Brainy Dose Presents:
How To Make Friends When You're Shy
If you've been wondering whether it's even possible to get past your shyness and
reach out to make new friends, the answer is YES!
Lots of shy people have friends, and so can you.
The good news is, that making friends isn't about trying to become more outgoing.
It's more about adjusting your approach.
Now, the purpose of this video is not to teach you how to get a social life or deal with
every facet of being shy…
But, the following suggestions should help you start building new friendships.
So here's how to make friends if you're a shy person!
Number 1 - Get Involved
Joining local clubs, signing up for classes, or attending networking meetings are some
of the easiest ways to meet people.
When you go out and start taking part in these things, you'll have a steady group of people
to hang out with each week.
You may even get to know and like some of these people!
So… let's say you're a bookworm, join a book club.
If you're into art and drawing, see if there are any art classes in your area.
The point is to connect with others who share similar interests.
From there, you'll get to talk to and share common experiences with people, and eventually
start to make friends with them.
Number 2 - Smile
People usually gravitate towards those who look friendly.
Make it a point to smile at everyone you see.
It may not always feel natural, at least not for everyone, but a smile is one of the most
attractive things that you can display when you're meeting new people.
It doesn't have to be a wild grin either - just show a friendly, polite smile that's inviting
to anyone and everyone.
Don't worry if you find it hard to smile all the time, it's okay - new habits take
time to stick.
Smile whenever you remember, and when you forget, don't beat yourself up over it.
Number 3 - Talk To People
I understand that you're shy… but in order to make friends, you will have to talk to
people.
Yes, you're going to have to say "hi" - and even though small talk gets a bad rap,
it's actually quite useful for getting a conversation started.
The best and most effective way to initiate small talk, is to start by asking people questions
about themselves.
This works really well because most people love talking about themselves - so they're
not going to notice that you aren't talking that much.
Ask people about their weekend, or compliment them, and ask them about something they're
wearing -these are all great ways to start a conversation.
Furthermore, to come across sincere, it helps to ask questions you are genuinely interested
in hearing the answer to.
This will usually lead the small talk into an actual conversation.
Number 4 - Have Some Stories
It's great to be an amazing listener, but don't feel as though you should never speak
up.
If you have something to say, say it.
If you did something exciting over the weekend or recently, you should share it.
It's also a good idea to have some stories in your arsenal.
When you have a few good stories to share with others, you'll never run out of things
to talk about.
The key is to be honest and vulnerable with your stories.
For example, you can share a story about a struggle or challenge, and what you did to
overcome it.
Number 5 - Offer Help
When you're helpful through your talents, skills, or kindness, you're more likely to
develop friendships with others.
Just make sure that those friends aren't only there because of something you can give!
A friendship should be both give and take - so pay close attention.
Good friends give back - and they are there when you need them too - not just when they
need you.
Number 6 - Share With Others
One of the easiest ways to become friends with someone is to offer something.
Learning to share can help you develop rapport and make it easier to talk with others.
This doesn't have to be a big sacrifice.
It can be as simple as sharing a snack with a classmate or co-worker.
If you're looking to get more attention, consider bringing something for a group to share.
It can be anything from coffee and donuts, to your signature homemade cookies.
The point is to show some kindness and generosity.
Number 7 - Relax
Shyness can make you feel isolated or alone.
And if you just can't relax and be yourself, you may give off the wrong vibes that will
send people in the other direction - away from you.
While it can take some time to be comfortable in your own skin when around people, you're
more likely to find more friends when you open yourself up to others.
Number 8 - Facebook "Friend" People You Meet
Whether it's a good or bad thing, it's no secret that Facebook has become a major
influence in our lives.
It has enabled us to easily keep in touch with others.
But, this platform can also be utilized to feel out "friendship waters" with a coworker,
a neighbor, or someone you met just a couple of times.
If you know the person's full name, you can easily find them and send them a friend
request - and from there, you can get to know them a little better.
