two ways of adding documents such as
presentations or word process files to
your course.
One way is dragging and dropping as
we've seen in an earlier video. If you
can't use drag-and-drop, this next method
uses Moodle's activity chooser and file
picker to upload files. Both ways need us
to turn on the editing by clicking the
link in the gear menu top right then in
the section where we'd like to upload
the document we click the link Add an
activity or resource. This brings us to
the activity chooser and we scroll down
to Resources. A document is a resource
and we're going to add a file so we
click File twice to go straight to the
setup screen. Name is important because
the name is what the students will see
on the page when accessing it. The
description is also important.
You may or may not want a description
but if you do and you want it displayed
on the course page, tick the box. Then we
arrive at the file manager and again if
your browser allows it's possible just
to drag the file straight into here, but
we are going to click Add, and this takes
us to Moodle's file picker which we will

now the other options. We can choose or
browse for a file and then click to find
the file we want; we can change its name
if we want to - we don't have to; we can
change the author name, change the
license if we're not happy with the
default license, and then click to upload
the file. It's worth exploring some of
the other settings such as in Appearance.
We can display the size of a document,
useful if your students have poor
internet connections, and we can also
display when it was uploaded so let's do
that. If we now save and return to course
we can see our file displayed on the
page with its upload date, and note
too that like our presentation file above
it it has a useful icon which also shows
students what type of file it is

Hey guys! We all know how important
product reviews are to the success of
your Amazon listings, and automated email
campaigns are one of the most powerful
ways to do this and many other
benefits. We believe there are three
specific emails that every Amazon seller
should send to their customers in order
to build rapport and to maximize their
chances of receiving product reviews.
Email number one: The confirmation email.
We like to send emails right after an
order is placed and confirmed for
delivery.
This is generally two days before they
receive the product, so it's a great way
to build anticipation for the product.
The goal here is to build rapport and
establish customer support.
We're not asking for anything with this
email. We just want to introduce ourselves,
reinforce why it was a great purchase
and open up lines for communication. As
with all these emails, the timing is very
critical.
So here's the timing that we'd set. Send the
message ASAP after order has been
delivered, and here is the letter itself.
The main points are - thanks again for
your order, see the order details,
here's the tracking number and the
important part -
let us know if you have any issues or
questions and we'll get onto that
straightaway! So we're making it really
easy for them to contact us about any
issues they have. This is also a great
way to reduce any negative feedback or
reviews as we ask them to contact us
first.
The great thing about automated emails
as well, is that you can use these auto
fill tags. So it will populate the buyer's name
and make it feel like a really personal email,
which customers will appreciate. These
autofill times will also populate things
like the product name, their order number
with a link to their order on Amazon, a
contact link and much more. Email number 2:
2 days after delivery.
We like to send customers an email two
days after the product has been
delivered. This is when they're still
excited about the purchase and they've
just had their first impressions of the
product.
The goal here is to ideally get seller
feedback or a product review. Again it's
just touching base with the customer and
letting them know we're here if they need
anything.
We then also ask if they'd mind
leaving us feedback or a review. Because
we've sent them the first email and
offered great support it gives us more
permission to ask them now for a review
in return. The way you ask is important
here too. Note that we didn't demand a
review but in a very friendly way
ask them - but only if they were happy.
This will definitely come across much
better. Email number 3: 7 days after
delivery. Now a week after having the
product, the customer has presumably
experienced the full scope of the product.
This email is a great way to bring the
purchase cycle full circle, provide
customer support, reinforce the value of
the product and our brand in particular,
and generate a product review. The goal
here is that if we haven't received a
product review yet, to ask for one last
time and unless they reach out to you or
purchase again, this is the last
impression you leave on them so you want
them to remember you as having great
customer service all the way through. So
those are the three emails that we
highly recommend from our extensive
testing, in order to provide great
customer service and also increase your
chances of receiving product reviews. Of
course you can and should tailor the
messages for the audience that you're
serving.

