Coat Rack from an Old Drawer - Duration: 7:16.
Since the winter started my wife and I have been putting our coats and jackets all over
the house.
While the cat seems to like it, Things have kind of gotten out of control.
We have an empty wall behind our front door which I think Is a good spot to hang coat
rack.
Now, don't tell my wife, but the real reason for building this coat rack is that I just
couldn't wait to try out my new table saw, even though I didn't quite finish building
it yet.
I found this big drawer that someone threw away.
It's really nothing special, it's made out of pine and has this blue colour all over it.
Usually I won't even bother picking something this beat up off the curb, but I was curious
to see if I could use the table saw to get something decent out of it.
I thought it would be a nice exercise.
So I took the best looking board, which was still a pretty bad looking piece of wood.
It was a bit cupped, full of staples, and pretty dirty too.
So I took the staples out, half way with a flat screw driver and the rest of the way
with locking pliers.
I then cut the board down closer to its final dimensions, and ripped both sides off to get
the board to be 13 cm (5" 1/8) wide, which was twice my maximal depth of cut.
In order to straighten the board I needed a flat reference plane, so I used two short
screws to attach it to a sacrificial piece of plywood.
Now I could take care of the cup.
I raised the blade and set up a featherboard to hold the board tight onto the fence during
the cut.
Because this will apply pressure on fence towards its end, I clamped the fence to the
table on the back as well, to make sure it doesn't move.
But I didn't set the feather board properly, since the workpiece got stuck when it hit it.
So I repositioned it, and made the cut again.
This time it worked out ok, so I flipped the board and cut the other side as well.
I had a little bit of burns and marks from the blade, but after some scraping and sanding
I got to a pretty decent result.
And the cup was gone.
At least on the upper side.
Next I trimmed the board to its final dimensions.
I wanted to chamfer the edges of the board, by making a 45 degree cut on the table saw.
In order not to ruin my zero clearance insert, I removed it and put in a new one.
It came out pretty nice, although I did have a little bit of tear out.
I thought it would be nice to add a small inlay around the coat rack.
A few weeks ago I found a lot of hardwood flooring that was thrown away, so I had quite
a lot of hardwood.
I really felt like a kid in a candy store, with all of this variety to choose from.
I wanted to use something that will go nice with the pine, but won't have too much contrast.
I'm really not sure what kind of wood this is.
So, if you have any idea, let me know in the comments.
In order to use the table saw to cut a groove for the inlay, I glued some black electrical
tape to the fence to mark the start and end positions for the cut.
I then tried to finish the grooves with a chisel.
Although it was pretty sharp, I had a really hard time removing the material, especially
in the groove perpendicular to the end grain.
This pine was so soft, so it was very hard to work on without damaging it.
So I decided to change plans, went back to the table saw, and cut the groove all the
way through.
I then cut the hardwood inlay and glued it in place.
When the glue was dry I cut off the excess material on the table saw.
It was a bit awkward, but it worked out ok.
And then it was simply a matter planning it flush.
After about half an hour of careful work, the result was just spectacular.
I ended up with beautiful shavings.
Some were curly, some long and thin, and even some of hardwood wrapped in pine.
Oh, and I also got the inlay nice and flat.
All I had left to do now was to take care of the chamfers.
Next I applied a couple of coats of water based finish, and when it was dry I finally
removed the sacrificial plywood from the back.
Remember that blue color?
In order to drill the holes for the dowels I put a couple of C clamps on my temporary
drill press to act as a depth stop, and used some scrap wood to set the angle.
I drilled two of the holes all the way through using a smaller drill bit, so I could later
drive in screws that will attach the coat rack to the wall.
By attaching a bolt to a piece of wood I made something that I made something that I could
use to hold the dowels in the drill, so I could chamfer their ends.
I could probably just use a chisel instead, but where's the fun in that?
Because some of the dowels were a bit loose in the holes, I used a relatively generous
amount of glue.
I wasn't worried too much about cleaning it up, since I already applied finish on the
board.
I gave the glue a short while to dry, and then removed the excess.
After a couple more coats of water based finish, it was finally done!
This was a really interesting experiment and I learned a lot from it.
I really didn't think I could get something this nice from that old drawer.
The result is far from perfect, but I still really like the way it came out.
So it has some imperfections here and there, but it really doesn't matter all that much,
because the thing about coat hangers...
... is that you never get to actually see them.

