Suicide Squad was one of the most anticipated movies of all time and when fans finally got
to see it, their opinions were very divided.
Some people were mad about the lack of The Joker, others were thrilled with Margot Robbie's
Harley Quinn and Will Smith's Deadshot and some people didn't know what to think.
Regardless of where you stand, Suicide Squad's marketing made sure that people knew about
some of the crazy stuff that was happening during it's production.

Harley and Joker Scenes Suicide Squad was met with very divisive reviews
but one thing that pretty much everyone seemed to agree on was that Margot Robbie was awesome
in the role of Harley Quinn.
Before the release of the film, Robbie actually revealed she and Jared Leto did not rehearse
prior to filming their scenes and that all of her reactions to his insanity were genuine.
This was a decision made by Robbie and director David Ayer as they felt it would add a level
of danger and unpredictability to the Joker and Harley relationship.
It seemed to have worked well as friends were hungry for more Joker and of course, more
Harley.
Croc Story Suicide Squad had a very big vast to deal
with and introduce and they did a pretty thorough job of providing back-stories for all of the
main Squad members.
Unfortunately many of Killer Croc's backstory scenes were removed from the final cut, including
scenes depicting his entire life as a social outcast due to his physical appearance.
These scenes also would have shown Croc crossing paths with Batman while he worked for various
crime bosses in Gotham.
One interesting scene would have even shown Croc as a sculptor, but it didn't make it
into the final cut.
The final film only gave us a small window into Croc, which is too bad, because it seems
like he's one interesting dude.
Joker Laugh Most of the time, if you are lucky enough
to see a professional actor in the streets, you want to go say hi and maybe even get a
photo.
This probably would not have been the case if you had bumped into Jared Leto while he
was getting into character in the streets of New York City and Toronto.
Leto reportedly was working on his Joker laugh and was walking the streets testing out different
types of laughs, while studying which style made people the most uncomfortable.
Joker Casting These days fans follow the production of their
favorite movies from the moment they are announced until they finally make it to the big screen.
Suicide Squad was no different as fans of the series stayed informed on everything from
reshoots to casting rumors.
One thing that was kept rather quiet was that Jared Leto wasn't actually David Ayer's
first choice to play the clown prince of Gothan.
In fact, Ryan Gosling was sought out first for the role of The Joker.
It was reported that he turned down the role because he didn't want to sign on to a multi-movie
contract.
Jared Leto ended up in the role, and the rest is history.
Body Hair As one of the many bizarre things Jared Leto
did to prepare for his role as the Joker, he also decided to shave his eyebrows in an
effort to make him look more deranged.
He wasn't the only one who did this for the movie, coincidentally, Jay Hernandez,
who played El Diablo, shaved his eyebrows for his role since his character was designed
to have no hair on his body.
This choice saved Hernandez half an hour a day in the makeup chair.
Unfortunately, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje wasn't so lucky as it took the makeup team five hours
for the prosthetic make-up to be applied to his head body each time he needed to shoot
a scene.
Harley Casting While reading the comic books in preparation
to direct the film, David Ayer had Margot Robbie in mind for the role of Harley Quinn.
This seemed like a good fit as she was just coming off the major success of The Wolf Of
Wall Street and was beginning to shoot up as a bankable broad.
However, Warner Bros offered Emma Roberts the role first, but she turned it down to
star in Scream Queens.
Some other big actresses such as Alison Brie, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Emma Watson, Zooey
Deschanel and many more were also considered for the role of Harley Quinn.
Ultimately, Ayer got his way and Margot Robbie became an amazing Harley Quinn.
Enchantress Prep Cara Delevingne has had a very successful
modeling career and she has only lately starting transitioning into more of an actor.
David Ayer is known for taking risks with his movies and it he actually cast Cara Delevingne
before there was an actual script for Suicide Squad.
It was reported that Ayer asked her to prepare for her role as Enchantress by stripping naked
in the woods, preferably underneath a full moon, and walking around in the dirt.