Enrolling learners 3.2 - Duration: 4:09.
Enrolling learners. There are a number
of ways in which your students can
access your course ,for example your
administrator might enrol them for you
or they might be automatically enrolled
from outside, or they might be able to
create their own accounts on the Moodle
site and then enrol themselves into
your course. In this video we look at how
you the teacher can manually add
students to your course and how you can
find out the other ways in which they
can access your course. If we click the
Participants link in the navigation drawer,
and then click the gear there, we see
Enrolled users and Enrolment methods.
Enrolment means how students get into
your course
whereas Authentication means how they
get onto a Moodle site, which we do not
look at here. If we click Enrolment
methods we can see the different ways
that they're able to access or be
enrolled into a course. The first one we
see is called Manual enrolments. This
means that students can be enrolled into
the course by their teacher. Note that
for security reasons on our Teaching
with Moodle MOOC on the learn Moodle
site manual enrolment is not available.
Guest access here has its eye icon
closed so that means that currently no
guests can look at this course, but the
teacher can enable it by clicking the
icon. Self enrolment means that users
can enrol themselves by clicking a
button.
This is currently disabled again because
the eye icon has a line through it.
Clicking it to open it would allow us to
give students permission to access the
course themselves. If we now go back and
then look at Enrolled users, here we can
do two things: we can see the list of who
is already enrolled in our course and
that's currently just the teacher Sam,
and if there are a lot of users, we can
search for them by using the search box
at the top and we can filter by the
different ways in which they've been
enrolled
and by the role which they have in
the course. Now remember that on our
Learn Moodle site teachers are not
allowed to enrol students directly into
their practice courses, but if we go into
a different site and a different course
we can see how to do this. To enrol
users manually we click the Enrol users
button and then choose the role that we
want.
Currently it's set to Student . As a
teacher we don't normally have the
rights to enrol other teachers into
our course. We have to ask permission to
do that. We then scroll down and choose
the users that we want,
so for example to enrol this student we
click the Enrol button, and then we can
scroll down and finish enrolling the
users. Now this is fine if we just have a
few people to enrol into our courses.
However if you have many it might be
worth investigating other ways of
allowing them access. Let's go to a
different course in a different Moodle
site and explore cohorts. Here is the
Enrolled users screen again but this
time if we click the Enrol users button
we see a new option:
Browse users and Browse cohorts. A cohort
is a group of users created by the site
administrator or manager and we can add
cohort members individually from here or
from the Enrolment methods screen where
we were before, using what's called the
Cohort sync method, and note that as they
are added, you can also add them to any
existing groups in the course but you'll
only see this Cohort sync method if your
site has set up cohorts.

