What happens when a government gives their citizens free money?
And - if it's coming from the government - is it really free?
l Hey guys, I'm Alex, this is NowThis World,
and on this episode, we're talking about Universal Basic Income, what it is, and why
it's becoming a popular subject of debate.
Following recent news that Finland opted out of continuing its UBI pilot program beyond
2018, economists are questioning the sustainability of the controversial model.
We're taking a look at local and national governments around the world that have given
it a shot - and diving into the question: could a universal basic income work for the
U.S.?
First - let's break it down.
Though it comes in different shapes and sizes, universal basic income is an economic concept
in which everyone gets an equal amount of money from the government, every month, no
strings attached.
So whether you're unemployed or working, low-income or in the 1%, the same check will
always come.
And nobody will tell you how to spend it.
Supporters say the idea is that providing folks with a security net won't encourage
them to stop working, but actually give them the freedom to pursue work they're really
interested in, and restore economic security.
Some liberal proponents argue that increasing taxes on corporations and the wealthy to help
support a universal income could be a positive way to help out low-income communities, while
some conservative supporters like the idea that a successful UBI could replace what they
deem as costly and ineffective social services like food stamps, job training, Medicaid,
and more.
The idea has gained steam in recentyears, with 48% of Americans supporting a universal
basic income program as of 2017, a number which, according to economist Karl Widerquist,
has skyrocketed up from 12% just 10 years ago.
But it's not a new concept.
As far back as 1516, philosopher Thomas More proposed a similar idea in his book Utopia.
In a 1792 pamphlet, founding father Thomas Paine proposed a basic income for "every
person, rich or poor."
And 20th century leaders from Milton Friedman to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., spoke out about
the potential for a basic income to help different communities out of poverty.
And under President Nixon, a plan nearly passed to establish a guaranteed minimum income in
the early '70s.
Fast forward to today, and the concept is the subject of books, documentaries, and countless
academic panels.
It's got big-name backers from Elon Musk, to Mark Zuckerberg, to Senator Bernie Sanders,
who said he's "sympathetic" to the approach.
Countries around the world have piloted versions of the UBI experiment including Kenya, Canada,
Finland, the Netherlands, and Spain, with proposed versions in places like India and
Scotland.
It's even been tested in a few U.S. cities - but, would it be a viable option for the
American economy?
Let's look at the pros and cons.
We asked UBI expert and advocate Sandhya Anantharaman for her take on why some feel the concept
is gaining steam.
Poverty is exhausting, and financial stress is exhausting, and it really limits the time
and space mentally that you have to work on great ideas.
So the idea is that, for people who are struggling to make rent payments, buy groceries, and
support their families, the stress can be overwhelming - and flat-out tiring.
But having a security net - of, say, $1000 per month, could clear up people's time
that they'd ordinarily spend stressing about where their next meal will come from, and
spend more time job-searching, volunteering, or participating in the economy.
Some participants in Finland's pilot program, which will run through the end of 2018, are
already reporting that their stress levels have decreased.
And while many critics argue that free cash would disincentivize work, supporters say
there's some evidence to the contrary.
In the 1960s we did a number of experiments around the country in different states to
test the impact of unconditional cash on work.
So essentially, do people work fewer hours or work for less money when you give them
unconditional support?
In a paper done by the Roosevelt Institute last year, they reexamined these experiments
and saw that there was essentially no reduction in work hours, so when you gave people unconditional
cash, you didn't see a decrease in the hours worked, instead folks just took the opportunity
to enjoy the stability that they had.
When we looked into the data Anantharaman references , it did indicate that some programs
resulted in "a slight reduction in work and earnings," but also ultimately showed
that the experiments didn't result in the average worker leaving the labor force.
Of course, data from a few small experiments in the '60s isn't a perfect predictor
of what would happen in the U.S. economy today.
But another recent study by the Roosevelt Institute showed that the economy could stand
to gain trillions of dollars if UBI were to be successfully implemented.
Others argue that UBI is a good solution to the growing fear that automation will swallow
jobs and lead to mass unemployment.
Study results vary widely on how much of a threat automation actually is to the workforce.
Whatever the truth, the risk certainly feels real to some Americans.
Two-third of them think robots and computer will do "much of the work done by humans"
within 50 years, according to a 2016 Pew study.
There have been other positive from similar pilot programs in other parts of the world,
too, including one in Dauphin, Canada.
So you saw kids, particularly young boys, stay in school longer, thanks to the cash
that their families had, because that means they didn't have to drop and get jobs, they
could stay in school.
You saw young mothers take more time off, particularly women who had just given birth
took time off to spend with their kids.
You also saw health outcomes go up.
You saw incidents of hospitalizations went down, you saw mental health go up.
And in Western Kenya - early results based on interviews with participants of the 12-year
pilot program showed reduced conflict and poverty.
And advocates of universal basic income in the U.S. argue it could actually build bipartisan
support , with a program that would both reduce social welfare programs and tax the wealthy.
Of course, critics of the concept argue there are many reasons UBI wouldn't work in the
U.S.
The left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities suggests that even a cautious approach
to UBI would likely increase poverty rather than decrease it.
Their report shows that a monthly $900 for each American would cost about $3 trillion
annually.
Even if we just take into account the net cost of UBI rather than the gross, it's
still a huge cost - and would Americans really go for a major tax increase?
Some critics of the program also take issue with the fact that, unlike other social welfare
programs, UBI wouldn't specifically help low-income communities.
The same monthly check would arrive at Bill Gates' doorstsep as the average American.
And many argue creating something like a UBI would inevitably lead to the government having
to slash other social welfare programs.
And finally, another critique is that UBI could disincentivize work - critics argue
that people wouldn't feel the need to work or keep a job if they're receiving a free
check.
Most data we examined from pilot programs - both in the states and abroad - showed that
people generally kept working.
In some instances, part-time work even increased.
But some experts say that might only be the case if the cash subsidy is enough for people
to live on.
One thing critics and opponents agree on is that funding this program will come with one
heck of a price tag.

