Youtube daily report Nov 9 2018

[Subtitles will have some mistakes] Welcome to a new episode of my answering lore questions from the comments format.

Today's question is about the Ents or Onodrim as the elves call them.

I got two questions, which I feel can be combined very well:

Mistah Bryan asked: How did Fangorn Forest start?

And Tony Gilbert asked: What happened to the Entwives?

In case you wonder: I try to pronounce names as Tolkien described it or it makes sense,

considering their origin.

So Rs are rolled in most cases.

But let's start: In the Third Age and ofc during the events

of "The Lord of the Rings" we know, that Fangorn Forest is close to Isengard between

the borders of Rohan and the Misty Mountains.

All South of Lothlórien.

But interestingly Fangorn Forest was significantly bigger in ancient times.

Elrond mentions this during his Council.

We can read in "The Lord of the Rings":

Time was when a squirrel could go from tree to tree from what is now the Shire to Dunland

west of Isengard.

In those lands I journeyed once, and many things wild and strange I knew.

If we Look at the map, this implies, that there was once a single giant Forest, that

covered Eriador and went down to Isengard, where also Fangorn Forest is.

Treebeard expands a bit on this description later in the books, quote from "The Lord

of the Rings":

Aye, aye, there was all one wood once upon a time from here to the Mountains of Lune,

and this was just the East End.

So this giant forest went from the west coast down to the east.

If we look at the map, we see that Mirkwood is not far away, so who knows, it could have

be connected to it too.

In this primal forest lived the Ents and Entwives.

Sam's uncle Halfast Gamgee tells the story, that he has seen a "tree-man" (tree-men)

in the North Moors of the Shire.

So there could be Ents outside of Fangorn Forest too.

We come later to this.

But what exactly are Ents?

To understand this we have to look at the dwarves' origin story, which I have to cut

down a bit.

A beautiful story, that I can recommend reading.

The dwarves' bodies were originally created by the Vala of Smithing, called Aulë.

A Vala is like an high angel and he's part of something similar to a god pantheon.

However Aulë could not make them sentient and independent of his will - so to say.

I imagine them like puppets in this state.

Aulë wanted to destroy the dwarves, because they were not part of the planned creation

of Eru (who is the transcendent god of Tolkien's universe).

But the latter had mercy and gave them spirits, which made them sentient.

As a result the dwarves suddenly begged for mercy, when Aulë tried to destroy them, which

he did not after that.

Still they needed to be put asleep until the Elves, the Firstborne, awoke, because this

was Eru's vision.

Aulë's wife the Vala Yavanna, who was basically something like mother nature, later asked

for a similar creation, that can be seen as a contrast to the dwarves.

She wanted Ents as tree shepherds to protect the forests from the dwarves, orcs and other

beings, who lumber the wood.

And so Eru sent spirits from afar into some of the trees and they became known as the

Ents and lived in this giant forest.

Not only there, but even in Beleriand, Middle-earth's west coast from the First Age, which was destroyed

in the War of Wrath.

Aragorn's ancestor Beren fought with them against the dwarves, who "stole" the Silmaril

from the elvish realm of his wife's father Thingol.

I talk about this story a bit in my elf lore video, if you are interested.

However in the Third Age Fangorn Forest, which is Sindarin and means "Treebeard", named

after its oldest Ent, is much smaller, so what happened?

In the Second Age during the War of Elves and Sauron, where the One Ring was created

and was about the Rings of Power and destroying the elves, the war destroyed most likely big

parts of the primal forest.

In addition the powerful men from the island and kingdom of Númenor, whose people are

also known as Dúnedain or "Westmen" established settlements in Middle-earth, transporting

wood to their island and destroying big parts of the the primal forest in the process too.

So Fangorn Forest and the other woodland regions in Eriador are what was left of the original.

In Fangorn Forest lived many Ents and Entwives.

For illustration purposes I use a picture of the Shadow of War's character Carnan, who

is a nature spirit and not an Entwive, but visually she works as a female Ent too I guess.

While the Ents wander around and care about the big trees, the Entwives are more stationary

and look after the lesser trees, flowers, vegetables and so on.

At some point in the later Second Age the Entwives left Fangorn Forest, which was probably

much bigger at this point, and went into the eastern regions, to grow their plants their.

They taught men of this region agriculture and those people honoured them greatly.

