First I will engrave the top side, then turn the blanks over and mill out the name plates
I have to drill holes in the base to screw the blanks

I can place seven blanks on the base
Eight name plates on each blank
So 56 pieces to engrave at once
I will use a small engraving bit - 25 degree, 0.2 mm tip
I made a test engraving and found that my new zero button was set incorrectly
One more problem - the plywood sheet is of uneven thickness
So the depth of engraving is also uneven
This is important because the set depth of engraving is only 0.5 mm
I have to make the this plywood sheet fully flat
The difference is very big: 1.46 on the right and 5.19 on the left. About 3.5 mm
This is an ordinary construction plywood

I have to sand the edges and oil the name plates
I have about 1300 pieces

The result depends on wood and the time
I found that nine hours is the excessive time
The corners of walnut blanks were sanded again
So I will oil the blanks the third time
The blanks are almost dry after four hours
I decided to stop the process
I will extract the blanks manually while the machine is running
I faced one more problem
Some blanks are covered with the oil droplets
I don't know the reason
Maybe another type of newly bought oil
Also this depends on wood
No one drop on wenge
Very few on walnut and ash
Average on movingui and padauk
And almost all cherry blanks were spoiled
I will experiment further
I will put the blanks back into the machine and add white spirit
No risk with the spoiled blanks
It is surprising, but the result is very good
All name plates are clean
So I can say the defect is zero percent
These small magnets are 10x0.7 mm only
But the strength of each magnet is 450 gr

My name is Ichihara Etsuko, I am a media artist,
and self-proclaimed "fantasy director".
I direct works that combine technology and Japanese tradition.
Right after quitting my previous job,
I received an offer from the Kawashima shopping street,
requesting I work on the artistic direction of their annual "Tokyo Andon Sai" festival.
I got the chance to showcase various strange inventions.
I also presented my work, "Sexual Harassement Interface",
which is a very nonsensical work, consisting of 4 white radishes,
that moan of pleasure when people touch them.
I took inspiration from the theremin, which I found to sound close to a woman's moaning sound.
I wanted something that would actually moan, so I decided to make one myself.
Originally, I made it so it looked like a naked leg,
but when I wanted to showcase it, organizers told me it wouldn't be possible to show.
Looking for an alternative, I thought of the white radish, it was perfect!
It looked a bit like a leg and we could link it to Japanese agriculture.
First I showed this to people in the tech and IT fields, rather than people from art backgrounds,
they enjoyed it a lot.
As it is a local festival, there are many children and old people.
I was a bit worried of their reactions, but I saw a group of old ladies saying:
"Look, those radishes are talking when you touch them!", I was happy to hear that.
The Akasaka Hikawa shrine is located close to my previous workplace.

We thought together about a project that could mix traditional festivals with tourism.
In "Namahage in Tokyo", which focuses on the "Namahage" creatures from Akita prefecture,
my task was to "translate" the Namahage's "functions".
In the traditional Akita folklore,
the "Namahage" come to punish the lazy people of the village.
In "Namahage in Tokyo", I decided to recreate this through social media.
People's bad actions are recorded by surveillance cameras,
when they reach a certain number of infractions, a "Namahage" comes to punish them on New Year's Eve
The video was featured worldwide and gathered many reactions from Southeast Asia.
In Thailand or in Indonesia,
young people seem to like combining traditional beliefs with new technologies.
I suppose that this project was close to that approach.
As I was always attracted by new technologies, one day I went to the ICC art center,
where I discovered interactive works.
I really liked it so I wanted to try it out.

