Youtube daily report Dec 18 2018

Islam is one of the world's major religions and it was promoted by the Prophet Muhammad in Arabia and the seventh century the Arabic term

Islam means surrender and it really shed some light on the fundamental religious idea of Islam

Which is that the believer called a Muslim fully surrenders to the will of Allah the term for God in Arabic

Inside this religion despite many claiming that Islam is united and has only one religious path

There are still various schools of thought and branches of Islam that exist today. Hello, everyone

My name is Leroy Kenton and welcome to another episode of FTD facts. This is a channel where we explore the various different people

Countries cultures and history from all around the world and in this episode

I'm exploring the five major branches of Islam the branch

I'm gonna start off with in this episode is the Sunnis Sunni is a largest branch of Islam and it represents about

90% of all the followers of Islam worldwide Sunni Islam is the largest religious denomination followed by

Catholicism and Sunnis regard their branch as the mainstream and

traditionalist branch of Islam Sunni followers believe that Muhammad had not

Appointed a specific successor and many years after the death of the Prophet and a lot of debate

Followers chose Abu Bakr to be the successor Abu Bakr became the first openly declared Muslim

Outside of Muhammad's family Abu Bakr had served as a very trusted adviser to the Prophet Muhammad now when we look a little bit closer

inside what the Sunnis believe

well

A lot of their beliefs really emphasize the views of their community at large with the Sunnis

Instituting consensus this allowed them to incorporate

various different customs that came through historical development

But don't necessarily

Have any base roots in the Quran the Sunnis also recognize the six sound books of hadith and these books of hadith

Can change spoken tradition that's attributed to the Prophet Muhammad the Sunnis also accept the four schools of Islamic law

Okay, so now moving on to the next branch of Islam that I want to talk about

The Shia sometimes written as Shiite is a movement within Islam and it has very political origins

so after the death of the Prophet Muhammad in AD

632 the founders of the Shia movement

They wanted power to pass to the prophet's son-in-law and cousin named ali and then to his male

Successors from there on out and she has believed that muhammad

Personally chose ali to be his successor in the shia faith

They also have imams and these are people that are more central figures as well as community leaders Shias

Have a great influence in the contemporary world in Iran where nearly 90% of the Muslims are Shia Muslims

But Hsieh are also the majority in Iraq Bahrain and Yemen now

I'm sure most of us have heard of the five pillars of Islam. Well the five pillars of Islam

Yes, they're shared between Shia and Sunni faiths

however, the five pillars are represented differently in Shia Islam the five principle pillars of Shia are

Tawheed which is the oneness of God new Bua which is prophethood

resurrection divine justice and ammama

Which is a belief in the political and spiritual supremacy of the prophets successors

Now before we continue we have done several videos that explore the religion of Islam in a lot more details

I do have a playlist in the card section of this episode

There's also a link in the video description and I'll also have the playlist at the end of this episode and in it

There's a video where we talk a lot about the differences between the Shia and the Sunni Muslims a lot more in detail

So you definitely want to check that out the third branch of Islam

Now that I'm going to talk about is a body a body is a school of Islam

That's very dominant in the country of Oman. Although a body ism is often described as very conservative

it is considered a

tolerant sect of Islam and it emphasizes the rule of the just and rejects violence as a means to

Political ends the body population is very small when you compare it to the Sunni and Shia Muslim population

They're roughly 2.7 to million your body's in the war

And most of them live in Oman Oman is also the only country in the Muslim world that has any body majority as its

population now the roots of ebon ISM stem from the seventh century

About 20 years after the death of the Prophet Mohammed

He bodies can be traced back to the courage Heights who came into existence during the first Islamic civil war back in

1656 to 1660 one carriage rights were the earliest Islamic sect and they emerged as a result of the religio-political

controversy over the

Caliphate and the Caliphate is a political religious state comprising the Muslim community and the land as well as the people under its

Dominion in the centuries following the death of the Prophet Muhammad and another thing that

Makes the bodies distinct from the other Muslim branches is that your bodies believe that the Muslim community can govern themselves?

They do not need any sort of religious central figure and they're also distinct in that a bodies

Do not believe that a Muslim leader needs to be a descendant of the tribe of the Prophet Muhammad next up

I want to introduce Ahmadiyya the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat is a very dynamic and it's also a fast-growing

International movement within Islam it was founded in

1889 the Ahmadiyya is the only

Islamic organization to believe that the long-awaited Messiah has come in the person of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad who was born in?

1835 to 1908 in coddy on India Mirza Ghulam Ahmad

Claimed that he was divinely appointed as both the promised Mahdi

Which is the guided one and Messiah?

Expected by Muslims to appear towards end times of the earth and bring about a very peaceful

triumph of Islam all across the world

It's also believed that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad would embody the expected religious figure of major

religions around the world the Ahmadiyya believed that God sent mirza

ghulam ahmed just like jesus to end religious wars condemned violence and bloodshed and

Reinstitute morality in the world as well as justice and peace worldwide

so with that said the followers of Ahmad iya is lahm do not believe that muhammad is the final prophet now the largest

Populations of Ahmadiyya Muslims are found in Indonesia

West and East Africa as well as South Asia as part of their efforts to really revive Islam the ahmadiyya muslim community

They continue to spread Ahmad's teachings of moderation and restraint and all of this in the face of opposition

From other Muslim groups the ahmadiyya muslim community also believes in the separation of mosque and state

so the difference between religion and

Politics they want to keep that completely separate over a century ago mirza, ghulam ahmad

he taught his followers to protect the sanctity of both religion and government by becoming

righteous Souls following your religious practices as well as being loyal and faithful following the laws of the land but never ever

Combine the two of them now the final group I'm talking about in this episode is Sufis