According to Treebeard in Lord of the Rings and Tolkien's letter No. 144: when at the

end of the Second Age Gondor and Arnor were established and it came to the War of the

Last Alliance, Sauron burnt down this region, where the Entwives lived, to slow down the

march of the Last Alliance.

Burnt down is a bit of an understatement.

He destroyed it with his fire.

This was so devastating, that even 3000 years later not even a single blade of green grass

was growing there.

Through this it became known as the Brown Lands.

But did all Entwives die there?

Quote from Tolkien's Letter No. 144: Some [Entwives], of course, may have fled

east, or even have become enslaved: tyrants even in such tales must have an economic and

agricultural background to their soldiers and metal-workers.

Treebeard believes they are just lost and not dead.

But to me it seems, that they are most likely dead, few captured by Sauron and forced to

grow plants to feed his armies and maybe few of them even escaped to the far east of Middle-earth,

probably still growing plants there.

Tolkien also mentions, that the surviving Entwives could be estranged from the Ents

by the terrible events they have experienced or maybe have become more anarchic.

But if you remember: the mentioned uncle of Sam has seen an Ent-like creature at the Shire's

borders and since other parts of the original giant forest still exist e.g. around the Shire,

it is possible, that some could still live in other regions of Middle-earth.

Another evidence for this is the encounter of the Hobbits with Old Man Willow in the

Old Forest, where Tom Bombadil lives.

In the Extended Edition of "The Two Towers" (film) this event was referenced in Fangorn

Forest, where Merry and Pippin are almost killed by a so called Huorn.

Huorns are most likely Ents, that became more tree-like.

Old Man Willow could be a Huorn too, so more evidence for other Ents and Ent-like entities

in other parts of the original giant forest.

I hope this answers the questions and you understand, why it made perfectly sense to

combine both of them.

Thank you for watching :)

As mentioned in other videos I'm still working in parallel on my "films from the books'

lore perspective" series and hope to finish it soon.

I would also love to talk about Blizzcon and maybe some other things happening in the gaming

industry right now, when it comes to my gaming related content.

Beyond that I will continue with this "answer lore questions from the comments" series

and maybe make another one soon.

They are fun to make.

I can also imagine to let people vote on the topic for the next question.

Also feel free to post new Tolkien related lore questions in the comment section.

If you liked this video, consider pressing the like button and leave a comment with feedback

– I read and answer almost all comments.

In case you want to learn more about Tolkien's lore, check my other lore videos.

If you want to be notified about new content on my channel, feel free to subscribe and

press the bell icon.

Without the bell you probably won't be notified, because I only upload a few videos per month.

Not activating the bell only gives a random chance for a notifications.

So few videos result in few notifications.

I know explaining the YouTube functions at the end of videos is annoying, but people

often forget and it's also not very clear to most users.

In addition all this is very important for YouTube channels like mine.

For the next classic Lore video Tom Bombadil starts to grow on me even more.

It's however a difficult video to make and structure.

I also consider Morgoth, Sauron's Master, as topic, but that is a giant video and those

take tons of time to make.

I also always wanted to make a video about Tolkien's languages and e.g. why I pronounce

some names as I pronounce them, because often a lot of research goes into this and sometimes

it's not clear, e.g. is it Isengard or Isengard or some dwarf names.

An interesting topic in my opinion.

So is the Witchking, I always wanted to make a video about him and the Nazgûl and it's

also an often requested topic, but my list with topics is incredibly long.

So what do you think?

Leave me a comment.

Again thank you for watching and good bye.

Journey Through India: Kolkata | CNBC International - Duration: 10:32.

Come on. Chop some coriander for me.

No, onions will come later when you're more professional.

I'm quite good at onions.

I'm sure you are…

Hi. I'm Tom.

I'm traveling through one of the most colorful and vibrant countries in the world, and with

the help of local knowledge, I'll be trying to find out what makes this place so special.

Join me on a journey through India.

Kolkata, still commonly referred to as Calcutta, is the capital of the eastern state of West Bengal.

While it's now known for its gentle pace of life, back in the eighteenth century the

city was British India's most important trading post and the showpiece of their colonial power.

Home to prominent intellectuals, Kolkata is regarded as the artistic and cultural capital of India.

Kolkata used to be the capital of India at the beginning of the twentieth century,

when it was under British rule.

Victoria Memorial was built around that time and really illustrates that colonial period.

As well as its history, this city is famous for its food.

Bengali cuisine has evolved over time, but Kolkata still remains the ideal place to experience it.

