what 's up everybody? today I'm here to talk about Ben Affleck reportedly out as Batman
when I first read about this on deadline it broke the news today I was like huh
man does that mean the haircut was next how are you gonna stab lished University
keep changing the actors but after I really read the article and I did some
digging this is actually not all bad news first of all this project the new
Batman that is supposed to come out in 2021 is a younger version of Batman so
it's not Frank Miller's Batman if you don't know Frank Miller's Backman is the
older version of that one he's about 55 if I'm not mistaken and that's the batma
that Ben Affleck has been portraying and I really enjoyed his portrayal and I
think that he was a great Bruce Wayne and Batman I have no problem with the
actors itself I love Harry Carver Superman I love him as Batman what I did
like about Batman V Superman was a story and but so when this story broke today I
was like oh man what does this mean but first he was meant Bennet was meant to
direct this film however when this was passed on to Reeves I was wondering what
does that mean does that mean that he's going to act in the film and now it's
really reported and no he's not going to be acting on the film and he seems to be
okay with it because he gave the movie its blessing on a tweet today he said
excited for excited for the Batman in 2021 and to see Matt Reeves vision come
to life so he is definitely on board and if you don't know he's still listed as
an actor do sir executive producer in the film so he's still involved with the
film which means that he's still keeping a relationship with Warner Bros which
also opens room for him returning so that this actually does not mean that
he's out out and he's never going to play Batman again it only means that
this version that we are going to be getting is a younger version of Batman
and I'm totally okay with it and actually I'm quite excited
see what the article saying exclusive Warner Bros is dating their first
rendition of Batman for June 25 2021 this is the one that Matt Reeves has
been attached to as a writer and director Ben Africa we here will not be
downing the Dark Knight tights after playing the Caped Crusader in Batman V
Superman dawn of Justice Suicide Squad Justice League and that's because this
movie will focus on a younger Bruce Wayne so the good thing is that this
means that it's basically a younger version of Batman it doesn't mean that
there now flick won't be returning and then continue down here Reeves boarded
that many February 2017 taking over for Affleck's who was originally set to
direct off a script he wrote with DC's Geoff Johns Affleck we understand has a
busy plate as deadline exclusively broke he is starting in April and producing
the feature adaptation of Katie Alice Marshalls novel I am still alive which
Universal won in a competitive binding scenario the the two-time Oscar winner
is also starring in Warner Bros Gavin's o'connor drama torrents afflict worked
hard on the Batman story but knew he wasn't the right one for this particular
version it searches underway for the new Dark Knight the Batman will not be based

very it's very good that Warner Bros is taking its time with this character
because you know what if they're going to give me a good product I have no
problem waiting definitely not you know as long as they really give us an
incredible film I'm fine with the wait please
good because you know screwing up beloved characters like Batman or
Superman is just ah such a heartbreak for us the fans and but I'm really
enjoying this whole idea that they're you know it seems like they're finally
sitting down and and planning these things which is what I've been begging
them to do from the beginning let's see what this is saying here Warner Bros has
officially dated Matt Reeves the Batman for June 25 2021 the suitor has also
dated a brie booted The Suicide Squad which James Gunn is in talks to direct
for August 6 2021 a rebooted hmm I'm gonna start all over again I wonder if
it's going to be the same actors probably not because you know we have
Margaret cuter still working on birds of prey so let's see what else
Ben Affleck will not be returning to play the Caped Crusader which had been
expected for some time as reason Reeves will be handpicking the next Bruce Wayne
so there you have it guys I believe that this is actually looking very promising
thinking the fact that Ben Affleck is you know he approves of this and like I
said the fact that this movie is focusing on a younger version of Batman
you know his detective skills it doesn't mean that they can jump back to Frank
Miller's where he's older again and go back to Ben Affleck but I don't know I
mean obviously this is me speculating that's exactly what I wished that it
will happen but and also that's how I believe that you could merge the
universe you know it taking all these other films into consideration but
variety is talking about a reboot of Suicide Squad which could be something
like a soft reboot because we still know we know that Margot Kidder is still why

Advanced English Lesson: Using ADJECTIVES as NOUNS - Duration: 9:04.

