Film Courage: You had referenced the movie THANK YOU FOR SMOKING in at least of of your
videos [on Adam's Youtube channel].
Forgive me, I haven't seen the movie but I want to make a point of seeing and I've
heard from so many people that it's amazing.
Adam Skelter, author/story artist: It's SO good!
It's amazing.
Aaron Eckhart is so charismatic in it.
Film Courage: And where he [the character Nick Naylor] says he has this BA in…
Adam: …Public Relations…Oh?
A BA in bull?
Film Courage: Right!
And he's the kind of guy that can talk a girl into anything.
And so in that movie [THANK YOU FOR SMOKING] how would you break down the text, the subtext
and the context?
How much do you think [the theme] this relates to the entertainment business in the sense
that they are trying to make it seem that smoking is okay, they are trying to portray
that all of this is okay.
Adam: See what I think is interesting, I mean ultimately I love that movie because it's
a polemic, it's presented as morally, it's about moral ambiguity.
There's this larger theme which is basically saying like culture…this is a really complex
breakdown, it's a complex movie I love it, it's one of my favorites.
But at its core it's about this guy who is trying to sell smoking but what he's
really trying to do…I mean it's an exercise in rhetoric but what he's really trying
to do is say I don't want people to determine my life for me.
I want to take control of my own life.
I get to decide if I want throat cancer or not.
Which is why at the very end you're like if my kid wants to smoke I'm going to light
it up for him.
Because it's not really about him saying like it's okay to smoke.
The whole story is this journey of him facing these…largely it's one of the themes that's
really close to me which is large tribal groups trying to impose their values on individuals
and his individuality coming back and saying "No, I'm going to do what I want to do
and you're kind of a villain for trying to impose that on other people."
And it does it in such a clever, polemic way and smoking is really just the pretext that
gets us into it.
It's something that most people largely condemn.
I don't smoke and it's not healthy but at the same time who are you to decide that
for other people and that's what that movie is asking about but from a GREAT rhetorical
position.
Film Courage: So would you say there are similar themes [in the movie] in terms of story, the
entertainment industry and what we view as acceptable to watch?
I think Rob Lowe plays the studio executive (I just watched a few clips) and he's so
great.
Adam: He's so GOOD!
Film Courage: And he's pitching people "Yeah I think it's like…"
And he names all of these blockbusters and that's how he sees the world is based on
all of these hit movies.
Adam: See I don't know?
I've been thinking about, especially the entertainment industry and like a lot of people
especially on your channel, the interviews you guys are doing lots of discussion about
you know what are the best rules for survival in the entertainment industry.
And for me there's this metaphor that just kind of describes is simply which is that
the entertainment industry is like a harbor and we have a constantly shifting tide, the
water is going up and down.
And that tide is the amount of tension that people are willing to pay to things.
Now the industry does the best they can…and we're talking by industry specifically we're
talking about studios, distributors, production companies they are trying to understand which
way the water is going, where it's moving and most of the time as a writer you are trying
to swim in these choppy seas because you've built your craft and you're trying to dock
in the harbor.
Now the studios have these docks and they're the harbor, right?
And because the water is constantly shifting the best you can do is make your craft as
adaptable to whatever the needs of the harbor are.
So they are looking for whatever is going to draw in…this metaphor may break down
a bit if we get too specific.
But the idea is basically everybody has to adapt to the shifting tide and the studios
especially they have the most at stake.
So they are looking for stories or writers, craftspersons that have built crafts that
are adaptable to the shifting tides and you know there are some studios that have built
these massive mega harbors and your little dinghy comes up and it's just going to get
beat up against the water because it will be swallowed up because the water is changing
so much.
Now especially with the changing of streaming and distribution models are radically shifting
and indie film is shifting and people are making movies for less than a million dollars
the harbor is dramatically different than it was five years ago, ten years ago.
So when it comes to the industry, all you're trying to do is find your path in.
The best thing you can do is focus on developing your craft as much as possible.
Making it as adaptable as possible which is really just the process of being able to delve
into your metaphors and really work on being able to tell the stories that are compelling
to other people and no one has the right answer to that.
We're all just figuring that out.