Number 9 - Invite Prospective Fiends
Once you find someone that you feel could potentially be a friend, ask them to hang
out.
Take the initiative, and invite them out for coffee, or maybe for a walk at the park.
Now, I know what you're thinking…
But even though this may seem a little scary at first, chances are, most people will say
"yes."
This is one of those times when you really need to just step out into the unknown.
Without this call to action, you will never have a chance to explore the possibility of
a friendship with that person.
Besides, if you have fun with someone, or share the same interests, they're probably
going to want to spend more time with you!
Number 10 - Accept Invitations
As a shy person, you're first inclination to an invitation is probably to decline it
- especially if you don't know that person well.
But, it's important that you start accepting invitations when they are presented to you.
Once you have more friends, you can always decline invitations on your bad nights, or
when you don't really feel like going out.
But until then, just make the effort and go!
Number 11 - Keep In Touch
If you have people in your life that you consider to be friends, make it a point to stay in
touch.
Text, email or call them from time to time.
These periodic check-ins will not only remind them that you're thinking about them, but
also help your friendship grow, naturally.
The frequency of these contacts will of course depend on the friend and type of friendship.
If you don't contact some people every week, they'll begin to wonder if you hate them
for some reason - while others can go for months without any contact, and be fine.
This is something you need to feel out as your friendship progresses.
Number 12 - Give People The Benefit Of The Doubt
Here's the thing…
Sometimes people are going to say NO to your plans, or they're not going to want to hang
out with you.
When this happens, it's easy to assume the worst - but you shouldn't take a cancellation
or a change of plans personally.
Consider that something really important may have come up for them - something they could
not reschedule - like a relative visiting from out of town.
But it's also possible that they just want to stay home and relax.
Maybe they've had a long week.
Regardless of the circumstance, give people the benefit of the doubt.
Assume that they have a legitimate reason for not hanging out.
And if you ask them to hang out again at a different time, and they don't want to do
that either, just let it go and don't hold it against them.
If they're interested in your company, eventually they'll come around.
It can be difficult to make friends, especially when you don't know many people - but it
doesn't have to be.
Just think about these strategies as tools that you always keep in your back pocket.
They're always available if you want to connect with people to develop lasting friendships.
What do you think about this list?
What kind of challenges do you face when trying to make new friends?

The Best Chinese House Special Fried Rice Recipe ~ Chinese Stir Fry - Duration: 3:33.
It's fried rice for dinner. I'm Tess and tonight I'm making a Chinese House
Special fried rice with shrimp, chicken and beef. Stay tuned!
For this Chinese
House Special fried rice I have some shrimp, sliced chicken and beef.
I'm preparing all three the same. Seasoning all with a pinch of salt. I have two egg
whites that I'm whisking and dividing among all three meats along with some
corn starch. Giving them all a good stir and setting to the side.
You will be able to find this recipe and the list of ingredients in the "SHOW MORE" section below.
If you click on the word "SHOW MORE" it will open and reveal this
recipe, links where you can purchase some of the items that I use and much much more.
If you have a chance please check it out.
I've made my jasmine rice yesterday and refrigerated overnight. I have all my
veggies prepped and ready. First, I'm cooking all the meats separately. I have
my heat on medium-high adding a little oil and the meat. Letting the meat cook
for about 10 to 15 seconds before stirring. Cooking for 2 to 3 minutes or
until the meat is done then I'm removing from the pan and setting to the side.
Next, I'm cooking the eggs. I have my wok on medium heat and I added some oil.
I have the two egg yolks left over and I added another egg. Giving them a good whisk.
Cooking and chopping into little pieces.
Once done I'm removing the eggs from the pan.
And we are ready to put this Chinese House Special fried rice together. In my
wok on medium-high heat I added more oil, minced garlic and the whites of garden onions.
Cooking and stirring for about 15 seconds and then adding in some diced
carrots and bell peppers. You can use the vegetables that you have or like.
Cooking and stirring for a couple minutes. I'm also adding in a couple diced red
chilies for some heat and this is optional.
