This Country Is Leading The Robot Revolution - Duration: 3:37.
It's becoming increasingly clear that the tech revolution is moving faster than anyone
expected.
For many, automation has made life easier; cars can be built in a few hours rather than
a few weeks, money can be dispensed from ATMs at any time of day, you can even check yourself
out of a grocery store without human interaction.
At the forefront of this technological shift is none other than one of the most technologically
advanced countries in the world: Japan.
While a number of physical jobs are already being phased out in favor of automation, the
next big plateau is replacing positions which require critical thinking, something believed
to be unique to humans.
But some companies in Japan are making the change with the help of artificial intelligence.
Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance is firing 34 workers whose job it is to calculate how much
to pay out for insurance claims.
In their place will be an AI system based on an information analysis machine created
by IBM.
Although the initial cost of the machine is high, roughly 1.7 million dollars, the company
believes it will save more than a million dollars a year.
And Fukoku is not the only company in Japan looking to replace its mental workforce.
At least three other similar companies are looking into AI systems to replace intermediaries
between the customer and the product.
And that kind of makes sense considering that Japan's population is dropping.
From 2010 to 2015 the country lost almost one million people, with a dramatically low
birth rate.
And nearly a third of the population is over the age of 65.
And while humans are dwindling, the ability to automate jobs in Japan is only improving.
Japan has one of the highest robot-to-human worker densities in the world, with roughly
one robot for every five workers.
One data analysis found that artificial intelligence and robots could replace roughly half of the
jobs in Japan just within the next ten to twenty years.
Around the world, the same rush to automate is ongoing.
Reports by the World Economic Forum show that as many as 7 million jobs will be lost to
robots in just the next five years in the top 15 countries, which comprise more than
half of the world's workforce.
Although every industry would see job loss, it would mostly be concentrated in areas like
healthcare, energy, and financial services, and in particular, office administration will
likely see the biggest hit.
Even today, jobs are dropping off at an alarming rate.
On the other hand, certain jobs, in particular, skilled person-to-person careers such as therapy,
social services, and perhaps ironically, jobs like data analysis, will likely be safe, and
even increase in demand.
These first few efforts in Japan may be new, but illustrate a dramatic shift worldwide
which, for many, is worrisome.
If robots are able to replicate human intelligence, what else is on the table for replacement?
Music?
Poetry?
These activities may seem safe from automation, but there are already signs that is not the
case.
Computers are already composing music, and twitter bots are creating complex poems.
In the end, Japan may not just be leading the way for automation of certain jobs, but
perhaps, the automation of humanity.

So what else is being lost in this move to automate everything?
Some people are struggling to find work in non-automated areas, others have given up
trying entirely.
So, what exactly is slowing new job seekers, and what will happen going forward?
Find out in this episode.
In the next 10 years, less than half of 1 billion job seekers are expected to actually
find work.
Clearly this situation is terrible, but not only for young people, but the world economy
as a whole.

Bangkok Street Food: Crispy Rice Salad (ยำแหนมข้าวทอด) - "The Lady Selling, NO GOOD!" - Duration: 13:53.
- Bangkok famous!
Oh, look at that, that is just beautiful!
(funky instrumental music)
Hey everyone, it's Mark Wiens with migrationology.com
in Bangkok, Thailand.
I'm in a taxi right now and on my way to Dalat See Yan
which is near Tou Dusit
and I am going to eat at what I've heard
is one of the most legendary places to eat a dish
called yum naem khao tod,
which is a fermented pork rice salad.
It's only gonna be a take-away food stall
so they have no seating and no tables
and they just serve it to you in a plastic bag.
If you want to eat it on-spot,
you gotta bring your own plate,
so somewhere in my bag,
I've got a plate and I am gonna eat it on-spot.
I got a plate and there's a spoon somewhere
below the camera in my backpack.
(upbeat instrumental music)
(motors revving)
I really love Sriyan Market.
There are so many interesting things
and it's such an old classic Bangkok market
and this has been one of my favorite markets
in Bangkok for a long time.
There is a lot of delicious food around here,
but the reason that I have never tried this
yam naem place is because they are literally
only open for a couple of random hours during the day,
and a couple of random hours in the evening
so if you don't catch them at the exact right time,
you will never see them.
And also from what I've read they often sometimes
sell out before they even open,
there's a whole long line of people
and they only have a certain amount
that they sell per day, or per time they open.
