The National for July 19, 2018 — Premiers Meeting, Trump, Tick Seasonal - Duration: 47:25.

>> Ian: ON THIS THURSDAY NIGHT,

TAXES, TARIFFS AND TRADE ACROSS

CANADA AND ACROSS THE BORDER.

AS NORTH AMERICA'S AUTO SECTOR

ATTACKS WASHINGTON'S LATEST

TARIFF SCARE, CANADA'S PREMIERS

USE A SUMMER GET TOGETHER TO PUT

OTTAWA'S CARBON PLAN TO TEST.

>>> ALSO TONIGHT, THE U.S.

PRESIDENT'S LATEST INVITATION,

INTERESTING TIMING, INTERESTING

GUESTS.

AFTER DAYS OF TRYING TO TALK

TOUGH ON RUSSIA, DONALD TRUMP

OPENS THE WHITE HOUSE DOOR TO

VLADIMIR PUTIN.

THE LATEST HEAD-SPINNER IN A

DIZZYING WEEK.

THIS IS "THE NATIONAL".

>> Ian: THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

INSISTS IT WILL GET IT, BUT

ONTARIO IS DIGGING IN ON ITS

OPPOSITION TO THE CARBON TAX,

NOW JOINING FORCING WITH

SASKATCHEWAN TO FIGHT IT IN

COURT.

IT'S DOMINATING TALK OF THE

PREMIERS' SUMMIT UNDER WAY IN

NEW BRUNSWICK.

>> Reporter: SASKATCHEWAN HAS A

NEW PARTNER IN ITS LONELY STAND

AGAINST THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

CARBON TAX.

>> I'M PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT

ONTARIO WILL JOIN FORCES WITH

SASKATCHEWAN AND USE EVERY TOOL

AT OUR DISPOSAL TO CHALLENGE THE

FEDERAL CARBON TAX.

>> Reporter: SASKATCHEWAN

PREMIER SCOTT MOE SAYS THE WHOLE

CLIMATE FRAMEWORK AGREED TO BY

EVERY PROVINCE EXCEPT

SASKATCHEWAN IS STARTING TO

CRUMBLE.

>> THIS PLAN FINDS OUR NATION IN

THIS POSITION.

WE HAVE TWO PROVINCES IN

COMPLIANCE.

WE HAVE TWO PROVINCES IN COURT.

AND WE EVER THE REST OF THE

COUNTRY -- WE HAVE THE REST OF

THE COUNTRY NOT MEETING THE

FEDERAL CARBON TAX BACKSTOP.

>> Reporter: THE SITUATION IS

ACTUALLY A BIT MORE COMPLICATED

THAN THAT.

THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE

PROVINCES THAT LOOK SET TO

COMPLY.

TWO THAT INTEND TO DEFY AND

SEVERAL THAT WANT TO FUDGE IT.

IT'S THE LAST GROUP THAT COULD

PROVE MOST DIFFICULT FOR THE

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

THE COURTS WILL DECIDE ON

ONTARIO AND SASKATCHEWAN AND

MOST LEGAL EXPERTS SAY OTTAWA IS

PROBABLY ON SAFE GROUND.

>> THIS CASE IS A LONG SHOT.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE

JUDGES ARE HUMAN BEINGS, BUT

BASED ON THE PRECEDENT OF THE

LAST FEW DECADES, THE CHANCES OF

THIS WINNING ARE SLIM.

>> THE PROVINCE'S CASE WILL NOT

STAND UP.

THAT IS THE ADVICE THAT WE HAVE

BEEN HEARING.

>> Reporter: SO PREMIER GALLANT

SAYS NEW BRUNSWICK WILL COMPLY,

BUT FEDERAL ENVIRONMENT MINISTER

CATHERINE McKENNA SAYS SHE

THINKS NEW BRUNSWICK'S PLAN

COMES UP SHORT BECAUSE IT PUTS A

PRICE ON CARBON FOR ONLY BIG

EMITTERS, NOT ORDINARY

CONSUMERS.

>> WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO THE

MINISTER, I THINK SHE HAS OTHER

PROVINCES SHE HAS A LOT MORE

TROUBLE CONVINCING TO PUT A PLAN

IN PLACE, SO I WOULD SUGGEST TO

HER SHE FOCUS ON THEM.