Quiz: automatic grading. If you want to
assess learners formatively or summatively
with questions for which there are
specified answers
Moodle's very powerful quiz enables you
to do this. We can only look at a few of
the features of the quiz in this
screencast but it's worth exploring more
yourself and in the Moodle documentation.
Quiz allows you to use different types
of questions not just multiple choice,
and it also allows you to add, as here,
media, images, video, sound files as part
of your questions. If we go to our course
and see how to add a quiz
the first thing to note is that in the
More link from the gear menu we can
access the Question bank. When a quiz is
created in Moodle you create the
questions separately and store them
separately so they can be reused by you
in a later quiz or by your colleague in
the same course in a different quiz. So
if you wish, you could start by adding
your quiz questions to this Question
back here and then make a quiz another
day.
But we'll make our quiz straight away so
to do that we turn on the editing from
the gear menu and then in thesection
we want the quiz we click Add an
activity or resource. This takes us to
Moodle's activity chooser and we scroll
down to quiz. Quiz is an activity because
the learners are interacting with it. If
we click it once we get information as
to how best to use the quiz and then we
can click the Add button or if we
understand about the quiz and don't need
to read the information, we simply click
the radio button twice and this will
bring up the setup screen. The first
thing that we do is create the front
page if you like of the quiz: the name
and the description which quiz learners
will see, and if you want the description
to appear on the course page just tick
the box Display description on course
page. There are many different settings
in a quiz and it is worth exploring all
of them. If there's anything you're not
sure of the ? help icon gives you extra
information. For now we're just going to
click Save and display and we have a
blank quiz and what we need to do is to
start adding some questions which we can
do by clicking the button Edit quiz or
Edit quiz from the gear menu.
We then see Add and if we already have
questions we could add a random question
to our quiz or a particular question
from the question bank which we might
have added to earlier or colleague might
have added to earlier, but we're starting
anew from nothing,
so let's click to add a new question. We
are then presented with a list of
question types to choose from and just
like with the activity chooser if we
click the button next to the question
type we are presented on the right with
some information as to what that
question type does and note that
although most of these questions are
questions where you provide the answer,
it is possible by choosing Essay to have
learners typing an essay which we
would then manually have to grade.
Note also there is a Description
question.
This isn't a question type as such; it's
just a text editor into which we could
add an explanation, some instructions
images, videos or sound. For the purposes
of this quiz I'm just going to add a
multiple choice question. We are then
sent to the setup screen for this particular
question. We have to give it a name
although the name doesn't appear in the
quiz, but it's important because it's how
it would be recognized in the question
bank in the future, particularly if we
have a lot of questions ourselves and
perhaps shared with colleagues.
In the question text ,that is where we
type the actual question, and then when
we scroll down what we see will depend
on the question type but we will always be
able to add general feedback for any
question and then in the answers because
it's multiple choice we have the first
possible answer with the grade 'None'. We
add None if the question is wrong or a
hundred percent if it's right,
however, there are, as you can see ,options
in between.
We can give specific feedback for each
individual answer and if we want to do
more than just write simple text we can
use the icons in the text editor so
again we write our choices, choose
the grade and we continue. When we click
Save Changes we have our first quiz
question which we can preview by
clicking the magnifying glass icon.
We then go on and continue adding
questions to our quiz.
Finally looking at a quiz that's already
been made
it's easy to change the order of the
questions by dragging them up or down,
and to add or remove page breaks by
clicking on the icon, and we can divide
our quiz up into sections as well.

Glossary: add key terms: Learn Moodle 3.2 - Duration: 3:26.
Glossary: add key terms. A glossary would
typically contain key terms and
definitions in a subject area, for
instance this theatre glossary .With the
Moodle glossary you can browse by
alphabet, category, date or author, and you
can also search for particular key terms.
Because Moodle encourages collaboration
learners can add key terms to a Moodle
glossary, so you could create a glossary
where they build their knowledge
together. Let's make a glossary in our
Moodle course. To do that we need to turn
the editing on from the gear menu top
right and then in the section where we
want the glossary - I'm going to add mine
to the writing section - we click the link
Add an activity or resource. This brings
up the activity chooser. Glossary is an
activity because learners interact with
it and so we click it once to get some
information about ideas for using the
glossary and then the Add button at the
bottom, or we can simply click it twice
to open it straight up.
Name is important because this is what
the learners will see on the course page.
In the description you can add the
instructions that you want to give them
for writing their terms, and you can
display this description on the course
page if you want by ticking the box.
There are many other settings and you
can find out about these and explore
them by expanding the links, such as if
we click Entries we can decide as our
teacher whether to allow all entries to
appear immediately or whether we want to
moderate them first,
whether we want to allow duplicate
entries - in other words can two learners
post the same term? - and whether we want
to allow them to comment on each of
these entries.
Linking glossary entries means that if
term is added to the course page or
items within the course then it is
automatically hyperlinked to the
glossary entry. This makes use of filters
which we explore in a separate video.
Likewise if we click on Appearance we
can decide how we want the glossary to
be displayed for instance how many
entries to show per page. Once we're
happy with all of these setting, if we
scroll down and click Save and display,
that takes us straight to the glossary
where we can add our first term, and we
do this by clicking the Add a new entry
button. This is what the learners will do
when they contribute to the glossary. For
concept we take the actual word and in
definition we type what it means.
It's possible to add keywords and also
to add attachments to the glossary,
and you see that as we go through each
entry, we can decide whether it should be
automatically linked or not, and whether
too match whole words or just parts of
words inside the glossary entry.
This is quite important to think about.
Finally we save the changes and we have
a glossary with one entry in it already.
If you're considering trying the
glossary activity it's worth also
exploring the Random glossary entry
block.