We see, starting Friday when Donald Trump is sworn in as the 45th President, if he can run the country as well as he ran for the office, if he can do as well when the opponent is Little Vladimir Putin as he did when it was Little Marco, and Lyin' Ted and Crooked Hillary and all the rest of them.
Or we will begin to find out, and right away, if he is going to be like a fighter punching himself out on things that don't matter and shouldn't matter, when it is time to swing away on issues that profoundly matter to people in this country, jobs and veterans and schools and national defense and even the thing that has always mattered most about America to Americans, and that is honor.
We will find out, right away, if Donald Trump can somehow find the time to run the executive branch of the government when he is not making bull-like runs at "Saturday Night Live" and Rep. John Lewis and Meryl Streep and Chuck Schumer and NBC News and CNN and fake news, which is too often any news he doesn't like; if he himself plans to honor all the amendments of the Constitution except the very First Amendment.
We will find out if his style of governance will be exactly as it was when he was a candidate, which means that no turn with him will ever go unstoned. Or maybe that is exactly the way it is going to be, and that he spoke a lasting truth about himself when I was talking to him one day last summer, as he was getting ready for the first debate.
"If they come at me, I'll come at them ... times ten," he said.

So he did. And kept doing that. And one by one they fell away, as Trump began to write a story with one of the great shocking surprise endings in the history of Presidential politics, whatever help and however much help he got near the finish line from hacks and James Comey, the FBI director who turned into a political hack, and Russia and maybe the Lannisters in "Game of Thrones."
Somehow he had made it from the rough-and-tumble of real estate business in Manhattan, from his what you know he considers to be the home of his own royal family at Trump Tower, all the way to his new digs in Washington, saying anything he wanted and Tweeting anything he wanted and litigating every single slight, real and perceived.
Now we see if he can back up all of his big, huckstering talk now that the games count.
The other day I asked Tom Hanks, who has spoken so eloquently about the country since Trump was elected — and somehow managed not to be called overrated the way Ms. Streep was — if anything that has happened since last Nov. 8 has made him particularly optimistic.
"Optimistic?" Tom Hanks said. " No.
I'm not the fatalist, yet, that many are — as in, let's see the reality his administration brings. No one is clairvoyant, eh?
But few of his appointments instill anything close to optimism, and most of what he says instills a pessimism — which is the opposite of what democracy should create."

We will see, and quickly, with Donald Trump just to whom in his inner circle he is listening, if it is true that a headbanger like Steve Bannon, who became the patron saint of Breitbart, is really now the most powerful figure in the White House the way Dick Cheney, Cersei Lannister of the George W. Bush administration, was for far too long with Bush. More than anything we will find out just how much of the big talk from Trump is just that: Talk, and more talk.
Because starting Friday in this country, we don't have to believe everything President Donald J.
Trump says, just everything he does.
Everything changes now with him the way it changed so dramatically — and with such grace — when Barack Obama succeeded Bush eight years ago. This was still a change election. As high as the approval ratings that carry Obama out of office, enough people in America voted for change, even if Trump doesn't come to the thing with the mandate he keeps telling us he has, a mandate like Putin's in Russia, riding an electoral "landslide," as if he were somehow elected by acclamation.
The outgoing President says that the country is going to be fine, and we will be, because the fact is that we are always better than our leaders in this country, even when those leaders head for the door with the 60% approval rating Barack Obama has; because no matter what, the center always manages to hold in America, the country's great beating heart continues to beat, through Vietnam and Watergate and Lewinsky and a shameful and tragic war in Iraq.
If Trump fails, we fail. Tom Hanks, a decent and principled American, is right. So much of what Trump has said over the past two months instills pessimism.
But the games didn't count then. Now they do. Now we see.

Probe into Eric Garner's death won't end before Trump presidency begins, lawyer predicts - Duration: 2:25.
President-elect Trump will be in the Oval Office before a federal grand jury ends its probe into the chokehold death of Eric Garner, a lawyer for Police Officer Daniel Pantaleo predicted Thursday.
Attorney Stuart London said neither he nor his client have been contacted by the Department of Justice about the 2014 death of the father of six in Staten Island — dashing theories that an indictment could be announced before Trump's inauguration on Friday.
"The indication we're getting is that nothing will happen this week," London said about Pantaleo's case. "The Department of Justice hasn't contacted me or my client."
A lawyer for Officer Daniel Pantaleo, seen in July 2015, says Trump will be in office before a federal grand jury ends its probe into the chokehold death of Eric Garner.