Sufism known as tasawwuf in the arabic-speaking world is a form of

mystical Islam and they really emphasize the beliefs and practices in which Muslims can seek and find a path to

divine love and knowledge through direct personal experiences of God the Sufi practice focuses a lot on

The renunciation of material things they focus a lot on the purification of the soul and followers

Try to get closer to God by seeking spiritual learning known as tariqa

One of the most important rituals in Sufism is the seeker during a seeker one remembers God through meditation

Chants as well as a lot of body movement

Certain attributes and qualities of God are repeated by the person until they become saturated

With God now

This ritual is supposedly supposed to transform them and as they dance and move around for hours

They reach a state of ecstasy

In which they purify their heart where they are only conscious of the presence of God

This is a complete surrender and a complete emptiness to self

They believe that this experience of higher consciousness and being one with God does not have to wait until paradise

It can actually be a shaved now right here on earth as we know it

Turkey and Persia are actually considered to be centers of Sufism throughout the world

But Sufism has also reached Greece, Albania and Macedonia

As well as other places and that was your brief overview of the five major branches of Islam

5 Common Direction Phrases in English: UPSIDE DOWN, INSIDE OUT... - Duration: 16:53.

I'm having a hard time reading this book, E. It's all upside down.

Oh, you're having the same problem.

Hi. James from engVid.

E and I are having a problem because he's looking at himself in the mirror, and his

head is in the wrong place.

His head should be here, but it's on the bottom.

And I'm reading this book and I don't understand the words, because the words are in the wrong

place; they're all upside down.

You know what?

That's probably one of the phrases that we use in English that confuses many people who

are learning the language, because the words are all, well, kind of topsy-turvy.

You know?

Don't make sense.

Today's lesson, I'm going to show you five common things that we say, and they are direction

related, which they do give us an idea of what direction things are going in, except

we often say it without thinking that you won't understand because we use them only

in this manner, in a certain way.

Let's go to the board and take a look.

E's having problems because his picture or his mirror is upside down.

My book was upside down.

What does that mean, exactly?

Let's start with the first thing.

I've got one "inside-out".

Here's my shirt.

I was going to wear it, but you can see it.

This is the right way to wear the shirt.

When it's inside-out, you will notice...

There we go.

Now it's the wrong way because you can see the label.

Have you ever worn your shirt inside-out by accident, and someone has to go: "Ahem.

Your shirt's inside-out"?

You're like: "Oh god!

It is!

It's terrible!

I never thought about it!" it means the in part is on the outside.

Funny enough, this is usually when people wear their clothes incorrectly, but we have

another way of using it.

When you say: "I know something inside-out", it means: I know everything about it because

I know every small part, from the inner part - the smallest part to the bigger part.

So, I say: "I know this book inside-out."

I know everything about this book.

So, listen for context, because if they: "Hey, son.

Your underwear is inside-out", it doesn't mean: You know everything about underwear;

it means you should take it off and put it on properly.

Okay?

But if you know a book inside-out...

You see this?

This is the outside of the book; this is the inside of the book.

So, when saying: "I know this book inside-out", it means I know all of the information on

the inside, right to the outside.

Cool, huh?

One thing and you've learned two things.

Let's see what else we can learn.

So, listen for that when English people speak.

They go...

If they say to you: "I know everything about this company inside-out; I know everything

about this company, from the floor, who cleans it, how they make the money - I know everything."

But if my shirt is inside-out, I need to go home and change.

I like that one.

Let's look at number two.

Round and round you're calling me, doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo.

Dah-dah-dah-dah.

Dah-dah-dah...

Yeah, it's an old song.

Yup.

Anyway, that's a song.

"Round and round", it means to go in a circle, moving in a circle.

If you say: "We've had this conversation for, like, 20 minutes, and we're just going round

and round the same things", it means the conversation isn't getting any...

Nothing new is coming; we're just talking about the same things again, and again, and

again.

Like a CD.

Hopefully you know what a CD is, because everyone streams now.

Or a DVD, it goes around and around.

So, a lot of times, in English, people go: "We've been through this before; we just go

round and round the same conversation."

It means: Nothing is new; we just move in a circle, like my poor dogs who are confused

and going in different directions.

And they're like: "Round and round.

No, that's not round; it's the..."

Yeah.

You got it.

Okay.

Number two.

So, things, when you hear a Canadian or a Canadian English person...

English speaker go: "Why are we going around and around the same thing?"

They should say "round in a circle".

They won't say "circle", usually; they'll just say "round".

Another variance or another one of these is "around".

They go: "We go around and around" Same thing.

Around and round, because they're both talking about circles.

Cool?

All right.

Number three: "tip top", "tip-top".

Used by British people more, I would say, from England, but people know what it means

when someone says: "something's in tip-top shape".

The "tip" is right here.

Or to make it even easier, if you go: "What is that, James?"

When you look at a pen, that end on the pen, this very thing here is the tip of the pen,

so it's the end - the tip.

Or: "tip of my tongue".

Tip - the end.

So, this is the tip of the arrow.

Next is the "top".

Think the pyramids.

You know.

Pyramid.

The top of the pyramid.

So, "tip and top", if you notice, it's the very end of something.

So, in this case, we mean the very best, because the best is up here and the best is here.

So, when someone says to you: "This room is in tip-top shape", it is in excellent shape.

If I say: "I feel in tip-top shape", I am feeling very healthy and very strong.

Okay?

"Tip top".

Moving on to number four.

This is the problem that E had.

E said: "It's all upside down."

He's looking at himself, and he notices his head is here when it should be here; tail

is here.

I'm going to teach you a fancy word for "inverted".

This...

Oh, I should have taught you another one; it's in the back of my head now.

"Right side up".

That's for another day.

This pen is in the correct position.

When it's inverted, the pen is this way.