She obliged, in the privacy of her sister's country home and Ayer felt that she was right
for the role.
We aren't sure if this is super creepy or genius directing, we will let you decide.
SKWAD Tatoos The marketing around Suicide Squad made sure
to let fans knows the crew of DC criminals really were a solid squad, but it turns out
the actors took things one step further.
During the production of the film the majority of the cast decided to get the word "SKWAD"
tattooed on them as a gesture of solidarity.
While most of them got it professionally done, some people opted to let stars Margot Robbie
and Will Smith actually give them their tats.
While method acting is intense, it seems pretty tame compared to permanently marking your
body for a role like the Suicide Squad did.
Footage Leak Back in 2015, the first footage of Suicide
Squad was shown in a teaser trailer during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The trailer was meant to be a glorified sizzle reel, just showing off some of the best stuff
they had shot so far and Warner Bros. has no intention of releasing this teaser to the
public.
Unfortunately, a low quality version was filmed on someone's phone and surfaced online.
This put Warner Bros in a very tough spot and they felt obligated to release the footage
in HD and call it their first official trailer.
With how Suicide Squad turned out, maybe this leak was the first indication that trouble
was a brewing.
Leto On Set By this point it is pretty common knowledge
that Jared Leto got up to some crazy stuff while getting in character for his role as
The Joker.
Anyone who was on set with Leto was happy to tell the press how uncomfortable he made
everyone feel and how he refused to break character between scenes.
Will Smith has even stated that he feels like he has never truly met the real Jared Leto.
Leto also famously sent his cast-mates some pretty unorthodox gifts such as a dead hog,
used condoms, creepy poems and a ton more.
This all seems like a lot of work to get into character, but Leto is an academy award winner
so we will have to trust him!

How OP OTK Warrior Used To Be
Whats up guys its me Jeremy! Mean Streets of Gadgetzan is in full swing now and a lot
of people are really happy with how diverse and balanced the standard format is! Still
though, things weren't always that way, especially in the alpha and beta when some
really crazy OP decks existed. But one of the worst offenders was the deck that had
charging 0 mana 8/8s! Thats right its molten giant OTK warrior, and today we're gonna be
talking about just how OP this deck used to be! So let's get to it!
So what made the deck so OP? Well first let's talk a little bit about how the deck worked!
The basic premise was to draw cards and use removal to stall long enough until you had
all the combo pieces you needed and were at a life total low enough where you got free
or at least relatively cheap molten giants. After both these conditions were met, you
could kill your opponent with charging molten giants in a couple of different ways! Let's
break down some of the cards that made this possible, many of which have actually been
nerfed or changed since then. So first up we have Molten Giant, which is
pretty much the namesake of the deck. Now a lot of you might know this since the nerf
was pretty recent, but Molten Giant actually used to cost 20 instead of 25, meaning that
you could cast it for 0 at ten or less life, rather than 5 or less life. This actually
makes a huge difference, since if the deck had the nerfed version of molten giant, it
would have been much much harder to go off, and a lot riskier too. Next let's talk a
little bit about Warsong Commander, which was the main way to give your molten giants
charge in the deck. Warsong Commander has actually been changed a couple times, but
the version that made this deck really OP was the two/three that gave all your other
minions charge. That's right, all your other minions. There was no "less than 3 attack"
clause, no restrictions, you could give anything charge. Imagine if this card hadn't been
changed, you could have done things like warsong commander + dr.boom, for a a charging dr.boom
and charging boom bots. And that's not even close to the most broken thing you would be
able to do with old Warsong Commander. Now Warsong Commander did get nerfed in the closed
beta, more specifically in patch 1.0.0.4458, and after that it no longer worked with Molten
Giants, but during the time it gave everything charge it was really really broken. The other
way to give your Molten Giants charge was the literal card "charge". Charge actually
went through a couple of really broken iterations before settling at a three mana spell, and
then being changed again pretty recently, so let's go over some of those. In the early
Alpha charge actually read "give your minions charge this turn" and cost 0 mana. So it