How to stop politics from controlling your emotions | Tim Snyder - Duration: 7:39.
History is actually the one thing I think which allows you to get out ahead.
It's very ironic, because when people think about history they think, "Well, history
means that things are going on in the world and a historian is off reading dusty books,"
which, fair enough, I would love to be reading lots of dusty books right now.
I will concede the point.
But when you've read all those dusty books, what happens is that you have the ability
to see certain patterns, you have a sense of what fits together and what doesn't fit
together.
Isaiah Berlin wrote an essay on the possibility of the scientific history, in which he said
that "history is not about knowing what happens, it's about knowing what can't
happen."
That is extremely useful.
So a historian will never look at a problem and say, "This is entirely new," a historian
will look at a problem and try to find the familiar aspects of it.
And that's a very big advantage over other forms of analysis, because if you look at
something and say that it's totally new, that disables the mind right away, it also
tends to disable, I think, political action.
Because if something is totally new it's very easy to take the next step and say, "Well
if it's totally new then what can I do about it?"
Or you can say, "Since it's totally new all things are permitted," which can also
lead you in some really unproductive direction.
So the first thing the historian will do is we'll say, "Whatever this problem is,
it's not entirely new."
When a historian is confronted by something very surprising like the 2016 campaign in
the United States, the historian is likely to say, "Well, the things that this candidate
is saying aren't true, but the possibility this kind of campaign could work is a real
possibility."
So the historian is freed from, or should be freed from the conviction of the day, and
the historian automatically looks back to other moments where similar things like this
coalesced.
So for example, we're in a second globalization.
There was a first globalization in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The second globalization began, our globalization began, with all kinds of promises that technology
and export-lead growth would lead to enlightenment and liberalism—the first globalization did
too.
The first globalization crashed.
It crashed into the first World War, the Great Depression, the second World War, Stalinism,
the Holocaust.
A historian looking at today won't think "Well that whole pattern is going to repeat
itself," but the historian looking at it today can say, "Yeah, a politician who says
that globalization is a problem not a solution, a politician who says that globalization is
a matter of particular people plotting against us as opposed to objective threats to the
country or objective problems, that kind of politician has a chance.
That can work.
Things like that have worked before."
And once you see that it can come together that way, it's not that you're sure, it's
not that you predict it (although I have made some predictions that were right), but it's
more that you can see it coming together, and then that allows you to get out ahead,
and you can think, "Okay, well, if this is going to come together this way then I
can also steal from the past people's correct reactions to it or people's wise reactions
to it.
I can use those things from the failure of the first of globalization, I can just borrow
them, I can now extract them and put them in the 21st century," which is what I did
in On Tyranny.
So rather than saying, "Okay I'm going to wait" – because by the time the pattern
actually coalesces it's too late!
You have to see that the pattern might be coalescing and then start messing with the
pattern, that the way that you see in coalescing comes from history, and the tools that you
use to start messing with it also come from history.
So in that way, ironically, history can allow you to get out ahead of something, whereas
the journalists naturally have to describe that—that's their job.
The social scientists they're going to wait to categorize it, and they're kind of trapped.
I mean another irony is that historians are comfortable with novelty, because we know
things change all the time.
When your perspective is a thousand years or even a hundred years, you know stuff changes.
You know there are turning points.
And you know that the stuff which people thought was unbelievable yesterday will not only be
believable but will even seem normal today.
Any historian can see that.
So that gives us a certain edge I think.
The second thing that a historian will do is that a historian will be skeptical about
sources.
So if you say "the problem is X", a historian will instantly cock his or her head and think,
"Okay well, this person says the problem is X, but let's cast our minds out immediately
to try to think of what the other 15 relevant perspectives on this problem are.
Is it actually a problem?
Maybe it's something which is desirable from certain points of view."
So that's a methodological reflex that, whatever your first person perspective is,
that's not the truth for me.
The truth automatically has to come from comparing your perspective to a whole bunch of other
perspectives.
And that's useful also because it can preserve the dynamism and the urgency of something
while taking some of the subjective spin from it.
So ideally a historian or a historically-trained person is less likely to be played by the
presentation of a problem and more likely to skeptically figure out what its contours
are.
And the third advantage that historians have, and maybe this is the one which I find to
be most relevant in the present, is that historians see time as a flow or as something which is
continuous.
And this is incredibly important now, because the way that the news cycle works or the way
that what I call the "politics of eternity" works is that you get your brain bludgeoned
every day by the emotions of the moment as transmitted by very skilled political actors
through very efficient media, and the result is that it's so easy to either be elated
or outraged every day and to experience the day as a kind of complete unit—where you
wake up, you're shocked, you're outraged, and then by the end of the day you're dissipated,
you're exhausted, and then you just begin this cycle again.
Historians don't believe in cycles, or at least good historians don't believe in cycles.
Historians think that there are long-term patterns; however exciting or however exhausting
or however terrifying the thing is today, it's part of some longer sweep.
So to give an extreme example, even nuclear war—so in the last few months the subject
of nuclear war has come up from all kinds of directions.
Even nuclear war has a history.
There's only been one, and that was in 1945, and there have been a lot of moments where
it was likely or less likely (like Cuba).
So even something which is dramatic and which is, as it were, designed to shock you out
of thinking in time, even that can be put in some kind of context.
In other words the weapons that are designed to get you to stop thinking, like "Let's
be afraid of the foreigners" or "let's be afraid of nuclear war," if you think
about those threats over time as part as some kind of larger flow you're less likely to
be disabled, and you're more likely to distinguish the rhetoric from what might actually be the
risk.