Ying, my wife, talked to them on the phone.
They said they're gonna be open at 2 p.m.
So we have about an hour to just walk around,
but we're definitely gonna show up early
so that we get our hands on some yam naem today.
As we're waiting for the yam naem,
we've decided to try,
there's another famous vendor that's selling
haw mok here.
So it is haw mok made with snakehead fish.
I know it's down here somewhere.
Oh, where is it?
I hope I didn't forget my spoon.
Oh, I got it, oh yeah.
So I just got one haw mok
and she told me that it's made with pla chon,
which is snakehead fish
and haw mok is a type of fish custard
which is made with a whole bunch of curry paste
and fish and then it's stirred for so long
that it turns to almost a meringue.
This is a real old Thai dish that has Portuguese influence,
so it's kind of a Portuguese-Thai dish
It's steamed in a little banana leaf cup and then,
oh yeah, you can feel that like custardy texture.
Oh yes.
And I really love haw mok when it is made the old way
but you can definitely find some versions of haw mok
which are not very good.
(chuckles) And this is definitely gonna be a good one!
At least I think so, because you can already see
the pieces of fish in there
and then the custardy curry paste and egg,
which is just like coating and surrounding it in custard.
Oh wow!
That's one of the best haw moks I've ever had.
Mmm!
The depth of spices in there,
and then the fish is really soft and really juicy
and then it's just surrounded by that coconut milk
which has like completely custard-ified.
I'm gonna take another bite
with that piece of fish and that chili,
and you can just see all that juice
and those juices that have formed down there.
That coconut milk, the eggs in there, the fish,
it is just a pure harmony.
And normally, you would eat this with rice,
but just as a steak it is amazing.
The leaves on the bottom, in Thai, they're called bai yaw.
And they're kind of stuck below there.
There they all came.
This is why I love Sriyan Market so much.
There are so many gems like this.
Haw mok is one of the Thai dishes
that's very common to find, but it's very hard to find
a really good version.
That's because it's actually very difficult to make
and it's also very time consuming,
because you have to really stir the coconut cream
until it becomes custard
and it's very strenuous as well.
But this is a true place to eat some amazing haw mok.
Wow, that was good!
We have about a 30 minute wait now
until they open the next stall.
(woman speaks in foreign language)
(mans speaks in foreign language)
(woman speaks in foreign language)
Oh, you got one to-go too?
- These are to-go.
- She literally just rolled the cart
to the position here on the sidewalk
and magically just a whole crowd of people appeared
and started ordering.
But yeah, she definitely had some orders
before she even started selling
and she is just busy as soon as she rolls her cart here.
Instead of having her put it
into the plastic bag for takeaway,
I just gave her my plate which I brought with me.
This salad is composed of three different parts,
the pig skin and the khao tod, which is like rice balls.
She has already broken them down
but they are deep-fried rice balls,
and then also the crunchy bits.
Then she mixed in some chili flakes,
she mixed in some lime juice and fish sauce,
and she really stirred it up just extremely expertly
using a plastic-bag mitten
and then piled it onto this plate.
Oh, and there's some green onions on top.
Then in the bag here, she gave me some side toppings.
She said to put this on first,
which is some kind of fried, crispy batter
with some chilies and peanuts on it.
Should I dump this all on?
I think I will just dump this all on.
Some extra crispies with peanuts
and some fried chilies on there too.
Then there's also vegetables on the side,
some raw vegetables to eat with it as well.
But I just gotta taste this immediately.
I thought I had lost my spoon,
but then I remembered I put it in my pocket.
You've always gotta carry a spoon with you
in your pocket.
I'm going in!
Bangkok famous.
Oh look at that, that is just beautiful.
The individual little pieces in this mixture
are just fantastic.
I think I have a little bit of everything in this bite
and I got one of those dried fried chilies and a peanut,
some crispies, some of the rice, and a lot of pig skin.
I have to admit, that pig skin usually does not sound
all that appealing to me.
But this is unbelievable.
You cannot really tell it's pig skin.
It's so soft and so tender
and it has just like a very slightly,
slightly gelatinous texture to it,
but actually, the way she's cooked it,
it's so soft and tender.
And then, oh man, there's some little pieces of minced pork
in there as well, but then also
the little soft pieces of pork skin
are just broken up by the really crispy little bits.