On this journey I've been really keen to try some home-cooked Indian food,

and what better place to do that than in West Bengal?

Fortunately enough, a lady who has lived in this city, has agreed to let me in her home and even cook for me.

Hi. Iti?

Hello Tom. Welcome, welcome. Come in please.

Thank you very much.

Iti Misra is a retired British Airways executive, but has built a second career as a chef.

As well as appearing on a number of Indian cooking shows, she hosts lunches in her home

so that visitors to the city can experience a taste of Bengali cuisine and get a glimpse into local life.

You need an apron? I'm sorry. I don't have an apron.

You don't have an apron for me, and you've got 'queen of the kitchen' on yours?

Then I'm the queen of the kitchen, aren't I?

I should probably be jester of the kitchen.

Yes, you're my commie for today.

Pay attention.

Okay this is roasted mung beans, which we call daal.

It's normally eaten as a first course with rice.

You know most of the spices we use are really not for taste.

They're more for digestion.

Really?

Yes, they all serve medicinal purpose.

And then we will put in a little bit of the chopped tomatoes.

Okay.

More for color than for taste.

There we go.

A lot of Indians are vegetarian.

This is where they get their protein.

Bowl of daal, maybe a couple of chapatis or a bowl of rice.

And that's a meal in itself.

There's a nice color to it as well.

So how long have you been in Kolkata for?

I have lived in Kolkata all my life, I'm a Kolkata girl.

I went to school here, college, married, brought up my children.

Everything in this city, I love this city.

I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Now we will do a fish dish which will be steamed.

Is this quite a traditional dish to Kolkata?

This is very typical of Bengal.

Bengalis are great fish eaters.

So what I'm going to do is I'm going to marinade the fish with some mustard paste.

And then I'm going to ask you to wrap these in the banana leaves.

Okay. It all looks so pretty.

Pretty right?

Now we fold it, this way. And then here and then here.

So you can get ready for Christmas now.

Neatly please. Neatly!

Fold one over there. There we go.

You're a professional. You'll have me out of a job now.

Next dish we're going to do is eggplant, in yogurt.

Kolkata, how has it changed over your lifetime?

In some ways, nothing has changed.

We're still very colonial in our outlook. Kolkata used to be the heart of India.

People came to Kolkata to seek their fortune, but it's considered the backwater now by

a lot of large multinational companies. But still we have a lot of people who come here

for the music, for the art, for the performing arts.

Now we have our prawns.

Amazing, look at those tails.

They're sort of dark blue, purple and yellow. Beautiful, aren't they?

These are freshwater, and we keep the head because that's where all the taste is.

Now we're just going to leave it a little to simmer, and by that time when it's cooked,

we will add coconut milk. Maybe put a couple of red chilis for drama.

Otherwise, how will you know that you're eating Indian food?

Potatoes in?

Yes please.

Not with the water!

Too much water!

There was a doubting Thomas in the scriptures, and there is a Thomas the faint hearted here.

I'm going to place it in the order in which it is to be eaten.

Right prawns. I'm excited for these.

And this, the heart of the banana. Have you ever eaten it before?

No.

Have you ever seen it cooked before?

No.

It's so good. Right, let's try some of the fish.

That is delicious, and the mustard is really, really good.

I also just ate a bit of chili on the fish.

You knew where the chili was.

I know, I wanted to try it and see how brave I was.

Alright okay, it's good for you.

I don't think I'll get anything like this back home, that's for sure.

So what do you do in the evenings in Kolkata?

I have a lot of fun. I have friends. We go out dining or we meet at our club.

Would you like to join me for a drink in the evening?

Yeah if that's ok?

Yes it's very nice, very colonial.

Back in the days of the Raj, it was built.

I was beginning to miss you already.

You can't make me laugh when I'm about to eat.

Traveling from the center of Kolkata, I'm heading north to the oldest part of the city.

Northern Kolkata feels like it's in a bit of a time warp.

You've got these old buildings that line both sides of the street and even the taxis

look like they're from the 1960s.

This area of the city is home to the busy Kumartuli clay making quarter.

It's also where you'll find the stately mansions of famous Kolkatans,

such as India's greatest modern poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Chai?

One of the things you'll notice when you come to Kolkata is the humidity. It is stifling.

So you leave your home, leave the safety of air conditioning and you are sweltering.

So it's important to keep drinking.