Is Liberal Outrage Helping Trump? | The Daily Show - Duration: 4:12.
All week
the big story has been about liberal activists
confronting Trump and his senior officials
over his immigration policies.
But according to some,
this anger is just playing straight
into Trump's enormously small hands.
This is the kind of behavior
that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
And they say if you're going to attack a president like this
and the... and the people who work for him,
I'm simply going to vote against you.
REPORTER: This may help the Republicans not lose the House.
The more that the-the critics get enraged,
the more they drive people towards President Trump.
It's a complete gift to Donald Trump.
It is helping Donald Trump.
If the Democrats and people on the political left
keep that stuff up,
he gets... it's a slam dunk for Trump.
"Slam dunk for Trump." Wow.
That's a phrase I never thought I'd hear.
The physics just don't seem possible, you know?
But, still, the question is, does liberal outrage at Trump
only drive more people to his side?
Well, for answers, we turn
to our senior civility correspondent,
-Michael Kosta, everybody! -(cheering and applause)
Michael, this is...
this is... this is really confusing.
Well, I know it seems confusing, Trevor,
but those pundits are absolutely right.
It's like when my girlfriend kept accusing me
of wanting to sleep with Karen, you know?
She brought it up so much that, eventually, I slept with Karen.
Again. I had already slept with... I'm not a great person.
I'm just making the point.
Wait, wait, what is the point again?
The point is, like my girlfriend,
all the liberal screaming and shouting
annoys people so much it makes them vote for Trump.
Well, but, wait, isn't there a double standard here, Michael?
I mean, like, the president's supporters want civility,
but he's out there calling people bitches
and-and saying that some women are too ugly to assault.
He's just telling it how it is.
I mean, sorry if it triggers you, but it's funny.
Okay, but then Robert De Niro saying "(bleep) Trump"
at the Tony Awards?
That's crude, okay?
That is crude and disgusting.
If George Washington saw what's become of the Tony Awards,
Trevor, I'm just glad he's dead.
Well, I-I... Here's the thing. I guess I just don't understand
how people could be more offended at language
than policies. You know, like how conservatives flipped out
when Peter Fonda tweeted that Trump's children
should be locked in a cage.
And-and how dare he, Trevor?
How dare Peter Fonda,
the star of Ulee's Gold,
the 123rd top-grossing movie of 1997,
a man with that kind of power,
say the president's child should be locked up?
Yeah, but the president is actually locking up children
-right now. -Uh, yeah. So what?
Sometimes you got to lock kids up.
But to threaten to lock kids up,
I just thank God Abraham Lincoln was shot to death
before he read that tweet.
Okay, but-but just so we're clear,
this is the same side that cheered on Corey Lewandowski
when he mocked a girl with Down syndrome
being taken away from her parents.
Do you even have jokes in Africa, Trevor?
Lewandowski wasn't mocking the girl--
he was mocking people who think a girl with Down syndrome
being separated from her family is sad.
But it is sad.
If you don't think that, you're heartless.
Oh, really, Trevor? You're calling Trump voters heartless?
Guess what, they just got ten more Trump votes right there.
Wait, wait, I just got him ten more votes?
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Oh, and now they're stupid, too?
Now those ten people are definitely voting for Trump.
Didn't you just say that they were already voting for Trump?
(stammers) They might have forgotten.
Those people are kind of stupid.
So, so, let me get this straight.
If liberals criticize Trump, he'll get more votes.
But if they don't do anything, then he wins anyway.
So how can they win the situation?
Don't ask me. I mean, I had a girlfriend and Karen,
and now they've both kicked me out, you know?
I'm just glad Ronald Reagan is too dead to see
this proud American reduced to sleeping in the office
-of his African boss. -Wait, wait...
Wait, you're sleeping in my office?
That's Trevor Noah, everybody!

