expect Him to work through us and in us so that we

can overcome those problems.

Because without walking in faith—we can't walk by sight, we have got to walk by faith.

Put it over in God's hands and He promises that He won't leave us.

He is going to help us through these things.

[Gary] When people come to me and talk about anxiety, one of the first things I do is I

take them to the Sermon on the Mount where Jesus talks about don't have anxious thoughts

because your Father knows what you need.

It's a great passage.

When people come to you to talk about anxiety, what biblical passage or example—where do

you take them to begin to discuss that?

[Steve] One of the ones that always comes to my mind is the example of Joshua.

Here is Joshua leading the children of Israel, the great leader Moses is dead.

Can you imagine the worry of coming into an unknown land and what's going to happen?

In fact, they have got giants and all kinds of major anxious problems there.

And yet, God says, be strong and courageous.

Be of good courage because God's with him.

And so, to remember that, even when we are facing the giants of life, God is with us.

And he is such a great example of that because he goes forward.

And it didn't matter what the odds are.

He knew God was on his side and was going to fight his battles for him.

[Darris] Probably for me, it's the story of Elijah, the great prophet of the Old Testament

who confronted the priests of Baal.

God had given him certain power.

He sealed up the heavens, no rain for three and a half years.

It was a time of great apostacy in Israel.

They were caught up in paganism and then on Mount Carmel, Elijah had this great confrontation

with the prophets of Baal and called down fire from heaven.

And they were literally all killed.

It was one of the dramatic scenes of the Old Testament.

Here was a man of God, powerful prophet, God worked in His life.

And then after that event, Jezebel the queen says, I am coming after you Elijah.

And he just melts and he runs.

And he runs as far as into the desert, into the wilderness, hides in a cave.

God confronts him and basically says come on out.

I am in charge.

I am in control here.

I've got this, is what God says.

We run too.

We get into a flight syndrome at times when we hit conflict, stress, anxiety.

And we want to run.

Even after we may have had some successes.

And we know that we are strong enough in other areas.

And it's, that story I think that helps me personally that I found to help other people

recognize that it's okay to recognize your weakness and to admit it, but don't run.

And realize that God is there.

God's got this and God can help.

[Gary] What's so great about that story too is how God shows up in a whirlwind and

He talks to him so gently.

[Darris] In a small voice.

[Gary] In a small voice.

[Darris] A still, small voice.

[Gary] So there's so many ways people can learn.

There are so many places they can go into the Scripture to realize we all have anxiety.

We all have dysfunctional emotions, but God can help us through this.

But we all do have to do something.

At the end of the day, we have to act.

As we've discussed throughout today's program, many people, including Christians,

suffer from anxiety.

Fortunately, there are steps we can take to deal with the spiritual side of anxiety in

a powerful and effective manner.

What better way to start off this list than with someone who was actually called crazy

by the people during her reign?

Joanna of Castile was the wife of Spain's King Philip I who was also known as "Philip

the Handsome".

Despite their marriage being an arranged one, Joanna fell deeply in love with her husband

and became a devoted wife and mother to their children and ruled as Queen of Castile and

Aragon in the 16th Century.

Unfortunately for Joanna, she fell into a deep melancholy and depression after Philip's

sudden death.

Stories have it that she would often visit her husband's tomb and ordered to have it

opened so that she could spend time with the deceased king – caressing and kissing his

corpse as if he were only asleep.

When her son Charles ascended the throne, he Joanna was sent to a nunnery to live out

the rest of her days in peace where her caretakers would claim that the mad Queen was convinced

that the nuns were trying to kill her.

CHARLES VI

Crowned as king of France in the late 14th Century and at the youthful age of 11, Charles

the Vi earned the name "Charles the Well-loved" by his subjects for being a good ruler that

is until insanity consumed him.

Later on called Charles the Mad by the same people who loved him, his madness grew worse

as he aged.