On Wednesday, federal prosecutors from Washington D. C. grilled cops who worked with Pantaleo on the day Garner died at Brooklyn federal court, sources familiar with the case said.
Cops confronted the 43-year-old Garner on July 17, 2014 for selling loose cigarettes outside a Tompkinsville beauty supply store.

Garner argued with the cops when — as shown in a video first obtained by the Daily News — Pantaleo grabbed him from behind and put him in a choke hold.
"I can't breathe," Garner repeatedly uttered as he was brought down to the sidewalk, where he died.
An autopsy revealed Garner died from compressions of the neck. His death was ruled a homicide.
The feds took over the case after a Staten Island grand jury declined to indict Pantaleo.
"The indication we're getting is that nothing will happen this week," says Pantaleo's lawyer Stuart London.

In an unusual move, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch took the case away from federal prosecutors in Brooklyn late last year, saying they couldn't proceed with a civil rights prosecution.
The federal grand jury was first convened about a year ago. A number of witnesses have testified since then — although the testimony has stalled.

A federal grand jury can sit for up to 18 months before it is dissolved, officials said.
When Trump won the presidential election in November, many pleaded with Lynch to get an indictment against Pantaleo before the start of his administration.
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Trump's choice to succeed Lynch, is viewed as more cop-friendly than her. Many predict he will decline to press charges against Pantaleo.

New Yorkers are evenly divided on whether Mayor de Blasio should fight back against the incoming Trump administration or try to make nice, according to a new poll.
But city voters by a large margin say Gov. Cuomo would be more effective at sticking up for New York's interests under Trump than Hizzoner, the Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday found.
Some 46% of New York City voters said de Blasio should try to get along with President-elect Donald Trump, while another 45% said he should be a national leader against Trump's policies.
"There's little doubt there will be animosity between de Blasio and Trump. They're not best friends. But for now, at least half of New Yorkers say let's try to go along to get along," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

De Blasio has taken the more adversarial route so far. While he met with Trump and says he will be willing to work together where they agree, he is set to appear at a rally in resistance to his policies Thursday night — the eve of the inauguration.
In the poll, 67% said Cuomo would be more effective than de Blasio at making sure New York City's interests are well represented with Republicans in charge of the White House and Congress. Only 21% said de Blasio would be better at it.
Malloy said Cuomo may have benefited from early chatter that he could run for President against Trump in 2020.

"It is safe to say that Cuomo's national status and potential as a candidate for office beyond where he is now has put him in the news lately, and may have elevated the opinion of voters as someone who could handle issues on a national and global scale," he said.
In other poll findings, New Yorkers said they approve by a 54% to 38% of how de Blasio is handling crime.
They also approve 50% to 17% of Police Commissioner James O'Neill's job performance, and approve 67% to 25% of how city police in general do their jobs.
New Yorkers believe Gov. Cuomo would more effectively take up the city's mantle against the Trump administration.

Nonetheless, 86% of respondents say crime is a very or somewhat serious problem, while 71% say the same of police brutality and 61% of police corruption.
Patrolmen's Benevolent Association president Pat Lynch seized on the results to push his argument that cops should get raises bigger than the city has offered.
"If New Yorkers feel that the city is handling crime well, the credit should go to the New York City police officers who work hard every day despite the lack of support they receive from Mayor de Blasio," he said.
"The fact that 67% of New Yorkers approve of the way police are doing their jobs is evidence that there is great confidence in the women and men protecting our streets. If the Mayor wants any share of the credit for that success, he first needs to start treating us and paying us like professionals."