How The U.S. Is Outsourcing Border Enforcement To Mexico - Duration: 9:25.
The U.S. is pushing Mexico to get tougher on its southern border, with dangerous consequences.
The U.S. pushed Mexico to do its dirty job of keeping people from reaching our border
and trying to request protection here.
There's been a lot of focus on the Trump administration's immigration policy.
The Trump administration has been lying about this policy and downplaying the deliberate child abuse.
At its capacity, this place could house up to 4,000 children.
And if children get caught up in the fallout of that, according to the attorney general, so be it.
And despite President Trump's claims,
They flow right through Mexico, they send them into the United States.
Mexico actually deports more Central American people than the U.S. does, and has done so since 2015.
The fact that there was a lot of pressure on Mexico to do something that they probably weren't equipped to do,
really is concerning in terms of what this has meant for a very vulnerable population
of Central American migrants mostly, who have been fleeing their homes seeking protection
in the past few years.
Hi guys, I'm Daniel and this Sunday we're going to be talking about the other Mexican border
and how the U.S. is supporting Mexico's efforts to control immigration from Central America.
Those are just a few of the reasons people along Mexico's border with Guatemala
told us why they decided to leave home.
However, most refugees and migrants will never make it to the U.S. border.
That's because starting in 2014 there was a dramatic jump in the number of them arrested in Mexico.
To understand why there's been this increase in arrests, we need to talk about Programa Frontera Sur,
or as it's known in English, the Southern Border Plan.
Frontera Sur is the Mexican government's program to step-up immigration enforcement,
particularly in southern Mexico.
It was announced in July 2014 by Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto after tens of thousands of children
fleeing violence arrived at the U.S. border.
President Obama declared it a humanitarian crisis.
And earlier this week, Mexico announced a series of steps that they're going to take on their southern border
to help stem the tide of these unaccompanied children.
Obama, by the way, has been called "deporter-in-chief" by undocumented immigrant advocacy groups.
Maureen Meyer at WOLA, the Washington Office of Latin America, says
that while Mexico was already arresting Central American refugees and migrants prior to Frontera Sur,
this was significant because it was a conscious decision by Mexico to work more closely with the U.S.
Lots of phone calls were made and requests made from the United States to Mexico saying,
"You need to help us address the Central American migration" and really pressuring Mexico
to step up enforcement as a way to reduce the number of Central Americans reaching the U.S. border.
Initially, Peña Nieto said that part of Frontera Sur would promote and protect migrant rights.
I think if that was the aim, it's failed miserably.
If the objective was more to detain and deport Central Americans and others, then they've had a lot of success.
A quick look at the nature of U.S. involvement might give you an idea of what's shaped the policies of Frontera Sur.
WOLA says that since 2014 there's probably been $200 million allocated to Mexico for southern border security.
Now, what this looks like on the ground is funding for setting up communications towers
along the border that enable Mexico security agencies and the immigration agency to better communicate,
to improved biometric equipment for Mexico's immigration agency,
so you know who's going through your detention centers and the ports of entry.
WOLA even found that ICE, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency,
maintains a presence at a detention center in Tapachula, Mexico that houses children.
Besides sending those fleeing violence back into potentially dangerous situations in their home countries,
Frontera Sur may actually be putting them more at risk on their journey.
Just listen to some of their stories.
The crackdown has pushed travellers into more remote, more dangerous parts of the country
-- a country that's getting more unsafe for everybody.
Mexico's population is a little over one-third of the United States'
and in 2017 there was a record 29,000 homicides in Mexico, the highest number since
the country's modern record-keeping began.
That means in Mexico for every 100,000 people,
more than 20 of them were murdered.
In the U.S. that number was closer to just five,
meaning Mexico's murder rate is nearly four times higher.
Crimes and abuses against people travelling through Mexico continue at an alarming rate,
and according to WOLA, shelters have noted a more intense degree of violence in the reported cases.
And there have been reports of alleged verbal and physical abuse by Mexican officials,
even using Taser guns to threaten and control them.
Migrants are frequently kidnapped, extorted, robbed.
Often women are sexually assaulted both by criminal organizations,
but sometimes in collusion with Mexican officials.
And we have not seen any significant effort by Mexican authorities to curtail those abuses.
The U.S. may have played a larger role in making Mexico more dangerous.
Diego Lorente says the policy of dealing with migration as an issue of national security
actually goes pretty far back.
This focus on security began after the 9/11 attacks,
when former Mexican President Vicente Fox and then U.S. President George W. Bush decided to cooperate
more closely on matters of national security.
Mexico established Plan South, a system of police and
military surveillance. It also started deferring to the U.S.
on issues relating to the southern border.
Then in 2007 came the Mérida Initiative.
The U.S. signed on to support the purchase of military equipment and training
as part of Mexico's newly declared war on drugs.
Under Mérida, the U.S. has allocated over $2 billion in aid to Mexico in the past decade.
And $100 million of that has gone to Mexico's National Institute of Migration since 2014.
Mérida is highly controversial. Critics say it has only made the situation worse.
The strategy coincided with the militarization of public security in Mexico,
in part stemming from an enormous increase in firearm sales from the U.S.
WOLA and human rights organizations have even gone so far as to call on the U.S. to withhold aid from Mexico
because they're concerned about the human rights situation.
It's a very dangerous situation where Mexico's in right now because you have military in roles that don't
correspond to them, and a lot of times leads to abuses against the civilian population or others that they
encounter with very weak accountability mechanisms, so really weak efforts to investigate any soldier involved
in crimes or human rights violations against their population.
And there's another way the U.S. has contributed to this crisis.
Many of the reasons Central Americans are fleeing their home countries stem from decades of U.S. intervention.
Take, for example, the wars in El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua in the 1980s.
The U.S. spent billions funding these wars in an effort to stop the spread of communism
– and the effects are still felt today.
Gangs like MS-13 were made in the U.S.A. They were actually started by
Central Americams who fled U.S.-sponsored civil wars in the 1980s.
In the 90s, President Bill Clinton's policy made it easier for people to be deported,
which sent these gangs back to Central America.
Today, countries like El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras are among the most violent in the world.
I'm actually Salvadoran-American.
And my family fled the war in El Salvador in the 1980s.
What other stories about Central America should we cover?