And it's spicy, a lot of ground chili in there,
powdered chili.
And then also it's nice and sour from the lime juice
and just perfectly salted from the fish sauce.
Wow, that is actually remarkable.
That is so good!
And what you can really taste are like
every single individual piece in this mixture.
You can taste every single piece of the pig skin.
You can taste the little kernels of fried fritter.
You can taste the green onions, you can taste the chilies.
And you also get a little bit of sourness
from that fermentation as well.
It almost kinda eats like a trail mix.
You can almost just pick it up with your fingers
and just kinda eat it like a bag of chips or something.
I'm going in for some raw vegetables.
There are some pennywort leaves and some cabbage.
Actually, let me put some of this onto my plate.
I'll just put a handful of it onto my plate.
Oh yeah, and you can just sort of garnish.
Oh, there's some Vietnamese coriander here too.
In Thai it's called phak phaew
and then some pennywort leaves.
You can just kind of garnish.
Mmm, very, very green tasting.
I love it.
Yeah, it sort of has like the caramelized crunchy bit
that you get at the bottom of the rice cooker,
but that's actually deep fried.
(group laughs)
Very good, very good.
(woman speaks in foreign language)
Yeah, as we're standing here eating this plate of yam naem,
a friendly guy, he was just talking to us
and basically he was just joking
and he was saying the yam naem is not good
and she's not very nice.
You should not come here to eat
as he was buying like four bagsful of takeaway. (chuckles)
This is one of those dishes that you keep on eating
and you don't even realize it,
and all of a sudden you're on your last bite.
And so, I'm on my last bite.
Or at least, couple of last bites.
But it has gone down so easily.
Wow!
Although it contains pig skin,
it's such a like, light dish, and kinda refreshing.
That was well worth the food adventure it was
to come eat this yam naem khao tod.
That was really, really good.
Each of the components actually are kind of random
and kind of plain on their own,
but when they are mixed together
and then seasoned with lime juice
and fish sauce and chili flakes,
it just creates like a very unlikely snack mixture,
and it even has like a dryness to it.
It's not like a juicy mixture, but it's just so good,
and it works so well together,
and that is by all means the best one I've ever had
in my life, across Thailand.
That's really, really good.
She's really nice.
The hardest thing about coming here
is trying to figure out their opening times
and if they have sold out or not.
So that is a little tricky.
I'm gonna try to write all the details.
I'm gonna end the video here.
Thank you all very much for watching this video.
Please remember to give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it.
Also leave a comment below.
I would love to hear from you
and I will see you on the next video.

The Genderbread Person | Gender Revolution - Duration: 2:39.
KATIE COURIC: Let's unpack this whole gender conversation.
You use a device, or a character,
called the Genderbread Man.
SAM KILLERMAN: Person.
KATIE COURIC: Oh, sorry.
Oh.
Sorry, sorry.
The Genderbread Person.
SAM KILLERMAN: It's OK.
I find it really helpful to think about gender in a few
different distinct categories-- gender identity,
how you define your gender and how you see yourself;
gender expression, the different ways that we present or perform
gender through our actions, our dress, and our demeanor;
and biological sex or anatomical sex--
the physical characteristics that make up our body that,
in many people's minds, equal gender, but don't.
KATIE COURIC: So gender expression is the way you
present yourself to the world.
So you could be talking about the way you dress,
the way you comb your hair--
SAM KILLERMAN: Or don't.
KATIE COURIC: --or use product.
So everything as it relates to the outside world.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah.
That's a perfect way to think about it.
So even just-- OK, so this is funny.
The way that I'm sitting right now
is a very feminine expression of sitting, because how we sit
is gendered.
KATIE COURIC: Meanwhile, I'm kind of man-spreading.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah, you're man-spreading.
You're not even give me enough room to properly
man-spread over here.
This is the man cross, the masculine way
of crossing a leg.
This is just uncomfortable for me.
It feels like so much.
KATIE COURIC: It feels good to me.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah?
KATIE COURIC: Yeah, it's like yoga.
OK, now let's do the girl.
SAM KILLERMAN: OK.
KATIE COURIC: So gender is different
than sexual orientation.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah.
KATIE COURIC: But a lot of people get them confused.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah.
Gender is who you go to bed as.
Sexual orientation is who you go to bed with.
KATIE COURIC: Got it.
SAM KILLERMAN: So if you haven't heard that one,
that one is important.