>> Reporter: THEN THERE IS

P.E.I.

>> WE HAVE A PRINCE EDWARD

ISLAND APPROACH WHICH IS TO

LOWER THE PRICE OF RENEWABLES

AND THAT'S INTERESTING IN TERMS

OF MOTIVATING PEOPLE TO LIVE UP

TO OUR CLIMATE CHANGE

COMMITMENTS.

>> Reporter: BUT, AGAIN, NO

PRICE ON CARBON.

AND THAT FALLS SHORT OF THE

FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT.

SO WHILE ONLY TWO PROVINCES ARE

OPENLY DEFYING OTTAWA IN COURT,

THERE MAY BE OTHERS WHERE OTTAWA

ENDS UP IMPOSING A CARBON TAX.

AND POLITICALLY SOME PREMIERS

MAY PREFER HAVING OTTAWA DO IT

RATHER THAN DOING IT THEMSELVES.

>> Ian: BRITISH COLUMBIA HAS HAD

A CARBON TAX FOR A DECADE AND

THE PROVINCE CALLS IT A SUCCESS.

EMISSIONS ARE DOWN, THE ECONOMY

IS GROWING.

RENEE FILIPPONE TAKES A LOOK AT

THE EFFECT THE TAXES HAD ON

CONSUMERS.

>> Reporter: PETER MILLER BOUGHT

HIS FIRST ELECTRIC CAR FIVE

YEARS AGO.

>> WE'RE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT

THE ENVIRONMENT.

>> Reporter: HE SAYS PEOPLE NOW

ARE TURNING AWAY FROM GAS TO

SAVE MONEY.

>> THE PRICE OF GAS, I SAID NO

IDEA.

CLOSE TO $1.50 A LITRE, IS IT?

>> Reporter: THAT'S THE GOAL OF

THE CARBON TAX.

MAKE THINGS LIKE DRIVING MORE

EXPENSIVE AND PEOPLE WILL CHANGE

THEIR HABITS.

>> THE CARBON EMISSIONS LEVY WE

PUT IN PLACE --

>> Reporter: A DECADE AGO GORDON

CAMPBELL B.C. LIBERAL PARTY

INTRODUCED THE TAX.

CONTROVERSIAL AT THE TIME, IT

WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN

NORTH AMERICA.

>> IT HAS BEEN CLEARLY A

SUCCESS.

>> Reporter: THIS PROFESSOR OF

ECONOMICS BELIEVES THE CARBON

TAX IS AN EFFICIENT WAY TO DEAL

WITH EMISSIONS, BUT ADMITS IT

TAKES TIME TO SEE RESULTS.

>> CONSUMPTION IS DOWN, AND WE

HAVE POPULATION GROWTH, SO IN

THE END, WE'RE NOT SAVING AS

MUCH AS WE WOULD LIKE.

>> Reporter: BETWEEN 2007 BEFORE

THE TAX WAS IMPLEMENTED AND

2015, G.D.P. IN B.C. GREW 17%.

THE PROVINCE SAYS NET EMISSIONS

DROPPED 4.7%.

A DECLINE, BUT FAR FROM THE

ORIGINAL 2007 TARGET.

THE GOAL WAS TO REDUCE EMISSIONS

33% BY 2020.

THE CURRENT N.D.P. GOVERNMENT

ADJUSTED ITS TARGETS THIS SPRING

TO GIVE ITSELF TEN MORE YEARS,

AND INCREASE THE TAX FROM 30 TO

$35 PER TON.

>> ULTIMATELY CARBON PRICING HAS

NOT HAD THE NEGATIVE IMPACT

PREDICTED.

QUITE THE CONTRARY.

>> EVERYTHING FROM THE APPLE YOU

BUY AND EAT TO THE COMPUTER YOU

BUY AND USE, COMES WITH INFLUX

OF ENERGY.

>> Reporter: CRITICS ARGUE FOR

THE TAX TO WORK IT NEEDS TO BE

MUCH HIGHER BUT THAT WOULD DRIVE

AWAY INVESTMENT.

>> VERY HIGH TAX WHICH PEOPLE

WILL NOT TOLERATE, AND WHICH

WILL BE ECONOMICALLY RUINOUS.

SO UNSUSTAINABLE.