Book: connected pages: Learn Moodle 3.2 - Duration: 3:00.
Book: connected pages. A 'Book' in Moodle is
a series of connected pages. You can
think of it as a mini website or as a
manual, as for instance this book on a
school Moodle, which is a departmental
policy document.
A book is useful because you can include
not only text but links, images sound
and video such as a Youtube video here.
Our Teaching with Moodle course uses
books for the tutorials and you can see
that books have a block called a Table of
Contents showing the different sections
or chapters. To add a book to our course
we first turn on the editing from the
gear menu top right and then in the
section we want to add our book, we click
Add an activity or resource. This brings
up Moodle's activity chooser. Book is a
resource because learners just read it;
they don't interact with it. Clicking the
button once gives us information in the
right pane about how best to use a book
and clicking twice takes us straight to
the setup screen. We give our book a name
and if needed a description and if we
want to display this description on the
course page we tick the box. In
Appearance we can decide how we want the
chapters - which some prefer to think of
as pages - of our book to be displayed ,for
example Numbered. We can also choose how
we want to move around in our book. We
could simply have the Table of Contents
and no navigation or images which are
the arrows you see in our teaching with
Moodle books here.
They are using numbers for chapter
formatting, or you can also choose Text.
That means the names of each chapters
are shown as you can see again in our
departmental policy document which has
no numbering. It's up to you to decide
the best one for your learners.
When we click Save and display we can
start adding content to our book and
once we've made one chapter you can see
that its name appears over on the Table
of Contents we can add another one by
clicking the + icon and then when we've
saved a second one you see there's an
arrow allowing us to change the order of
the chapters. The Configure icon lets us
do some edits, the X will delete our
chapter and the eye will hide it from
students.
So we can continue with our book by
clicking the + icon again.
Finally if we click on a book and look
at the gear menu we see that it's
possible to print books as pdfs,
something your students might be
interested to know.

Course restore: upload your course to
Moodlecloud. It's possible to save the
course you've made on one Moodle site
and reuse it on a different Moodle site.
When you save your course, the process is
called 'backup' and when you add it or
upload it to a different site
the process is called 'restore'. In this
video, we'll look at how you can restore
the practice course you made during our
Learn Moodle MOOC into your own personal
MoodleCloud site. You can also restore
your course to the Moodle site of your
school or organszation, but the way you
do it may be different, so you need to
check with your administrator first. Make
sure you saved or backed up your
practice course using the video on
course backup to help you. Make sure you
have it in a safe place on your computer.
Our teacher Sam has her practice course
on her desktop here, and she's logged
into her Moodle cloud site where she's
an administrator.
You may not be an administrator on your
organisation's Moodle site and that's
why you should ask for their advice if
you want to restore your practice course
there.
We click Site administration in the nav
drawer
find Courses and click Restore course. We
can then import the backup file, either
by clicking the button to upload it, or
as our teacher Sam is doing here,
dragging and dropping it in. When we
click the Restore button we're prompted to
check the backup details and we scroll
down and click Continue.
Note how it appears we are doing in
reverse what we did when we backed up
the course previously. On the next screen
we decide if we want to add this is a
new course or into an existing course.
Again you might experience this
differently if you're restoring to your
organisation's Moodle site and you don't
have administrator rights. If we restore
it as a new course we need to choose the
category. Our teacher only has one
category, Miscellaneous, on her MoodleCloud
at the moment so she clicks
that button. Clicking Continue then takes
us to another screen to check the
settings and we press Next again.We can
move through this quickly because we've
already checked the settings. We can edit
the name and details of the course and
decide which activities to keep. We move
on again; we do a final check and then
press Perform restore.
Once the process is complete, there is a
green success message and Sam's
practice course from Learn Moodle is now
available on her MoodleCloud site.