was basically Warsong Commander's effect on a 0 mana spell, and it's pretty easy to
see why that would be really broken. Now there were a lot of really broken things in the
alpha, and Molten Giant OTK didn't really become popular till the beta after charge
had already been nerfed once, but it's pretty crazy to think about what could have happened
if the deck had access to this really OP version of charge. In an early alpha patch charge
was nerfed to just being able to give a single minion charge, but still cost 0 mana. This
is still pretty OP, since it let you do some crazy things with moltens and faceless manipulator,
but we'll get to that in a little bit. Charge was actually nerfed again in the same beta
patch that Warsong Commander was, and it costing 3 mana along with the warsong nerf hurt the
deck a huge amount, although it's resurfaced a few times since then, especially when Thaurissan
came out. So now that we've gone over some of the pre-nerf
cards the deck had access to, let's put it all together and talk about just how really
broken this deck was. So molten giant OTK actually had a couple different ways of going
off depending on the list and your draws. The most common was to play warsong commander,
play a free molten giant or two, attack, and then bounce a molten giant to your hand with
youthful brewmaster. Since all your other minions have charge, and the molten giant
costs 0 mana, you could then just replay it and attack with it again. Two brewmasters+two
moltens+warsong was actually 38 damage (32 from the moltens+6 from the brewmasters),
although generally the opponent had already taken some damage and less damage would often
be enough. Another way to go off would be two play a Molten Giant, give it charge, and
then faceless manipulator it once or twice. Since the molten and the old version of charge
cost 0 mana, you could faceless the charged molten twice, to get three charging molten
giants and deal 24 damage for ten mana. You could obviously also mix and match these combos,
tossing in a faceless molten with your warsong, just straight casting charge on two different
molten giants, etc. The rest of the deck had a lot of weapons like war axe and gorehowl,
since you wanted to control the board but also decrease your life total enough to get
free moltens. It had plentiful card draw to find your combo pieces, playing cards like
acolyte of pain or coldlight oracle to dig through your deck. The deck also played things
like abomination and baron geddon, which were both decent cards to just play at the time,
but also damaged you a little bit more to make it easier to enable your moltens. The
remaining cards were all pretty much standard warrior removal, with things like brawl, shield
slam, execute and the like. A lot of people also played Alexstraza, which could both be
used to make it easier to kill the opponent, or to set your life total to 15 so you were
closer to free molten giants. So what made this deck so broken? Well any
deck that can kill the opponent from an empty board and full life total pretty much automatically
gets into the territory of being broken, and Molten Giant Warrior not only did so consistently,
but also had insane survivability in the early game. It was like playing control warrior,
but instead of having to win in fatigue or carefully use your resources, you could just
stall a few turns and kill your opponent. Additionally this combo was pretty resilient
to any kind of hate, since it was all from hand and you often actually had enough damage
or mana left over to clear taunts, whether with your charging minions or with things
like shield slam or execute. The other cool thing about this deck was that your aggro
matchup was actually really good, which is generally not the case for combo decks. Not
only did you have a lot of great tools with all your standard warrior removal and armor,
but the combo itself punished the opponent getting too aggressive. Aggro decks often
damage themselves, whether through attacking your taunts/minions with weapons, or through
things like life tap, and so if they got your life total too low it was actually pretty
reasonable to do a partial combo to kill them, or at least put yourself in a really good
position. Overall Molten Giant OTK did very well against pretty much any kind of deck,
had access to a lot of really overpowered tools that later got nerfed, and was probably
one of the best OTK decks in Hearthstone history! Those were some of the card changes and strategies
that made molten OTK warrior really OP, what are your thoughts on this deck? Let us know

Civilian Contractor Update on Turkey - Duration: 5:10.
This is Brian Wiklendt with Garfinkel Schwartz and I'd like to continue to provide you
with updates on what's happening in world conflicts around the world.
Today I'm going to talk to you about Turkey which is an important
area to watch because of its location in the Middle East and political instability there.