Another way of saying this is: "upside down".

Now, right now, the pen is in the correct position and I'm upside down.

I'm just kidding.

I'm not.

I'm standing up.

It's just a joke.

Take your computer: "Now James is inverted; now James is back again!"

Okay?

So, "to invert" something means to change its position from one position to the opposite

position.

So, a lot of times, English people say: "Oh god, everything's just upside down", which

means it's not in the correct order.

It's, like, normally we come to work and we have coffee, then we have a meeting, and then

we go to do our jobs, and then we have another meeting.

But now we started with a meeting, we did our jobs, then a meeting, and then coffee.

It's upside down.

It's been changed to its opposite side or its opposite way.

Okay?

So, if your life is upside down, it means-and this is kind of a separate meaning-everything

is in the wrong order or everything is out of order.

Cool?

So, listen when people say: "It's all...

I'm...

My life is upside down."

It's not in the right or correct order.

Cool?

All right.

"To be inverted".

Yes, my stickmen have become acrobats.

He's flippity.

Flippity flop.

Flip flop.

"Flop" is like: "Ugh" - flop.

So, he didn't quite make it; he flopped - failed.

"Flip flop".

If you're from Brazil...

Hi, Brazilians, I love you guys.

Peace out.

You guys have these shoes.

You know?

I forgot what you call them, and you put them on your feet, and you call them flip...

We call them "flip flops".

This is a bit different.

"To flip flop", here, is you make a decision and then you change your mind.

You suddenly change your mind; you reverse the decision.

"Okay, so let's go for dinner.

I would like to have McDonald's."

Just before we get to McDonald's: -"I mean, no, no, I want chicken.

Let's go to Popeyes."

-"What?

What?

How can you flip flop?"

And you go: "No, no, no.

I want pizza."

It means to continually change your mind on a decision.

Some people flip flop all the time - it drives you crazy.

It's like: Just make a decision and stick to it.

A lot of governments flip flop, don't they?

Say: Yes.

You know what I mean.

Every country, your government says one thing and then they do another.

They flip flop.

It's like they cannot make a decision.

We, at engVid, can make decisions, and we've decided to teach you.

Okay.

We don't flip flop.

All right?

So, anyway, I hope you like these five.

We're going to have a couple more; you know, there's a bonus round.

See if you can remember.

Are you wearing your shirts inside-out?

Don't do that.

Okay?

I'm sure you're in tip-top shape, because you're in the hands of myself and our crew.

Ready?

[Snaps]

So, we have, as usual, our bonus - a smart...

A little quiz and some homework.

But before I get to that, I'll just say welcome back, and let's look at the first bonus word

I want to give you, or phrase: "topsy turvy".

Do you remember we talked about "upside down" means things were inverted?

These are similar.

Sometimes you'll see people use "topsy turvy" and "upside down".

They're not exactly the same.

While "upside down" means...

For instance...

Or, for example: The pen is upside down.

Okay?

And that's a very common to say...

Common thing to say: The phone is upside down or the book is upside down.

No one would look at this book when it's like this and say: "It's topsy turvy."

They would say: "It's upside down."

But sometimes "topsy turvy" and "upside down" can be used...

Are interchanged; people use them.

When there's some confusion.

Remember I said: "My life is upside down"?

My life isn't actually upside down; I wasn't dead and then I was born - it doesn't change

like that, but it's confusing; it's a mess.

"Topsy turvy" means more to being mixed up or a mess; everything's messed together.

But because of that, sometimes people say: "topsy turvy" and they mean upside down, but

not in this thing.

So, when a book is upside down or a pen is upside down, you don't say "topsy turvy".

But if things are confused, or messy, or mixed up, you might see people saying: "It's topsy

turvy" or "upside down".

Or in a rollercoaster: "It's topsy turvy.

It's, like, it's all over the place."

Okay?

My next one is...

Well, for some of you smokers out there, you know what Zig-Zag is.

Mm-hmm, you make your own cigarettes and probably something else, right?

Mm-hmm.

You need a good education.

You're going to need it.

"Zig zag", though, when we talk about in English, we mean to go suddenly to the left and to

the right.

So, you "zig zag" - you don't go in a straight line; you move back and forth.

You're zig-zagging, like the letter Z.

That's why we have a "z" and a "z": "to zig zag".

Left turn, right turn; left turn, right turn.

Cool?

So, right now, I'm zig-zagging, as I come to the camera.

Okay?

Going right and left.

Speaking of which, let's go right to the questions.

I'm sorry, it's been a long day.

Okay, anyway.

Oh, isn't that interesting?

When you look at this particular quiz, I'm going to write...

Well, I have written out what peopley...

"Peopley" like "sheepily".

What people have actually say...

Would actually have to say if they didn't use the phrases.

I gave you these phrases, like "topsy turvy" and "zig zag", because really, if you don't

use them, you have these long phrases that you have to say instead.

And we like just saying the short phrases because the meaning is understood by most

people-right?-and it's quick.

The very first one is this one: "We made sudden turns to the left and to the

right, going through the streets of Toronto."

I bet you can think of an easier way of saying that.

Yeah, we talked about "zig zag", right?

I'm sorry.

"Zig zag", "to zig zag".

So, we zigged...

You go: "We zig zagged through the streets of Toronto."

We went this way, we went that way, we went this way, and we went that way; not a straight

line.

Cool?

"Zig zag".

Let me clean that up a little bit.

To zig zag.

Or: "We zigged and we zagged.

We zigged and we zagged."

You can say: "We zigged and we zagged", but not: "We zagged and we zigged".

You can't say that.

Through the streets of Toronto.

What about this one?

"They went in circles arguing about the same things.

They went in circles arguing about the same things."

[Hums] Yeah, it's still bad, even when I'm just doing the music sound.