According to people in his court, Charles would fall to paranoia and agitation by just

the sound of a dropping spear especially when he was traveling.

His madness became even worse when he was reported to have murdered one of his own knights

and a few other people in his party.

Charles's condition only worsened after waking up from a coma.

Oftentimes he would forget the names of his children and his wife; he even would forget

his name and who he was.

What punctuated his madness before his death in 1422 was him spending the remaining days

of his life strongly believing that he was made completely out of glass.

8.

IBRAHIM I

The successor to Murad IV and one of the most famous Sultans of the Ottoman Empire, Ibrahim

I was not entirely the chosen successor to Murad IV's throne.

Murad IV even made an edict that Ibrahim I should be killed upon his own death.

Unfortunately, Ibrahim, I was allowed to live and rule because his subjects and even his

rivals did not see him as a threat due to his madness.

It was this oversight that allowed Ibrahim I to bring the Ottoman Empire dangerously

close to collapsing in a short amount of time.

He was also known for his predilections to morbidly obese women and ordered his men to

track down the largest woman they could find.

Eventually, somewhere in Armenia or Georgia, they found the Sultan the perfect candidate

who weighed over 300 pounds.

Ibrahim was said to be pleased with this that he called this woman his "Piece of Sugar"

and gave her a government pension alongside the title of Governor General of Damascus.

When he heard rumors that one of his concubines have been "compromised", he ordered the

execution of 280 members of his harem by drowning in the Bosporus Sea.

7.

FU SHENG

An Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, he only sat on the throne for two years but to his subjects,

it was an extremely long and dangerous two years of their lives.

His lunacy was underscored by his thirst for power and excessive amounts of drinking that

– according to records – took place even when he was making important decisions on

matters of state.

One of his first edicts, when he came into power, was banning the use of the words such

as "lacking", without", and "devoid"; a simple slip of the tongue is enough to send

anyone to the gallows.

Government officials were not spared his madness and bloodthirsty nature because, whenever

Fu Sheng just felt like it, he ordered their deaths.

Unfortunately for this Emperor, his madness has gained the ire of his family members who

took matters into their own hands and assassinated him.

EMPRESS ANNA

Made Empress in the 18th Century by the Supreme Privy Council of Russia, Anna ruled her vast

empire with ferocity mixed with her brand of crazy.

Believing that Anna would be in the debt of the Privy Council, they confidently brought

her to power unaware of the consequences of their decision.

Upon officially taking the throne, Anna restored the Secret Police to do anything she wishes

since she was in the full favor of the Royal Guard.

For the 10 years of her rule, she was able to torment and execute the same aristocrats

and nobility who had put her in power.

Her madness became evident when, in one story, she discovered that a young Russian prince's

mother was a Catholic.

Upon the mother's death, the young prince was arranged to be married to one of Anna's

maids.

The act may seem harmless at first glance except for the fact that Anna had ordered

a palace made out of ice constructed specially for the occasion.

Guests to the wedding were forced to come in clown costume as the ceremony took place

in one of Russia's harshest and deadliest winters it has ever seen in years.

NERO

The Roman Empire has no shortage of insane despots and Emperor Nero is among the infamous

if not the most infamous of unhinged Emperors.

His extreme hatred towards Christians is well-noted in the annals of history and the Great Fire

of Rome was supposedly executed under his orders to clear out the city of Christians

and make way for a new city-center as well as a shiny new palace.

He was, undoubtedly, bloodthirsty but his purge of the Christians and edifice complex

pales in comparison to the murder of his own mother, Agrippina, and his wives Poppaea Sabina

and Octavia.

4.

COMMODUS

Son of the revered and loved Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, Commodus was an apple that

fell miles away from the tree.

With an appetite for gladiatorial fights, Commodus proclaims that he was the incarnation

of the mythical hero Hercules.

Certainly with pretty large shoes to fill after the death of his father, Commodus proved

to be a failure as a leader in almost every way possible.