Hey, everyone.
I'm Alex.
Thanks for clicking, and welcome to this lesson on using adjectives as nouns.
Now, this lesson is particularly useful if you are writing academic essays, or if you
are writing academic or general essays for language tests, like the IELTS or the TOEFL.
This terminology that you will learn today can be used to talk about social groups, you
know, that all have something in common with one another.
And to use an adjective as a noun, all you have to do is add "the" in front of the adjective.
Now, this doesn't work for every single adjective.
I mean, you could say: "The happy have happier lives than the sad", but "the happy" doesn't
really describe a known social class, so I would stay away from that and try to stick
to, you know, the stuff that you see here, when talking about different social classes.
So, again, you can use this to refer to and categorize people by their social class or
their condition in life.
For example, if you want to talk about rich people, you can say: "the rich"; poor people:
"the poor".
So, for example, here's an essay question that you might see on something like the IELTS:
"Should the rich be taxed more than the poor?"
Okay?
So: "Should the rich...
Should rich people, you know, have more taxes than poor people?"
Instead of saying: "poor people, rich people", you can say: "the rich, the poor".
Now I'm going to give you some examples of very common ways...
Some very common examples in which we use: "the" plus an adjective to discuss different
social groups.
So, here, we have: "the elderly".
"The elderly" refers to people who are at an advanced age, or you can say: "older people".
Okay?
So, you know, the elderly need to be taken care of by society.
"The unemployed" - people who do not have jobs.
You know, it is difficult for the unemployed to make progress in life, for example.
So, people who don't have work.
"The mentally ill", so these are people who have mental health issues.
The mentally ill do not receive enough support in society, or the mentally ill should have
more support from governments, you know, financial backing and everything like this.
You can also use this to talk about some groups from specific countries, so: "the English",
"the Irish", "the French", "the Swedish".
Okay?
So, you can use it to talk about whole groups from another country.
Not another country; just countries in general.
"The homeless".
All right?
So, you can say, you know: "The government isn't doing enough to help the homeless",
which refers to all homeless people.
Okay?
"The old" - similar to "the elderly", here.
"The old"...
The opposite of "old" is "the young".
So, we can say: "Oh, young people today"...
Or: "The young today need to have more responsibility."
And I put: "the educated", "the uneducated" - people who are educated, people who are
not educated.
You can talk about both of these.
And while I'm looking at these, I realized that I forgot to put a couple very, very important
ones for you guys, so let me do that right now.
Now, these three groups don't completely follow the rule I laid out at the start of this lesson.
So, I said: Use "the" plus an adjective to categorize a social class.
These three classes: "the working class", "the middle class", "the upper class" use
the adjective plus the noun "class" to categorize them, so this is why I left it out of, you
know, these ones because the rules are a little different; it follows a slightly different
structure.
But you can talk about, you know, "the working class" - those who have lower paid jobs; "the
middle class" - those who have medium-paying jobs; and "the upper class", so basically
the rich.
You can use this a lot to talk about economics; the economic situations of different people
in a country, in a society.
Now I'm going to give you guys some pop culture examples of this, you know...
Using adjectives as nouns.
For example: "the dead".
Look at this quote: "We are the dead."
This is a very famous quote from the book 1984 and a song lyric by David Bowie.
Those of you who don't know, 1984 is a dystopian novel by George Orwell in which a totalitarian
government, you know, watches everything that their society does.
So, you know, there is a character who says: "We are the dead", because they break a law
in the world of the book, and by breaking this law they feel they are already dead.
So: "We are the dead.
We are those who will not be alive soon."
Okay.
Other pop culture examples.
I have just a stream of television shows and movies that you might be familiar with.
So, you can say: "Oh, yeah.
Okay, this does exist."
So: The Young and the Restless.
This is a very popular soap opera that I think is still going on; or if it finished, it finished
very recently.
You know, the character Victor - he's got the mustache.
Maybe you don't know, but if you Google: "The Young and the Restless", you will see it's
been on forever.
The Departed - this is a very popular movie by Martin Scorsese, I believe.
Scorsese, and he based it on a Korean movie first, but "departed" just means similar to
the dead; those who died.
The Quick and the Dead is a very popular old western.
Queen of the Damned.
Queen of the Damned is a vampire movie based on an Anne Rice novel.
"The damned" - those who are cursed.
Okay?
Those who are cursed to be vampires.
And: The Beautiful and the Damned.
This was a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who also wrote The Great Gatsby.
And, you know, this structure, you can also find it in the Bible.
The Christian Bible - one of the most popular verses is: "Blessed are the poor", and there
are many, many groups mentioned; not just the poor.
It talks about the meek and other groups.
So, that's it.
I wanted to show you guys that, you know, this structure does exist in everyday common
pop culture.
But the main use that you should be, you know, looking to acquire with these words is to
use it in academic essays, use it in conversations about social issues, social justice issues.
So, talk about the elderly, the unemployed, the mentally ill, the homeless, the old, the
young, the uneducated, the rich, the poor.
All of these very, very important topics and groups to, you know, keep in mind.
