Rocky Fielding v Canelo: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com
Rocky Fielding fights Canelo Alvarez in Madison Square Garden on December 15 for the WBA 'Regular' super middleweight title.
The fight is the first as part of Canelo's new deal with sports streaming service DAZN.
The fight is being shown exclusively on the platform.
The deal is reportedly worth $365 million to Canelo, who also counts Tecate beer and Hennessey cognac among his sponsors.
The fight also represents Fielding's first ever outside of Europe and Canelo's first in New York City.
Fielding's first fight outside of the United Kingdom occurred in July 2018 when he defeated Tyron Zeuge in Germany for the WBA 'Regular' super middleweight belt.
Fielding is a largely unknown 31-year-old fighter from Liverpool, England.
He has two children with his long-time partner, Jessica Hayes.
His promoter, Eddie Hearn, negotiated the fight with Canelo's Golden Boy Promotions.
It will see Canelo stepping up a weight class from middleweight for the bout.

Rocky Fielding's Rise & Name Have Drawn Comparisons to a Certain Fictional Boxer.
Rocky Fielding's rise, from asking Canelo for a selfie in 2017 and doing the Madison Square Garden tourist tour in the same year, to fighting arguably the most famous boxer in the world, has drawn a lot of comparisons.
The most notable, considering Fielding's name, his real name is Michael, is Sylvester Stallone's Rocky Balboa character.
Although considering they appeared in a hilarious Tecate series of commercials, it's likely that Stallone is Team Canelo.
Fielding told ESPN just before leaving his home city for New York City, "From the start of the year to the end of the year has been crazy.
At the start of the year I didn't know where I was going, I was having no dates.
Then I had five weeks' notice to fight Tyron Zeuge.
I was training for six months not knowing what was going on, then I won the title.
I heard James DeGale and Chris Eubank's name being mentioned and when my trainer Jamie Moore rang me I thought he wanted me to spar one of them.
Instead, he said Alvarez wanted to fight me.".
Canelo Says He's Not Looking for a 3rd Fight With Gennady Golovkin.
Despite the rumors to the contrary, Canelo doesn't see a fight with Gennady Golovkin in his future.
In September, Canelo defeated Golovkin by decision in their second bout in Las Vegas.
In the lead up to the Fielding fight, Canelo talked about his victory in an interview with the Los Angeles Times saying, "We wanted to throw more punches, pressure him, hit him more.
We accomplished it.
He lost his way when I landed those punches in the early rounds.
I was better that night.".
Canelo went on to say that he is not chasing a third fight with Triple G saying, "I don't care what he does.
He can do what he wants… I have signed a contract [with DAZN] five years, guaranteed.
The important thing is to make the best fights and fo find the perfect combinations to make the best fights." Although, Canelo did say that if the pair were to meet again, he would be "ready.".
Miguel Cotto Says Fielding Will Face Some Punishment.
Legend Miguel Cotto told Heavy.com that while he hasn't seen Fielding fight, he was still anticipating a great bout.
Cotto said, "Canelo is a strong boxer.
He's a powerful boxer.
Whoever stands in front of him is going to suffer.
[Canelo] made the right training camp.".
Although fellow Liverpool boxer, Tony Bellew, told the Liverpool Echo that Fielding should go into the fight in a confident manner.
Bellew said, "In a boxing ring anything can happen, absolutely anything.
Let me just tell you, Rocky Fielding will not be as big an outsider as Buster Douglas was against Mike Tyson [42-1]… I'll be honest with you, he's up against it.
It's a massive task.
If he can make his size and extra power advantage work for him, which I believe he can, then he definitely has a chance.
Never write off a scouser.".
Fielding Opted to Have His Training Camp Close to Home so He Could Still See His Kids.
Fielding takes to the ring to face Canelo, 12 weeks after his partner, Jessica, gave birth to the couple's second child.
Fielding told ESPN that he decided to do his training for Canelo close to home.
He told the network, "This is better than being away from home.".
Fielding went on, "I did go to Tenerife a few months back and it killed my routine.
Now I get home and it's bedtime, it's bath time, and I won't have seen the children since the morning.
It makes me bounce out of boxing, I put all my spare time into being a dad.
Once I walk into the gym I'm all about boxing, but when I'm home, it's about being a dad.
Don't get me wrong, I still think about boxing but I have to mix in at home as well and I enjoy it.
My daughter is 12 weeks old and I've been in a training camp for 10 weeks.
So I haven't held her properly and been out pushing the pram, doing the little things.
But when I'm slugging it out and things are getting tough I just think, 'everything is for the kids.'".

When speaking about his style in a December 2018 interview with the Daily Mail,ic Fielding said, "Trash talking and that rubbish has never been for me.
I always just wanted to put my energy into the ring and into my family.
I've got a two-year-old boy, Ralphi, and a baby girl, Romi, and Jessica, my girlfriend.
I just want to do what I can to get better things for them.".
In the Build-Up to the Fight, Alvarez Has Accused Long-Term Rival Floyd Mayweather of 'Diminishing' Boxing.
Canelo told the media prior to the Fielding fight of his belief that Floyd Mayweather has "diminished" boxing with his various other fights.
In August 2017, Mayweather fought UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing-rules match in Las Vegas.
Mayweather won by decision.
Later in December 2018, Mayweather announced that he will fight Tenshin Nasukawa, an undefeated kickboxing champion from Japan, in a three-round exhibition fight.
Canelo went on to say that he wants a rematch with Mayweather.
Canelo lost to Mayweather in September 2013 by decision.
Regardless of Mayweather's retirement, Canelo wants a rematch.
He told the media, "For a long time, since the first loss I had against him, they always ask me [about a second fight with Mayweather], and there's the thorn in there.
I would love to have an opportunity for revenge and be able to show other things at this point in my career.
I think with more experience, it would be very different.".
Miguel Cotto told Heavy.
com that you have to respect Mayweather because every decision he makes is economical, and "you have to respect that.