Of course many people have seen the shooting of a Russian Ambassador to Turkey who was
shot in Ankara, Turkey, on Monday, December 19, 2016.
We keep up with where U.S. troops might be sent in 2017 because that's a strong indicator
of where our civilian contractors may be working.
We always recommend you learn as much as you
can before you go.
Kurdish groups have been fighting for an independent Kurdish state to be combined with Kurdish
areas in Iraq.
Turkish President Erdogan barely survived a coup attempt in July 2016 and later cracked
down on suspected coup conspirators by arresting 32,000 people.
Why does the United States care?
The U.S. has close ties to a tribal Kurdish group called the Peshmerga fighting ISIS in
Iraq supplying the Peshmerga with arms, air power, intelligence and hundreds of millions
of dollars in financial support.
About 2,000 people have been killed in the fighting.
Because of these ties, Erdogan has accused the U.S. of being involved in the coup attempt.
He has called for the extradition from the U.S. of Fethullah Gulen, a religious and political
leader in exile in Pennsylvania who's been suspected of inciting the insurrection.
Another reason to worry: there is a joint U.S.-NATO air base in Turkey called Incirlik,
which was briefly under siege during the attack on Erdogan.
About 2,500 U.S. troops are stationed at Incirlik, which is command central for the U.S. fight
against ISIS.
Whether it's Syria, Libya, the East China Sea, the South China Sea, South Korea, Iraq,
Yemen, the Ukraine, Afghanistan, Eastern Europe or anywhere else in the world, if you're
a contractor, you really need to talk with a Defense Base lawyer before you go to work.

So many horses get nervous and are scared of the arena's.
What is your opinion about that?
I think its not easy for the horses. Especially the warm-up is a bit chaotic.
People are jumping and we are not used to that.

This is Bridget, your resident poet/nerd/person.
I don't know who I am - maybe you know who I am. If you do, let me know.
I was just looking through some of my old poetry, trying to see if I can figure out
any themes in the overall arc of the work I've done, just-
you know, 'cause poetry's a weird thing, there's no real-
*snaps fingers* Boom! I have an idea, I'm going to write it out
and get it done, there's a lot more of
"I forgot I wrote that thing! How did I write that thing??
Man, I wish I could write things like that thing again."
Um.
So I found one of my old poems
and I figured I'd share it with all of you guys.
Um, it was first published in the Spring 2015
issue of Eye Contact.

Um, anyway, the poem is -
very creatively titled, I like to be creative -
'A Winter Poem.'
Light and rust, white-washed roads encrusted with salt.
All the cold noses, all their numb toes,
my friends shivering in a frequency deeper than grief.
It's home,
where winter comes ambling in and then we think, "Less than,"
but not of sleep,
of dreaming and quiet hours behind a field
breaking through the far white night
or down a city road spraying slush,
photo-negative frost lines etched against the sky.
Soft static buzzes high to ground level,
silence noted and voted a blanket to fold
around these shivering cities,
double-layered on back roads shimmering pretty.
I lose my hands to my sleeves
and my voice to the freezing air.
I'm slow but safe.
Parked the car and stood head back to the night,
cold sinking in until I forget all my mammalian history.
Winter comes shambling in and then
we shake the sleep from our cardigans,
settling in for another bite of whatever beauty brings;
the taste of tired violence.
The ring of forced silence.
What stillness!
This is a season that says,
"You belong here,
you will stay here,
and you will heal."
Hello, winter.
Come and kiss me like all the other seasons do.
For this moment, I will stand willingly, side by side with you.
I've picked this, I'll keep on shivering.
Whatever grief remains, I am home.
That's what I got.
I may share some other poems with you guys at some point,
I've got a lot of slam poems sitting on my hard drive
that I've never actually performed because
I'm awkward and nervous, yay!

10 SUICIDE SQUAD Joker and Harley Quinn On Set Secrets! - Duration: 6:32.
Suicide Squad was one of the most anticipated movies of all time and when fans finally got
to see it, their opinions were very divided.