I love peas in fried rice.
Stirring in to combine and then I'm adding in the rice, the shrimp, chicken,
beef, the eggs, oyster sauce and some mushroom flavor dark soy sauce.
This is
going to give this fried rice a rich flavor. Cooking and stirring until
everything is well coated with the sauce. Finally, I'm adding in some chopped green
onions, one final stir and it's ready to eat!
This is quite a hearty Chinese fried rice with all the protein. Lots of flavors and
textures! If you have a minute please remember to check out my other Chinese
fried rice video recipes and my Asian recipe playlists for lots more ideas and
recipes. I hope you give this Chinese house special fried rice dinner a try
and enjoy.

2 Minute Tip - My New Desktop Essentials Mat from We R Memory Keepers - Duration: 3:43.
hi everyone welcome to Hedgehog Hollow today I want to just do a quick review
live call it a 2-minute tip I was browsing around on scrapbook comm and I
found this cool little at all I keep looking for a small cutting mat that
would work for me they could just kind of grab what I wanted to cut something
now I do of course have my glass mat but sometimes I just want like little
self-healing mat that I can do something on and I found this one and I've been
really impressed by it so I want you to share it with you it's a we are memory
keepers and it's magnetic as well so it's six seven inches this way and it
also has a metric on it as well so Greg was quite a fan of having the
centimeters on it too it also comes with this little magnetic
ruler so you can see there it comes with this magnetic ruler it sticks on and
what I really like is yes I can absolutely use my temples mat I have all
of my tools on there as well but just sometimes I have a load of medians on
here and I just want to be able to go over here and cut something so it's just
really handy because I can uncut on this surface right kind of gets cranky if I
start cutting on this surface and he's like no you can't do that so this is why
I grabbed this one but I also like the fact that this ruler was magnetic
because it meant I can grab my cardstock I can pop it on here I can line it up
just like this I can pop my ruler on and my ruler stays in place it's also nice
and small it's perfect for us card makers and my ruler to line up and now
my ruler stays in place you can see I can kind of do this and it's not going
to move anywhere on me and it's also nice because I can grab my craft knife
I like the tonic tim holtz Wow and I can put my knife up against it
and drag against it and then I can move and it cuts through nicely so again it's
got the metric it's got my imperial so I like the inches Greg likes it's
centimeters and as you know he has started crafting with me so I do have to
think about feelings about my tool choices and you can also cut on the
reverse side as well if you want to and your ruler will also stick on the
reverse side so if you just wanted to cut something and it was a little bit
messy and you didn't want to get it on this side you could kind of get some
medians and things on this side you're not gonna ruin your grid either
I think it's nice with that little bit of wood grain on it just kind of add a
little bit of pretty into our craft room so just a very kind of quick review
tutorial 2-minute tip however we want to call it here at the hollow but just a
product that I am loving here in my craft room and I thought you might love
it too and perfect for those of you who maybe don't have room for a glass mat
and need something to cut on so thank you for joining me don't forget to hit
that subscribe button and ring the bell links our course in the video
description for you and any coupon codes we have for you as well and don't forget
to sign up to our newsletter we send out every Friday and we also add all of the
latest crafty sales and coupons in there for you as well and give us a thumbs up
if you enjoyed our two-minute tip today and I'll see you again very soon happy

미니멀라이프 100일! 변화 13가지 #12: 100 Days of Minimal Life! 13 Changes (ENG SUB) - Duration: 13:13.

I threw over 100 items in 100 days.
And I gave it to subscribers who need it ^^
(Please refer to Ep.7 of Principle of emptying)
'one empty per day' is?
It's an act of emptying one item a day.
It's still a starter,

# One week Meal Plan 13 definite changes in 100 days Take a small refrigerator without a freezer
Minimal Life The biggest change in 100 days is the kitchen! Among them, I think it is important to stay with a small refrigerator without a freezer.