Morning Morning!
it is a glorious morning it's funny because we were talking that
yesterday we moored up at this time because we've been going for so long
an hour-and-a-half and today we're just starting off so it's about 11 o'clock 10:30!
we've got a few locks to do today and then we've got a bit of sits to do
we've got work to do
It's not all fun and frolics!
the Llangollen has about 20 or 21 I can't 100% remember locks and today we're
gonna go through three of them Kath reckons we will go through four of them
if we feel like it I can tell you now I already don't feel like it we wanted to
do these snapshots each day to show you kind of exactly what the LLangollen
looks like in case you never get here but also there's a hire fleet that
runs off the Llangollen and it's autumn and I think that that
fleet actually runs year-round so if you're looking for somewhere nice then
you'll be able to see what this canal is kind of like
the great thing about cruising at this time of year is it feels like you've got
the canal to yourself we've seen a handful of other boats
either moored up or going past us when we've been moored up but we haven't really seen anybody
moving when we've been moving apparently during the summer it gets
really really busy and you queue for the locks and you queue for the aqueduct
So this is just an ideal time and it's really beautiful with the lovely orangey leaves
the only downside to the leaves is that you do get them gather in your
prop. But that's Autumn.
another pet annoyance someone moored up in the lock landing
I know I said you should hire your boat from the Llangollen but I didn't mean
you should hire your boat and then moor it up at the lock landing because the
sluice chucks you over to that side and when you have to pull up and then get
some power to go past a moored boat at a lock landing it's unpleasant it's
unpleasant for everybody just so you can sit in your boat and play board games
which is what they're doing because I gave them daggers through the window
we've just had the good fortune of running into some walkers who are also
boaters from another stretch of canal
who have kindly opened up the next lock for us so I get to drive straight in
and Annamarie has to climb up the slippery lock ladder
not that I wasn't prepared to climb out the ladder because the ladders
right here and is super helpful but it was actually not my lock to do because
they're sharing locks so Kath very graciously said she would climb out
In case you're wondering
I need a little bit of practice with the the water flow in and out of the locks
as well even though I don't really want to practice it's not really fair to get
Kath to do it but if I show it to you. That's the
water flow there which kind of takes your if you point your nose into it then
by the time it straightens back out again it just takes the side of the boat
so Kath did really well it just bumped but really I don't see how on
earth you're supposed to do it differently we don't have an incredibly
powered engine and even if we did it would be a bit ridiculous to use it
every canal is different
So we both do the locks quite differently and that's okay when I'm driving I like
Kath to do the paddles quite slowly and just like crack a bit
a third of the paddle and then a third and a third
and then that way I can kind of keep my eye on which way the waters flowing
because I don't like the boat to go backwards and forwards
you don't have a lot of reversing power in the boat
when you're in a lock because the way the boat reverses is by putting the
water out to the sides so that doesn't really work I just I
like to have a little bit more control so she's really sweet and she just humours
me and where as when she's driving the boat and I'm doing the paddles she
doesn't mind doing we do half a paddle and then she'll give me a nod and I'll
do the other half as long as nothing crazy is happening with the water and I
think that's just the thing when you're in a new canal system is just knowing
how the water works differently I don't think the locks are a problem on the
Llangollen I think the issues are the runoffs where the waters are
and we haven't got a technique for that yet
but surely because my issue is that it takes you not that getting into the lock
but when you leave the lock there's also a water coming out to the side and my
issue is that that your boat could be taken down there but I'm imagining that
the lip is big enough so that I would never happen or else Twitter would be
full of images of that happening
so come look what I've done for lunch and I've done it for the last couple of
days I got some foil and potatoes and I have put them in the fire and the last
couple of days they have come out perfect
the cats are supervising Alice Munchy and this is what it looks like
so can you see the foil over on that side what I did was I moved all the
coals over to the left and I have two baked potatoes there on the right and in
the middle of the baked potatoes I have one piece of coal for some reason
somehow think about an hour in the fire that's what's been working the absolute
best for us so we're not using any gas awesome
I think we're coming up to a lift bridge
Oh I have to go get the key let's try to show you how this is done
So Annamarie got off at the bridge and walked down
To operate the lift bridge
with my key but without my windlass Maybe she should have worn her pin badge to remind her!
Kath has gone to do the next one the third of three lift bridges
as longtime viewers know, I don't love bridges or aqueducts
and
I especially don't like operating them and I don't like cruising under them
lift bridges that is not aqueducts we shan't let our phobias dictate what we can and
can't do
this is not our mooring up spot but Kath has found a bit of tree so we're gonna
cut it up and then we will have a bit more firewood which is free fuel again
it's a free day

and tend to have a greater rate of success.
Next, look for a node on the vine.
This swollen portion is found where multiple stems
branch off from the main stem.
Look for the next node closer to the stem after that one
and then make your cut half an inch below it.
Place the cutting in a jar with water covering
the node closest to the cut.
Roots will grow from this node,
so remove any extra branches from it.
Change the water weekly and then when roots are
around half an inch long, plant the cutting
in some well-draining potting soil.
Once the cutting is established in the soil,
it will form a tuber at the base of the roots.
In the right conditions, it might even grow
some tiny, purple flowers!