"They went round and round".

Right?

"They went around and around".

I know this is three words, and three words; but as you can see for the next one, they

get longer and we only need a few words.

I love this one: "She didn't realize her shirt had the inside

on the outside and the outside was on the inside."

I just want to hang myself.

I don't think I would ever say that, because in English, I know

the phrase is...

What's the phrase?

Yes: "inside-out".

So much easier.

Right?

Let's just do this.

Say: "inside-out".

"Her shirt was inside-out."

Done.

Cool?

Just put a little hyphen, there.

Okay?

So: "Her shirt was inside-out."

What's the next one?

"I don't trust them because they constantly change their minds on important decisions."

They constantly change their minds on important decisions.

What would that be?

Remember, if you go to Brazil you wear these?

"Flip flop".

Remember we talked about "flip flop"?

The guy was in the air, jumping, doing a flip, and then he flopped.

"They flip flop on their decisions."

And now, the last one: "I feel in excellent shape."

And I said they usually say this more in England, but they will say it in Canada and America.

"I feel in excellent shape."

What would that be?

Yeah, "tip-top shape".

A little joke for you: In Canada, we have a store called: "Tip Top" suit people, and

they are not the very best.

No offence, Tip Top, but you know you're not.

But, you know, it does mean the very best.

So, we've gone through and you've done your quiz; I'm sure you did rather well.

I do have homework for you.

"Boooo".

Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.

Get over it.

You need to work.

I want you to write at least two sentences with these new phrases.

Taught you about seven phrases, so you have a choice between seven.

You know, you could say...

I use this one.

You could be romantique and say; "I zig zag through the streets of Rome with my love."

That's, like, a French accent.

Okay, well, whatever.

You get the point, okay?

Anyway, I'd like you to do the other quiz lined up for you.

And where are you going to go for that quiz?

You have to go to www.engvid.com; eng as in English, vid as in video, and I know I said

wwww, but it's just www.

Okay?

Do the quiz.

And before you go away, hit "Subscribe".

If you like this lesson, also pass it on to a friend.

I always and I should always say: Thank you for watching.

Don't forget to hit "Subscribe"; there's a button somewhere, here.

And if you see the little bell, hit that and you'll get the latest video that I have coming

out every time to either your laptop, your cellphone - wherever you want to get it.

Cool.

Anyway, it's been a pleasure.

Thanks a lot.

And we'll see you soon.

Ciao.

MUELLER PROBE OR THE 17 SEPARATE

RUSSIA INVESTIGATIONS.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE DRAMA

UNFOLDING OVER HUAWEI.

WHAT IS THE U.S. POLITICAL PLAY?

IS THERE A WAY OUT FOR CANADA?

I SIT DOWN WITH OUR U.S.

POLITICAL PANEL TO TALK ABOUT

WHAT IS COMING SOUTH OF THE

BORDER TOMORROW ON "THE

NATIONAL."

>> Ian: WELCOME BACK.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE OTHER

STORIES THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING

TONIGHT... THE MAN TAPPED TO BE

THE NEXT CHIEF OF THE ONTARIO

PROVINCIAL POLICE HAS RESUMED

HIS JOB WITH THE TORONTO POLICE

SERVICE.

RON TAVERNER HAS WITHDRAWN HIS

RESIGNATION AS SUPERINTENDENT OF

THE TORONTO POLICE DEPARTMENT.

HIS CONTROVERSIAL APPOINTMENT TO

THE O.P.P. WAS SUPPOSED TO START

TODAY

BUT IT'S DELAYED WHILE IT'S

REVIEWED.

TAVERNER IS A FRIEND OF THE

PREMIER DOUG FORD.

HE DIDN'T MEET THE ORIGINAL

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB.

THE GOVERNMENT LOWERED THE JOB

QUALIFICATIONS THEY SAID TO

ATTRACT A WIDER FIELD OF

CANDIDATES.

>>> ANDREI TAMINE IS SENTENCED

FOR HIS ROLE IN A DRUG SMUGGLING

SCHEME THAT ENDED IN AUSTRALIA.

HE WAS ARRESTED WITH TWO OTHER

CANADIANS WHO MADE HEADLINES

AFTER POSTING PHOTOS ON

INSTAGRAM OF THEIR SUPPOSED

CRUISE VACATION.

TAMINE IS SENTENCED TO EIGHT

YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS IN PRISON.

>>> AND IF YOU LOOK INTO THE

NIGHT SKY YOU MIGHT CATCH A

GLIMPSE OF A COMET.

COMET 46-P IS DUBBED THE

CHRISTMAS COMET.

IT'S MAKING ITS CLOSEST APPROACH

TO EARTH IN CENTURIES AND IT

WON'T BE COMING THIS CLOSE AGAIN

FOR

ANOTHER 20 YEARS.

IT'S ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST COMETS

TO PASS BY THIS TIME OF YEAR AND

IT'S ONE THAT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE

TO SEE WITH THE NAKED EYE.

>> Rosemary: CONSENT AND

SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

AREN'T REALLY A POPULAR TOPIC OF

CONVERSATION WITH TEENAGED BOYS,

BUT IN THE "ME TOO" ERA THERE'S

EFFORTS IN PLACE TO CHANGE THAT,

STARTING IN SCHOOLS.

THAT'S WHERE MEN'S LEADERSHIP

GROUPS COME IN.

NICK PURDON VISITED A HIGH

SCHOOL HERE IN OTTAWA TO

UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS FOR

TODAY'S GENERATION TO MAN UP.

(*)

>> OKAY.

WELL, WELCOME, GUYS.

MY NAME IS MATT.

I WORK WITH THE OTTAWA COALITION

TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.

>> Reporter: HERE'S WHAT A

SEX-ED WORKSHOP LOOKS LIKE IN

2018.