>> Reporter: BUT FOR MILLER, A

SELF-DESCRIBED DISRUPTER, HE

SAYS CHANGE IN THE ENVIRONMENT

WILL COME AT A COST.

>> THAT'S THE WHOLE IDEA.

>> Ian: THERE WAS A WELCOME

SURPRISE FOR BEER DRINKERS FROM

NEW BRUNSWICK'S PREMIER.

BRIAN GALLANT SAID IT'S TIME TO

OVERHAUL CROSS PROVINCIAL

BARRIERS ON PURCHASES.

>> I'M DEFINITELY WILLING TO

CHANGE NEW BRUNSWICK'S IMPORT

LEVEL.

>> Reporter: GALLANT SAYS HE'S

WORKING TO BUILD CONSENSUS WITH

HIS COUNTERPARTS.

YOU REMEMBER THAT THE SUPREME

COURT RULED IN THE FREE THE BEER

CASE, ALLOWING THE PROVINCE TO

FINE CONSUMERS FOR EXCEEDING

LIMITS ON ALCOHOL BROUGHT IN

FROM OTHER PROVINCES.

TRADE WITHIN CANADA WAS UP FOR

DISCUSSION IN NEW BRUNSWICK.

THE CROSS BORDER VARIETY WAS ON

THE TABLE IN WASHINGTON.

>> Andrew: IT WAS CRITICAL

HEARING GOING ON WITH HUGE

POTENTIAL EFFECTS ACROSS THIS

COUNTRY.

THE FOCUS, WHETHER AUTO IMPORTS

REPRESENT A THREAT TO AMERICAN

NATIONAL SECURITY AND WHETHER

TARIFFS ARE THE ANSWER.

BUT AS JACQUELINE HANSEN SHOWS

US, OPPOSITION TO THE IDEA WAS

STRONG, EVEN FROM AMERICA'S OWN

AUTO INDUSTRY.

>> Reporter: AMERICAN-MADE

VEHICLES ARRIVED IN THE CAPITAL

THIS MORNING DRIVEN BY THE AUTO

WORKERS WHO BUILT THEM.

>> TARIFFS ON AUTOS AND AUTO

PARTS WILL RAISE COSTSES FOR OUR

CUSTOMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

>> Reporter: IT'S PART OF A RARE

COORDINATED ATTEMPT BY

INTERNATIONAL AND U.S. INDUSTRY

PLAYERS TO GET CONGRESS TO SEE

WHAT IS AT STAKE.

IF U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP

FOLLOWS THROUGH ON HIS THREAT.

>> THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE

COMPANY THAT I KNOW OF THAT HAS

REQUESTED PROTECTION IN THE FORM

OF TARIFFS.

I'M MYSTIFIED BY THE ARGUMENT

THAT IMPORTED CARS AND IMPORTED

CAR PARTS ARE A THREAT TO THE

NATIONAL SECURITY.

>> Reporter: THE REAL THREAT

MANY SAY IS TO AMERICAN JOBS.

A NEW REPORT SAYS IF A 25%

TARIFF IS IMPOSED ON AUTO

IMPORTS, SALES WOULD DROP BY 2

MILLION AND MORE THAN 700,000

JOBS WOULD BE WIPED OUT.

IT ESTIMATES CONSUMERS WOULD

FACE HIGHER PRICES.

AT TODAY'S HEARING, A

REPRESENTATIVE FOR CANADA SAID

COUNTER-TARIFFS WOULD LIKELY BE

TRIGGERED.

>> THEY'LL RETALIATE AND THAT

MULTIPLY THE COSTS, THE LOSSES.

>> Reporter: CANADIAN PARTS

MANUFACTURER MARTINREA HAS

FACILITIES AROUND THE WORLD, BUT

MOVING PRODUCTION TO AVOID

TARIFFS WOULD BE TOO EXPENSIVE.

>> THAT'S A RIDICULOUS

PROPOSITION.

THE COST TO DO SOMETHING LIKE

THAT WOULD BE ENORMOUS.

>> Reporter: SOME EXPECT THE

ANTI-TARIFF FIGHT TO GO WELL

BEYOND THE HEARING.

>> IF ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING

THREATENED YOUR BUSINESS AS A

GOING CONCERN, YOU'D TAKE LEGAL

ACTION.

MY EXPECTATION IS THAT IS WHAT

WILL HAPPEN.

