Russian military plane crashes en route to Syria with 92 on board - Duration: 0:50.

A Russian military plane with 92 people aboard crashed into the Black Sea on its way to Syria

on Sunday local time.

The Russian defense ministry says... there were no survivors.

The plane carrying military personnel and members of a military choir and dance ensemble,

disappeared from radar two minutes after taking off from the southern city of Sochi, where

it stopped to refuel.

It was on its way from Moscow to a Russian air base in Syria to entertain troops there

for New Years Eve.

A defense ministry spokesman says fragments of the plane were found... as well as four

bodies.

Russian news agencies report a terror attack had been ruled out and preliminary information

indicated the cause was likely a technical malfunction or pilot error.

Chile hit by M7.6 quake, no casualties reported - Duration: 0:51.

A seven-point-six magnitude earthquake hit the island of Chiloe, a famous tourist spot

in Chile on Christmas Day.

Roads and bridges were damaged and electricity was cut off to more than 22-thousand households,

but no casualties have been reported.

Chilean authorities say some 4-thousand people evacuated from their homes following a tsunami

alert.

The alert has since been lifted but Chile's National Emergency Services chief is still

suggesting people keep a close watch and move to higher ground.

Chile has been hit by several earthquakes in the past as it sits on the so-called Pacific

Ring of Fire.

More than 500 people died in 2010 after an eight-point-eight magnitude quake jolted the

South American country.

There might be a few tired folk in Korea this morning after people got swept up in the Christmas

spirit on Sunday.

However,...

Christmas Day is more than just exchanging gifts and having a nice meal with family and

friends.

Our Kim Hyesung takes a look at how the holiday was observed this year in Korea and in some

other parts of our world.

Celebrations, laughter and joyous hymns.

Christmas Day mass at Seoul's iconic Myeongdong Cathedral was attended by around two-thousand

people, including many families with children,... who reflected on the meaning of the holiday

as Archbishop Andrew Yeom Soo-jung delivered a message of love and hope.

And for the first time in three years, Christians in the ancient Iraqi town of Bartella celebrated

the birth of Jesus.

The town, near Mosul, was home to thousands of Assyrian Christians, most of whom fled

in 2014 when Islamist militants took over.

But Iraqi forces recaptured the town in October this year, and now, many of Bartella's residents

are back home.

"This is the best day of my life.

I am so happy to be back in my area and to my church.

No matter what those rats, Islamic State, do they will never keep us from our homes."

Christmas lights were also lit in Berlin, where twelve people were killed last Monday

in a truck attack for which so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility.

The Christmas market where the attack occured was covered with flowers and candles, but

not without some anxiety -- security remains high and memories of the attack are still

fresh.

In the West Bank town of Bethlehem, where the Bible says Jesus was born, thousands of

tourists from around the world, along with pilgrims and locals celebrated Christmas Eve.

The acting Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem led the Mass in the Church of the Nativity and

welcomed pilgrims from various countries in their native languages.

And in Vatican City, the head of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis urged Christians

to celebrate the birth of Jesus by thinking about the plight of today's children, lamenting

how some must flee bombs or make dangerous sea journeys in migrant boats.

At the solemn but joyous Christmas Eve service, Pope Francis said Christmas had been "taken

hostage" by materialism, saying the season needs more humility.

More people drink alone... 40% exceed moderate levels - Duration: 1:54.

Traditionally Christmas means getting together with family or friends.

But times are changing.

A new poll shows some would rather spend their time drinking alone.

Kim Mok-yeon sheds light on the phenomenon.

In Korea, the culture of "hon-sul" , which in Korean means "drinking alone," has grown

rapidly.

That's partly attributed to the introduction of an anti-graft law this past autumn... meant

to stop bribery and corruption in terms of cash, gifts and meals.

The law's restrictions on paying for expensive drinks for people who work in certain sectors...

has meant more people have taken to enjoying a drink by themselves.

In fact, according to a survey by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on drinking trends

over the past six months, 80 percent of respondents said the law's had an effect on drinking culture.

"I enjoy drinking alone because most of my friends are busy."

"I often drink a can of beer before I go to bed."

The survey found further that two out of three adults aged 20 to 40 have had a drink alone,

and nearly 25 percent of them said they're doing it more often than they were six months

ago.

The average amount of alcohol they had in one session was 4 glasses for beer, 6 glasses

for Soju and 3 glasses for wine and liquor.

However, the research showed that some 40 percent of solo drinkers imbibe harmful amounts.

People in that category drank 6 to 8 glasses of beer or 6 to 9 glasses of Soju when by

themselves.