As the day draws to a close, I'm heading to the river that runs right through the city.

I've been told the best place to see the sunset in Kolkata is on Hooghly River.

You can hire one of these boats to get yourself right out onto the water.

At roughly 160 miles long, the Hooghly River provides the city with water and serves as

a major transport system for both people and cargo.

It was through this river that the East India Company sailed into Bengal

and established their trade settlement.

Being out on the water, you get a great understanding of where things lie in the city.

You've got the old Howrah Bridge built in the Second World War and the Vidyasagar Setu

which was built in 1992 as the city has expanded.

It's absolutely beautiful out on the water, I mean the views are incredible.

It's also got a really nice breeze just in case you're overheating.

It gets dark early in Kolkata because we're in West Bengal, which is in the eastern part

of India, and I've got a date with Iti which I better not be late for.

So this is the Saturday Club where Iti and I are ready to have our date, and look at this

badminton court with all these huge high ceilings and the railings going around.

It's got a really colonial vibe to it.

Hi Iti. Nice to see you.

Good to see you again.

Thank you for having us here.

The Saturday Club was founded by British officers of the Calcutta Light Horse Regiment in 1875

and moved into its current premises at the beginning of the twentieth century.

And places like this, you know these private member clubs that have been built during the

colonial period, do you think they will last for generations to come?

So it's quite an aspirational thing, you know,

'I'm a member of such and such a club,' which means I have a place in society.

In fact, it's one of the few clubs where women are also on the committee, which was

nice because clubs were supposed to be a gentleman's thing.

It was where they met to get away from their wives but not anymore.

They can't get away from them.

No, they followed them here.

Wow.

Thank you very much.

It's been lovely spending time with you.

Thank you very much Iti, for cooking for me and telling me all about Kolkata.

I enjoyed it so much.

Cheers.

Seeing Kolkata through Iti's eyes has helped me understand how closely tied this city is

to its colonial past. Whether it's the grand private members clubs or the heritage buildings,

reminders of its history can be found on every corner.

But it's also the challenge facing this unique and friendly metropolis, to combine

the traditional and modern in order to help the gateway to eastern India retain its position

as one of the country's most influential cities.

Becky Lynch Refuses Interview Because Reporter Is Wearing Ronda Rousey Merch - Duration: 1:29.

Becky Lynch Refuses Interview Because Reporter Is Wearing Ronda Rousey Merch

Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey are set to square off at Survivor Series in a match that will

pit champion vs champion.

During the build-up for this feud, Rousey and Lynch are throwing plenty of bombs at

each other on social media.

Lynch actually borrowed a couple lines from Eminem in the process recently to throw some

shade at the first-ever UFC Bantamweight Champion.

But the first-ever SmackDown Womens Champion isnt impressed.

The rivalry is getting so bitter at this point that Lynch refused to be interviewed by an

MTV UK reporter because she was sporting Rousey merch.

She schooled her pretty good in the process as well.

It looks like the reporter got her interview, but she had to lose the Rousey hoodie.

Only time will tell how they will book the match at Survivor Series, for all we know,

Rousey could very well experience her first loss.

But one thing is for sure until that day happens, I would be treading very lightly when it comes

to supporting Ronda Rousey anywhere near The Lass Kicker.

Friends what are your thought, Have your say in the comments section below.

Pain During Sex - Duration: 11:23.

Hi, I'm Susan Bratton, your trusted hot sex adviser, and I'm here with Dr.

Jessica Drummond of the Integrative Women's Health Institute and we are

talking about pain during sex, which totally stinks, and we're gonna help you

with it right now. So, Dr. Drummond can you just tell us

what the major causes of painful sex are? Yes, one of the most common causes is

endometriosis which is a complex disease process that we really can't cover here,

but you could call my office and we can do a private consultation. Secondly,

there is a common condition called vulvodynia or similarly vestibulodynia,

which is pain at the entrance of the vaginal canal and the vulvar

vestibule. It's literally a little space between the vulva and the vagina

which is that canal. There is also painful sex in women who have just

general tension and tightness in the muscles of the pelvic floor, which is both these

little tiny muscles that you can see here and the deeper hammock of pelvic

floor muscles which you can see from the inside here. Normally, there's the bladder,

uterus and rectum here as well, but we took those out so you can see the

muscles. And another most common cause the painful sex is low estrogen which is

most common postpartum or in the perimenopausal or menopausal timeframe.