we're here at Fushimi Inara it's so beautiful but so crowded before we came
in we had to do the cleansing ritual Moe taught us how to do it it was very cool

through some of the torii gates and now we have just stepped off to the side to
this kind of calm beautiful little area and we're going to go back and hit
we're going to have some ramen

welcome to very very busy Osaka station we had an amazing day
in Kyoto is our guide Moe. It was an amazing afternoon it was very very cool
surprisingly cold and unseasonably cold but it was
unforgettable. Moe took us to
Fushimi Inari shrine and a few other shrines as well and we had an awesome
ramen lunch at a teeny tiny restaurant in the gion district and now we are back
in Osaka and we're at this beautiful Plaza we're getting ready to go to the
Pokemon Center as a treat for our son you've got to see the lights
meet ugly baby Moe said that if you tickle ugly baby's
feet you get good luck so lots of good luck where are we Moe what is this place
Shinsekai we're in Shinsekai downtown area. It means
new world so cool right here omu rice

we had nine wonderful hours this lady in Moe who's a fantastic guide we so enjoyed
meeting you thank you so much for everything that you've done we saw all
the best sights of Osaka and Kyoto today in a very short time and we're going to
miss this girl she's always welcome to come to the US so I know until
next time oh good job perfect it's just after 7:00 p.m. and we're back on the
ship here in Osaka Jr wanted to stop by the kids center briefly before our 7:45
dinner time we got a little bit tired earlier than we expected today in Osaka
been a really long day we met moe this morning at 9:30 and our tour was
scheduled until about 7:30 but we decided to cut it short by about 1 hour
just because we were exhausted and felt like we really wanted to just kind of
get back on board and relax but it was amazing a little bit colder than we
expected but we had the perfect clothing everything was great but our son has a
cute little Rudolph nose tonight poor little thing he was chilly all day but
we had a blast there was no rain it was just a nice dry cold I guess it's kind
of unseasonable anyway super interesting process when you're getting back on the
ship in Japan you actually have to go through a customs process and today we
also had to surrender our passports for our entry into Hong Kong and also I
believe to start the visa process for our visit to Vietnam
it's really strange walking through customs and handing our passports over
to the authorities but they were really really well organized the line was less
than five minutes long and we got it done amazing day in Osaka can't believe
we're already leaving Japan after three days this has been just such an
incredible family experience for us and we're definitely in love with the
Japanese people in culture and we can't wait to come back and spend a little bit
more time here so we are off to get cleaned up pick up jr. from the kids
Center and go enjoy dinner in the main dining room with our awesome stuff today
might just go down in history is one of the longest days we have ever had on a
cruise but it was so good it was so satisfying I don't know how we would
have done Osaka and Kyoto without our guide moe today just navigating the
train stations is pretty crazy I think we probably could have done it but it
was definitely more relaxing and enjoyable to do it with a guide so if
you're ever ever looking to travel to Osaka or Kyoto or many of the cities in

to book this tour today it was totally worth it but I want to give a huge shout
out and virtual hug to all of the subscribers that we have met so far on
this cruise I've written their names down I think I have them all memorized
but I just want to make sure I don't mess up where they're from so the first
people that we met on the cruise were Andrew and Elliot from Sydney who got
our son this sweet little koala bear they knew that we were gonna be on the
ship and this was just a really sweet treat to meet them at breakfast and next
we met Mimi and Mira from Brisbane it's so nice to see them up at the buffet as
well and then today it was so awesome to meet Bob and Helen from Taiwan on the
train from Osaka that was really cool and fun and then last but not certainly
not least tonight at dinner we got to meet Murray from Vancouver and there's
just something really special and amazing about being this far from home
but meeting all these familiar faces and being able to give hugs to all of our
subscribers so that is how I want to end tonight
vlog is just with so much gratitude for the people who come up and said hello to
us on board the diamond it's been a really really special day if
the cruise were to end after these three days we would be so full and so happy so
the next few days we are having too much needed see days we do need some rest the
jetlag is really creating a hot mess of our sleep schedule we really haven't
been sleeping very well at all so I'm hoping we can rest a little bit and have
a really restful day tomorrow for junior editors 10th birthday which should be