Some people were mad about the lack of The Joker, others were thrilled with Margot Robbie's
Harley Quinn and Will Smith's Deadshot and some people didn't know what to think.
Regardless of where you stand, Suicide Squad's marketing made sure that people knew about
some of the crazy stuff that was happening during it's production.
We've compiled a list of some of the most interesting tidbits in our list of 10 Suicide

Harley and Joker Scenes Suicide Squad was met with very divisive reviews
but one thing that pretty much everyone seemed to agree on was that Margot Robbie was awesome
in the role of Harley Quinn.
Before the release of the film, Robbie actually revealed she and Jared Leto did not rehearse
prior to filming their scenes and that all of her reactions to his insanity were genuine.
This was a decision made by Robbie and director David Ayer as they felt it would add a level
of danger and unpredictability to the Joker and Harley relationship.
It seemed to have worked well as friends were hungry for more Joker and of course, more
Harley.
Croc Story Suicide Squad had a very big vast to deal
with and introduce and they did a pretty thorough job of providing back-stories for all of the
main Squad members.
Unfortunately many of Killer Croc's backstory scenes were removed from the final cut, including
scenes depicting his entire life as a social outcast due to his physical appearance.
These scenes also would have shown Croc crossing paths with Batman while he worked for various
crime bosses in Gotham.
One interesting scene would have even shown Croc as a sculptor, but it didn't make it
into the final cut.
The final film only gave us a small window into Croc, which is too bad, because it seems
like he's one interesting dude.
Joker Laugh Most of the time, if you are lucky enough
to see a professional actor in the streets, you want to go say hi and maybe even get a
photo.
This probably would not have been the case if you had bumped into Jared Leto while he
was getting into character in the streets of New York City and Toronto.
Leto reportedly was working on his Joker laugh and was walking the streets testing out different
types of laughs, while studying which style made people the most uncomfortable.
Joker Casting These days fans follow the production of their
favorite movies from the moment they are announced until they finally make it to the big screen.
Suicide Squad was no different as fans of the series stayed informed on everything from
reshoots to casting rumors.
One thing that was kept rather quiet was that Jared Leto wasn't actually David Ayer's
first choice to play the clown prince of Gothan.
In fact, Ryan Gosling was sought out first for the role of The Joker.
It was reported that he turned down the role because he didn't want to sign on to a multi-movie
contract.
Jared Leto ended up in the role, and the rest is history.
Body Hair As one of the many bizarre things Jared Leto
did to prepare for his role as the Joker, he also decided to shave his eyebrows in an
effort to make him look more deranged.
He wasn't the only one who did this for the movie, coincidentally, Jay Hernandez,
who played El Diablo, shaved his eyebrows for his role since his character was designed
to have no hair on his body.
This choice saved Hernandez half an hour a day in the makeup chair.
Unfortunately, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje wasn't so lucky as it took the makeup team five hours
for the prosthetic make-up to be applied to his head body each time he needed to shoot
a scene.
Harley Casting While reading the comic books in preparation
to direct the film, David Ayer had Margot Robbie in mind for the role of Harley Quinn.
This seemed like a good fit as she was just coming off the major success of The Wolf Of
Wall Street and was beginning to shoot up as a bankable broad.
However, Warner Bros offered Emma Roberts the role first, but she turned it down to
star in Scream Queens.
Some other big actresses such as Alison Brie, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Emma Watson, Zooey
Deschanel and many more were also considered for the role of Harley Quinn.
Ultimately, Ayer got his way and Margot Robbie became an amazing Harley Quinn.
Enchantress Prep Cara Delevingne has had a very successful
modeling career and she has only lately starting transitioning into more of an actor.
David Ayer is known for taking risks with his movies and it he actually cast Cara Delevingne
before there was an actual script for Suicide Squad.
It was reported that Ayer asked her to prepare for her role as Enchantress by stripping naked
in the woods, preferably underneath a full moon, and walking around in the dirt.
She obliged, in the privacy of her sister's country home and Ayer felt that she was right
for the role.