7) Do not use a large refrigerator Retained from January 8, 2019
When I use two refrigerators, I find it hard to find out where the ingredients are. But now I can see the ingredients in the refrigerator at a glance.
Finally Turning off Large Refrigerator
8) using a small refrigerator without a freezer Retained from January 9, 2019 So, I have to plan weekly meal, I have to keep the food divided.
9) Prepare a weekly meal and buy only a small amount of food and eat it subconsciously. Retained from January 9, 2019

OTRA VEZ! Se Rompio el Crossfire! OTRA VEZ! - Duration: 19:54.
These Crossfire are starting to piss me off
I need my crossfire!
You just watch me get in
and everything falls apart
Good afternoon everyone!
hope you're having a
great day
the universe is a b!tch
today
I was getting gas
and on my way to get
the new carbon fiber
splitters installed
and then take these
headlights to eusebios
when as i'm diriving out of the gas station
I hear a big pop!
and the car goes into neutral
I honestly thought
I got hit from behind
and all of a sudden
im in the middle of the street
the car won't go anywhere
and i'm trying to get the car
to get the gear
and it wont happen
so this dude
that owns a detailing
company
runs to me
and tells me to steer in
before any car comes
and he pushes me here
thanks to him
I owe him
so now
he brings the mechanic
from the gas stations shop
and they thought same as me
that the cable of the shifter
might have snapped
and the car went into neutral
which is an easy fix
but after checking
he realised
it was the Dif
something broke
and the driveshaft
spins
but nothing happens
so honestly
even tho I thought to myself
this might be good
now I get a new dif
I honestly don't know
if i'll be able to
since we don't know
what exactly broke
he also asked me
if I had seen any oil stains on the ground
and I did
but since we had changed the oil recently
engine oil
I thought the stain was of some residue
so now confirmed
the dif was leaking
and sure as hell sucks
he also asked me
if I had fallen into
any pothole recently
and well even tho it wasn't recent
the leak could be since back in october
when I fell in the massive pothole
and broke several parts
so honestly
i'm annoyed as fack
that after 48 days of having the car get fixed
2 days go by
and i'm back at square 1
who knows how long this will take to fix
I might not have the money to spend on this fix
i'll have to wait for the insurance to pay
this ruins all my plans
my videos
everything
honestly I have no idea how i'll make this bad
into a good
so as I wait for the flatbed
i'll skip to tomorrow
when I'll go see the new car
I hopefully by
that I end up making a deal with the owner
and hopefully the crossfire fix
isn't to expensive
and I get to buy the new car
and fix the crossfire
and stay in my budget
so after all that
which you guys won't see the car i'm going to buy
i'll go over to eusebios
and take these headlights
which end up looking great
so techinically thats it for this video
Crossfire broke
again
new car coming
no idea when
and eusebios headlights are awesome.
so stick around
enjoy some free spanish
and as always
thank you for watching
and i'll see you
on the next one

News24 - Nobody's laughing at us any more, says Man United's Phil Jones - Duration: 3:42.