>> Reporter: THERE IS HOPE THE

TARIFFS ARE JUST NEGOTIATING

TACTICS AND THAT STRONG

OPPOSITION WILL EVENTUALLY

CHANGE TRUMP'S MIND SO THAT JOBS

THAT COMPANIES LIKE THIS ONE,

STAY SAFE.

>> Andrew: THERE IS CONSENSUS ON

BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER THAT

THE TARIFFS COULD HURT THE

ECONOMY.

HERE'S WHY THE STAKES ARE HIGH

FOR CANADIANS.

MORE THAN 2 MILLION VEHICLES ARE

PRODUCED IN THIS COUNTRY EACH

YEAR.

THAT MAKES CANADA'S AUTOMOTIVE

INDUSTRY THE 8TH LARGEST IN THE

WORLD.

THE AUTO SECTOR ALSO EMPLOYS

MORE THAN HALF A MILLION PEOPLE

HERE AND 160,000 OF THOSE JOBS

COULD DISAPPEAR IF TARIFFS CAME

INTO EFFECT.

>> Ian: LET'S TURN TO PARLIAMENT

HILL WHERE AN N.D.P. M.P. HAS

BEEN CLEARED OF ALLEGATIONS OF

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT.

AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR SAYS

CHRISTINE MOORE DID NOTHING

INAPPROPRIATE IN A RELATIONSHIP

WITH THE FORMER SOLDIER.

TOM PARRY HAS REACTION TO THE

REPORT.

>> Reporter: IT WAS N.D.P.

LEADER JAGMEET SINGH WHO ORDERED

THE INVESTIGATION INTO CHRISTINE

MOORE.

TODAY HE ANNOUNCED THE RESULTS.

>> THE INVESTIGATION HAS

CONCLUDED THAT THE ALLEGATIONS

AGAINST MADAME MOORE WERE NOT

SUPPORTED BY THE EVIDENCE.

>> Reporter: A FORMER SOLDIER

AND AFGHAN WAR VETERAN GLEN

KIRKLAND ACCUSED MOORE OF LURING

HIM INTO A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP

AND HARASSING HIM AFTER HE

APPEARED BEFORE A PARLIAMENTARY

COMMITTEE IN 2013.

MOORE SAYS THEY WERE LOVERS AND

IT WAS HIM WHO APPROACHED HER.

TODAY, SHE EXPRESSED RELIEF AT

THE INVESTIGATION FINDINGS.

>> I NEVER HAVE A DOUBT ABOUT

MYSELF BECAUSE I KNEW THE TRUTH

SINCE THE BEGINNING, SO THAT'S

WHY I'M NOT SURPRISED ABOUT THE

CONCLUSION OF THE INVESTIGATION.

>> Reporter: JAGMEET SINGH CALLS

THE INVESTIGATION THOROUGH.

HE SAYS IT HEARD FROM SEVERAL

WITNESSES, BUT ONE WITNESS IT

DIDN'T HEAR FROM IS GLEN

KIRKLAND.

>> I'VE NEVER GOTTEN AN

OPPORTUNITY TO TELL MY SIDE TO

INVESTIGATOR.

>> Reporter: THE N.D.P. SAYS

KIRKLAND WAS OFFERED A CHANCE TO

SPEAK, BUT TURNED IT DOWN.

KIRKLAND SAYS HIS LAWYER AT

FIRST TOLD HIM NOT TO TALK ABOUT

MOORE, BUT THAT HE LATER TRIED

TO CONTACT THE INVESTIGATOR

ANYWAY.

>> THEY'RE SAYING THAT I DIDN'T

PARTICIPATE, THEY'RE LYING.

BECAUSE WHY WOULD I GIVE A TV

INTERVIEW AND NOT GIVE AN

INTERVIEW TO AN INTERNAL

INVESTIGATOR.

>> Reporter: KIRKLAND SAYS NO

ONE IS DENYING HE AND MOORE HAD

SEX, BUT WITH HER AN M.P. AND

HIM A WITNESS, TO KIRKLAND THERE

WAS IMBALANCE OF POWER.

>> THAT IS THE FUNDAMENTAL

ISSUE.

SHE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HER

AUTHORITY AND POSITION.

IF SHE WAS A MALE M.P., I WAS A

FEMALE SOLDIER, LOOK HOW

DIFFERENTLILY THAT WOULD ACT.