I'VE BEEN ALLOWED TO SIT IN AS

STUDENTS FROM A.Y. JACKSON HIGH

SCHOOL IN OTTAWA LEARN ABOUT

CONSENT.

>> DO YOU HAVE A SENSE OF WHAT

SOME OF THE WOMEN THAT GO TO

THIS SCHOOL HAVE DONE TODAY TO

PREVENT THEMSELVES FROM BEING

SEXUAL ASSAULTED?

>> MAYBE THEY PUT THOUGHT INTO

WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO WEAR.

>> THEY DEFINITELY SOMETIMES

TAKE A CAR INSTEAD OF WALKING

BECAUSE THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE

WALKING.

>> YEAH, AND THERE'S A REASON

FOR THAT.

SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I

HEAR PEOPLE SAY, WHEN I WALK TO

MY CAR AT NIGHT I CARRY MY KEYS

AS A WEAPON.

I WON'T RENT AN APARTMENT ON THE

FIRST FLOOR.

IF I'M AT A PARTY OR THE BAR, I

WOULD ONLY GO WITH FRIENDS AND

NEVER GO ALONE AND NEVER LEAVE

ALONE.

MOST OF THE VIOLENCE THAT WOMEN

REPORT, IT'S MEN WHO ARE DOING

THE HARM.

WHY IS THAT?

WHY IS SO MUCH OF IT COMING FROM

GUYS?

>> Reporter: MIKE CHAFF HAS

SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE TRYING TO

END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.

HERE IN OTTAWA OVER THE LAST FEW

YEARS HE'S GIVEN THIS WORKSHOP

TO ABOUT 4,000 PEOPLE.

>> THERE'S A LOT OF PRESSURES

THAT WE'RE UNDER -- MAYBE

WITHOUT REALIZING IT -- THAT DO

HARM TO OTHER PEOPLE.

>> Reporter: THE STUDENTS HERE

WANT TO END THE VIOLENCE TOO.

THAT'S WHY THEY INVITED MATT TO

TALK TO THEIR MEN'S LEADERSHIP

GROUP THEY CALL "MAN UP."

AMIR EXPLAINS WHAT "MAN UP" HAS

DONE FOR

HIM.

>> I THINK THAT IT'S REALLY MADE

ME SEE A LITTLE BIT MORE THROUGH

A WOMAN'S EYES.

>> LIKE ANOTHER INTERESTING

POINT...

>> Reporter: ADAM TELFER SAYS

THAT EVERY MEMBER OF THE GROUP

IS COMMITTED TO STANDING UP TO

ANY KIND OF VIOLENCE THEY

WITNESS AT THEIR SCHOOL.

>> FOR ME IN GRADE NINE I DIDN'T

REALIZE THAT STUFF LIKE THIS WAS

SUCH A BIG DEAL UNTIL YOU SIT

THERE AND YOU REALIZE THAT THIS

IS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE AND THIS

NEEDS TO BE STOPPED.

>> THIS IS BASED ON RESEARCH AND

CONVERSATIONS THAT I'VE HAD WITH

PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN IN A

SITUATION OR WHOSE FRIENDS HAVE

BEEN IN THE SITUATION.

>> Reporter: GIVING THESE

WORKSHOPS, MATT HAS TALKED TO

HUNDREDS OF MEN IN THE LAST FEW

YEARS.

>> DOESN'T IT FEEL THAT THE

STAKES ARE HIGH SOMETIMES?

>> Reporter: AND THEY TELL HIM

SOME OF THE

CHALLENGES THEY MAY FACE.

>> I SOMETIMES HEAR FROM GUYS

THAT GENDER ROLES ARE CHANGING,

THAT PEOPLE USED TO KNOW HOW TO

BEHAVE.

NOW IT'S ALL UP FOR GRABS.

IT'S CONFUSING TO BE A MAN.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOMEN WANT.

I FEEL THAT I'M WALKING ON

EGGSHELLS.

>> SO WE'LL SWITCH AND LOOK AT

THE OTHER SCENARIO AS WELL.

>> Reporter: MATT HOPES THAT

WORKSHOPS LIKE THIS ONE CAN HELP

MEN TO CLEAR UP THEIR CONFUSION

ON HOW TO BEHAVE IN A

RELATIONSHIP.

THE STAKES ARE HIGH WHEN YOU

CONSIDER THAT MOST SEXUAL

VIOLENCE IS COMMITTED BY SOMEONE

THAT THE VICTIM IS CLOSE TO.

>> YOU'RE CLOSE FRIENDS WITH

STEPHANIE...

>> Reporter: THAT'S WHAT THE

NEXT SCENARIO IS ALL ABOUT.

>> SHE TELLS HER THAT HER

BOYFRIEND, EMMANUEL, IS TELLING

HER THAT IT'S TIME TO START

HAVING SEX BECAUSE THEY HAVE

BEEN TOGETHER FOR SIX MONTHS.

HE BUYS HER FLOWERS EVERY MONTH

AND GIVES HER A LOT OF GIFTS.

SOME OF HER FRIENDS ASK WHEN

SHE'LL SLEEP WITH HIM.

>> THIS IS CREATING A SENSE OF

GUILT FOR HER, RIGHT?

BECAUSE HE IS BUYING NICE THINGS

FOR HER BECAUSE HE'S TRYING TO

GET SOMETHING OUT OF HER.

>> IN THIS SITUATION HE HAS

POWER OVER HER.

AND ALL OF HER FRIENDS ON HIS

SIDE SAYING THAT SHE SHOULD

SLEEP WITH HIM.

>> SO THIS SENSITIZES US TO THE

PRESSURES THAT WOMEN FEEL.