So anytime over age 35, when estrogen levels can drop. Now you have a Three

Steps to Natural Hormone Balance webinar, which I'm going to put a link to below

so that you can watch that. If you think that any part, and it's likely that some

part of your painful sex might be hormonal imbalance, Dr. Drummond has a

really good webinar that I want you to check out. I want to go back to

vulvodynia for a second. It seems to me like there are really two pain

sources at the entrance or the introitus, the entrance to your vaginal canal, so

we're really talking about painful sex. We're talking about the time of

penetration of intercourse and it's like there are, and just tell me if

I'm right or wrong on this, the two big reasons could be this vulvodynia which

sounds to me like it's more of a muscular issue or dryness and irritation,

a lack of resiliency of the actual tissue at the entrance to the vagina from a

hormonal imbalances, or a lack of estrogen that could also be more like

skin pain than actual muscle pain. Did I get that right? Well, it's actually a

little bit of both. Those things overlap. They go hand in

hand, I'm sure. And so vulvodynia is really just descriptive, or vulvar

vestibulodynia, is descriptive of... "dynia" just means pain, and so it's descriptive

of where it is. Pain in the entrance of the vaginal canal right at the vulva and

it could be the entire vulva, the circular area, or just posteriorly.

It's often the skin and the muscles, especially if it's on the bottom

of that vaginal canal, there's usually a muscular component to it, where the

pelvic floor muscles are tight or have difficulty relaxing, but because when

muscles are tight you also have lack of blood flow that can contribute to having

low lubrication as well, and then if you layer low estrogen on top of that and/or

low testosterone, you set up a perfect storm where you've got a

combination of things contributing to pain in that particular region. And one

other thing that's very common as a contributor to vulvar pain or pain

with penetration or the diagnosis of vulvodynia, is some kind of autoimmune

component. So we also have to optimize our digestive and immune health to be

able to optimize the tissue integrity, again that resilience of the tissue. So

it's not so inflamed, red, sort of fragile tissue. Anytime that you

have any kind of candida overgrowth or dysbiosis,

or any kind of acid reflux or tummy issues, and it's all one system so it's

going to affect your vaginal system just as it's going to affect your stomach,

your gut, your throat, your mouth could be inflamed in the entire

lumen, the entire alimentary system. That really makes a lot of sense to me. If

a woman has pain during sex, what are some of the first things that

she can do? She can get her hormones checked. She can go take your webinar and

learn more about hormones, she can watch my videos on which hormone tests to get

and how to test your hormones, she can learn how to massage her own vulvar area

to release some of the tight muscles and bring blood flow in. We have a video

on vagina massage with Dr. Drummond and I that you can watch in this series. What are

some of the other things beyond that that can also help a woman isolate and

then cure or fix or reverse her vaginal pain? So if that self vaginal massage or

doing it with your partner in a relaxed way isn't enough to completely relieve

the tension and pain, I definitely recommend a skilled assessment by a

pelvic floor specialist, physical therapist. So I'm a nutritionist but I'm

also a public floor specialist physical therapists and we exist all over the

world and having that skilled assessment can help you kind of define what are the

key contributors to your pain. Is it more of a gut overlap, are there

problems where because sometimes there's a bladder pain condition and/or

endometriosis and/or vulvodynia. A lot of times these things coexist

together and often they have similar root causes. So relaxing the muscles is

almost always a piece of the equation, but we also want to optimize gut health,

we want to make sure you're doing even simple things like drinking enough water

so that your bladder is healthy or that you have the right kind of bacteria in

your vaginal canal and

around your urethra so you're not dealing with chronic UTIs or chronic

yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis. So having a skilled assessment I think

where where your clinician looks at all of those different pieces can help you

figure out the root cause of your particular sexual pain. It makes total

sense and I'll put a link to Dr. Drummond's website on the notes below

this video as well as a link to her webinar, and I'll also put a link to my

Women's Sexual Empowerment email newsletter because if you were here

because you have painful sex and you want to solve it, there are many

things I cover with regard to moving into pleasure around intercourse and

other areas of sexuality. One of the things that I want to share with you

Dr. Drummond is that I recently video blogged 22 episodes of a vaginal

rejuvenation series. I did a vaginal rejuvenation stack. I

had no pelvic floor issues. I had hormones completely in balance, all in a

really nice topped-up bioidentical hormone replacement, everything was good

and I still had pain at the entrance to my vagina

all the way around and I just couldn't solve it so I

decided to try the Femi-lift laser up inside the vaginal canal. I also had the

Revive by Viora which is on the outer labia. It kind of plumps that tissue up

and gets the collagen back in it. And I also had two o shots which is orgasm

shots which is platelet-rich plasma, PRP, injected from your own body

back into your clitoris, and all three of those things. It took five femi lifts for