Where Marcus Aurelius was praised for his intelligence and resolve, Commodus was absolutely

despised by the people of Rome as well as his contemporaries.

His vanity and display of manliness, as well as his massive ego, did not fare well for

the Empire that he was expected to lead.

Instead, Commodus enjoyed jumping in the ring and participating in gladiatorial fights that

were rigged to his favor.

3.

VLAD THE IMPALER

History knows him well as Vlad Dracula and was the direct inspiration of Bram Stoker

to pen his classic Victorian novel.

Prince of Wallachia in Romania around the 15th Century, he was one of the fiercest opponents

of the Ottoman Empire who, at that time, were encroaching upon Europe.

His sadistic temperament earned him the nickname "Tepesh" or "The Impaler" by many

of his foes because of a particular way he enjoyed disposing of his enemies and critics.

In fact, dozens of legends surround the persona of Vlad Dracula that in one of them it was

believed that he had his own forest of impaled people where he would occasionally dine, drinking

their blood in a golden chalice and dipping his bread in it – a story that, perhaps,

originated the belief that he was a vampire himself.

In another story, when the disease broke out and infected hundreds in Wallachia, Vlad invited

the diseased as well as the impoverished to a banquet.

In the middle of the feast, the Prince quietly exited the banquet hall and ordered his men

to board the premises up and barricade all exits as soldiers set the place ablaze – a

way for him to clean his streets of the plague-ridden as well as the poor.

2.

IVAN THE TERRIBLE

Ivan IV was a long line of Russian Czars that brought stability to an otherwise chaotic

country in dark times.

However, despite being a strong-willed monarch, Ivan was prone to violent outbursts of anger

and madness.

After falling into a deep depression when his wife died in 1560, his paranoia and lunacy

got worse – convinced that the nobility and his boyars conspired to kill his wife.

He ruled Russia for the next 24 years.

His enemies and critics met brutal ends under his rule and the common people of Russia lived

in genuine terror due to the Czar's indiscriminate use of violence and torture to get his way.

Not even his bloodline managed to survive his madness.

In one historical account, Ivan had gotten angry at his eldest son.

Believing that he was being disrespected by his progeny and heir, he beat his son with

a 30-pound iron bar, crushing his skull and killing him instantly.

His two other sons fell in disfavor with fate: Ivan's middle child's mental health rapidly

declined and his youngest son died mysteriously at a young age.

CALIGULA

In the four years of his rule, Caligula brought blood and carnage throughout the Roman Empire.

Crowned as Emperor in 37 AD, the Roman aristocracy and public thought that they were out of the

shadows after the death of the equally demented Emperor Tiberius.

For the first 6 months of his reign, Caligula could not seem to be more popular.

After freeing prisoners who were unjustly caged by Tiberius and introducing revolutionary

reforms in government and society, things seemed to be promising.

That is until Caligula fell terribly ill.

Upon his recovery in October of the same year, his mind began to warp.

He began declaring himself as a living god and ordered the construction of a bridge from

his palace that directly led to the temple of Jupiter so that he may consult with the

deity.

He began to cross-dress and attempted to appoint his horse as a consul to the Roman Senate

– in other accounts, he tried to make his horse into a General of the Roman Army.

His detractors, political opponents, and critics faced harsh consequences for voicing out their

displeasure.

Executions almost became part of daily life under his reign up until he was assassinated

by a group of guardsmen

on January 24, 41 AD

Buckwheat Cannelloni | Vegan | Gluten Free - Duration: 7:47.

Hi guys! today we'll be making vegan buckwheat cannelloni. it's going to be gluten free

we will make it from scratch, and it will be way easier than you would expect it to

let's have a look at the ingredients

You'll need 300 grams of buckwheat flour + extra for dusting.