I visited various sex museums,

Good that you're watching Student Report,
the channel that brings difficult UT business, the easy way.
This month, we look back on the Batavierenrace.
What kind of things needed to be organized,
and why is it such a special event?
Student Report finds out.
The Batavierenrace is a relay running race from Nijmegen to Enschede.
Every year, approximately 8500 students join in the race.
Together with the 700 volunteers,
this makes it the biggest relay running race in the world,
in the Guinnes book of World Records.
The Batavierenrace starts at Friday night in Nijmegen,
and ends on Saturday afternoon in Enschede.
The route of the Batavierenrace has a total length of 175 km,
and is split into 25 stages.
The length of one stage differs between 3 to 10 km.
For each stage, it is indicated whether it should be run by a man or a woman.
The runner has to run from switch point to switch point,
and is accompanied by a team mate on a bicycle.
At the switch point between the stages,
the next runner is ready to take over the runners vest,
which contains a chip for time registration.
The race is divided into three shifts, because a couple of restarts are necessary,
due to the speed differences between the teams.
Now, the runners stay close together.
The night shift runs from Nijmegen to Ulft,
the morning shift from Ulft to Barchem,
and the afternoon shift runs from Barchem to the Oude markt in Enschede.
From there, the last runners run to the UTrack, at the campus of the University of Twente.
There, the race ends with a big party.
Where are you from?
I am from Amsterdam.

For me, the most important thing is that I can do a salto at the finish line.
Because yeah, you need some way to show people that you are from a gymnastics association.
Could you perhaps tell us how the Batavierenrace is organized?
We have a script from earlier years,
this is the 45th year,
so luckily we can use a lot of tips and tricks of earlier years,
to learn which people we should contact.
But it still remains quite a challenge,
because it is still the first time that you come into contact with all the new people.
What is the weirdest question that you have ever received here?
Sometimes we get called by people who are in the middle of the race,
who parked their van in some random street in Germany, and then they ask us where they have to go.
We are of course in Enschede, so we cannot help them.
The Batavierenrace is a big event, so every time you discover something new.
Even after the third time there are things that you don't know.
Why does the UT engage in activities outside of education?
We really value student activism, meaning students develop themselves.
And this is a very nice example of that.
We also value entrepreneurship and collaboration.
Why are you leaving with such a large bus, and not with a smaller one, like many others?
The small busses are used during the stages, to transfer the teams from switch point to switch point,
and the large busses are used to transfer everyone from the camping to the restarts.
Did you sleep alright last night?
I haven't slept yet, I ran the race last night.
Okay, and how did that go?
Quite alright, I did not expect to run so fast.
Do you have any goal that you would like to reach?
Yes, finish the stage that I have to run.
Are you going to carry this speaker the entire race?
Yes, and this bad boy is also coming with us.
We are going to run quite some kilometres with some load, but that's part of the game right?
In this room are the competition secretariat, the internet committee and the IBART committee, that do the time observation.
Here all the race times are processed to become actual results.
We also receive protests from teams.
The most fun part is to enter the city, because first you are in the middle of nowhere for a while,
and suddenly there are a lot people to cheer for you.
Is this the first Batavierenrace that you run?
Yes, yes it is. But it certainly won't be the last.
Did you just run the race?

The suit is from Aloha, the triatlon association from the UT. We run the final stage in our mascotte suit.

The members of our association, they think that that's fun.

I did one salto in front of the audience, and one at the finish line.
Yeah, that was fun.
I still had a bit of energy left to do it.

during this week I will be answering
every day one of your questions
that will try to challenge me
with finding the good sides
of very difficult and hard situations in life
I'd like to make clear
I do NOT underestimate the huge difficulty
of thess hard situations in life
these situations are definitely
NOT situations to wish for
what I am saying
that even in these difficult situations
you can choose not to concentrate
on the pain and the difficulty
but to try to distract yourself from these
by finding some good sides
and by trying
to make the best out of it
so the question for today

what could be good about
finding yourself homeless?

so here are some positive sides
that I can think of
about being homeless
you don't need to hurry anywhere
sometimes it's nice to have some time off
from the pressure and the expectations
of the world
you don't have a house
so you don't need to worry
about property and utility bills
or about doing housework
you have a lot of free time
so you can use this time
to do things such as
going to the city library
read for your enjoyment
maybe even learning some new things
from the books
you can go maybe doing some sports
in the park
or if there is a beach close by
you can go to the beach and swim in the sea
and just relax
and I guess this hard situation
teaches you a lot
about people and about life it
it puts everything in the right perspective
and gives proportions
develops your creativity
because you need to survive somehow
and when you will get out of this situation
you will be a much stronger resilient person