"Solo drinkers tend to become more dependent on alcohol because they cannot control the

amount they drink.

Its advised to drink moderately and eat some food when drinking alone."

The emergence of the latest drinking phenomenon is also attributed to the rising number of

people living on their own.

Former presidential secretary summoned for questioning....... - Duration: 1:54.

While most people were enjoying the holiday, there was no time to rest for the independent

counsel investigating the power abuse scandal gripping Korea.

There was little festive cheer as investigators brought in even more key suspects on Christmas

Day.

Hwang Hojun reports.

Even on Christmas Day, the independent counsel team's probe continues.

The investigators publicly summoned President Park Geun-hye's former personal secretary

Jeong Ho-seong on Sunday early in the afternoon.

Handcuffed and wearing his prison garb, it's the first time the team has called on President

Park's former secretary since it launched last Wednesday.

Upon his arrival, he quickly got on the elevator and didn't answer any questions.

Along with Choi Soon-sil, President Park's confidant, and Kim Chong, the former second

vice minister for culture,... both summoned and questioned on Saturday,... Jeong is another

key suspect at the heart of the corruption and influence-peddling scandal.

He is accused of leaking state secrets to Choi, including 47 confidential documents.

Shortly after Jeong arrived on Sunday, the independent counsel team again publicly summoned

Kim Chong.

Kim had been grilled the day before for over 13 hours.

"By summoning former presidential secretary Jeong Ho-seong, we plan to inquire about the

allegations being investigated by the independent counsel... in addition to the existing charges

against him.And we brought in Kim Chong again, to complete the questioning that we couldn't

finish last night."

In a briefing shortly after the arrival of the suspects, the independent counsel spokesperson,

Lee Kyu-chul, said the team is currently weighing whether it'll be necessary to conduct a search

of Cheong Wa Dae, the Korean presidential residence.

Meanwhile, regarding the many rumors concerning the whereabouts of Choi Soon-sil's daughter,

Chung Yoo-ra, the spokesman said there are no new developments that the independent counsel

team can confirm as of now.

Experts advise early treatment for psoriasis - Duration: 1:33.

Cold, dry winters are dreadful for people living with psoriasis, a skin condition that

causes red, flaky patches.

The visible symptoms can clear up, but they are likely to come back, so it's best to treat

the condition as soon as possible.

Park Se-young has more.

Psoriasis symptoms usually get better in the summer, but dry winter weather tends to make

them worse.

The number of Koreans with the skin condition has been on the rise, with about 165-thousand

people having received treatment in 2015.

Nearly 60 percent of people with the condition were men, and adults made up 93 percent of

the total nationwide.

During the early stages of psoriasis, red patches of skin are covered by silvery-white

scales.

The condition can also affect the nails and eventually cause psoriatic arthritis in the

fingers and toes.

Although there is no cure for psoriasis, it can be managed, and experts advise early treatment

to minimize the symptoms and prevent complications.

Mild symptoms can be relieved using topical treatments, while more severe cases must be

treated using medication and light therapy.

"Patients should refrain from exfoliating and it is especially important to keep the

skin moisturized.

It's also best to avoid smoking and drinking."

Since psoriasis is also linked to stress, experts advise people with the condition to

find ways to relax and increase their peace of mind.

N. Korea doubled coal exports to China ahead of sanctions: KITA - Duration: 0:51.

North Korea reportedly doubled its shipments of coal to China last month... leading up

to the UN Security Council's passage of sanctions banning such exports by the regime.

According to the Seoul-based Korea International Trade Association, or KITA,... coal shipments

jumped 112 percent in November from a year earlier to one-hundred-39-point-four million

U.S. dollars worth.

The total for all items targeted by the sanctions, including iron and iron ore, surged by nearly

100 percent.

Coal is North Korea's largest single export item... and 40 percent of it goes to China.

The UN resolution was passed late last month, and KITA speculated Pyongyang purposely boosted

its shipments before the tougher sanctions were approved.

Korea has chosen the sites it'll submit as candidates for UNESCO's world heritage lists

for 2018.

Those are the Confucian academies of Korea's Joseon Dynasty -- known as Seowon -- and...

the tidal flats along the nation's southwestern coast.

For centuries, the Seowons were where, among other things, Koreans prepared for the state

civil service examinations.

The Cultural Heritage Administration said Sunday nine of them will bid for UNESCO's

world cultural heritage recognition.

Tidal flats along the southwest coast of Korea will be nominated for UNESCO's world natural

heritage.

Korea will submit the applications in 2018 and the World Heritage Committee will make

a final decision the next year.