Some salt and pepper. Your favorite pasta sauce

300 grams of frozen spinach a cup of grated vegan cheese and a heaping cup of cashew cheese

And I need about 3/4 of a cup of water

And if you're using ricotta instead of cashew cheese,

you will need some garlic. If you're interested in how to make

cashew cheese just watch my previous video

I'll link it in the description box below

You can substitute this with ricotta cheese if you don't mind using dairy, and you can also use plain grated

Regular cheese or mozzarella. While the oven is heating up at 180 Celsius?

Let's make our cannelloni noodles

I'm going to use my food processor as I always do

we're going to dump our buckwheat flour in there. 300 grams going in

1 TSP of herbal salts you can of course use regular salt and here I have 3/4 of a cup of water

90% of which I'm adding now

and a little bit is left for later

So now I have a sticky sandy consistency

and now I will add a little bit more water

And blitz again

Now as you can see there's a dough ball which will form by itself and that means that my

pasta dough is ready we can transform it to a

dusted

surface, your workspace. And you can actually easily make this by hand

but it goes so much faster with the food processor and many people have these things at home and

Don't ever use them, so you can use them for practically everything. Let's dust our surface

I'm going to flatten this

Into a large something that resembles a pizza crust

Turn it over now get your rolling pin, and we can get rolling

Make sure that your

Surface stays dusted because this is a very sticky dough.

Now I'm going to go ahead and cut this in half

Set this bit apart a little bit of flour

Be very gentle with this dough

Some more dusting

And now we're going to try and get this even thinner

Because this dough is gluten free handle it really gently

because it will fall apart way easier than regular dough... there we go

This is about right

I'm going to go ahead and cut this in squares

Keep the peaces well dusted

We're going to pile them up and set them aside and do the exact same thing with the other house

It's quite important to keep your sheets as thin as possible, otherwise you have a overkill of dough in your cannelloni

And if you have left over dough you can make little pasta shells and just keep them in the fridge

to make fresh pasta you just roll a little ball like that and

Flatten it up with your fingers

They go for the filling. We're going to combine the spinach and catch your cheese

This contains salt and a lemon juice and garlic already if you're using

Ricotta you can add some garlic or chives and add some salt to taste

Spinach is defrosted. I'm going to squeeze out all of the water

And get rid of that

spinach in the bowl

add the cheese

And simply give it a mix

That's it easy peasy breezy! Now get our oven dish.

Olive oil

2 large ladles of

Your favorite pasta sauce I like to make huge batches of pasta sauce and use it for many dishes

And now we are ready to fill our cannelloni

spoon full of your filling

Roll it up

And now this is important you

Want to cut it off here otherwise if you roll it up all the way you will get a thicker

Layer of dough which is not really pleasant so

That's what we're going to do

In the sauce it goes

35 minutes later, we have a meal

The little ones are really hungry, so I'm going to keep it short

with the sandbag this is the ultimate sandbag that's what it's called what I

like about it is that it does have handles if you want to use your grip but

it also has flaps on the side that allow you to get a more troublesome grip or a

type of grip that will strengthen your grip strength the same way a

conventional sandbag will test interchangeable inside bags that you

fill up with your own sand and I really like it this exercise that I'm going to

show you is really good for rotational power the side that you're firing off of

it's going to fire up the glutes really improve your explosive capacity with the

glutes so the way they start is pick out your grip you can have these parallel

handles these over hand handles can also grab the flaps on the side that's what I

do flaps on the sides I want to work on the grip strength and you set it down on

the side of one of your feet so I can have my feet about shoulders distance

apart I reach down grab it being sure to use my hips and my legs I don't want to

be rounding the spine think about hinging the hips with a little bit of

hip rotation this is what the movements going to look like from the side from

there I take a breath in swing it up and back down

that down on the side looks like this inhale exhale inhale exhale inhale

exhale that's the diagonal swing with the sandbag do all of your reps on one

side and then switch over to the other side it's best for high reps

There are so many articles and information about introverts on the web.

