Which year did you win?
around 3-4 years ago, in 2015
At the time you were already a big star in Kazakhstan and other countries right?
I am uneasy with the idea of being a star
Because in my opinion, stars belong in the sky.
Why do you feel that way?
We are all just regular people
But like many of your fellow artists who perform
They carry themselves as if they are big stars
not just on stage but also off stage as we have seen
Some people are strange
Why is that?
I don't know...but I don't like that
You are very humble
Maybe it is imprudent for me to say this
But I don't really think of myself as humble

Here in Russia we have an accomplished singer Vitas how is also successful in China and beyond
How did you become a star in China?
A year and a half ago I participated in a contest in China
Regarding the contest
the same contest?
Yes it's run by a TV station and famous Chinese singers participate in it
and my participation was like an experiement
because I was the only foreign singer invited, and the only one unknown to the audience
After I sang SOS in the first round, the audience got to know me
And then things just fell into place
Did you sing a song by ABBA?
It's a song by Gregory Lemarchal
In what languages did you sing?
Of course wherever I go I always sing in Kazakh
because more than anything I want to introduce the beauty of the Kazakh language to foreigners
But in China, of course I also sing in Chinese
I am not very good at it but at least I try
So in Mandarin
I work really hard on it because I want to show gratitude to my listeners and admirers
For supporting me and attending my concerts
And so I absolutely must try to talk to the audience

How do you feel about participating in competitions?
not all artists like contests

Why did you agree to compete in Vitebsk?

Because he feels he is already good enough and comfortable in that environment
But I want to expand my boundaries

No. I have lots of shortcomings
Maybe you like to sleep a lot?
Yes, we all like to sleep
I don't drink because alcohol because it affects my voice badly
And in Kazakhstan children are brought up to stay away from alcohol.
In general terms, not stereotyping
Isn't there a pop-star stereotype? ,
They have an active lifestyle, late night parties, busy social lives, gossips, night clubs
So that's not you?
No. I have only been to night clubs two three times in my life
I don't want to
I am not a fan of that lifestyle either
Let's say if I go out at night
to take a break
I will call my friends to come over to my place
or play Playstation games with my friends
Or we sit in the car and chat or we skate around the city
It's hard to hang out in loud places. My friends are all musicians and we don't like the noise of night clubs
The loud music in the ears
It's interesting that there are young opera singers and many Russian singers
they don't abstain from anything. But you look after your voice well
How do you take care of your voice?
Every singer, not just the young ones but the established ones as well,
must work with the teacher.
I am very fortunate in this regard because I have always had fair and honest teachers
I would like to express my gratitude to my teacher Marat Tazhibaevich here
I also have a regime for my voice that I practice sometimes
But in general I am not paranoid
I just don't eat too sweet or sour that's all

People are more interesting in professional things
In competitions people try to sing deeper, more challenging songs to show off
But now, I think there is little meaning in competitions

Rarely. Nowadays young artists are not interested in proving their talent
But only to write easy songs
Does your success prove that the audience is ready for a different kind of music?
I don't know

eating meat or Chris walking oh I don't
know if you have one uh start a road
trip move into a new apartment a new
house or you could just pick a regular
Wednesday morning which is kind of our
favorite scenario of how this works yes
nobody's can do it is if you just
randomly pick a moment you're like ah
today seems like a good day and then you
just pull the pin and by doing that you
make that moment yours nobody else's
that now belongs to you and you have a
little marker that's gonna tell you
exactly how many days hours minutes and
seconds it's been since you sold that
special moment where nothing else was
happening
it wasn't someone's wedding nobody was
being born well some was firing points
somewhere oh yeah but in your world it's
just special because you pulled the pin
yeah but of course you can pull the pin
at any any special moment officer which
is pretty cool too okay this is very
dream project if you can't tell you know
so much mostly because it started as a
conceptual art project like this you
know I've made lots of timekeeping
devices this is one of many conceptual
timekeeping devices I've made but this
is the only one that's ever made it to
this level like we are ready to
manufacture this in the hundreds in the
fabulous or ten thousands however you
may be working hard to make this produce
manufacturable product and in in that
sense it's a dream project of ours you
know it's easy to make one one offs of
any kind of conceptual timepiece but
this is like we we actually see this
being in lots of people's lives and
lasting for an extremely long time which
you can read all about that stuff in
yeah yes if you get it awesome
please help this make it yeah you know
it it's we've been working on this for a
really long time since 2015 making all
kinds of prototypes first thinking about
it just as a conceptual piece but now
it's like yeah that's real yeah and part
of the inspiration for this too is I
don't know we're used to having things
like watches and clocks and calendars on
a daily basis to interface with time but
this is something that integrates with
your everyday life but it's an everyday
reminder of a scale of time that's
completely outside of your normal
ability to perceive time where you just
think about the world and and it works
yeah what you say you could even I just
think if you use it to mark like a news
event to like there's something special
that happened that you read in the news
and you're like I gotta remember this
moment
and so then you pull the pin here I'll
just pull one and then and then you know
you have this sitting on your shelf and
then for the rest of your life you have
a little thing that'll tell you exactly
how many days hours minutes and seconds
it's been since
News event that was so life to you yeah
you finished the book you like on the
last sentence and you're like ah in any
case we love this project we hope you
love it too please please help us make
this thing real that's it yeah yeah