IT WOULD BE A DRAMATIC DIFFERENT

COVERS BETWEEN ME AND YOU.

>> Ian: TOM PARRY JOINS US FROM

OTTAWA.

WHERE DOES THE STORY GO FROM

HERE?

>> Reporter: THE STORY ISN'T

OVER.

GLEN KIRKLAND IS BEING SUED BY

CHRISTINE MOORE FOR LIBEL AND

SLANDER.

MOORE HAS LAUNCHED LEGAL

PROCEEDINGS AGAINST A NUMBER OF

MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS AS WELL,

INCLUDING THE CBC, BUT AS FAR AS

MOORE IS CONCERNED, SHE HAS BEEN

CLEARED.

JAGMEET SINGH, THE N.D.P.

LEADER, TODAY CALLED MOORE A

POWERFUL ADVOCATE FOR WOMEN IN

POLITICS.

HE THANKED HER FOR WHAT HE

CALLED HER COOPERATION AND

PATIENCE DURING THIS

INVESTIGATION AND HE SAID THAT

MOORE WOULD NOW BE ABLE TO

RESUME HER CAUCUS DUTIES WITH

THE N.D.P.

>> Ian: THANKS, TOM.

>> Andrew: FOR THE LATEST

CHAPTER IN AN UNPREDICTABLE SAGA

THAT CONTINUES TO GRIP THE

WORLD.

ALL ABOUT THAT RELATIONSHIP OF

TWO POWERFUL LEADERS.

TODAY, "TIME" SHOWED DONALD

TRUMP MORPHING INTO VLADIMIR

PUTIN AND THEN MELDED THEIR

FACES INTO ONE, TO ARRIVE AT THE

LATEST COVER.

QUITE A STATEMENT AS THE WORLD

WONDERS HOW MUCH THEIR INTERESTS

ARE ALIGNED.

FOR A FEW DAYS, TRUMP TRIED TO

COUNTER THAT IMAGE TO SOME

DEGREE BUT THEN TODAY, ANOTHER

STARTLING MOVE.

ELLEN MAURO SHOWS US WHO WAS

CAUGHT BY SURPRISE.

>> THE WHITE HOUSE HAS ANNOUNCED

ON TWITTER THAT VLADIMIR PUTIN

IS COMING TO THE WHITE HOUSE IN

THE FALL.

>> SAY THAT AGAIN?

[LAUGHTER]

>> Reporter: YOU MIGHT EXPECT

THE DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL

INTELLIGENCE TO BE INFORMED OF

THE INVITE, TO MAYBE EVEN TAKE

PART IN THE DECISION.

>> OK.

[LAUGHTER]

>> Reporter: BUT DAN COATS WAS

CLEARLY BLIND SIDED.

>> THAT'S GOING TO BE SPECIAL.

>> Reporter: HIS SHOCK IS

UNDERSTANDABLE.

REMEMBER THIS.

>> HE JUST SAID IT'S NOT RUSSIA,

I WILL SAY THIS, I DON'T SEE ANY

REASON IT WOULD BE.

>> Reporter: THE FALLOUT FROM

THAT STATEMENT RAGES ON EVEN

THOUGH PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS TRIED

TO WALK IT BACK.

>> SAID THE WORD WOULD INSTEAD

OF WOULDN'T.

>> Reporter: AND TODAY, MORE

MIXED MESSAGING, JUST BEFORE

ANNOUNCING THE INVITE, THE

ADMINISTRATION BACKED AWAY FROM

A PUTIN PROPOSAL TO ALLOW U.S.

INVESTIGATORS ACCESS TO RUSSIANS

CHARGED WITH ELECTION MEDDLING

IN EXCHANGE FOR HANDING OVER

U.S. OFFICIALS TO RUSSIA FOR

QUESTIONING, INCLUDING FORMER

AMBASSADOR MICHAEL McFAUL.

TRUMP APPLAUDED THE IDEA.

>> I THINK IT'S AN INCREDIBLE

OFFER.

>> WHAT I WAS FLABBERGASTED BY,

THE WHITE HOUSE WOULD NOT DEFEND

ME.

I'M AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.

>> Reporter: THE PRESIDENT WAS

PANNED IN THE SENATE TODAY FOR

NOT BEING HARDER ON PUTIN.