Woman hiding $70G worth of cocaine in box of Jamaican Beef Patties busted at JFK - Duration: 1:18.
This box of beef patties was a different kind of flaky.
A Jamaican woman was busted after Customs agents found four pounds of cocaine hidden in a box of the golden-crusted meat-filled treats at Kennedy Airport, officials said Thursday.
Federal Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials said agents got suspicious when they found the box of Tastee Brand Jamaican Beef Patties in Chantal Alecia Bedward's luggage when she arrived at JFK Airport from Kingston Tuesday, officials said.
When they took her into a private search room and opened the box, 12 duct taped packages of cocaine spilled out.
Agents arrested Bedward for drug smuggling and turned the case over to the Department of Homeland Security investigations unit.
Where's the beef? Certainly not in Chantal Alecia Bedward's luggage, which turned out to be full of duct taped packages of cocaine.

"This seizure demonstrates the vigilance and dedication demonstrated daily by CBP officers at JFK, in keeping these prohibited and dangerous narcotics off the streets of our communities," said Robert E. Perez, Director of Field Operations in New York for CBP.
Officials estimated the street value of the drugs at $70,000.
Bedward will be prosecuted in Brooklyn Federal Court.

A data structure is a particular way of organizing data in a computer's memory.
Nonetheless, do we really need data structures in the Frontend development?
The answer is yes.
I'll show you why.

Let's talk today about a data structure, namely Linked List and its realization in JavaScript.
I'm Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts of the Frontend development.
Let's start from the definition.
What is a Linked List.
A linked list is a linear collection of data elements, called nodes.
Nodes contain two fields: a value and a link to the next node.
The principal benefit of a linked list is that the list elements can easily be inserted
or removed without reallocation or reorganization of the entire structure.
In other words, items can be added or removed from the middle of list.
What are they meant to do in Front-End?
The linked lists are used to keep a set of comments to the post
They serve to organize a navigation menu in one-page application
The linked lists also are helping to keep the image order in the Slide show.

To any Linked List the following operations are applicable:
add or insertAfter: a data item is placed to the defined position
remove or removeAfter: a data item is removed from the defined position
get or contains: returns a node's value if a desired node is exists in the lists
It is possible to have a doubly linked list, for which each node besides a link to the
next element, contains a link to previous node.
There is also available: a Multiply linked list, each node contains two or more link
fields, and a Circular Linked list, where the last node is linked to the first node.
Addition is O(n).
Because you have to iterate over the entire list to find the target node
Removal is O(n) Because you have to iterate over the entire list to find the value
Search is O(n).
Again, you have to iterate over the entire list to check if the value exists in your
list.

City councilman urges NYPD to create dedicated Trump Tower security squad to end confusion in are... - Duration: 1:27.
City Councilman Dan Garodnick is pushing the NYPD to set up a special unit to provide security around Trump Tower.
Garodnick (D-Manhattan), who represents the area of the Fifth Ave. tower, wrote to the department proposing a dedicated unit which he said would cut down on the confusion and constantly changing rules that have frustrated business owners and pedestrians in the area.
The Trump Tower Unit would be similar to the dedicated Times Square Unit the department has launched for that area.
"Local businesses report that they are unable to count on the minimum level of predictability and consistency that they need to effectively run their operations," Garodnick wrote. "The problem is exacerbated by the constant personnel changes among the police officers assigned to the area, frequently with differing understanding of the security protocol."
Councilman Dan Garodnick says having a unit specifically tasked with guarding the building would bring consistency and alleviate frustration in the surrounding area.

Currently, cops are being pulled from precincts all over the city to patrol the area around President-elect Donald Trump's home and headquarters. It's costing the city an estimated $37.4 million to provide security there through Friday's inauguration.
Complaints have included changes from day to day in what areas are closed off, who is allowed to pass through secured areas, and what supplies they are allowed to bring in.
The NYPD did not respond to a request for comment.

Akirah Taylor and Breeyana Birkett, students at Cobble Hill School for American Studies, say they were approached by two NYPD officers on Jan. 11. The cops stopped them and tried to arrest them for cutting school, the girls said.
"They came running at us, grabbing us," said Taylor, a senior and aspiring dance instructor. "They were rude, aggressive. They threw me to the ground, grabbed my hoodie and she put her knee in my back, cursing me out, saying things officers shouldn't say."
The girls said they had gone to store their cell phones at a nearby bodega, since the devices aren't allowed on the school's campus in Boreum Hill campus. That's when the cops started questioning them.
"They saw us check out phones, they knew we were going to school ... I feel disrespected," said Birkett, a junior.
The officers "repeatedly asked the girls to stop walking so that (they) could conduct a truancy investigation and both refused to do so," according to the criminal complaint charging the teens with obstruction of governmental administration.
"I kept saying 'you're hurting me, you're hurting me,' " Taylor said at a press conference on Thursday. "When I got to the precinct, my wrist was swollen. I couldn't move it."
Akirah's mother, Tyishah Graham, and the girls' attorney, Abe George, joined them for press conference.

