N. Korea likely to push for idolization of Kim Jong-un..... - Duration: 1:37.

The South Korean government has laid out its predictions for North Korea in the new year.

It says the regime will seek to further elevate Kim Jong-un in the eyes of the North Korean

people.

North Korea is expected to further cement Kim Jong-un's rule… and could seek to re-establish

foreign relations with other nations under the status of a nuclear state in the New Year.

Seoul's unification ministry said Monday that the North Korean regime is likely to push

for an idolization of Kim through several major anniversaries.

The dates to look out for are the 105th birthday of the regime founder and Kim Jong-un's grandfather

Kim Il-sung, the 75th birthday of late North Korean leader and Kim Jong-un's father Kim

Jong-il,... and the 100th anniversary of Kim Il-sung's first wife Kim Jong-suk's birthday.

The ministry did not leave out the possibility of the North advancing its nuclear and missile

programs by carrying out provocations next year.

Pushing forward with its Byungjin policy, a parallel development of the economy and

its nuclear weapons program,... the form of provocation could reportedly come as a sixth

nuclear test or a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile launch.

Under the status of a nuclear state, the reclusive regime is also expected to seek better ties

with the U.S. while asking Washington to scrap its anti-North Korea policies when the new

Trump administration takes office.

But most experts say Pyongyang is not likely to carry out a provocation until it has a

clear picture of the new incoming U.S. administration's North Korea policy next year.