THOUGH I COULD ASK IN THE NICEST

WAY SHE WILL STILL FEEL THIS

PRESSURE.

SHE MAY FEEL THAT IT'S SAFER TO

JUST GO ALONG WITH IT.

THAT'S WHAT I HEAR PEOPLE IS

THAT IT'S SAFER TO GO ALONG WITH

IT.

>> Reporter: HERE'S THE THING

-- THE PRESSURE TEENAGED BOYS

FEEL TO HAVE SEX IS PART OF THE

PROBLEM.

>> IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN A

RELATIONSHIP FOR A LONG TIME

IT'S KIND OF EXPECTED THAT YOU'D

START DOING THINGS SEXUALLY AND

YOU'RE KIND OF WEIRD IF YOU'RE

NOT.

>> I THINK THAT WHAT IS REALLY

HARD FOR A LOT OF TEENAGED GUYS

NOW IS KNOWING WHAT IS RIGHT AND

WHAT IS WRONG TO DO.

>> Reporter: WHAT'S THAT LIKE

FOR YOU?

>> IT'S DIFFICULT.

I REALLY THINK THAT OUR

GENERATION IS GOING TO BE THE

GENERATION OF CHANGE AND I THINK

THAT PUTS US IN EXTREMELY

DIFFICULT ROLES BECAUSE WE HAVE

TO BE THE ONES WHO DEFINE THOSE

LINES.

>> Reporter: WHICH LINES?

>> THE LINES THAT YOU CAN'T

CROSS.

>> ALL RIGHT, GUYS, HERE'S HOW

IT WORKS...

>> Reporter: MATT SAYS IF

YOU'RE GOING TO KNOW THOSE

LIMITS YOU HAVE TO GET BETTER AT

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PARTNER.

THAT'S WHAT THE NEXT EXERCISE IS

ALL ABOUT.

>> THESE ARE CARDS THAT OTHER

STUDENTS HAVE CREATED THAT ARE

LIKE THINGS THEY WOULD SAY OR DO

TO CHECK WHAT THEIR PARTNER IS

INTO.

>> WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO TO

YOU?

[laughter]

>> REALISTIC OR NOT?

>> FOR ME THAT'S NOT SOMETHING

REALISTICALLY I'D SAY.

>> CAN I PUT MY WAND IN YOUR

CHAMBER OF SECRETS.

[laughter]

>> OH, GOD.

>> Reporter: OF COURSE IT'S

EASY TO MAKE ALL OF THE RIGHT

CHOICES AND DECISIONS WHEN

YOU'RE WITH YOUR FRIENDS.

SO AS THE WORKSHOP COMES TO AN

END MATT CHALLENGES THE GROUP.

>> I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT IS

THE RIGHT THING TO SAY IN THIS

ROOM, RIGHT?

WE KNOW THE KIND OF GUYS THAT WE

WANT TO BE.

WE KNOW WHAT OUR HIGHEST VALUES

ARE AND WE KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD

BE DOING.

BUT REAL LIFE IS MESSIER THAN

THAT.

I THINK THAT THE STRENGTH OF

YOUR GROUP IS THAT YOU HAVE EACH

OTHER.

THAT'S REALLY POWERFUL.

>> Reporter: THERE'S NO

DENYING THAT THERE'S A WILL HERE

TO CHANGE THINGS.

AND IF WE'RE GOING TO SOLVE

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN THAT'S

NOT A BAD PLACE TO START.

[Applause]

NICK PURDON, CBC NEWS, OTTAWA.

>> Andrew: WELL, THAT SEEMS

LIKE A VERY SMART WORKSHOP.

>>> OKAY OUR "MOMENT OF THE DAY"

COMING UP AND, FORGIVE US, IT'S

DEFINITELY ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

TONIGHT BECAUSE ALVIN AND THE

CHIPMUNKS ARE GETTING A RUN FOR

THEIR MONEY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

>> * I WON'T ASK FOR MUCH THIS

CHRISTMAS *

* I WON'T EVEN WISH FOR SNOW

>> Andrew: IT'S THE SONG THAT

IS GAINING GROUND ON THE

BILLBOARD HOT 100 IN A WAY THIS

-- IN A WAY THAT

WE HAVEN'T SEEN IN DECADES.

BUT FIRST, IN CASE YOU MISSED

IT --

>> MERRIAM-WEBSTER'S WORD OF THE

YEAR FOR 2018 IS "JUSTICE."

>> Andrew: TURNS OUT THAT A

PRETTY COMMON NOUN HAS BEEN A

PRETTY

COMMON SEARCH TERM ONLINE.

UP 74% THIS YEAR COMPARED TO THE

LAST.

NOW WHY WOULD THAT BE?

WELL, THE DICTIONARY'S EDITOR

SAYS TO JUST TURN ON THE NEWS.

THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE

HAS BEEN DOMINATING HEADLINES

WITH SPECIAL COUNSEL ROBERT

MUELLER'S PROBE INTO RUSSIAN

MEDDLING AND HIGH-PROFILE

CONVICTIONS OF PEOPLE TIED TO

TRUMP.

THERE'S ALSO BEEN QUESTIONS

ABOUT OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE

FOLLOWING PRESIDENTIAL TWEETS.

WHO COULD FORGET JUSTICE BRETT

KAVANAUGH, THE SEXUAL ASSAULT

ALLEGATIONS AND HIS NOMINATION

TO THE SUPREME COURT?

>> ANY CONVERSATION ABOUT THESE

TOPICS CAN NATURALLY LEAD

TO SEEKING A CLEARER IDEA OF

WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE SPEAK OF

JUSTICE.

>> Andrew: YES "JUSTICE" BEAT

OUT OTHER WORDS LIKE "LODESTAR,"

A WORD THAT INTERNET SLEUTH

ZEROED IN TO SEE IN WHICH TRUMP

INSIDER WROTE THE OP-ED.