Phil Jones reckons resurgent Manchester United are having the last laugh after being written off earlier this season
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have come from 12 points off the top four to being favourites for a Champions League place — and for their last-16 tie against paris Saint-Germain, which starts at Old Trafford on Tuesday night
Jones said: "Everyone's going to take us seriously now. We might have been a bit of a laughing stock at the start of the season — but certainly not now
We've proven that in the last 10 or 12 games. We're improving, still getting better
" Saturday's 3-0 win away to Fulham means United have now won 10 of their last 11 and drawn the other since Solskjaer succeeded Jose Mourinho in December
Solskjaer's adviser, Jim Solbakken, was at Craven Cottage and held talks with United's co-owner Avram Glazer and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward after this latest impressive display
Jones added: "There's positivity about the place to grind results out when we're not playing well, to play forward
To play with intent and purpose and that's exactly what we're going. You can see it in every game
We're creating a number of chances and putting them away." United are also still in the FA Cup — they visit Chelsea in the fifth round next Monday — and are unrecognisable under their interim boss
It is a far cry from the first half of the season, when pundits and Reds fans alike were convinced the squad was not good enough and that signings were urgently needed
Jones added: "It was tough for everyone involved. Everyone at the club, the supporters, everyone
But it's about becoming stronger and seeing that through. "I've said in the past, we've not achieved anything yet
We're under no illusions of that but we're heading in the right direction." Jones also hit back at his critics after earning himself a new deal
The England centre-back, who helped win their most recent title in 2013, put pen to paper on a fresh four-year contract last week
That show of faith from the club has sparked criticism from fans questioning his quality, but Jones said: "Listen, I don't lose sleep over what people say about me
It's football. I've had criticism in the past and I'm going to get criticism in the future
I don't care. "I have a wonderful family, wonderful friends and I play football for Man United
I've been given an extra contract and I'm thankful and grateful for that. It's great
"

friends were thrilled when you mentioned Tondo in the Miss Universe Pageant.
My question is just a message for little girls growing up in such a stigmatized
society like Tondo Manila, what is your message for them? It's really just tell
people or tell your parents what your dreams are because if they, if you find
that they will support you, that is such a big thing. I really believe that you
have that support group and if not you will find it along the way of people
that will believe in you. Because that's really important not only believing in
yourself but finding people who also believe in you. And I myself would do my
work so that I will further emphasize that and give children in that area the
opportunity to dream because I really feel that that's it's as simple as that.
It's as simple as believing in our kids giving them that chance that they can
either choose to take it or choose not to but at least they had the choice.
Interviewing her was such a joy because she answered every
question thrown at her eloquently and with such grace and such poise.
Like a true Miss Universe! Here, watch the rest of the press conference.
Hello everyone, good afternoon!
You know let me just open it with a very brief introduction of Miss Gray. You know
that Miss Gray took home the Miss Universe crown on December 16 in Bangkok
and I'm sure she brought the crown here in New York.
[music] Please describe your typical day in New York City.
Oh it really depends. But now I'm going into New York Fashion Week so it can
consist of fittings of shows going to events, meetings yeah, or even packing to
go to somewhere new. It really does depend and being a Miss Universe you do
have to be flexible and be on your feet 24/7.
[music] Will we see your trademark lava walk at the New York Fashion week?
And as for my love we'll walk in the Fashion Week, I will be attending. I won't
be walking but you'll probably see it at homecoming.
[music] How was the Super Bowl experience?
it was wonderful! You know what it was my first taste of American sports let alone
the Super Bowl which is a huge deal here in the States. It was my first time learning
about American football but what a way to do it. I actually was very surprised
going into the NFL honors and seeing that they not only focused on the
players achievements but how they contributed back to their community. So I
came out of that event feeling very inspired and I did pick up a little bit
of wisdom there too so it was a very special evening.
[music] Why is it important to you to promote Filipino designers?
It's so important to me because as a Miss Philippines yes I wear the sash, but
if I were to remove the sash I wanted to look like a Miss Philippines. And I feel
like a lot of people don't realize that we had that to offer in our
fashion because we have an amazing Filipino designers. Our textiles are
unique to us and nowhere else in the world and I felt like if I could just
share that in a way. I know it doesn't encapsulate the whole of our culture but
it is a small aspect that I feel like, especially my age group would really sit
up and pay attention in that fashion industry and it made me so proud.
Especially in my national costume that even fellow Filipinos were messaging me
saying Cat I never knew about Mindanao and Pinalak or I never knew about
Baybayin and you know just different aspects of our of our culture.
Our tradition that I was able to share in that way and for a fellow Filipinos to
sit up and be like I'm rediscovering my own culture. That made me so proud that's
why it was so important to me.
[music] Catriona talks about Bicol.