me with the vaginal resurfacing, the laser resurfacing, of my vaginal tissue

to bring strength back to it, but I had also done a lot of laser

resurfacing of my skin because I get a lot of age spots

So I thought if it worked on my body so well, with my skin on my face, I bet

it'll work in my vaginal tissue. It really did. It took a couple of Femi

lifts procedures and ultimately I ended

up doing five to get the tissue back, to being robust enough to not have pain

with intercourse, but it was that finally fixed it for me. So I really want

to share that because I'll be 57 this year, and I really feel like

those particular stack of procedures turned back the clock on my

vulva to feeling like I was 30 or 35 again. It shaved 20 years off em. I

didn't realize how much as I had aged I'd lost sensation, even though I feel

incredible sensation, I have incredible orgasmic capacity. I engorge very easily

because I've had so much vaginal massage from my husband we've been having an

Expanded Orgasm practice for 14 years now where I've gotten regular vaginal

massages. I have the happiest vagina in the universe, but I still have

pain and so I think that if you have painful sex... I'm glad

you're here and I really want to encourage you to figure out what

you've got to do to fix it because I want you to have sex for the rest of

your life. It is so healthy for you, such a good thing for you that

people like Dr. Drummond, people like myself, we are the vanguard of women's

sexual pleasure and health, and take a look at the links below and ask us

questions. We will reply because we are here for you. It's our passion, right Dr.

Drummond. Yeah, and I would just say that I was at a conference just last

week and there's new evidence that PRP shots the O shots are

starting to be looked at in common medical research and

we're finding some good results, so stay alert

that that hopefully will be more widespread and available soon.

It's fantastic. I highly recommend it. So you take good care of that vulva,

girlfriend, and we are here for you if you need us. I'm Susan Bratton and I'm

here with Dr. Jessica Drummond. We'll see you on the other side.

Ashley & Ben Roethlisberger: 5 Fast Facts | Heavy.com - Duration: 12:50.

Ashley & Ben Roethlisberger: 5 Fast Facts | Heavy.com

Ashley and Ben Roethlisberger have been happily married since 2011.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Carolina Panthers on Monday night, all eyes will be on Big Ben as he tries to help his team reach a 6-2 record on the season. Roethlisberger, 35, will have the support of his wife, who has been cheering him on since she met him in 2005.

"I'm a happier person, I'm in a happy place, but a lot of that has to do with her, too.

People can say that it is whatever, but people who know and can see and are around us and know me, know that it's something special when you find that person, and I'm extremely lucky," Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette back in 2011.

The Roethlisbergers are proud parents to three children.

Here is what you need to know:.

They Met Through Ashley's Brother, Who Is a Big Fan of Ben.

Roethlisberger met Ashley Harlan in 2005 in a very interesting way.

The Steelers quarterback had been on campus at Saint Vincent when a fan went up to him and introduced himself.

The two guys started talking and Roethlisberger met the fan's sister, Ashley. Roethlisberger ended up thinking that she was cute and he asked her out on a date.

For the next five years, the two got to know each other.

"We were kind of on and off for five years — almost six years now — so I've known her for a while.

It's not like a random new person.

We dated a while ago; we have been friends ever since," Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette in 2011.

In 2011, Roethlisberger revealed that he and Ashley planned to marry. After rumors that Roethlisberger was engaged surfaced, the public wanted to know everything about the woman who "changed" Big Ben and won his heart.

A little over a year before Ben met Ashley, a female college student accused him of sexual assault. Roethlisberger was determined to move forward, and he did so with Ashley.

According to the Post-Gazette, however, Roethlisberger refused to talk about his personal life.

Nonetheless, details about Roethlisberger's lady love started to come out.

The Post-Gazette wrote that she was "a graduate of Laurel High School, where she was a softball star, and a 2008 graduate of St.

Francis University in Loretto, Cambria County, with a bachelor's degree in health science, and, a year later, a master's of physicians assistant.".

Roethlisberger Tried to Shield Ashley From the Public Eye When They Started Dating.