>> President Donald Trump: I'M

A NATIONALIST, OKAY.

>> Andrew: THERE WAS ALSO

"NATIONALIST" USED BY THE

PRESIDENT TO SET HIMSELF APART

FROM GLOBALISTS.

>> DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR DAD'S

IMMIGRATION PRACTICES, YOU

FECKLESS...

>> Andrew: AND YES "FECKLESS"

-- NOT THE OTHER WORD USED BY

COMEDIENNE SAMANTHA BEE IN A

CONTROVERSIAL

SKIT.

ALL REMINDERS SAYS

MERRIAM-WEBSTER'S EDITOR, THAT

WORDS MATTER.

>> WE CAN MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH

WORDS THAT TELL US SOMETHING

ABOUT OUR CULTURE, OUR LANGUAGE

AND OURSELVES.

(*)

>> Ian: 'TIS THE SEASON FOR

NONSTOP CHRISTMAS SONGS AND

MARIAH CAREY'S "ALL I WANT FOR

CHRISTMAS" IS THE MOST POPULAR

OF THEM ALL.

IT BECAME THE HIGHEST RANKING

SONG ON THE BILLBOARD'S TOP 100

IN THE LAST 60 YEARS

THE OVERWHELM SONGHAIER WAS BACK

IN 1958.

EVEN I DON'T REMEMBER THAT.

THE CHIPMUNK SONG.

WHETHER YOU LOVE IT OR NOT, WE

THOUGHT WE WOULD CELEBRATE

MARIAH CAREY'S ACHIEVEMENT IN

OUR "MOMENT OF THE DAY."

>> WHENEVER YOU HEAR IT, IT'S SO

UNIQUE.

YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS.

IT ALWAYS FEELS GOOD EVERY TIME

I HEAR IT.

IT'S BEEN GAINING STEADILY FOR

THE LAST FEW WEEKS AS HOLIDAY

MUSIC KICKS IN.

(*)

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT MARIAH'S

SONG IS IT ALWAYS LEADS THE

BUNCH.

IT'S THE ONE SONG THAT IS FAR

AND AWAY THE HOLIDAY SONG EVERY

HOLIDAY SEASON.

IT'S NOT A BALLAD.

A LOT OF HOLIDAY SONGS ARE

BALLADS.

FOR 30 SOMETHING YEARS, HOLIDAY

SONGS HAVE BEEN ON THE HOT 100,

BUT ONLY "DON'T THEY KNOW IT'S

CHRISTMAS" HAS BEEN A HUGE HIT.

AGAIN, MARIAH IS THE ONE,

OUTPERFORMING EVERYTHING.

* ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS

YOU *

>> Ian: SO THERE ARE TWO GROUPS

OF PEOPLE WATCHING TELEVISION

RIGHT NOW, THOSE SINGING ALONG

WITH THE SONG AND THOSE

MUTTERING SAYING, I HATE THAT

SONG, BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS

IN OUR SOCIETY THAT ARE

POLARIZING.

>> Rosemary: HOW COULD YOU BE

AGAINST MARIAH CAREY FROLICKING

IN THE SNOW LIKE THAT AND

SINGING?

[LAUGHTER]

AND IF YOU FOLLOW IAN ON

TWITTER, HE HAS THE SAME

FEELINGS OF "LOVE ACTUALLY."

I LIKE "LOVE ACTUALLY."

I WILL ADMIT IT PUBLICLY.

>> Andrew: MARIAH CAREY IS FINE.

I'M AGNOSTIC ABOUT HER, BUT I

DON'T UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE

OTHER SONGS THAT IT BEAT OUT ON

THE TOP 100 LIST LIKE "WHITE

CHRISTMAS," "MOST WONDERFUL TIME

OF THE YEAR."

>> Rosemary: IT'S CATCHY.

>> Ian: KEEP GOING, ANDREW.

>> Andrew: "JINGLE BELL ROCK."

>> Ian: DO YOU HAVE A CHRISTMAS

SONG FAVOURITE?

>> Rosemary: "BABY IT'S COLD

OUTSIDE."

OR IS THAT TOO CONTROVERSIAL.

>> Andrew:'AT- IAN, WHAT DO YOU

THINK?

>> Ian: I LOVE IT AND IT PLAYED

A KEY ROLE IN "LOVE ACTUALLY,"

SO DOUBLE WIN FOR ME.

>> Andrew: THAT'S "THE NATIONAL"

FOR THIS DECEMBER 17.

GOOD NIGHT.

>> Rosemary: WE'LL BE IN TROUBLE

NOW.

GOOD NIGHT.

>> Ian: GOOD NIGHT.

Looks bad when months do not talk Salman: Katrina Kaif

Actor Salman Khan, who is said to be dubbed by Bollywood, is not hidden from anyone close

to actress Katrina Kaif.

At first there was such a news that both are in relation but there is nothing like that

both the stars have been good friends of each other for a long time.

Though Salman Khan has never talked about Katrina Kaif anymore, Katrina has recently

talked about herself and Salman's relationship and has made many astonishing revelations.

During a conversation with a newspaper, Katrina Kaif told that Salman Khan is his best friend

and he will always be there.

Although Katrina also revealed that Salman is very close to me and I consider him a very

good friend, but one of his habits seems very bad when he does not talk to them for many

days.

Many times it is a full month and it does not matter.

In the next interview, Katrina told that Salman may not talk, but whenever he upsets, he does

not know how he gets the information.

Nobody knows about their upset and Salman gets to know.

Your underwear is inside-out", it doesn't mean: You know everything about underwear;

it means you should take it off and put it on properly.

Ciao.

Warmup Poi Drills and Stretches - Duration: 4:38.