I've been there only a handful of times. I went there for the initial time
with my mother that was very sentimental for me because um we drove by like
her school where she went to primary school, and the church that my grandma
used to bring them. I never had the opportunity to meet my grandparents on
my mother's side so to feel that kind of connection through my mother to them was
very special for me. I love the food in Bicol I also did an ATV ride up the
Mayon Volcano, one of the bases so I really loved that also. But yeah just seeing
my family there, it's really a sentimental place for me more than anything.
[music] What countries are you most excited to visit?
I would love to go somewhere I've never been before. Um and because you know
just experiencing a new place as Miss Universe, being able to do either an
event there, or maybe even work for a charity there I think that would be such
an amazing way to look back and think of my first time in this country was like
this. And to experience it in that way. So anywhere that I've never been before
[music] Catriona thanks her team.
I have a very big team. Carlos Buendía Jr. for my Passarella and performance
aspect. For my Jelly Eugenio, May Francisco, Brent Sales for hair. For Q&A
Nicole Cordoves and Carlos Buendia Jr. And also Jojo Bragais, Justine Aliman,
Jolo Luarca. All of my team of stylists. It's a big team. It takes a village to
make a beauty queen. So thank you Cat. Thank you Con Gen.Thank you everyone
for coming here.
[music]
Miss Catriona Gray is meeting with members of the Filipino community here in New York City.
A lot of people attended. Everyone's so excited to meet Catriona Gray.
[music]
So we are now here on the streets of New York. Catriona Gray's event is finished.
Catriona is so nice. She was generous with her answers.
[music]
So if you are here in New York City, you should be prepared to walk. Because this is
a walking city. Even if it's a mile or two, everyone walks here.
It's not advisable to take an Uber or a Taxi because traffic is horrible and you'll
just be wasting time. Also avenue blocks usually don't have a train system so there's no choice but ti walk.
[music]
We are walking to Jollibee! We are making this day a Filipino day to a T.
So we're going now to Jollibee in 8th Avenue. I think we have to walk 2 more blocks
to reach Jollibee.
[music]
So here in New York, pedestrians usually don't follow the traffic signs. Even at "STOP" people still
walk. They don't abide by the signs. As long as there are no cars, they cross the street.
[music]
So we are now here on 8th avenue, where Jollibee is. I just realized that we have walked quite a distance.
From 50th street and 5th avenue to 39th street and 8th avenue.
[music]
We are now here in Jollibee. Yey!
[music]
So if you are visiting New York, there are 3 Jollibee locations in this area.
One here in Manhattan and then there's one in Queens, and then there's one in Jersey City
So you have options. Just a heads up, here in Jollibee Manhattan
they don't have burgers. They're saying that because their kitchen is small that
they don't have the capacity to cook burgers, that's why they don't serve them here.
And also if you wanted to get palabok, it's not available here as well.
And also they don't have halo-halo. They only have halo-halo sundae which is
of course a totally different thing and they don't have the real halo-halo.
[music]
Hope you guys enjoyed my Filipino Day vlog featuring the Miss Universe Catriona Gray
and of course dinner at Jollibee Manhattan. And if you did enjoye it, please hit the
like and subscribe button. Hope to see you guys next video! Thank you guys for
watching. Thank you guys so much! Maraming Salamat po! Bye!!!

The rival who WANTS Liverpool to win the title - Duration: 3:32.
Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser admits his admiration for Liverpool's style of play means he wants them to win the Premier League
Fraser and his team-mates were on the receiving end as the Reds maintained their challenge for a first championship since 1990 with a 3-0 dismissal of the Cherries on Saturday at Anfield
It extended their unbeaten home league record to 34 games, matching the second-longest such tally in the club's history
And Fraser, when asked if Liverpool have the look of potential champions, said: "Yeah
They're going to be there, aren't they? I've got nothing to do with it, but I would like to see them win the league
"I like watching good football. If Man City win it, Man City win it. I just like watching good football, and I like the way Liverpool play
They've been waiting for it for a long time, and with the players they've got, they'll do it, I think
"They only got beaten in one game, and you know what it's like. People say they're under pressure
Video Loading Video Unavailable Click to play Tap to play The video will start in 8Cancel Play now "They're not, are they? Everyone gets beaten, and they're still at the top of the league
I just think it was a little blip." Bournemouth defender Steve Cook was impressed by the backing of the Anfield crowd for the home team
"You could see that the crowd were going to play a major part in the game," he said
"I haven't quite heard an atmosphere like it today, especially when they scored. "The atmosphere here today was really good
The Liverpool fans got behind their team. I'm sure they're going to play a huge part from now until the end of the season
" Of Klopp's side, Cook added: "The way they work, the way every one of their players is willing to graft and run and they look after the ball so well
"The way they attack is really difficult to defend against. They don't really give you much chance to get your game going
It's really tough to play against. Keep up to date with all the reaction to Liverpool's win and transfer rumours here "On this showing, it's hard to see Liverpool dropping too many points again
But this is why everyone loves this league, because you never know what you're going to get
"If they go on to win the league, I'm sure they'll fully deserve to do it." The truth about the Anfield crowd - and why Saturday was unprecedented for Liverpool

CATRIONA GRAY PRESS CON in NYC PART 1 WITH ENGLISH CAPTIONS Philippines Miss Universe New York City - Duration: 10:28.
Really just had this love developed for our Filipino textiles, and as I'm wearing
some today. I really fall in love with our fabrics and our symbolism and like
my ear cuff and stuff, so I would love to have a business that reflects that.
That would also give back to the communities that would make those fabrics.
[music]
Catriona Gray in NYC brought to you by Jeepney Channel
Hello everyone, good afternoon! I just want to say thank you everyone for being here
today. I feel like I've taken a step back home to the Philippines seeing you all.
I am a little bit homesick but I am going back for my homecoming
mid-february. So it's this month. I'm very very excited. I want to first say thank
you to Con Gen Cristobal for having me. Miss Olive and everyone from the staff
here for making this possible for me to spend a little bit of time with you here
today. This place holds a very special place in my heart
ever since 2016 where I was taking very good care of from the Philippine
Consulate and I am very very happy to be back. It's been a wonderful two months so far!
And I am really really so excited to go home and see everyone for
the homecoming.
[music] What kind of preparations did you make for the Miss Universe pageant?
Well, preparation in general happened about May 2017 in preparing for Binibining Pilipinas
for the 2018 class. I was a very individualized approach that was
catered to me that I trained for and I can say that Pia would have had a very
different training approach. So to any young girls watching it really is about
finding a team that will really support you and cater to building you up whether
it be in your skill in walking and speaking and whatever it is you need.
You need to surround yourself with good people that will give you that support
system that sense of family because going through a pageant isn't easy.
It really requires you to have people around you that really lift you up
constantly and I am very blessed that I have that and I can say that that was a
very big part and what allowed me to get the Miss Universe crown.
[music] What's the secret to your training for Miss Universe?
I can't say that it's really the training that makes the girl because you
work with what you have and I really feel like the girl is a big part of that.
Uhm, there have been girls that have approached me and said Cat like what's
the secret to your training but I said, girls if you only knew how hands-on I
was and how much work I put in when no one was watching, when I was by myself
you could have my exact same team and it wouldn't guarantee you the same results.
So I really feel like it originates from the girl you have to have that drive for
whatever reason you find it. For me it was to fulfill a purpose through my advocacy.
For another girl it might be something else, but it's that drive and
I'm sure Pia will agree with this that gets you through those times when
you are tested. When you are faced with a challenge that might make you feel like
giving up. It's that drive that will push you for it, and you could have the best
training in the world but if you don't have that drive you'll never make it to that stage.
[music] Do you agree that the Philippines is a powerhouse of beauty queens?
I think we're definitely setting a new standard. [laughs]
[music] Has your perspective in life changed when you became Miss Universe?