We aren't sure if this is super creepy or genius directing, we will let you decide.
SKWAD Tatoos The marketing around Suicide Squad made sure
to let fans knows the crew of DC criminals really were a solid squad, but it turns out
the actors took things one step further.
During the production of the film the majority of the cast decided to get the word "SKWAD"
tattooed on them as a gesture of solidarity.
While most of them got it professionally done, some people opted to let stars Margot Robbie
and Will Smith actually give them their tats.
While method acting is intense, it seems pretty tame compared to permanently marking your
body for a role like the Suicide Squad did.
Footage Leak Back in 2015, the first footage of Suicide
Squad was shown in a teaser trailer during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The trailer was meant to be a glorified sizzle reel, just showing off some of the best stuff
they had shot so far and Warner Bros. has no intention of releasing this teaser to the
public.
Unfortunately, a low quality version was filmed on someone's phone and surfaced online.
This put Warner Bros in a very tough spot and they felt obligated to release the footage
in HD and call it their first official trailer.
With how Suicide Squad turned out, maybe this leak was the first indication that trouble
was a brewing.
Leto On Set By this point it is pretty common knowledge
that Jared Leto got up to some crazy stuff while getting in character for his role as
The Joker.
Anyone who was on set with Leto was happy to tell the press how uncomfortable he made
everyone feel and how he refused to break character between scenes.
Will Smith has even stated that he feels like he has never truly met the real Jared Leto.
Leto also famously sent his cast-mates some pretty unorthodox gifts such as a dead hog,
used condoms, creepy poems and a ton more.
This all seems like a lot of work to get into character, but Leto is an academy award winner
so we will have to trust him!

THE USAF SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAM - Duration: 17:17.
one day are
remember walking into the office and
telling my SE SEI had at the time if I
don't come back this afternoon i'm gone
and it's not because I've left i'm about
to die
there are many people who think if you
have suicidal thoughts you tell anybody
about it seemed to your career which is
simply not true you you've gotta let
soldiers have an outlet where they can
dialogue and talk about what it is
they've done and what it is they've been
through if they carry this the slightest
bit of shame or guilt or fear or anxiety
from what they did her experience and
they don't have an opportunity to talk
about that with someone then it's just
going to bottle up it's just going to
get worse and worse and worse yet it's
not about us it's about those
subordinate soldiers that we have with
them everything I've seen numerous times
now that personal have actually come for
said they need help
I've actually been returned to duty and
there they able to move on with their
lives if it wasn't for the supervisor
who did have any suicide prevention
training he was simply watching his
soldier I didn't look right to him when
I walked into that door he had been
noticing time I won't be sitting in
front of you today I bday
I was as a mortuary affairs my first to
her
hey I didn't know what to expect the
injuries are just horrific a young kid
19 years old three four years younger
than Joe had died and Joe had you know
just helped pick this young man often he
was actually into many pieces and had to
be picked up and put in a bag and Joe
did that there was a lot of denial of
stuffing that down so that he didn't
have to deal with it he was having more
and more nightmares waking up in cold
sweats waking up screaming and the only
answer for him was to take himself out
of that pain and that's what he did when
i got home after my tour I was very
angry like most of us soldiers we think
we're home it's over and actually assist
beginning
he he was really depressed and he would
tell me he's like you said yeah I never
felt this bad before and he's like that
i don't know how to describe it other
than feel like your heart is always
breaking at one point or another we tend
to think of yourself as a victim by
myself I had cancer once i was depressed
I was focused on everything I was losing
but i still have a wife and daughter if
you only focus on what you've lost
you are a victim I now realized that I
had something to live in 2007 I started
having some health issues and we
couldn't figure out what they were
that's not really something you want to
be going through when you're going
through a divorce
especially when you really honestly were
in love New Year's Day of 2008 i spent
the entire day drinking
so I started looking around the house
for something to to hang myself with
nobody suicidal all the time I can't I
can't express enough there there are
people who reached a low point in their
life and if you can get them through
that point they often are not suicidal
anymore
we stood together and joked in the
hangar that night about everything under