KATIE COURIC: So let's talk about penises and vaginas,
shall we?
SAM KILLERMAN: We might as well.
SAM KILLERMAN: Let's just go right there.
SAM KILLERMAN: If you haven't already talked about penises
and vaginas, we need to talk about penises and vagina,
because that's what everybody always thinks.
Immediately, as soon as you say gender,
anybody who's walking by right now who's hearing us
say the word "gender," the first thing
that's popping to their mind is external genitalia.
They're thinking about penises and vagina.
KATIE COURIC: So for the purpose of our discussion,
the bottom line is, your external genitalia
does not dictate your gender.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah.
KATIE COURIC (VOICEOVER): Wait a second.
Can you rewind that?
KATIE COURIC: The bottom line is, your external genitalia
does not dictate your gender.
SAM KILLERMAN: Yeah.
I couldn't have said it better.

Tracking A Cold Blast Tonight - Duration: 3:00.
DOUG: HERE IT COMES.
KELLY ANN: CHANGE IS MOVING IN.
IT'S BEEN A ROUGH SEASON FOR
SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS.
WE HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH SNOWFALL SO
FAR.
WE HAVE SNOW MOVING IN AS WE
KICK OFF FEBRUARY.
I HAVE A FEELING WE HAVE MORE
DOWN THE PIPELINE AS WELL.
TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW ARE
MAINLY IN THE 30'S, ESPECIALLY
ALONG THE COASTLINE.
32 IN PLYMOUTH AND BOSTON.
A FEW DOS AS WE MOVE TO OUR
WEST.
ORANGE AT 25 DEGREES.
WORCESTER AT 29.
WE HAVE THOSE WINDS THAT ARE
STARTING TO PICK UP JUST A BIT.
MAINLY BETWEEN 5 TO 10 MILES AN
HOUR, WHICH, OF COURSE, ISN'T
STRONG, BUT JUST ENOUGH OF A
BREEZE THAT WE DO HAVE THOSE
WIND-CHILL FACTORS JUST A BIT
BELOW WHAT THE THERMOMETER IS
READING.
SO IT'S FEELING LIKE 20 IN
WORCESTER.
FEELING LIKE THE MID 20'S AS WE
MOVE ALONG THE COASTLINE.
THOSE WINDS WILL PICK UP A BIT
THIS AFTERNOON, MAKING THOSE
TEMPERATURES, WHICH LOOK TO TOP
OUT IN THE 40'S THIS AFTERNOON,
FEEL LIKE THEY'RE DOWN INTO THE
30'S, AND EVENTUALLY WE HAVE
THAT BIG COOLDOWN AS WE HEAD
INTO THE FORECAST TONIGHT.
A FEW CLOUDS MOVING THROUGH FOR
THIS MORNING.
MOST OF US STAYING DRY.
WE HAVE A FEW AREAS OF FLAKES
MOVING THROUGH.
THAT'S ESPECIALLY THE CASE AS WE
MOVE ON TO THE CAPE AND ISLANDS
WHERE WE WILL SEE THE CHANCE OF
FLAKES AND DRIZZLE THROUGHOUT
THE DAY.
MOST OF US STAY DRYING.
BUT MARSHFIELD GETTING A FEW
LIGHT SNOWFLAKES PUSHING
THROUGH.
WE'LL SEE THAT TRANSITION TO A
COOL DRIZZLE AT TIMES AS WELL.
THE MAIN REASON THIS IS BECAUSE
WE DO HAVE THAT TRACK BRINGING
THAT SNOWFALL FOR UPSTATE NEW
YORK.
THAT'S GOING TO CONTINUE TO PUSH
INTO OUR AREA TODAY.
WHILE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR DAY
WILL BE DRY, DON'T BE SURPRISED
IF YOU SEE A FEW SPRINKLES AND
FLAKES, AND DON'T BE SURPRISED
IF YOU SEE THAT BIG COOLDOWN
TONIGHT AS WELL AS THAT SYSTEM
PUSHES IN THAT COLDER AIR FROM
CANADA.
FOR THE FORECAST TODAY, WE'RE
TOPPING OUT IN THE 40'S UNDER A
PARTLY SUNNY SKY.