The great thing about it is that it helps a lot of people realize their own introverted

tendencies.

Many introverts are beginning to understand why situations commonly perceived as problems

by many are, well, simply non-problems for them.

In this video, I'm going to show you 7 positives only introverts would understand.

Before we start, make sure to like this video and subscribe our channel so you won't miss

1.

They love cancelled parties.

Introverts love cancelled parties.

Okay, maybe love is too strong a word.

But an introvert really wouldn't mind if a big party he was invited to suddenly got

cancelled or postponed.

Partying with a big group of people for a long period of time zaps an introvert's

energy.

To expend less energy, introverts enjoy one-on-one conversations instead of group activities.

You may know someone who's dubbed as a "kill joy" because he wants to leave a party early.

Stop the name-calling and consider that maybe that person is just tired and needs to recharge

by spending some time by himself.

He could be an introvert.

2.

They're cool with shutting up.

Society has a funny perception of silence.

It's as if something is terribly wrong if someone just wants to sit quietly by himself.

Remember that there is such a thing as companionable silence.

It's when two people are so relaxed and comfortable with each other that no words

need to be spoken.

And there's solitude too, which is the creative's refuge.

Introverts like silence and solitude because it's during quiet times that many people,

not just introverts, produce billion-dollar ideas, relax their minds, and recharge their

bodies to face another day.

They get high (with energy) on being alone.

No invites on a Friday night?

No problem!

While most people would be horrified and perhaps acutely depressed at the thought of spending

the weekend minus social activities, your typical introvert is already getting started

on his reading or movie list.

That, or he's already out hiking, hanging out at a bookshop, gardening, or writing weird

poetry at the cafe.

But remember that being alone doesn't equate to loneliness.

The thing is, introverts need "alone time" for them to conserve their energy.

This doesn't mean that they're alone all the time.

Balance is key as Marti Olsen Laney explains in her book, The Introvert Advantage: How

to Thrive in an Extrovert World, "Introverts need to balance their alone time with outside

time, or they can lose other perspectives and connections."

4.

They're comfortable with eating alone.

Dining alone has such a bad reputation, doesn't it?

Heaven forbid you eat a meal without a living human body next to you!

For most introverts, solo dining is a relaxing experience and a good opportunity to truly

enjoy a meal in peace.

Bear in mind that introverts have a low threshold for stimulation and are easily distracted.

It's a good thing people are starting to realize the value of dining in peace, like

this restaurant.

5.

They just like to watch.

As funny as that may sound, they do.

Introverts are observant by nature.

They're the quiet ones who prefer to sit at the sidelines and observe those around

them.

And no, they're not judging people when they do this.

This also doesn't mean that introverts are wallflowers.

They can talk your ear off if the topic is something they're passionate or know a lot

about.

They simply don't feel the need nor have the energy to be social butterflies.

As Susan Cain puts it, "We're not anti-social; we're just differently social."

6.

They have few friends.

More than anyone else, introverts are masters at prioritizing quality over quantity, especially

when it comes to friends.

They form fewer but deeper relationships with people.

Amazingly though, many introverts thrive in the online world.

Perhaps because online communication and networking gives them more time to think and reflect

about how to express their responses as compared to real-world conversations.

7.

They take it slow.

Most of the time, taking things slow is seen as a weakness and the ability to "think

on your feet" is favored over the ability to reflect.

But introverts prefer to do things little by little and think carefully before making

big decisions.

The innate gifts of slowing down and tuning into their inner world and reflecting on experiences

and situations allow them to better understand other people and empathize.

Introverts are good at unsettling extroverts without even trying.

They can appear mysterious and don't show much reaction or facial expression.

So take the time to get to know someone and learn what makes them tick.

Do this especially when your personality leans toward extroversion.

Pretty soon these positives may hold true for you as well.

