How I learned Chinese⎮混血怎样在澳洲学的中文 (eng sub) - Duration: 7:02.
Hi everyone I'm Jasmine (Shu yang yang)
So today I want to share with you all
how I learned Chinese as an eurasian living in Australia.
So today I'm making this video not only because a lot of people
have been asking how I can speak Chinese and so accurately,
also because I know a lot of you guys are learning or want to learn Chinese
So I hope through this video I can help more of you to learn Chinese.
If you've watched my previous videos before,
you will know that from 1 years to 3 years old I lived in China.
So I could already speak Chinese as a child.
But when I was 3 I came back to Australia again with my family
so apart from visiting China every 3-4 years
I didn't really have many opportunities to come into contact with Chinese culture (apart from home).
So today I wanted to share how I continued to learn Chinese myself
and to be able to speak it accurately like this
although my Chinese isn't the most accurate or very fluent,
but I still wanted to share how I reached this level of fluency.
So because I grew up in Australia everyone spoke English
therefore my family wanted me to continue speaking Chinese and not forget it.
So from grade 2 to year 12, for 10 years,
I attended Chinese school.
So every Saturday I'd go to a local school
and study Chinese there.
Every class was 3 hours and in those 3 hours we would
learn about Chinese culture
and in primary school we would learn Chinese stories, watch some Chinese tv and things like that.
Then with age we would move on to writing essays, using idioms and so on.
So yeah from grade 2 to year 12 I attended Chinese school.
Apart from that, from a young age I have LOVED watching Chinese TV and dramas.
I remember as a child I would, with my sister,
go to my grandparents' room every night
and lie in bed together watching (Chinese) TV.
Usually we would watch 'Happy Camp', 'Super Girl'
Actually I wrote them down :)
So apart from the shows I just mentioned, I also watched a lot of historical dramas such as
(listing them)
and other cartoons like Xi Yang Yang.
And recently I have also been watching a lot of Chinese TV such as
'A bright world', 'If you are the one', 'Chinese bridge', 'Let's watch the meteor shower',
'Boss and I', 'Sound of colours', 'Beautiful secret', 'Love 020', etc.
Oh also as a child I watched '家有儿女', '情深深雨蒙蒙'， '还珠格格'。
I've definitely watched a lot more but I can't think of them now :P
but I just love to watch Chinese TV,
and through watching it I have continued to learn Chinese,
especially my listening skills and recently
practicing my pronunciation to become as accurate as it is today
by often imitating how Chinese is spoken.
Also, I often read Chinese books.
The things I am mentioning today i have been doing from a young age until now,
so from a child I have been reading Chinese books
such as this one '365 nights of idiom stories'.
So yeah I would read this among others as well
and this is just an example.
In addition, memorising poems!
So when I was young my grandpa would often tell my sister and I to memorise poems,
At the time I didn't understand why he'd tell us to,
but now I am so thankful because I think it's so interesting.
and I know not many Chinese learners know these poems (so it's extra special :) )
So I think if you're learning Chinese you should memorise some
because it's so interesting and is a really good way to learn more chines culture and history.
So for example, I can memorise '静夜思'
(reciting it :P)
(reciting another one '泳鹅'）
(now reciting '望庐山瀑布'）
So yeah those were some of the poems I memorised
there is more but I can't think of them atm
but I do really like to memorise them :)
As for learning how to write Chinese,
apart from writing diaries and essays from a young age,
I also learned calligraphy.
Recently I've been doing it as well so these are some I've written of Chinese poems
because I just like to write them
So yeah here are my recent ones
My grandpa really likes to write calligraphy
So when I was younger I'd write with him
At the time I used those really big brushes,
but now I can use the smaller ones
although I'm still not very great at it,
but I'd love to improve.
Lastly, I started my first semester of university here this year,
and there I also took Chinese classes.
So also through that I continued to learn Chinese.
So that's all for today, I hope that
through this video I can help a lot of you who are wanting to learn Chinese (with ideas and inspiration).
In summary, I think that if you are a learner or wanting to learn,
I highly recommend you watch Chinese TV.
To me it was the biggest help because
not only can you practice your listening,
you can also imitate how they speak Chinese (on TV)
as I know Chinese pronunciation can be one of the hardest things to learn
even to me it's hard sometimes.
So I recommend you watch Chinese TV.
Also, you can memorise poems, read books and write calligraphy.

I need to just give a little quick shout out to this hotel, it's called Embassy Suites Hotel.
They have been an absolute gem. Like, I was so stressed out the whole time that my (NY) fight was cancelled.
That I had to go here. I was scared that there wasn't enough rooms,
and the Qantas people were just like no help whatsoever.
Both of the receptionists were so so unbelievably lovely
But yeah, Disney was incredible. I can't feel my legs, honestly. I'm so sleep-deprived.
I'm really really really tired but I forced myself to stay at Disneyland until 9:30
because there was a fireworks show, and I love-- I love Disney's firework show.
It's like... nothing /nothing/ has ever beaten a Disney fireworks show for me.
I only had one cup of coffee throughout my whole 48- hour awakeness so... miracles be blessed.
Miracles are real, are true.
Tomorrow morning I have to wake up at 4:30, go back to the airport, fly to New York.
Hopefully that's when I'm gonna update you again.