BUT MOVING OUT WEST OF 495
THROUGH MUCH OF WORCESTER
COUNTY, THAT'S WHERE THE CHANCE
OF A FEW DROPS AND FLAKES WILL
BE POSSIBLE AS WE SEE
TEMPERATURES COOLING DOWN
HEADING INTO TOMORROW.
THAT'S ALSO THE CASE AS WE MOVE
DOWN TO OUR SOUTH.
TEMPERATURES TOPPING OUT IN THE
MID 40'S.
ON THE CAPE, WE HAVE THOSE WINDS
GUSTING NEAR 25 MILES PER HOUR.
WE HAVE THAT CHANCE OF A FEW
FLAKES MAKING IT FEEL COLDER,
AND CHECK OUT WHAT'S IN STORE IN
THE DAYS AHEAD.
WE'RE DROPPING DOWN INTO THE
30'S HEADING INTO MONDAY AND
TUESDAY.
SO WE DO HAVE A BIG DROP IN
TEMPERATURES.
STARTING TO FEEL A BIT MORE
WINTERLIKE.
WITH OUR NEXT SYSTEM, WE WILL
SEE THE CHANCE OF LIGHT
SNOWFALL.
WE'RE NOT EXPECTING MUCH.
IT'S A QUICK MOVE ALBERTA
CLIPPER.
YOU MOVE WEST OF 495, UPWARDS OF
AN INCH IS POSSIBLE.
NOT A PLOWABLE SNOWFALL, BUT
ENOUGH TO BE A NUISANCE FOR
DRIVING.
MOVING INTO THE REST OF THE
WORKWEEK, DRIER TEMPERATURES
FILTERING IN.
WE'RE TOPPING BELOW FREEZING
HEADING INTO NEXT WEEKEND.

Jun Ji Hyun from The Legend of the Blue Sea has "grown-up" - Duration: 3:59.
South Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun age 35, who plays the quirky, cute and spontaneous mermaid
character in The Legend Of The Blue Sea, initially found the role difficult to portray.
She did feel the pressure to show a personality that's different from who she really is,
like she needed to do something funny in every episode.
Jun leads an active lifestyle, but since she had to portray a mermaid, she had to swim
more often than usual.
"It's actually really hard to swim in the mermaid costume, and to look natural at
the same time.
I don't think I would want to play a mermaid again," she said, laughing.
The former model, who towers at 173cm, has been regarded as one of the country's true
elegant beauties.
Just like in her 2013 K-drama My Love From The Star, Jun Ji Hyun surprised viewers by
convincingly portraying her cheeky role in The Legend Of The Blue Sea.
She began her acting career in 1997 and starred in various TV dramas and films, including
The Thieves, My Sassy Girl and Windstruck, went on to make her Hollywood debut in the
action film, Blood, The Last Vampire in 2009, playing the sword-wielding martial arts heroine.
"wow!
Is already been 19 years?" she said, laughing.
"Time passes by so fast when you're not noticing it; especially when you're doing
what you love.
"Being an actress is like going on a one-way road trip.
You set out with some plans but you will soon realise that there are different routes you
can take to reach your destination.
"Many times I was at a crossroad and had to decide if I should take risks and try new
things.
People will always tell you to stick to your original plans, but my advice is to stick
to your destination but be flexible with how you want to get there."
The lanky beauty married banker Choi Joon Hyuk in 2012, and gave birth to their son
in February 2016.

Her marriage and the birth of her son are the two biggest turning points in her life,
putting her priorities in place.

It is the state of mind."

Throw Away Your Glasses: This Ingredient Will Help You Increase Your Vision By 97% Naturally!
As we grow older we start experiencing more health problems, which is completely normal
and understandable.
However, it doesn't mean that we need to accept this if there's something we can
do to improve our condition.
Let's take our eyes for example.
They are very important especially since we get more than 90% of the information from
the outside world through them.
However, one of the most common problems older people experience is impaired vision and deteriorated
eye sight.
We know that there are all kinds of lenses, glasses and surgical procedures that can help
in this situation, but they're usually quite costly and not everyone can afford them.
Moreover, in certain cases they're not even effective so what else can we do?
Luckily, there's a wide array of natural remedies that treat vision impaired by aging.
In this article we're going to share with you one of the most effective ones which will
help you get rid of your glasses in just a few weeks and restore your eye sight to its
previous condition.
The main ingredient in this recipe is saffron – a root very few are familiar with.