Rapunzel! A Tangled Tale! Babyteeth4 Mini Movie - Duration: 10:36.
Once upon a time there was a
beautiful young girl named Rapunzel
Hi I'm Rapunzel
Rapunzel had the longest hair in the land
But Rapunzel was kept locked away
in a tower by an evil witch
Hehehe I'm the evil witch
Rapunzel's only connection to the outside world was a window
Every day the with would yell up to the window
Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair
Then Rapunzel would throw her hair down to the witch
Then the witch would climb up
The with would go into Rapunzel's window
So how did Rapunzel become the prisoner of the witch?
My parents made some bad decisions.
My dad had an unhealthy obsession with a plant called Rapunzel.
This Rapunzel is so good!
I would do anything for more of this Rapunzel!
One day, when he had eaten
all of his Rapunzel, he noticed there was some growing in
the neighbor's garden.
Oh man, I sure need some more Rapunzel.
Whoa!
That's all the Rapunzel I'll ever need!
And so he began steal Rapunzel from the garden
not knowing it belonged to an evil witch.
I have no idea this belongs to an evil witch!
But one day the evil witch caught him taking
her Rapunzel. "Hey! stop taking my Rapunzel
I didn't do it.
I shall tell the king and have you locked away in a dungeon!
Oh please not the dungeon. I'll do anything to stay out of the dungeon!
Perhaps we can arrange a deal.
You may continue taking all the Rapunzel you want.
but in return you must give me your first-born child.
But my father was foolish and thought he could trick the witch.
First-born child, eh? I'm not even married yet.
Oh sure, yeah!
That sounds like a good deal.
First-born child in exchange for Rapunzel , let's do it!
And so the pact has been made! HAHAHA!
And so my father kept eating Rapunzel
never realizing that soon he would marry
and his wife would have a child.
Then one day a baby was born: me.
Oh little one, I shall call you Rapunzel after
the plants I stole from the neighbor's garden.
My deal with the witch!
The first born!
Oh no!
And sure enough
one day the witch came to take me away
You don't want to go to the dungeon, do you?
Now the baby is mine! hahaha!
Surely she has many powers after her
parents ate all that Rapunzel. I will lock
her in the tower to nobody can get her.
Man, I sure could use some more Rapunzel right now.
And so Rapunzel remained locked in the tower
for years and years with only the witch for company.
she was very unhappy. "I'm so unhappy."
Little did she know a handsome prince was watching the with come and go every
day.
Hmm, I spy a fair maiden in the window above.
and so one day, the prince called out:
Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair.
Sure enough, Rapunzel threw down her hair.
And so the prince climbed up Rapunzel's hair.
Rapunzel backed away, frightened.
She had never seen a prince before. "Who are you?"
I'm the prince.
I've never had a visitor besides the old witch that has kept me here all these years.
Hmm, that's a shame. What is thy name?
My name is Rapunzel after the plant that grow's in the witch's garden.
Well Rapunzel I have a feeling that we're going to get to know each other very well.
I should like that very much, for thine is very handsome.
Yes, I know, I know.
And so every day, the
prince would come to the castle
call out to Rapunzel and she would pull him up
and they would talk all day.
Hey baby this has been going on for weeks,
let's say we go out on a real date.
I can never leave the tower.
Next time I'm gonna bring a rope,
we'll go out on the town. That old witch will never know
And so Rapunzel was very excited
and she began putting on makeup to get ready for her big date.
Why fore art thou putting on makeup?
Is thou going out on a big date?
Oh yes, I'm so excited--
Aha! I thought I heard voices other than
thou in the tower. Who has been visiting ye?
Well, he's a prince, and his name's Paco and--
A prince?
Ye has violated my trust. I shall cast
ye out into the wilderness forever!
Oh no, not the wilderness.
Please let me stay locked up in this tower.
Begone!
How am I gonna get outta this tower?
Oh I have a plan!
(gasps)
And so the witch cut and cut until all
of Rapunzel's hair was cut off
The magical hair is mine!
Wait, that hair was magical?
Now climb this hair down and be
banished to the wilderness forever
Doesn't that take a lot of upper body strength? I might
fall and get hurt
Begone!
And so Rapunzel lowered herself to the ground
and began to walk through the wilderness
Man, that did take a lot of upper body strength!
So that night the prince came calling
Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair!
Hark! The prince!
'tis time to see if we can catch a fly!
But when the prince looked up he did not
see Rapunzel
instead he saw the witch.
Aha, I have tricked thee!
The startled prince fell into the briar patch below.
hahaha
Thou hast fallen into my briar patch of blindness!
Ouch, this is incredibly painful!
And so Rapunzel wandered alone
through the wilderness
until she came upon a stretch of woods
that looked just like a hallway.
And there on a tree stump she saw her beloved prince.
Rapunzel is that you? I can't see.
Oh prince, what has happened to thine eyes?
That foul witch has blinded me with her briar patch.
Oh prince this is all my fault, for I accidentally
revealed our secret to the witch.
At least we're together one last time.
One last time? What dost thou mean?
The briar patch contained poison and I
fear I shall be dying soon.
No, my handsome prince, no!
And Rapunzel held the prince and began to cry.
But then something magical happened.
Handsome prince, what has happened?
Wait a minute, I feel a lot better now.
And I'm staring to see again.
The witch said my hair had healing powers, but she has cut it off.
Yeah, but one of your tears got in my eyes.
I think that did the trick.
Oh prince, then you shall be saved?
Yeah I feel a lot better.
What say we go out on that day now, eh?
Sounds good to me!
And so Rapunzel and the prince lived happily ever after.
When the evil witch heard that Rapunzel
had cured the prince and were now living happily,
She flew into a jealous rage.
No! No! No!
Ah don't you just love a good fairy tale?