If you're a poi spinner, then your arms and shoulders are some of your most important

assets.

Let's talk for a little bit about how you can warm them up so that you stay spinning

a good, long time.

Happy holidays from Drex here of DrexFactor.com and today I'm fulfilling a request for a

guide to warmups and ways to avoid injury for poi spinners.

Please join my notification squad by hitting the subscribe button and the notification

bell so you know exactly when I drop a new video.

I'd also like to send out a quick thank you to the friends of the channel!

Big thanks to Dark Monk, Flowtoys, LMF Props, Spinballs, and Ultrapoi for helping to make

the videos on this channel possible.

You can learn more about each of them by following the links down in the description of this

video.

So let's talk about how we protect these arms and shoulders!

I will say up front that I have been extraordinarily lucky in that I've

never had any problems with my shoulders.

Could be good genetics or maybe I've just never pushed them in a way that caused a problem.

But I have seen quite a few people who haven't spun nearly as long as me wind up with career-ending

injuries, so I must be doing at least something right.

I'm going to take you through some of the warmups that I do myself and that I go through

with my students, plus I'll talk a little about some common things to avoid.

First up, let's talk about why some of these exercises are helpful: our joints are lubricated

with something called synovial fluid.

Think of it as being like oil in a car.

It makes sure that when you move your bones are moving past each other smoothly rather

than grinding each other down.

These exercises are designed to circulate that synovial fluid through your joints so

you don't injure them.

First up I like to start by gently rolling my wrists.

Some people like to do this by clasping their wrists together but I like to do it with my

wrists free.

I roll them 8 times outward and then 8 times inward.

Now we're going to take this same theme and roll our shoulders back--circling them

from a shrug like we're spinning our poi in wheel plane.

We're going to do this backwards 8 times and then forwards 8 times.

Next we apply the rolling theme to our elbows, circling them gently around the shoulders

backwards 8 times and then forwards 8 times.

And we're going to cap this part of things off by reaching each hand to the ceiling alternately.

I know it's going to be tempting to do full circles with our extended arms but I'm actually

just going to have you reach straight up and down 8 times with each arm.

If you're like me and you have stiff wrists, you might also want to give those a bit of

a stretch.

My favorite way of doing that is to reach one hand out like you're telling someone

to stop and use the other hand to gently pull back on your fingers.

Hold that for 20 seconds.

Then point your fingers down so that your palm is pointing back toward you and again,

use your other hand to gently pull your fingers back toward you.

Hold this one for 20 seconds.

Now go ahead and switch up and do this stretch for the other hand.

Holding your your fingers up and down for 20 seconds at a time.

So that's how I warm up.

Now let's talk a little bit about injury avoidance.

If you take nothing else away from this video, I want you to take this: it's not uncommon

especially early on in your spinning career to attempt to do this thing where you're

reaching straight behind you with your arm underneath your shoulder.

And this is a one-way ticket to messing up your shoulder badly!

Whenever you're reaching behind you, make sure you open up your chest so that your arm

is never under your shoulder.

Every shoulder movement with poi can be accomplished by swinging your hands either out to the sides

or straight up and down and then moving your upper body back and forth.

Here's another one to watch out for: I want you to stand in front of a mirror and raise

your hand as high as you can without lifting your shoulder.

If you're like most people, including myself, you can only go about as high as the shoulder

itself--maybe even just slightly higher.

Realize that this is actually the real range of motion of your shoulder.

When you reach higher you're kicking in a lot more muscles, bones, and ligaments in

your chest and back.

And that's not always a bad thing, but remember to do it in moderation.

This is where things can go wrong if you overdo it.

And what if you do get injured?

You'll want to do some RICE

RICE stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

You can also use a heating pad and slowly get back to treating your joint as normal.

In cases of severe injury, please consult a doctor for further treatment.

Stay healthy out there.

You'll be spinning a lot longer if you do.

Thanks so much for watching--before I turn you loose I just want to thank all my wonderful

supporters on Patreon for making this video and all the videos on this channel possible.

Paul Klee - Facts and Biography of prolific painter Paul Klee. - Duration: 2:17.

Paul Klee was born in a musical family in Munichbuchsee outside Bern.

His mother was from Switzerland, but according to Swiss law he inherited his father's German

citizenship.

After a long distance between music and art, he moved to Munich for art studies 1899 and

did study trips to Italy (1901/02).

From these, he returned to Bern first before settling in Munich in 1906.

In 1914 he traveled with August Macke and Louis Moilliet to Tunisia and discovered the

amazing light.

He writes "The color has me, I no longer have to chase after it.

It's good for me, I know."

This is my feeling in the happiest hour: I and the color are one.

"I'm painter."

After the First World War, when he was a German national for a short period of time at the

German Air Force, he became a teacher at the Bauhaus art school and from 1931 at the Konstakademin

in Düsseldorf.

After the Nazis' empowerment in 1933, an official persecution of Klee began.

A monograph over him burned under the bookcase around the country.

The government agency stamped his art as degenerate.

He received a prohibition as an artist, deprived his college teacher service and 102 works

of art were seized at German museums.

In 1937, some of these were taken at the propagandist art exhibition Entartete Kunst in Munich.

After nearly three decades in Germany, Paul Klee returned to Bern in Switzerland, but

shortly before the Swiss authorities granted him the citizenship he applied for, he died

in Muralto-Locarno in 1940.

Klee worked with different types of expression agents; He painted in oil and watercolor,

and often he combined several different types of materials.

It is difficult to classify Klee, he has his own style, but he is sometimes associated

with expressionism, sometimes with cubism, primitivism and surrealism.

His paintings also feature nativism with small figures, which could almost be made by little

children.

Klee is represented by, among other things, Gothenburg Art Museum.