With the editing turned on, if we click the Add block link
in the nav drawer, we can see that there
are many blocks which can be added to
our course and it's worth exploring the
list by adding them and seeing what they
do and by looking at the Moodle
documentation on each block.
Remember that the mobile app doesn't display blocks
and if you're on a small screen,
blocks will display underneath the
course sections, so think carefully
before adding a block to ensure it is
relevant to your students' learning.
Here are some examples.
Later in the course we
will learn how to add quizzes and
assignments and then if you add the
Activity results block you can add a
competitive element to your course page
where the highest scorers or even the
lowest scores can be displayed.
You can use this block with any gradeable activity.
The Comments block allows your
learners to add short comments to either
your course as a whole or to a
particular activity.
Latest announcements displays in a block
the notices you've made in your
announcements forum.
You can also add a Random glossary entry block.
Later in the course we look at
adding a glossary where learners can
contribute items to the glossary and
then the Random glossary entry block
will allow entries to be displayed on
your course page directly.
Upcoming events displays in a block items you've
added to the calendar which you can
access from the nav drawer or by adding
the Calendar block itself.
Let's take a look at another course with
the standard Boost theme and we can see
examples of blocks.
There is the Latest announcements block,
Random glossary entry,
Activity results
and the Comments block.
Students can delete their own comments
if they wish and teachers can delete any
inappropriate comments.
So why not go and take a look at some of the other
useful blocks you can add to your course?

HTML block.
An HTML block is a
customisable block allowing you to add
images, text, links or even embedded code
or widgets to blocks at the side of your course.
You don't need to understand
HTML code to use it.
You can add more
than one block as you see here where we
have for instance an image of the
Arc de Triomphe in Paris which links to a
website of Paris tourism,
and we have tweets from a twitter hashtag.
To add a block we go to the gear menu
top right and turn on the editing
and then from the Add block link in the nav
drawer we choose the block we want:HTML block.
Let's add an image and link to
that image. So when the block is added,
we need to configure the new HTML block
by clicking the gear icon. We give it a
title - I'm going to call it "Bonjour"
and then in the content we add the image we want.
I already have a public domain
image of the Arc de Triomphe on my
desktop so I'm simply going to drag it in.
Note the text editor I'm using is
Moodle's Atto editor. If you are using a
different editor such as TinyMCE you
won't be able to drag and drop your image in.
You can change this from your
user menu preferences. We could simply
save it and display it now, but we're
going to link this image to a Paris
tourism website. So if we select the
image and then click the link icon, we
can then paste in the URL of the Paris
tourism website which we will have
already found and copied in another tab.
When we save the changes we will see the
images there and it's linked to the website.
and that is how you add HTML blocks -
but optionally - if you would like
to try something more challenging -
you don't have to - but let's try adding
tweets from a Twitter hashtag. How about
#learnfrench as this is Sam's course, our teacher?
For this we need to expand the
editor and click on the HTML code link
because we're going to embed some code fromTwitter.
We then need to go to the
settings of our own Twitter account and
then choose Widgets and then Create new
and Search.
We type in the hashtag we want
with any customisations and then click
Create widget this then produces some
code we can copy and paste back in the
Atto editor.
It doesn't matter if we don't know what
it actually means. We go back to our
editor, paste in the code save and there
we have, along with our image HTML block,
a Twitter block with the tweets from the hashtag.