need some cooler stuff in those little boxes we've got the same thing every
time you see each other those are cool Sophie likes them there's
a couple of ponies back there - yeah go for it I don't know I think it's a weird
shape for this class I don't know Stan get under it oh yeah I don't think I get
that let's see I think I think you might be able to get this yes you might be
able to get that Beamer Green superhero in the corner oh yeah you have another
kid Ian you can get in there you can get in that little slot probably what are
you trying to go okay you can try to get the dog out of the
way okay there's a collagen okay oh I saw that you knocked that other thing
over huh let's see the clothes on this guy I know she's Sophia or Sheridan
thanks again get him out of the way he's Santa
there's another mystery box right there I don't think you could even see it it
might be a tune one nope then you got the mystery box though let's see alright
so if you got another mystery box okay Sharon are you gonna do your turn over
here these are really cool this one's got
pizza in his hand this one has ice cream cone
the kitty has was a kitty holding french fries maybe
tag Oh Michael I grabbed by its head is it the same thing another chattering
teeth oh ouch yeah okay step down Sheridan's toe grab
his head almost oh it's so close it's gonna fall though weird I just have
french french fries in this yeah well now but you got the thing you can grab
on this we're gonna clock up what happens you bang it up against the edge
Spencer should not get forward like oh let it go
nope alright we're just gonna have to know that it's gonna drop right yeah go
to the left of where you want to be so this way farther the other way it's
gonna drop straight down from where the string is no I think you got around it
too much oh it's under the thing oh man now it's
upside down it'll be tougher that's okay show me something yeah it's like those
it's kind of like a Popeye ones it's like a like a weeble wobble let's see
that looks better it's underneath I don't know if we can get it now no but
it found maybe into a dead zone let's see oh maybe you might be able get it
okay that got around it and see if we can get it forward enough there we go
it's not under it enough though it's no fall again oh man it's so close guys Hey
look all the ponies are in you though Rainbow Dash Pinkie Pie you probably get
them now cuz they're open there were water sign that's my light where we want
to go for this cat right now I'll try to get this cat food frenzy cats Samantha

neck and that might be okay it's under that one leg the closest to you in the
nose hold on I got under the leg in the nose you can see in the mirror back
there held on by her nose it's not coming off is it look Sheraton Twilight
Sparkle's found pick ball it's really stuck there we go all right Sparkle who
wants to help I Sparkle all right Samantha still trying to go for the food
frenzy dog see step that ball under his chin but I think it's gonna slip off
okay it didn't open a little bit better now have it in a better spot that's kind
of where I wanted it to go see the clamps good it slipped too far forward

flaw is inside of the ball hopefully it falls out now okay step all right
so it's not we're gonna to bump it on the box on that side I think I'm the
thing ready this is what you do we get stuck to drop it and then you hit the
prize shoot thing at the bottom so that it still didn't come out usually that
will knock it out it should open up though and then I'll fall off there you
go that was a tough one though I can knock this guy and finally grab his head
and lift him up drop him in there we go and it almost got the ball to you
you got a pterodactyl okay sure he wants to try to build one too though guys to
get to the another mystery box but it's underneath this Bugs Bunny can you get
back to the where the loop of that bug might might go get it off the box and

gonna go for donut but it was too far back get it right on top of that thing
right on top of it but I don't think he's gonna grab it
oh the nose doesn't know when I
yep yes
now it's better you got the know Sofia he asked him a
question in the yes then he answered it
she's good at she's good at him Milo indeed we did win something because
you won that thing alright our next stop on our gamer green claw machine crawl is
taking shape we have Sophia Samantha and turn it up
they like to push the button to open the door and the door automatically opens
let's see what they got going on in here let's see how weak this machine is it
looks like you just go stick all right right in now this one doesn't oh man it
fell off okay forward a little bit so you don't hit that other box yeah looks
good Sheridan got it cheering Samantha's going for this doughnut see if it

for the collection sizzle cool grab him by his hat oh you got foxy rule all
right Smith is gonna try for pinkie pie ice cream comes kind of in the way
stabbed it push it down it might be better now if the ice cream comes out in
the way though Thank You oxy that is cool awesome we
gotta go for that evening dad if it gets under your chin is pretty light it
should grab monkey gonna try to pin the pink bear see might just grab it he'll
fall in there it goes tip the pink bear and she's not gonna move

fat maybe to see if we grab his head or not it's gonna fall you can get him now
though you can probably get him now what if Sofia's gonna name on whatever she
wants yeah you could get under his chin enough I don't know if it's gonna get
under his chin enough to slip to the side a little bit since PI didn't go get
me the codes where you go close that wasn't fast enough though maybe Superman