>> WE DO NOT BUY THE DENIAL OF

VLADIMIR PUTIN.

WE REGRET THAT OUR PRESIDENT

DID.

>> Reporter: BUT REPUBLICAN

LEADERS REFUSED TO ALLOW A VOTE

ON A RESOLUTION REASSERTING THAT

RUSSIA MEDDLED IN THE ELECTION.

>> IN HELSINKI, HE WAS LESS THAN

CLEAR ABOUT THAT, BUT HE CAME

BACK AND SAID THAT HE MISSPOKE

AND REAFFIRMED HIS EARLIER

POSITION THAT, YES, THE RUSSIAN

GOVERNMENT HAD ATTEMPTED TO

INTERFERE IN THE ELECTION.

>> Reporter: THAT'S WHAT MAKES

THE INVITE TO PRESIDENT PUTIN SO

UNUSUAL.

A MAN THAT EVEN PRESIDENT TRUMP

NOW SAYS INTERFERED IN U.S.

DEMOCRACY, INVITED TO THE WHITE

HOUSE.

A MOVE THAT WILL ONLY FUEL

FURTHER CURIOSITY ABOUT WHAT THE

TWO LEADERS DISCUSSED FOR MORE

THAN TWO HOURS IN THAT

CLOSED-DOOR MEETING.

ELLEN MAURO, CBC NEWS,

WASHINGTON.

>> Andrew: ELLEN MENTIONED

FORMER AMBASSADOR MICHAEL McFAUL

AS SOMEONE PRESIDENT PUTIN

WANTED TO INTERVIEW.

YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM

ANOTHER IN A MOMENT.

BILL BROWDER WAS CALLED OUT BY

NAME AS SOMEONE PUTIN WANTS HIS

AGENTS TO QUESTION IN RUSSIA.

IN POST-SOVIET RUSSIA, BROWDER

WAS A HUGE FOREIGN INVESTOR, BUT

CORRUPT OFFICIALS SYPHONED OFF

HIS HOLDINGS BECAUSE HE REFUSED

TO PAY BRIBES.

LAWYER, SERGEI MAGNITSKY

UNCOVERED THAT MONEY TRAIL, WAS

ARRESTED AND DIED IN A RUSSIAN

JAIL.

SINCE THEN, BROWDER STRUCK BACK.

HE'S CHAMPIONED THE MAGNITSKY

AC.

IT LETS THE SANCTIONS OF IN

RUSSIA.

WE HAVE AGREED TO NOT DISCLOSE

BILL BROWEDERS LOCATION, BECAUSE

THE WHITE HOUSE HAS SUGGESTED

THEY WILL NOT HAND YOU OVER TO

THE RUSSIANS FOR QUESTIONING.

WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE YOU?

>> NOT THAT MUCH IN A DIFFERENT

PLACE BEFORE, WHICH IS MORE MANY

YEARS, I'VE BEEN PUTIN'S NUMBER

ONE ENEMY AND AS SUCH, HE'S

WANTED TO CAUSE ME HARM, TO KILL

ME, TO KIDNAP ME, TO EXTRADITE

ME BACK TO RUSSIA.

I'VE BEEN A RELATIVE PRECARIOUS

POSITION AND I HAVE TO DO

WHATEVER I CAN TO SAVE FACE AND

I TRY NOT TO GIVE THEM

OPPORTUNITIES.

BUT OF COURSE, IT IS NOT

PLEASANT TO HAVE THE PRESIDENT

MAKING DIRTY DEALS IN THE

BACKROOM WITH NO WITNESSES WITH

VLADIMIR PUTIN ABOUT ME.

>> Andrew: WE'RE GOING TO HAVE

TO LEAVE IT THERE, BUT BILL

BROWDER, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR

SPEAKING TO US.

>>> SOME OF THE OTHER DEVELOPING

STORIES WE'RE FOLLOWING TONIGHT,

INCLUDING A DISTURBING CASE

OUTSIDE TORONTO INVOLVING THE

ATTEMPTED MURDER OF A

FIVE-YEAR-OLD.

>> WE'RE GOING TO GET TO THE

BOTTOM OF THIS AS FAST AS

POSSIBLE.