Weather update: extreme heat through southeast Australia, 25 Jan. 2019 - Duration: 1:54.
Hello from the Bureau's Extreme Weather Desk. We're seeing extreme heat
through southeastern parts of the country. Yesterday we saw all-time
records being broken across South Australia with 49.5°C
being the highest temperature recorded yesterday—that was at Port Augusta—and
Adelaide recorded its highest temperature on record with 46.6°C.
For today, we're seeing that heat through inland New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania
and Melbourne could see its hottest day in almost ten years, getting up to 44°C.
Also very warm through Tasmania as well: Hobart could get up to 37°C.
But the real heat is lying through inland Victoria and also Western New South Wales
—getting up into the high 40s through places like Mildura, Swan Hill and Broken Hill.
With any kind of hot weather we do see elevated fire risk
and for today we are seeing Severe to Extreme fire dangers through Victoria and
Very High to Severe fire dangers through Tasmania; and looking at the satellite picture
you get a sense for the dangerous fire and heat situation playing out today.
We are seeing very hot and gusty northwesterly winds ahead of this
cloud band and within the cloud band itself we are seeing some dry lightning
strikes which could spark up some fires throughout today. The good news is that
there is a cool change on the way: It'll move through Adelaide in the early hours
of Friday morning and it's expected in Melbourne around 3 o'clock in the
afternoon, but it will bring quite a gusty southwesterly change with that.
For Hobart, the temperature decline would be a little bit more gradual and we'll see the
temperature decline through the evening. And that cool change will move through Victoria through
the rest of Friday and into Saturday, but unfortunately it won't quite make it into
New South Wales and the AC T before the weekend. So a hot day for Canberra
tomorrow—up to 40°C—up into the low 40s for Western Sydney as well.
And we will see that cool change move through sometime on Sunday afternoon.
So with this hot weather around, remember to stay cool and hydrated; and with elevated fire danger
conditions, remember to follow the advice of your local fire services at all times.

One of the ideas behind doing this run, was to build teamwork,
and to get the different MSCs and the different sections to be able to go out there and compete,
and do something kind of fun together.
I believe this event ties in to the Marines being war fighters.
What we do as Marines, there has to be a lot of camaraderie.
There has to be challenge.
You have to be physically fit.
We have to be spiritually fit.
Go, go, go, go, go!
Push it to the end!
When we get a chance to do an event like this at a place like MARFORRES,
which is a headquarters, where there's not a lot of interaction amongst Marines.
This type of opportunity gets the Marines to get out and compete against each other,
and build those relationships and camaraderie and that way, you have done some fun events
with each other. You get to know each other a little bit and build really that Marine Corps team.
I believe that's what a lot of Marines join for.

welcome back to speller math tutorials in today's tutorial we have a triangle and
its median and with that information we're gonna solve for X if you find this
video to be helpful please subscribe like and or share and let's begin here
we have a triangle labeled ABC it has a median a Z and we have some given
information the segment BC has an expression for X plus 2 and let's go
ahead and put that in place so BC well BC is this entire length here and we see
that there is the 4x plus 2 and then we have Z C and we see that expression
there is X plus 3 we know that we have a meeting here because that's what's given
so with the meeting we know that a median bisects the the segment opposite
the vertex so so we see here that BC I'm sorry be Z would be congruent to Z see
because of what we know about a median so with that we see that since 4x plus 2
is the entire length if we take half of that then that will give us BZ so let's
go ahead and put that into place so here let's go and change the color and let's
do 4 X plus 2 and when we divide that by 2 that's going to give us this length
here and we know that these two segments are congruent so that means I can set
this expression equal to X plus 3 now at this point I can put the X plus 3 over 1
and now I have a proportion so I'm going to cross multiply to solve here for X so
I'm going to multiply 2 by these 2 terms so I end up with 2x plus 6 is equal to
well 1 times this numerator is just going to be the numerator so that there
is a 4x plus 2 and now I'm just going to combine like terms in this case here I'm
going to move the 2x to this side by subtraction so I'm left with 6 is equal
to 2x plus 2 because I subtracted 2x from this 4x and then I'm going to
subtract - from both sides to isolate this 2 X by
itself so subtracting 2 from here and subtracting 2 from here 6 minus 2 is 4
and I'm left with 4 is equal to 2x and now to isolate the X I'm going to divide
both sides by 2 and in doing so 4 divided by 2 is 2 and that 2 divided by
2 just please know just leaves me with X so here I see that the value of x is 2
but let's go ahead and verify this solution so let's first thing let's do
is let's substitute this back into this first expression here so this series
really going to be 2 plus 3 and we know that 2 plus 3 is 5 and again I got the 2
because this serves an X so now when I substitute into this expression here
that I have for BZ I know that there should also give me a 5 so let's go
ahead and do that so here let's again let's change the color and let's do 4
times X well X is a 2 plus 2 and then that there is going to be divided by 2
well 4 plus 2 is 8 and then I have 8 plus 2 over 2 well 8 plus 2 is 10 over 2
and 10 divided by 2 is 5 so I see that I'm I've verified my answer because I'm
showing that the segment BZ which would be this for X plus 2 divided by 2 gives
me 5 and when I substituted in the 2 for segment ZC I also get five all right