That is exactly what has happened in the wake of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Right-wing evangelicals immediately jumped on Hurricane Harvey, where they said ... This

is minister Kevin Swanson, who said that Houston had sinned by having a very, very aggressively

pro-homosexual mayor.

Here's the exact quote.

"Jesus sends the message home.

Unless Americans repent, unless Houston repents, unless New Orleans repents," because they've

got to throw in Katrina, "they will all likewise perish."

According to this guy, Kevin Swanson, a right-wing evangelical, it's because of gay people, because

politicians might be nice to gay people, that they have the audacity to treat them as equal

to other human beings, God says, "You know what?

I'm going to send a storm your way to prove you wrong."

Ann Coulter, the right-wing pundit slash author, decided to jump in the fray as well.

She said, "I don't think that God sent a hurricane because the mayor supports gay people, but

I do think that's more plausible than believing in climate change."

Ann Coulter got her little dig in there, saying, "I don't actually believe it, but I do believe

it, and of course climate change is a hoax."

Every available piece of scientific evidence right now talks about the fact that climate

change is what made these hurricanes so strong, what made the damage so catastrophic.

These idiots on the right, and that is exactly what they are, think that it's because of

gay people.

If God hates a certain group of people, pretty sure it's not going to be the gays.

It's probably going to be the people that showed up in Charlottesville and killed someone

out of hate.

It's probably going to be the politicians who pass legislation to benefit the people

who already have enough and takes everything away from the people who are struggling to

get by and don't have enough food to feed their families, or have Republicans not actually

read the Bible?

Because literally every policy these idiots have goes against what is in the teaching

of the New Testament.

Everything could not be further apart, and yet they have the audacity to say that God

created these hurricanes because He's mad at gay people and the people who treat gay

people like people.

This is why we can't make progress here in the United States, folks.

It's because of people like Ann Coulter.

It's because of the religious right, because of their backwards, illogical, and completely

fabricated religious views that should have no bearing on United States politics whatsoever,

and yet they do somehow.

We need to act on climate change.

We need to start treating other human beings like people.

Those shouldn't be political sides of an argument.

That should be basic common sense.

It is pretty much everywhere else in the industrialized world, but here in the United States, we find

a way to politicize everything, including how we treat fellow human beings and what

to do about the fact that our constant emissions, that our reliance on fossil fuels is literally

starting to kill people in this country because we refuse, as a party, as the Republican Party,

to accept the link between global emissions and catastrophic climate change.

They are holding us back, and until those people either shut up or go away or retire,

we will never be able to make the progress that we need as a country on so many issues,

because they're always going to be there to hold us back.

with the sandbag this is the ultimate sandbag that's what it's called what I

like about it is that it does have handles if you want to use your grip but

it also has flaps on the side that allow you to get a more troublesome grip or a

type of grip that will strengthen your grip strength the same way a

conventional sandbag will test interchangeable inside bags that you

fill up with your own sand and I really like it this exercise that I'm going to

show you is really good for rotational power the side that you're firing off of

it's going to fire up the glutes really improve your explosive capacity with the

glutes so the way they start is pick out your grip you can have these parallel

handles these over hand handles can also grab the flaps on the side that's what I

do flaps on the sides I want to work on the grip strength and you set it down on

the side of one of your feet so I can have my feet about shoulders distance

apart I reach down grab it being sure to use my hips and my legs I don't want to

be rounding the spine think about hinging the hips with a little bit of

hip rotation this is what the movements going to look like from the side from

there I take a breath in swing it up and back down

that down on the side looks like this inhale exhale inhale exhale inhale

exhale that's the diagonal swing with the sandbag do all of your reps on one

side and then switch over to the other side it's best for high reps

Faber interview in a moment just want to say first of all thank you for watching

and also I want to apologize ahead of time for the poor audio quality I know

the audio quality is not good there wasn't really much I can do about it but

I'll still take the blame for that okay so sorry about the audio quality but I

don't know what it is when I interviewed Jim Rogers a couple of weeks ago but

he's in Asia and I'm in the United States and the Skype audio quality just

wasn't that good for some reason and then also with this interview with dr.