the Sun so you probably got home around
one o'clock that next morning in about
seven o'clock that same morning i got a
phone call and was told it he'd shot
himself in the head sitting in his
living room you know this is a super
trooper major who I just been with five
or six hours prior to that and I didn't
have a clue in the guard because you
don't see your soldiers all all the time
like you do on active duty
you know they have their civilian job
you have your civilian job you each have
families it's hard to kind of make time
for you know the phone calls in the the
check-ins that she would normally do
when you're on active duty we see them
every day we came in to drill December
2009 and the announcement that he had
killed his girlfriend and then killed
himself
we were processing out of the army for
doing drugs
yes we're taking this guy out of the
army so you kind of expect him to be a
little you know mad and in a bad mood
and that kind of thing but why don't we
ask why why didn't we find out why this
was going on
why didn't we know try to help him try
to just be more involved in in the
reason behind why he was doing it
because somebody's you know they've gone
to the trouble to join the army met the
standard they finished basic training in
there AIT and all that kind of thing
another three unit and you know now
they're bad soldiers like what happened
you know what's going on is making them
you know not put in the effort to at
least meet the standard you don't ever
want to have to relearn those lessons
another time
that was the motivation for me when I
became a battalion commander was charged
with the lives of 600 young men that was
gonna do everything I could to make sure
that we had leaders who knew what to
look out for
we need to continue to embrace ions
around our soldiers and let him know
that were there for them and it changed
me as a man just in terms of slowing
down long enough to to care a little
more and talk to people
there's no one like a mom and a dad to
share the things of their child and it
breaks my heart that I have no one to
share this with I mean like look look at
our daughter publish our daughter is
doing
no one's gonna replace him or her breaks
my heart i think not even him leaving me
so much but being hurt just breaks my
heart and I hate him for we had one
soldier that a that killed herself in a
foundation memorial and as his mother
stood in front of his photograph I just
sit there and watch the paint that one
went through and I mean to bother me as
a parent I think it's okay to yell kick
scream curse be mad
at them but i think it had to come to a
point where I had to forgive and live i
had to live for myself
I think most of the time you can simply
just save somebody's life by talking to
them are being intervener the being the
control before they commit the act he
sent me a text message is said and tell
stories I lover i'm like what you
talking about and take them back and I
didn't get anything for like good 15-20
minutes so I called 911
you know I explained what was going on
and when they went up they said they
found a whole bottle of signals from
scattered on the table and he was like
trying to eat them when they kicked in
the door we're not this constrained
soldier we need to concentrate on the
family and whether it's a soldier
whether it's the spouse where the
children we have a genuine concern and
care for the entire family i have
actually had razor blades to my skin
ready to just end it and one of the kids
and knock on the bathroom door and I
can't do this I can't leave my kids
alone can leave my husband with these
kids don't run him over
I couldn't do it but I knew that I
couldn't live with the pain anymore
it felt like someone took a baseball bat
to inform my knee you know through my
thigh into my groin and your body tells
you things you need to listen I wasn't
listening at all
he's always been instructed to ignore
the pain and you play through it i also
was given a bag of medication roxicet
for breakthrough pain and oxycontin and
they say take is needed the real problem
was that the more severe the pain was
the more i took my wife had had
conversations with this physicians
assistant / nurse they both basically
saved my life because they saw in me
things that I didn't realize I was
fortunate enough to have people around
me that one character me and love me and
took care of me and also could speak to
me when nobody else could
and to tell me what was going on that I
didn't realize and see but sometimes
drugs are wonderful things for people
they can really help in some situations
and when you combine medication
counseling and education together you've
got a real powerful tool available to
you know those vegetative signs that go
along with depression are also part of
anxiety and I I just remember that after
being on the medication that that
anxiety went away you know we can't let
this the soldiers and families struggle
with this independently we can't let our
are hired professionals alone help fix
them the leaders have got to be bought
in to the fact that needs okay to say
hey I'm not okay
and be able to give soldiers the
opportunity to go and get help if that's