World Cup 2018: Spain vs. Russia odds, lines, expert picks, and insider predictions - Duration: 3:59.
World Cup 2018 Spain vs. Russia odds lines expert pics and insider
predictions a trip to the quarterfinals is on the line when Russia and Spain
square off on Sunday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time in the 2018 World Cup Spain is
number 10 in the FIFA World Rankings while Russia is number 70 Spain edged
out Portugal to top Group B while Russia secured second place in Group A Spain
enters this 2018 World Cup fixture is minus 175 moneyline favourites meaning
you'd need to bet $175 on a Spanish victory to win $100 Russia enters this
must-win match at plus 550 wager $100 to win 550 dollars while a draw in
regulation is plus 280 the over-under on total goals scored in this 2018 World
Cup matches 2.5 Spain is 9 to 2 win it all
after opening at 8 1 while Russia has 61 World Cup odds to hoist the trophy on
its home soil before you enter your 2018 World Cup picks you need to see what
european football expert david Sumter has to say sumpter is an applied
mathematician who wrote soccer Mattox a book that explains how math works inside
the sport along with other experienced analysts sumter developed the powerful
socks or baked model the socks are bait reads current odds and all team
performance data calculates key metrics and predicts upcoming matches in nearly
three seasons since its inception the socks Irbid is up an incredible one
thousand eight hundred percent on bookmakers closing odds the socks are
bid as already nailed draws for Argentina Iceland plus 385 and Brazil
Switzerland plus 360 it also correctly predicted Iran upsetting Morocco at plus
275 just to name a few of its big calls anyone who has followed it is way up
now the Sox urbanist digested the film crunched the numbers and broken down
every single player on Spain and Russia we can tell you the model is leaning
under 2.5 goals but it's much stronger play is on the money line you can see it
only at sports line the model no Spain certainly didn't dominate Group B but it
did enough to win it the squad tied Portugal 3-3 in what was arguably the
most exciting match of the World Cup 2018 thus far Spain followed it up with
a 1-0 win over defensive-minded Iran before settling for a 2-2 draw with
Morocco knowing it didn't need any more to move on the team survived the
shocking firing of coach julen La Petite just days before the World Cup started
Spain's unbeaten streak stands at 23 matches Russia entered the 2018 World
Cup as the lowest ranked nation in the tournament the Russians had no wins in
their last seven matches leading up to the start of the World Cup 2018 however
they quickly turned heads when they scored eight goals in their first two
matches securing two victories and six points against Saudi Arabia and Egypt
now they face the 2010 World Cup champions with a chance to clinch a spot
in the quarterfinals of the knockout stage the last time Russia met Spain was
in 2017 with the game ending in a 3-3 draw russia's fighters small off scored
two goals against spain in its november encounter but he has failed to attempt a
single shot in over 100 minutes of action at the 2018 World Cup Spain has
never lost to Russia in five games but there have been two draws

Arsenal transfer news: Steven N'Zonzi 'tells Sevilla he wants to leave' amid Gunners links - Duration: 1:51.
The Frenchman is currently on international duty with Didier Deschamps' side, who booked their place in the last eight of the World Cup on Saturday
But back home, N'Zonzi has been the subject of some big transfer speculation. Reports suggest Unai Emery wants a reunion with the Sevilla star this summer
And according to Spanish claims, the Arsenal boss may be about to get his wish. Estadio Deportivo are today reporting that N'Zonzi has told Sevilla he wishes to leave the club this summer
The former Blackburn star has previously asked to depart the La Liga outfit to no avail
However, Estadio Deportivo claim N'Zonzi firmly believes this will be the final summer he spends at the club
Emery is also said to be looking at fellow Sevilla star Ever Banega. The Argentinian is also reportedly unhappy in Spain after the club sacked Oscar Arias earlier this year
The former Sevilla sporting director is incredibly close with Banega and his family
Arias is said to be one of the main reasons the player decided to return to Seville after a short stint with Inter Milan in 2016
The 52-year-old was sacked after Sevilla's 5-0 Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona in April

Liverpool resume talks with Nabil Fekir after Man United submit offer for Lyon star ● News Now #LFC - Duration: 2:09.
Liverpool believe they can make a breakthrough in their pursuit of Nabil Fekir after resuming
talks with Lyon over a summer transfer, reports say.
Jurgen Klopp wanted Fekir to follow Fabinho and Naby Keita to Anfield last month but his
proposed £53million move fell through.
Fekir underwent a medical at Liverpool and was on the verge of signing a deal with the
Premier League club when they voiced their concerns over a historic injury.
Liverpool attempted to renegotiate a fee with Lyon but the Ligue 1 outfit instead pulled
the plug on the deal completely and said his price would go up after the World Cup.
It appeared Klopp and Liverpool would be forced to turn to alternative targets but the Daily
Mirror say the Merseyside club have resumed talks with Lyon and are confident of reaching
a compromise.
They hope to finally secure the 24-year-old midfielder's signature once the World Cup
finishes – Fekir's France progressed to the quarter-finals with a 4-3 victory over
Argentina on Saturday.
Liverpool's fresh approach for Fekir comes after Premier League rivals Manchester United
were said to have submitted an offer to bring him to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his squad this summer and has reportedly identified
Fekir as a surprise target for the remainder of the transfer window.
But Liverpool appear in pole position to strike a deal and last week his agent claimed Fekir's
move to Anfield was 'not finished'.
'Why hasn't he signed?
Because it is not finished.
The story is not finished,' Jean-Pierre Bernes said.