In April 2011, Roethlisberger was ready to open up — and he did so to Ed Bouchette of thePittsburgh Post-Gazette. Roethlisberger confirmed that he was planning to marry Ashley Harlan in June of that same year.

He said that he was taken aback by the amount of attention his personal life had been receiving.

"I was surprised at how much media attention it was getting — it's just an engagement.

I never expected it to be on the front pages of all the papers and websites.

There was speculation what our invitations would look like and who is coming! It almost seemed surreal, it was like a movie or something, it was weird," he told the outlet.

Roethlisberger went on to talk about how keeping Ashley protected from the public eye was important to him.

"I try to protect her as much as I can.

People have gone to her parents' house and have been doing some things.

That bothers me a little bit because it's what I do for a living, I have to deal with it, but her parents and her, that's not what they have to do.

I understand it's going to happen a little bit, but I'm still going to try to be very protective of the people I love — my family, my sister, my aunts, uncles, grandparents and now her.

I try to be very protective of them because I don't want her to have to be scrutinized over every little thing she does," he told the outlet.

They Got Married in 2011.

Roethlisberger and his wife tied the knot on June 23, 2011, at Christ Church at Grove Farm in Ohio Township, Pennsylvania.

After the couple exchanged vows, they celebrated with family and friends at the David L.

Lawrence Convention Center.

Approximately 600 wedding guests partied the night away in the Spirit of America Ballroom, according to the Post-Gazette.

The Roethlisbergers chose a "silver, ivory, and blush pink color scheme" and their reception featured pink and white roses.

The table centerpieces were made up of "a crystal centerpiece vase" that stood "more than 2 feet tall.".

"Guests' plates were inscribed with the names of the bride and groom and the date.

Beneath each plate there were tea towels embroidered with the letter R.

Another personal touch was sofa pillows embroidered with the letters A and B with a big R.

Guests dined on filet and halibut prepared by Common Plea Restaurant and Catering on Ross Street, Downtown.".

Vanilla Pastry Studio was responsible for the couple's stunning six-tier wedding cake.

The bakery, which is now closed,  created two flavors for the cake.

One was a "vanilla bean buttercream cake with fresh berries" and was served to the women, while the other was a "cookies and cream cake served with a chocolate-dipped strawberry," which was served to the men.

They Have 3 Children Together.

The Roethlisbergers are proud parents to three children, Benjamin, Baylee, and Bodie.

The couple found out they were pregnant just after their wedding.

In November 2012, they welcomed their first born, a son they named Benjamin Jr.

"It puts things into perspective.

For me it's like what's important.

You don't really know love until you have a child and it's pretty cool.

I got up early and he was awake so we were playing this morning before I left to go to practice.

The changes you see every day are just awesome," Roethlisberger told WDVE Radio.

Two years later, the Roethlisbergers became a family of four, welcoming daughter Baylee Marie on March 19, 2014.

Their most recent addition, Bodie Roethlisberger, was born on May 26, 2016.

They Requested Charitable Donations in Lieu of Wedding Gifts & Are Dedicated to Charity Work.

Roethlisberger and his wife-to-be decided to make a special request for their wedding day.

Although the couple did register for quite a few gifts, they wanted their wedding guests to make donations to his charitable effort, Ben Roethlisberger's Foundation.

"I don't know if it's ever been done before, but it's something I wanted to do and she's on board.

We're just hoping that people who come to the wedding give a dollar or a thousand dollars or whatever it is, and at the end we'll put it all together and write a big check to Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital and put everyone's name who donated," Roethlisberger told the Post-Gazette two months before his wedding day.

Below is a description of the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation.

"The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to support police and fire departments throughout the U.S.

with a particular emphasis on support for K-9 units and service dogs.

The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation also works with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For the past several years, Ben has devoted his time to the Make-A-Wish Foundation because of his passion to help children.

One of the most memorable of these Make-A-Wish moments was when he met 14-year old Akeem Havens, who signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in May of 2008 to become one of Ben's go-to wide receivers for the day!".

More recently, the foundation partnered with The Giving Back Fund and issued has issued several grants thus far in 2018.

Eddie Jones has got it right by calling on the specialists - Duration: 5:42.