in fact other feeling my first sergeant
and my supervisor shared with me that
they've been through experiences with
finances they've had security clearance
issues so they understood they
understand we're going to challenge you
to do the right thing but we're letting
you know we've been there too and maybe
you know you really do have to care
about that person and that soldier team
that you're dealing with and even if
they mess up you have to be that hand
that reaches down and pulls them back up
for a little bit but I'm tread water
again it's not our job to make these
guys communicate with us
we've got to find a way this level to
communicate with them I facebook
I'm 4742 on my facebook the
communication connecting with your
soldiers and just taking the time out to
be there to missing it makes a big
difference you know as a senior leader
where the Junior leader
it's my responsibility to earn your
loyalty is a subordinate and I think
that plays heavily into what's your
relationship with the people you lead
and how do you make the connection
between the people you lead in yourself
if I'm in trouble
I don't get help how can I leave myself
how can I tell them you need to get help
i need to get help myself you're on an
airplane you gotta put the oxygen mask
on yourself first before you put it on
your children so folks really need to
take that to heart and recognize when
there are things going on with them that
are not what they expect
of themselves as a spouse as a soldier
as a parent when i finally got to the
right doctor
they looked at my MRI he walked in and
he said how are you walking I had a
tumor the size of my hand was wrapped
around my finger neck in my favor head
and had compressed the the bone to the
point that over third of it was
destroyed
amazingly enough my stubbornness and the
fact that i was going to survive this
and I wasn't going to end it anymore
someone finally listened I've learned a
lot about myself I've learned a lot
about what to do when I need help
I've learned how to recognize when I do
fall into those situations where i need
to talk to someone and I'm not ashamed
to do it you got it you got to be
through there's always something to do
to keep you active engaged and keep your
mind off the bad things in life
as far as many bad things are just too
many good things just got to find it
it's not easy you're not going to find
it sitting around
yeah get up and go do something
initiative has a lot to do with
resiliency if you're waiting for life to
come to you will be waiting a long time
running exercising extracurricular
activities have always been my break
no matter what was going on around me
always made me feel better
everything from physical fitness to what
we now talks about spiritual resiliency
and behavioral health resiliency and how
do you get there when you write
everything down you too kind of like
you're bringing things up to the surface
take 10 minutes right before you will be
getting no pattern you start jotting
down positive things that you have dealt
with or experience that day you know a
lot of time we're so focus into
negativity you know they call you know
and when you hunt the good stuff
it counteracts negativity bias we
literally begin changing the way we
think because you're searching for the
pocket you find yourself throughout the
day looking for positive things happen
we've got to have adversity that's not
going to change
we just need to be able to deal with
overcome you know change
it's not just the ability to get through
a difficult time it's to learn from it
and to be better the next time you go
through that type of difficult time
that's that's what makes you resilient
somewhere inside of you there is the
ability to bounce back
it's amazing
things I've been through and have fallen
down rock bottom and pull myself up and
it's been rough but air and resilience
isn't just left to the individual
soldier family member to figure out for
themselves if we can create a larger
network of people who are trying to look
out for the resilience of each other
asking asking our employees are soldiers
airmen sailors what do you need when you
need your time do you need to talk to
it's not just about are you going to get
grief therapy once a week
it's bigger than when it comes down into
the mud and grit and wherever we're at
in the world all we have in each other
we need to take care of each other
it's important that we message to our
civilian workforce all the kind that
their sacrifices and their contributions
in the hard work for therapy reports is
just as important to get these guys have
a lot of life ahead of them they need to
heal and I think it as a parent I want
them to heal so that they can go on and
productive life
and it's that fact that we can show them
that there is out there is a half as a
way to get to what you want to get to
and that's what we can you know make our
soldiers better soldiers and just bottom
line we have to design an apartment
that's not built on a noun generation
that's built on a generation that cares
and when we start showing our soldiers
that we care for them because of who
they are
the rest is easy