Definitely, I've really made such an effort every step of the way to remain humble through
it all because with this great success I always remember what I went through to
get here. All the people that helped me get here. It was definitely not done by
myself. But you know what I'm so blessed to be able to like really think and
consider that you know next year I could buy a retirement house for my parents.
Be able to provide for them in that way and really have this platform. To do all
that work and those projects that I've been dreaming about for my charity. So it
is such a magical time for me. So many things that I would love to do and now
that I have the opportunity to do that I'm just so excited.
[music] What's the biggest thing you've learned regarding duties of a Miss Universe?
Well definitely over the last few weeks I've learned that I just have to be
constantly on my toes. Because yeah, we're told one day okay next week we're going
here we're taking a plane here we have this event, you have this, and and as a
Miss Universe you just have to adapt to every certain situation, and try and be
your best, full of energy and and try to also work my cause in there somewhere.
And also I've just learned to take control of my free time to really
think and plan what I can execute throughout the year.
[music] Where do you see yourself in five years?
I would love to have my own business but with a livelihood program. I've really
just had this love developed for our Filipino textiles. And I'm wearing
some today. I've really fallen in love with our fabrics and our symbolism and like
my ear cuff and stuff so I would love to have a business that reflects that.
That would also give back to the communities that would make those fabrics. I would
love to be able to have a career in music. Perhaps my own album that I've
toured or be able to perform and have people sing back to me my own song. That would be fantastic.
[music] How do you plan on pushing your advocacies as a Miss Universe?
It definitely would be around the topic of education. Because education not only
lends itself to education in the sense of giving free education to places like
Tondo Manila. Education also means about educating people and bringing awareness
to subjects like HIV/AIDS so being a Miss Universe I'm not just focusing on
the Philippines any longer I really do want to expand my reach
whether that means working with different organizations around the world,
but even learning from them. Maybe a certain country like here in the States
has applied a certain program in regards to HIV for example that I could learn
from and perhaps suggest back at home in the Philippines. You know I want to have
that role as a Miss Universe and I'm sure this year I will definitely have
the opportunity to do so.
[music] What steps are you going to take to increase HIV/AIDS Awareness in the Philippines?
It's really been a personal link that drew me to this cause. And upon
being a volunteer at Love Yourself Philippines, talking to volunteers and
also having friends who have their own experiences or a friend who's had an
experience or a family member who has had an experience, there is an incredible
amount of fear around HIV and AIDS and also people don't know the truth about
it. Because at the end of the day it is a medical condition but we've stigmatized
it so much there's so much fear attached to it and as a consequence we have a lot
of young people or people of all ages but mostly young people who are at the
most risk, just are scared to get tested, are scared to ask the question to a
medical professional. How can I protect myself? What should I look out for?
What do I do if this would happen? You know and because of that fear,
lots of people aren't getting tested. So as a Miss Universe that's the one thing
that I want to address. Showing that getting tested for HIV is like we should
treat it as if we're going to get our blood health check-up, or getting you
know our regular checkup, our regular physical. It should be seen in that light
not in something that should be feared because people's lives, people that are
so young as 15 are getting their lives defined by HIV and it shouldn't be that
way, it doesn't have to be that way, and I just want them to know that.
[music] Will you be doing charity visits while in the Philippines this February?
I will be doing a variety of charity visits and of course, to young focus in
Tondo Manila. I'm really looking forward to it. The Paraiso Bright Beginnings
Project actually reached its fruition in 2017 where that building was open for
the students. So it's been open ever since.
[music] How would you like to be remembered during your reign?
I want to be remembered as a Miss Universe who really had advocacy at her
core. Because that's really who I've been for the last three years. You know I'm
more than happy to do the events and the photo shoots and the glamour aside.
But I want to be remembered for the work that I did for the charities because
that for me as a human being not as a title holder, is fulfilling. That's what
makes me go to bed at night and feel like I've done something worthwhile.
And if I can be successful in raising a certain amount of money or impacting a
certain group of people in such a way, then I'll look back on my ear and say
that I did a good job
[music]
[music] The Universe is mine