Professor Silvia Bisti from the Vision Center at the University of Sydney claims that this
natural element could prevent and restore eyesight degeneration as it makes the cells
taking part of the visual system harder and more resistant in a very short time.
Saffron should be used in the form of tea.

Hello, today we will see how we configure the tracking codes or tracking pixels
to be used in social networks through Google tag manager.
The truth is that it is a very convenient way to do so because we put all
codes in one place and not have to walk accessing source code
our page every time you want to include a new tracking code or pixel
this type.
So let's do this.
Today I will show this page Canariasexclusive.Com is an e-commerce which we can in which
we can buy products.
Is an ecommerce experiences then we to see if we go to Google Tag Manager,
Google tag manager in what we have are accounts and we then containers, okay?
an account is associated with a person brand or project, within which we can be
containers.
In this case account Diego Martin C It has three containers for three projects
various web and here a different account with a container.
This is what we see now is the page web exclusive we have seen. I'll access
this is already created, but in steps creation, will appear this. tells you
to install this code is the code Tracking is a tracking code
similar to Google Analytics, but in this case is the Google tag manager tells us
we put this code in the Head of the page and this piece in the body, right?
are different parts of the HTML code It has a page and also these codes
They should be on every page of the site and therefore in the case of this store,
it is a Prestashop, we have know that there is a file in templates
where if we include that code in the head, Let's see, it will appear on all
pages. if we go a little I already have here opened the hosting. the hosting of this website,
I'll access your files, you could do FTP or as it is an adjustment
very short can also do so directly files in this administration panel
Plesk is called, and in the case of Plesk from here we can directly access the files
the web. These are all files has this PrestaShop, namely there is a
themes folder is in the folder issues we have to locate the active theme. in this
case is this. This is the active subject that you are using on that website Canarias
and within this exclusive theme folder we are using, we have this header.tpl file,
which if I can directly click here Edit. in this file it is where we need to
insert the code. if you want a little there in Google you will see that people tell you
you insert this code in this section and specifically, if you look, this is the
closing clause head tag, just I inserted the above code, the script
of Google tag manager, as you can see. There is only one exception is that for
function properly have to add this literal label, right?
ie us Google provides us this, the code itself, is just this part,
the script. and above this is a comment. It indicates that the code starts here
Google tag manager and this is another below closing comment. therefore, if we look
as I have included, we put the comment opening, literally, start the script,
ends the script, we close the literal and put the closing comment. this is before
end as we head tag indicates Google tag manager and also tells us that
This immediately introduce other code after the opening of the BODY tag.
after, on a website ever after the head always begins the body, and this
It is the label. opening label body is all this and as you can see,
just after we have done the same for This second code Google tag manager,
literal adding labels to the top At the end. We keep this. To know what
We have not broken anything simply will update here the page. if properly load is
we have not broken anything in the code, but we will not see anything just yet.
When you add the Google tag manager time is useless, simply enter
your code and then let Google tag manager to be able to manage tags. then how
label can include, for we can include the tracking code Google
Analytics or we can include pixels conversion provides us with Facebook.

SuperTalks | REVIEW: Supergirl Episode 9 "SUPERGIRL LIVES" - Duration: 6:21.
Hello world and possible infinite earths
my name is Sara and welcome to the
first video of SuperTalks!
On this channel I will be reviewing and sharing
my thoughts on different TV shows and movies
but mainly the superhero universe on the CW
DISCLAIMER:
I will in no way pretent to be a comic book expert and all my reviews
are based on the continuity of the show
and limited knowledge of the comic book lore
So without further redo here is my
review of Supergirl episode 9 and...