In other words the weapons that are designed to get you to stop thinking, like "Let's
be afraid of the foreigners" or "let's be afraid of nuclear war," if you think
about those threats over time as part as some kind of larger flow you're less likely to
be disabled, and you're more likely to distinguish the rhetoric from what might actually be the
risk.

Top 5 Kirby Facts - Duration: 4:10.
What happens when you're starving to death and the pizza guy is late with your order.
You know I'm talking about Kirby, baby.
Well in this video I'll be listing off the Top Five Facts about Kirby that you may or
may not know.
Man, I've been slacking.
What were you doing when you were 19, I bet it wasn't as thrilling as Mashiro Sakurai.
He first created Kirby at the age of 19; and soon after created Kirby's Dream Land.
Bro he was just out of high school and already created one of the biggest franchises in the
world.
Man I suck. Kirby originally started life as a blob placeholder
sprite for the game, originally titled "Twinkle Popo."
Over time, Sakurai grew fond of the placeholder sprite, and preferred it over the conception
of the game's original protagonist it was designed for, so Kirby became the star of
his first game.
However, at the time his name wasn't Kirby it was Popopo, but that was only for a short
time he was quickly renamed Kirby.
Kirby's original name, Popopo, would later be referenced in Kirby Mass Attack, as it
is set on the Popopo Islands.
Sakurai intended Kirby to be pink when he conceived his character.
This was in contrast with the wishes of Shigeru Miyamoto, who wanted Kirby to be yellow.
Before Nintendo of Japan settled on Sakurai's preference of pink, the game was ported over
to the United States where Nintendo of America had some confusion over just what Kirby's
color was supposed to be.
They ended up with the color white by basing it off his sprite's appearance on the gray-scale
Game Boy screen.
While the Japanese box art and artwork correctly depicts Kirby as pink according to Sakurai's
wishes, his artwork, cartridge label, box art, instruction booklet, and even the television
advertisement for Kirby's Dream Land depicted Kirby as white in America.
Fortunately, this only happened to Kirby's Dream Land as the confusion was cleared up
before Kirby's Adventure was released as a direct sequel.
On an episode of the Nintendo Power Podcast, Nintendo of America Senior Director of Localization
Nate Bihldorff were asked what Kirby feels like.
Bihldorff said that he "wants to believe" that Kirby feels like velour fabric.
Uh...what's that?!
Velour is a plush, knitted fabric or textile similar to velvet or velveteen.
So, Kirby's body is smooth.
I'd always assume it was rubbery like a balloon or something.
Where Kirby got his name from is not known, since Sakurai himself has been quoted as saying
he does not remember how Kirby got his name.
However, from within the fandom, it is believed that Kirby might have been named after the
Kirby Corporation, which manufactures vacuum cleaners and suits Kirby and his inhalation
abilities.
The other explanation is that he might have been named in honor of Nintendo's legal counsel,
John Kirby of Latham & Watkins LLP, who defended Nintendo against a copyright infringement
lawsuit filed by Universal Studios over the similarities of Donkey Kong to King Kong.
Well that's it!
Those are all the Kirby facts that I could find.
If you enjoyed it leave a like I dunno know.

How To Choose A Wig Style For Rectangular Face Shape & How To Know If You Have A Rectangular Face - Duration: 2:41.
Hi ladies, it's Lee at Woman In Disguise, and excited to talk a little bit about the
rectangular shape face, and what hair styles can really play up and look great on you.
So first of all, what is a rectangular shape face? if you think about it, it's pretty much
that your face is slightly longer thank you are wide, and you tend to have an angular
jaw line.
Similar to an oval shape which is longer but less angular jaw line.
So I'm a little bit, my natural face shape is somewhere in between oval and a rectangle,
but if you want to kind of know true rectangles, think of Sandra Bullock, or Lucy Lu, they
have that really rectangular face.
And like with everything we do with our hair the whole idea isn't to hide, or change the
shape of your face because it's perfectly you, you face is perfectly you, it's just
about highlighting, and so with the opportunity you have with having a rectangular face is
that since it's a little bit longer and you have a little bit of an angular jaw line,
it's an opportunity where styles that can make your face look a little rounder and soften
the angles.
And a way to do that is think about when you add some volume into a style like this like
the one I have one is you want to think about adding some of the volume kind of between
your temples and your cheeks bones and what that will do is kinda of soften and round
out you face and a little volume on top is actually nice as well because it again really
does a nice off set.
If you do bangs try to stay away from really blunt thick bangs with a rectangular face.
Kinda of want to think wispy, side swept, and you know where they just kinda of go across
and not a real blunt cut.
Short hair is a total DO with a rectangular face, especially when you think about real
close on the sides, short on the sides and then a long, long wispy front.
Looks really great on a rectangular face.
But like we always talk about the most important thing is that you feel good.
So the best hair style for you is one that you feel great in, when you look in the mirror
you're like yay that's me, I look great.
And so, but don't be afraid to switch it up, play it up and try some new things cus variety
is the spice of life.
Talk to you later.

in Havana, Cuba,
making a song with El Pirata, El Brillante
and Osmany Like,
a Cuban song of mine that is called "A mi música"
dedicated to the great soneros with Timba,
Reggaeton,
Cuban pop music,
so today in this program
we are going to present this song,
I repeat

So now we go from the recording studio
to our Youtube Video Studio,
we hope you will not leave our channel
and stay there with this surprise,
that you will dance a lot
with this song that will sound in Cuba and the world.
Until now, and as I always say, we are different and we are fighting for dreams.