Taylor suffered a broken arm and is suing for $2 million while Birkett is seeking $1 million in damages, according to the notice of claim filed by their attorney Abe George on Wednesday.
"No child should be afraid to walk to school, let alone from the Police Department. This case cries out for better relations between the NYPD and the community," George said.
The teens say they were detained for 14 hours.
George is calling on prosectors to drop the charges.
"I'm scared of any police officers," Taylor said, noting that she was only going to school. "It's not like we were hanging out."
The NYPD declined comment, referring questions to the city Law Department. The Law Department referred inquiries to the city controller's office, which didn't respond.

The answer is yes.
I'll show you why.

Let's talk today about a data structure, namely Linked List and its realization in JavaScript.
I'm Anatol and you are watching the Good Parts of the Frontend development.
Let's start from the definition.
What is a Linked List.
A linked list is a linear collection of data elements, called nodes.
Nodes contain two fields: a value and a link to the next node.
The principal benefit of a linked list is that the list elements can easily be inserted
or removed without reallocation or reorganization of the entire structure.
In other words, items can be added or removed from the middle of list.
What are they meant to do in Front-End?
The linked lists are used to keep a set of comments to the post
They serve to organize a navigation menu in one-page application
The linked lists also are helping to keep the image order in the Slide show.

To any Linked List the following operations are applicable:
add or insertAfter: a data item is placed to the defined position
remove or removeAfter: a data item is removed from the defined position
get or contains: returns a node's value if a desired node is exists in the lists
It is possible to have a doubly linked list, for which each node besides a link to the
next element, contains a link to previous node.
There is also available: a Multiply linked list, each node contains two or more link
fields, and a Circular Linked list, where the last node is linked to the first node.
Addition is O(n).
Because you have to iterate over the entire list to find the target node
Removal is O(n) Because you have to iterate over the entire list to find the value
Search is O(n).
Again, you have to iterate over the entire list to check if the value exists in your
list.
Let's dive in the code.

in the slider then add image and define its position
check length and first element then remove it
now check new first element and length run test

its constructor uses head pointer and length add method
structure for nodes add node and new links

check its position and modify links decrease length

run test again test ends well

Queens mother pleads guilty to fatally shaking, beating 2-year-old daughter - Duration: 1:46.
A Queens mother accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter by violently shaking and beating the toddler pleaded guilty to the crime.
Ashley Diaz, 31, of Rockaway, entered guilty pleas for first-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter on Thursday morning, the Queens District Attorney announced.
During the court hearing, Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter indicated he would sentence Diaz to 17 years in prison to be followed by five years' post release supervision.
Prosecutors said her daughter, Kevasia Edwards, suffered several violent blows to her head and body.
Diaz told cops that Kevasia suffered a seizure on Feb. 3, 2014 inside her Rockaways home on Beach 56th Place at about 9:30 p.m., officials said.
Ashley Diaz entered guilty pleas for first-degree assault and second-degree manslaughter on Thursday morning.

After waiting at least a half hour, Diaz called her babysitter, who then reached out to a family who called 911, according to authorities.
Little Kevasia died at St. John's Episcopal Hospital just after midnight.
Diaz had received at least four visits from city Administration for Children's Services and counts no less than five arrests on her rap sheet, records show.
She tried to get herself out of trouble by claiming her child's injuries stemmed from a fall she took after the seizure.
Prosecutors said Kevasia Edwards suffered several violent blows to her head and body.

But an autopsy found injuries that indicated abuse, officials said.
The girl had two broken ribs, a bruised liver, scars and bruises all over her body, and trauma to her head, officials said. She also had scarring on her right foot which indicated there was a prior burn, according to doctors.
"The actions of the defendant are totally incomprehensible," Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said in a statement after her arrest in 2014.