What's going on viewers and subscribers of the Etobicoke Central Railways?
I'm Chris, and this is the very first one-on-one update style video that
I'm actually trying - so first time, I've never done this before just kind of
off-the-cuff, unscripted getting you up to speed what's new and what I've been up to
for the last couple months since some of the last videos that I've posted in 2018.
The beginning of January if you haven't seen it on the Etobicoke Central Railways
Instagram page - the layout and how I got started and basically my
journey through model railroading was actually featured in a magazine.
So I guess you could say - I'm published I suppose? Digitally anyway - so the magazine is
Off The Tracks Magazine, they're based in the UK, it's a digital model railroad and
train magazine and Etobicoke Central Railways was featured and basically the
article, like I say, it covers how I got started into the hobby, how things
evolved, some of the struggles that I faced and why I model the era's that I
model. So I'll put the link down in the description that you can take a look at
and kind of breeze through the magazine if you haven't seen it already and have
a read - yeah, I think it's great maybe this is kind of the start of potentially
being in future magazines as well too, so really happy with how it came out and
big thanks to Off The Tracks Magazine for featuring the Etobicoke Central Railways
in their issue #4. The layout itself, where is it at? Well...
it's been probably about a year now since I've kind of conceptualized the
first design of that new expansion and I've really been dragging my feet on it
but not necessarily because I just haven't had the time. I'm being really
particular with how I'm going about the build whereas in the past I felt like
I've kind of rushed things a little bit you know it's more eager to get the
layout built and kind of get trains running but now I'm really going through
all the fine details and making sure the wiring, the electrical, how the
turnouts operate - kind of the the full picture - right. I'm trying to get this
entirely perfect - at least in my eyes anyway
to where I want it to be - so that the layout can can be something that'll last
for decades after and something that's a real true test of time.
Stay tuned, I'm really hoping to get some new and fresh content out there for
new updates, possibly some new product reviews as well.
I might even dabble in some live streams, I know I've kind of done one or two in
the past of just actually like had a live rail fan cam but maybe wanted kind of
deep dive - maybe have some live sessions of me actually working on the layout or perhaps
a project. If you want to keep up to date with everything that I've been doing

Service records obtained by DailyMail.com show Nathan Philips served in the Marine Corps Reserves from June 1972 until May 1976 when he left as a private after disciplinary issues
He was an antitank missileman between October 1972 and February 1973 but was never deployed himself and spend the remainder of his service working as a refrigerator technician until 1976 when he left service following disciplinary issues
It was not immediately clear whether he was honorably or dishonorably discharged on Thursday morning
In interviews since the conflict, Phillips has never said that he served in Vietnam but instead called himself a 'Vietnam times veteran
' On Facebook, he has described himself as a 'Vietnam vet' and shared photographs of a his Warrior Medal of Valor which is an unofficial medal given to Native American veterans
In a January 2018 video on his account, he said: 'I don't talk much about my Vietnam times,' but said he had been honorably discharged

'I haven't introduced anybody to my daughter yet, as I want to keep that part of my life separate while she's young, but I hope to one day meet someone special enough
'Currently, Sabrina is seeing a couple of men from the website, and said she feels very content with where she is at in life
'To anybody who may be sceptical, I'd say that, just like with any other date, you can walk away at any time and say no to anybody you don't feel comfortable with, or anything you don't feel comfortable doing,' she said
