It's now Fri. the last day at the end of the week.
I'm here to pull some grass.
These grass are growing on the side of the house.
It rained so it grew very well.
The roots are big, it it was 'jrach' (a type of green)
it would be nice, I can use it.
There is no use for these.
So I pull it to feed the chickens.
These grasses are good too.
Rainy season and the chicken has a lot to eat.
In the summer time they eat vegetables scraps.
Enough for now.
Since it's cold
I don't know what to cook
The dishes that I would like to make
mostly are smelly.
I want to cook it outside.
Like stir fry, deep fried or saute.
When I make it inside the house it smells.
If I open the doors and window the kids will get cold.
Earlier,
my husband called telling me he is buying some Chinese donut.
Chinese donut means we are having rice porridge again.
Let's see this evening,
if we will have chicken porridge
but I want to make can mackerel dip
but it requires cooking outside.
So I cannot decide right now.
Here's the chickens eating.
These are silkie chickens.
They stay small like this and does not get any bigger.
These just started laying.
We just got them last May.
They were small when we got them
but now has started laying.
There is about 2-3 that has not lay yet.
The rest is are laying.
There's one male
to guard all his girls.
Happy pecking.
They are very tame.
They know when humans come they get food
so when I come and have food in my hand they will come peck it.
My hand is empty so they are not coming to peck.
When we were living at the old house
if you followed my videos,
I used to raised chickens before.
The breeds then were the regular size chicken.
It's like the size of the chicken they sell at the supermarket.
It's big like that. Not small like this. The egg are the size of what they sell at the grocery store.
We raised 6 of them.
The coop was smaller than this
because the lot there was smaller.
We did not make the coop,
we just make do with what we had.
Come to this house we have some experience
in raising chickens,
we know how they sleep and what makes it easy to clean
so when we built this coop it was good,
but not 100% perfect.
It's 80-85% good.
We still have adjustments to make
It's easy to clean.
It's rainy season now and it's not wet.
So it does not smell either.
Summer as well, not much problem
they would dig down and scratch the soil.
The roof is corrugated.
It's plastic, not sure what it is call.
The other day,
my husband cut down a branch
right there,
can you all see it?
He cut it
and it fell on the roof
and made a hole
so now using something to cover and protect it for now.
But our goal is
in the summer,
we want to make the roof higher, like a triangle shape.
It will help channel the rain water.
It does that now too that is why it's not wet.
It's just not really perfect yet.
I came up with the style
for my husband to build it.
It's expensive to buy.
It's also small.
So we spend on lumber and materials
and get the style we want
make adjustments and also paint the color we want.
Their poop is collected and place in this hole.
It will then turn to fertilizer
then we use it to feed the plants.
This is a lime tree.
The lime is yellow,
I mean it's green.
But we haven't pick it so it turned to yellow.
More buds coming out.
We got it last year.

I like to use it to make
steamed pork and eggs with fermented fish paste (prohok).
The yolk is really nice and big.
Today we have crab.
Saltwater crab.
Almost $8 a pound.
All are 5 lbs, $41.
It can pinch if not careful.
I am thinking of steaming it.
Steam it with beer.
Put a bottle of this beer.

I'm now preparing to make another dish.
This is
pounding can mackerel in a mortar and pestle.
I've been wanting to eat this several days now
but I don't have time and there is no sun to toast it.
I don't want to do it inside the house
because the fume is strong
and it might irritate them.
So it's Saturday and I can do it outside.
This dish is easy to make
toast all the spices
and then take the can mackerel and saute it
then add some seasoning and pound it all together.
I use tamarind powder
some people have fresh green tamarind
or other sour stuff
you can use those instead too.
This is actually
similar to Tuk Kroeung but a dry version
there is no fermented fish paste sauce.
And if some day you want to eat it as Tuk Kroeung then you just make the fermented fish paste sauce
pour it in
and it will be Tuk Kroeung.
I am making this dry. It's easier to keep and eat.
Just store it in the fridge
and when I want to eat spicy or have veggies
like some cucumbers
I just scoop a little bit out and I can enjoy it.
Just this much spice
and the fume are pretty strong.
For me it smell tasty but for the kids
they can get the irritation.
Today is nice a sunny.
It's cold season but nice and sunny.

In a couple more weeks we will start to dig up the soil
getting ready to gardening.
Probably another 3 weeks.

If I have pea eggplants
saute and add to the mix, it would be good.
But I don't have it. I was thinking of planting it.
I will see if I can get a seedling to plant this year.

There's sugar, chicken powder, fish sauce
and a little bit of salt.
When you pound it taste and adjust accordingly.

except for the tamarind powder.
I will add it when I pound it.
Pour it in.
I want to fry it until it is a little crispy.
Until the liquid evaporates.
New low heat. High heat will dry it out too fast.
It dries up but it will not get crispy.
So use low heat.
I am going to fry it until it's crispy and golden brown
then I will show you the next step.
After you add the seasonings it turns crispy and golden brown.
On Saturdays and Sundays, it's either my house or their house
when it's sunny, either mow the lawn
or blow the leaves.