SPOILER ALERT if you haven't seen the episode yet
Supergirl lives is the title of the
mid-season premiere and the ninth episode of Supergirl season 2
and is directed by Kevin Smith
In this episode we see Kara, who is moved by the story of
a missing woman named Izzy (played by Kevin Smith's daughter Harley Quinn Smith)
and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr's order to leave it alone
Kara takes Mon-El with her to the last
place Izzy was seen and the duo find a
portal to another planet which Mon-El says is named Slaver's Moon
Basically a slave trading centre: Daxam used to get their slaves from this planet
The leader of the trafficking ring is
none other than Roulette
Slaver's Moon also has a red Sun which is an obvious nod to
the Superman Lives script
a script Kevin Smith wrote but the movie was never done
The red sun means Kara and Mon-El are stripped
of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home
(because the portal stopped working for some reason)
meanwhile back on earth
Alex blames herself for Kara's disappearance fearing she
has become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie
when she should be watching out for her sister
This episode had a lot of Kara and I always
like when they have a lot of Kara
the show was named after her after all
my main issue with this season has been
the lack of Kara
In this episode we get an obvious display of Kara's selflesness and
impulsiveness and recklessness which
reminds me of a gryffindor trait
The only thing I don't like about Kara
selflessness is that the show makes
Mon-Ell seem selfish for not wanting to
be reckless
he's not being selfish, he's being smart
but oh well
back to Kara:
She goes against her boss's orders save a girl
she doesn't know, she breaks into the
evil base in a way but entering through
the front door and refuses to move when
the bad aliens come to take them away
now I'm still a bit confused about how
she's visibly more shaken up by punching
a guy once than being electro-shocked
like five times
You see, if used to NEVER get hurt
I think even a papercut would
be painful. Let alone a punch and having
electricity run through your body repeatedly
The dialogue was a bit weird
when they first went through the portal
and Mon-El asked Kara if she was hurt
and then she was like "yeah cuz it's a red sun"
and that is all they said about that
One would think you wouldn't be as casual in a dangerous situation like this
The show is often very positive times
despite that might not being very realistic
And doesn't really feel like they're in any sort of danger at all
when even the powerless heroes talk
about their situation as if
it's a walk in the park
the dialogue remove some of the suspense
and to be honest the entire rescue
mission just seemed too easy
they just went in and then they went out again
and it wasn't really that big of a deal it seemed like
But overall Supergirl's supposed to be light-hearted
and fun: this episode definitely was and
I enjoyed it. I just hope that they do
some darker episodes near the season's end
more in the emotional range of Kryptonite Supergirl
The human for a day episode
and the Toyman episode from last year
Those kind of episode give a new challenge to the actors
give their characters more depth
and displays their acting range
Those are often the best kind of episodes
I loved Winn in this episode
Jeremy Jordan is a great actor and it's
always great to see a happy Alex for once
It's nice to see Alex and Maggie
together as well but I hope they decide to
not do a typical CW thing and
create pointless drama around the relationship.
Just let them be together
and leave it at that
The only real disappointment of the
episode was the very minimal amount of
Roulette. Again. She had a limited amount
of screen time and she didn't really do much with it
Her goons did all the work.
As last time.
I was expecting her to do something
herself, as she didn't do anything the last time we saw her
apparently she's a formidable martial
artist herself and can fight with the best.
Still waiting for that.
Also Hank wasn't in the episode as much as usual
which I didn't like but apparently
we're getting a Martian focused episode down the road.
So it's forgiven. Soon.
And also Lena Luthor wasn't around
there was no mention of Cadmus, no M'Gann...
and still no James!
but oh well..
There was Mon-El so..
..yeah.
I guess we all can say that Mon-El is the prince at this point
We all guessed it when he arrived for the first time
anyway so..
This episode was fun, but it still raises some questions like..
When will Kara figure out that James is the Guardian?
Apparently it seems like that's the only
thing he writes about at Catco.
How is Kara impervious electroshocks?
I'm pretty sure she'll get her ass kicked a
bit as soon as the next episode by Livewire
and this is WITH her powers
so how is this even possible?
How come Mon-eL doesn't Kara he's the prince?
it's pretty obvious at this point ;)
EPISODE PROS: Winn in the field, happy Alex
Stunts and fight scenes for Alex and Winn (and Kara)
Good sister scenes between Alex and Kara: where the heart of the show lies
so that was very nice to see
CONS OF THIS EPISODE:
No Hank, No Roulette, no explaining how a portal to
another planet was made
(they kinda glossed over that one)
Kara still doesn't know James is the Guardian
And at this point I'm nitpicking
but a huge editing fail really stood out to me:
Winn enters the portal - very obvious -
He's running into the portal and
Kara is pushing into the portal
But then he's NEXT to Kara again in the next shot
This is very weird and it still bothers me..
So apparently no one caught that or they
did but couldn't re-shoot it
Anyway, it was very weird.
Overall this episode was a fun ride and
despite a few things I enjoyed it
I would give it a 7.5/10
Thank you so much for watching and listening to me babble
If you have any thoughts or disagree or agree with me
feel free to send me a tweet

I don't expect so much interactions on