Course backup: save and reuse your course
As a teacher it's useful to have a copy
of our course that we can keep safe
outside of Moodle perhaps to reuse it in
a different Moodle site such as our
organisation or school site, or add it to
our personal Moodlecloud side to
continue developing it, or even give a
copy to a colleague. Moodle calls this copy
a backup, and to make a backup of our
course we need to click the gear menu
and then Backup. This is how you would
save a copy of the course that you will
have created for the Teaching with
Moodle MOOC. When we click the link Backup
we need to follow the instructions to
decide what exactly we want to bring
over with our copy of the course. and note
if you're an experienced Moodler you can
jump to the final step if you know what
you're doing, but for us beginners the
first thing to know is that there are Xs
next to Enrolled users and User
information.
This means that because we are teachers
and for security reasons we can only
back up the actual course content
resources and activities we can't back
up the information, the data that our
learners have included. If you need to
have a course with all of your learner
data then you need to have your
administrator back it up for you.
We basically want to include everything
else and so we scroll down and click
Next. On the next screen we are presented
with a list of all our activities and
resources and we need to decide which
ones we want to keep. By default all of
them are selected so for instance if I
didn't want to include an item i could
untick that box and again, we scroll
down and once we've decided which
activities we want to include and leave
out, we click the Next button.
We are then prompted to check all of our
settings. Our backup course has been
given a file name,which we can rename if
we want or leave it as it is, and then we
scroll down to make sure that all the
settings and included activities other
ones we want. If we made a mistake we
can simply go back to the previous
screen and change it. Now it's time to
click the button to perform the backup,
and we get a message that the backup
file was successfully created. Clicking
the Continue button will take us to
where we can get a copy of this backup
file to download it and save it offline.
If we scroll down we can see our User
private backup area, which tells us the
course and the size of it and the time
that we actually backed it up,
so if you want to get this out of our
Learn Moodle site to, say for instance, to
keep on your computer. a CD or USB drive,
you click the Download button and save
it.
Note you cannot open this course upon
your computer; it will only open on a
different Moodle site, so to add your
course into a different Moodle site such
as Moodlecloud watch the video on
Course restore.

Assignment 3.2 - Duration: 4:27.
Assignment: submitted work. As a teacher
you can have your learners submit work
through your Moodle course. This saves on
paper and it's better than email because
when they submit you'll see a list of
your class only on your Moodle course,
not cluttered up with emails from
colleagues and organisations.
What they submit can be uploaded files
or text written directly on Moodle or as
we see if we look at this example of an
assignment, because you can type your
instructions into Moodle's text editor, it
doesn't only have to be text. You can add
links images or videos relevant to your
assignment, and an assignment maybe for one
individual or it may be for a group, and
as a teache,r you can choose whether or
not to see the identities of your
learners as you are grading it.
So if you want to add an assignment we
need to turn the editing on from the
link in the gear menu and then in the
section where we want to add the
assignment we click the link Add an
activity or resource to bring up
Moodle's activity chooser.
Assignment is first on the list and we
can either click it once to read the
explanation about an assignment with
some examples for using it and then
click the Add button at the bottom ,or we
can simply click the radio button twice.
This then takes us to the assignment
setup screen. Because assignment is so
powerful it has many different options.
We're only going to look at a few in
this video. The name is important because
this is what the learners will see on
the course page and then in description
you add what you want them to do for the
assignment. If you want to include images
media links you click the appropriate
icons. I'm just going to write a short
description of what they must do and if
you want to display these instructions
on the course page you tick the box. You
can also upload additional support
documents for them if needed.
Scrolling down you can then choose when
you want them to send in their work with
due dates or a cutoff date and what's
important next then is to decide your
submission type - in other words - if you
want them to upload one or several files,
you make sure that fFle submission is
ticked and you can choose the number of
files you want them to send in. If you
want them merely to type an essay using
Moodle's text editor you select Online
text and you can also get Moodle to give
them a word count.
Once you've done this we can actually
scroll down and save it and return to
course and we're ready to go, but it is
worth exploring some of the other
options. Click the question mark help
icon against any if you need more
information, for instance in Feedback
types, setting Comment in line will allow
you to type directly on the learners'
work just as you would when grading on
paper.
In Submission settings you can decide
if you want them to accept an agreement
that their work is their own. In Group
submission settings you can get them to
work and submit as a group
and in Notifications we can choose
whether or not to be messaged when
students submit and also whether or not
by default students will be messaged when
we have graded their work. If we click
Grade we can see that it's possible to
choose a number out of which the
assignment can be graded and it's also
possible to create our own scales which
we will look at briefly in another video.
If you tick Blind marking then you
won't initially be able to see which
learner has submitted which piece of
work, and Marking workflow and Allocation
are useful when sharing the course with
other teachers to divide up, moderate and
monitor the progress of grading. But for
now let's just save and return to course
and our assignment is ready for our
students to submit.