I'm loving 's selection for Saturday's big game against with next year's World Cup really beginning to concentrate his mind

He is starting to make the final big calls that need to be made. The two words, for me, that sum up the three players he has brought in after last week's narrow win over are 'specialists' and 'perseverance'

Specialists first. Chris Ashton is an out-and-out try-scoring wing — the very best in the business

Jack Nowell is an accomplished all-round player who can play across the back three and will never let England down but Ashton at his best is the man who can provide some X-factor and try-scoring genius

Ashton has not been picked for his defence and ability under the high ball, even though that has improved markedly

He has been picked to buzz around, picking those brilliant lines of his and appearing on shoulders at the ideal try-scoring time

Sam Underhill is a specialist No 7, a tackling machine and a disruptive scavenger

He is there to stop 's big ball-carriers in their tracks and to contest everything at the breakdown

Anything else would be a bonus. And Ben Moon is an out-and-out loosehead who knows his business and despite what must have seemed like a lifetime waiting in the wings for England, immediately looked at home when he came on against

And then perseverance: Ashton has been in and out of England teams and squads for what seems like a decade

Some of that is down to him — he does have a knack of getting himself into needless scraps and troubles on the pitch

His move to Toulon last season suggested he might have read the tea leaves and thought his England days were over

But to my eyes he improved as a player and when it emerged that he might still be in England's thinking he moved heaven and earth to get back here

The fires still burned, he has persevered.Ditto Moon. This is a guy who started with Exeter in the Championship and has stuck with them, playing a big part in the rise of the Chiefs

He doesn't always get the plaudits, in fact he doesn't always get a start because Exeter are awash with quality props, but he has kept on improving

And now he starts against the All Blacks in front of 82,000 at Twickenham. Fantastic

Underhill, meanwhile, has been dogged with injury issues which have seriously frustrated his attempt to make the No 7 shirt his own

It's still not his own: Tom Curry will again contest the issue when he returns from injury but Underhill can put a run of games together

He is die-hard. Remember that incredible tackle he made for England against Wales in the Six Nations when he slipped, jumped back up and raced 40 yards to pull off a miraculous challenge to stop Scott Williams sliding in on the wet turf

It's moments like that which give you great insight into a player's personality, their determination never to quit

England will need plenty of that attitude to match .Eddie's team are in a good place

They beat a strong Boks side last week without playing well, they know they can and must play much better and they start as underdogs against the world's best team

What's more, they have picked the right side.

Man Utd news: Cristiano Ronaldo slams United, Ed Woodward message, double signing backed - Duration: 4:01.

Cristiano Ronaldo slams Man Utd Cristiano Ronaldo has hit out at Manchester United after the Red Devils beat Juventus in the Champions League, claiming Jose Mourinho's men did nothing to win the game

"The Champions League is a special competition, where you could be winning, but can't relax, as anything can happen," Ronaldo said to Sky Sport Italia

"We dominated the game for 90 minutes, had so many chances, could've killed it off three or four times, but we relaxed and were punished

"Manchester United did nothing to win the game. You can't even talk about luck, because you have to find your own luck and in this case we just gifted it to them

"Now we've got to lift our heads, as we played really well and are still top of the group

"I was happy with the goal, but of course I'm a little bit disappointed because we should win the game with three or four goals

"Manchester didn't do much, they had two chances on set pieces. I know English teams are always looking for set pieces

"We will learn from our mistakes and we are still top of the group, so it's all good

"Jose Mourinho sends Ed Woodward message Jose Mourinho has issued a message to Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, claiming the Red Devils must spend big to compete in Europe

"Of course, they [Juventus] are strong, of course they have phenomenal players," Mourinho said to BT Sport

"Of course Cristiano can make that goal and the player that made that beautiful pass was a central defender [Leonardo Bonucci]

"It was a high quality pass from a central defender so they have power and they have quality all over the park, and they have [an] amazing bench to make fantastic changes all the time

"A couple of our boys, they told in the interview after the game at home that they were a little bit [inferior] and I got this

"I worked around that because we had to come and not feel inferior.  "Of course they have a different potential than us, everybody knows their ambitions are different to ours

They were in a very comfortable situation.  "We were in a situation where we thought we needed to go to the last second of the last match and the situation was different

"But the boys, they started the game really, really well with good control of the game

They had one opportunity in the first half but everything was under control." Double signing backed Manchester United should sign Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, Arnold Muhren reckons

"There are two [Dutch] players who are good enough - Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt," he told Omnisport of the Ajax key men

"They can play for Man United without any problems. "At United they've tried several centre-backs

Why could De Ligt not play there?"