Marc Faber again he's in Asia and so again somehow the audio quality maybe

it's Skype I don't know but just the audio audio quality is not that good it

might be hard to hear sometimes but I think you'll get the idea anyway I'm

really lucky very fortunate to have had the opportunity to speak with dr. doom

himself dr. Marc Faber okay and a couple of interesting observations and then

we'll get started with the interview is that first of all I asked you'll see

that I asked dr. Faber whether he agrees with Jim Rogers about because Jim Rogers

stated the opinion that the next economic downturn in the United States

would be the worst one we've ever seen in our lifetimes and I asked dr. doom

dr. Mark Weber about that and he actually disagrees with that because I

seen such bad economic downturns in his lifetime that he doesn't imagine the

next one in the United States could possibly be worse than that or is likely

to be worse than that at least also another interesting point when I asked

dr. Faber about crypto currencies which have gone up a lot maybe I should not be

surprised since he is known as Doctor Doom but he dr. Faber

you know expressed the opinion to me that he believed

that when you know cryptocurrency is finally do go down in a significant way

that it's going to be really bad alright so I thought that was pretty interesting

because you know compare that compare that to Jim Rogers who seems a little

bit more optimistic perhaps about crypto currencies in the future but I'll let

you decide okay now I want to let them speak for themselves you know I want to

speak for anybody so thank you for turning for tuning in and again sorry

right to the point I recently spoke with a number of individuals such as Greg men

US equities are we have not had a correction of 10 percent or more in a

year and a half and we've not had a really meaningful pullback since 2009 is

this sustainable and and what is the end scenario here

well it's really not sustainable this is in the u.s. within the market that has

been eternity Bureau got individual shares they had taken a lot of stocks

are actually now already 20 30 percent from the highs or lots of stocks are no

higher than they were years ago in 2015 so it hasn't been a market will increase

top has gone up but the index dsm-v that rate has been very strong no

question about this at the quest more than 50% of shares are below the

50-day moving average and they are only about 60% of shares that are above the

200-day moving average in other words a lot of share participating and Roger

will get the correction at some point more likely will get the bear market at

some point meaning that you haven't acquired on for the 20%

yeah and for example Jim Rogers recently told me that when this does happen this

bear market it's going to be the worst one we've seen in our lifetime would you

agree with that sir speaking of quite bad I'm sure you

realize that the US dollar has been getting pounded this year so far

it just seems never-ending do you believe that the US dollar is going to

be worthless

I sure wanted to talk about gloom boom doom calm that is the website that

and will they get specific market recommendations

well maybe they have reports that gets printed and sent out by mail because

very large financial institutions and quick little seek people's concerns very

this also has geopolitical considerations and macroeconomic

consideration other report the monthly website report which may be more Heuer

listeners is a more market-oriented newsletter because the views are the

same that the other reporter can say the movement news report PI X I said the

other report selling the basic strategies and recommendations are

similar or the same the website report is the more timely oriented Rico are you

as excited the period in situations on the long side right understood are

you as excited about crypto currencies as many of my listeners are you know it

seems like young people have really caught on to Bitcoin and altcoins but I

into what is your outlook on crypto currencies please

I don't think that people really mind cryptocurrencies because they want an

caller in crypto currencies the markets or anywhere else so I wanted to ask a

slightly personal question are you currently a stacker or collector of

physical precious metals and why I have acquired physical precious metals

every month some and occasionally when I think that finding is good an increase

in my position so I have very large holdings of physical gold and some

physical silver as well as platinum but it's not the question that I'm now long

gold and I wasn't long ago the week ago i believer that you should hold some

physical gold and whether you should hide today or sweep it I don't know I

don't care about these things that is what we own some physical precious

metals the way I have real estate behind and sell the real estate today my iron