WE'RE GLAD WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE

THE ARREST TODAY, BECAUSE OF HOW

BIG A DEAL THIS IS.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE THIS

HAPPENED TO A 5-YEAR-OLD.

>> Reporter: POLICE REACTION

AFTER THE YOUNG BOY WAS FOUND

UNCONSCIOUS WITH

LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES NEAR A

SET OF TRAIN TRACKS IN THE

BRAMPTON.

HE HAD GONE MISSING FROM HIS

HOME OVERNIGHT.

A 28-YEAR-OLD MAN HAS BEEN

CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER.

POLICE WOULDN'T SAY HOW HE KNEW

THE BOY, BUT NEIGHBOURS TOLD CBC

NEWS, HE'S THE MOTHER'S

BOYFRIEND.

THE BOY IS IN HOSPITAL IN STABLE

CONDITION.

>>> QUÉBEC POLICE OFFICER

PATRICK OUELLET WAS FOUND GUILTY

TODAY OR DANGEROUS DRIVING

CAUSING THE DEATH OF A

5-YEAR-OLD BOY.

DURING A CHASE, HE WAS DRIVING

100 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN A 50

KILOMETRE-PER-HOUR ZONE WHEN HE

SLAMMED INTO A CAR WITH TWO

CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEAT.

5-YEAR-OLD NICHOLAS

THORNE-BELANCE WAS CRITICALLY

INJURED AND DIED DAYS LATER IN

HOSPITAL.

FLIGHT ATTENDA

PATRICK OUELLET FUSE IF A ISES

UP TO -- FACES UP TO 14 YEARS IN

PRISON.

>> Ian: WHO IS ALLOWED TO PLAY

WHAT ROLE?

WE BREAK IT DOWN WITH OUR POP

CULTURE PANEL.

>> Andrew: MULTIPLE WILDFIRES

BURNING OUT OF CONTROL IN THE

OKANAGAN REGION.

WE'LL SHOW YOU THE RACE TO

CONTAIN THEM.

>> Ian: THE SENATE SAYS THE

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OWES HUNDREDS

OF THOUSANDS OF WOMEN AND

CHILDREN AN APOLOGY AFTER WHAT

ARE NOW CALLED FORCED ADOPTIONS.

WE'LL BRING YOU ONE WOMAN'S

STORY.

>> SHE WAS NEVER IN MY LIFE.

I NEVER GOT TO CELEBRATE A

BIRTHDAY WITH HER, OR HAVE A

CHRISTMAS WITH HER.

IT'S A TRAGEDY.

AND IT JUST GOES O

>> TO DATE, THERE HAS NOT BEEN

AN OFFICIAL ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY

ANY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT IN

CANADA OF THE PRESSURES THAT

WERE PUT ON UNMARRIED PREGNANT

WOMEN TO SURRENDER THEIR BABIES

FOR ADOPTION AND THE PAIN AND

HUMILIATION IT HAS CAUSED THEM.

>> Andrew: BETWEEN 1945 AND

1971, AN ESTIMATED 350,000

CANADIAN WOMEN WERE FORCED TO

GIVE UP THEIR BABIES FOR

ADOPTION, SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY

WEREN'T MARRIED.

OTTAWA EVEN HELPED FUND

MATERNITY HOMES, WHERE WOMEN

WERE SENT TO HIDE THEIR

PREGNANCIES AND TODAY, SENATORS

CALLED THAT A SHAMEFUL PERIOD IN

CANADIAN HISTORY.

THEY'RE ASKING THE FEDERAL

GOVERNMENT TO FORMALLY APOLOGIZE

TO THE VICTIMS, PAY FOR

COUNSELLING AND CALL ON

PROVINCES AND TERRITORIES TO

MAKE IT EASIER TO RELEASE

ADOPTION FILES.

THE LIBERALS DON'T HAVE TO

ACCEPT THE SENATE

RECOMMENDATIONS, BUT MANY HOPE

THEY DO.

INCLUDING ANNETTE MARIE STOKES.

SHE STILL CAN'T ERASE THE TRAUMA

OF BEING FORCED TO GIVE UP HER

BABY.

>> I HAD MY DAUGHTER IN 1965 IN

MARCH.

AND SHE WAS TAKEN AWAY FROM ME

IMMEDIATELY.

AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, I'M

WATCHING ALL THE OTHER MOTHERS

WITH THEIR BABIES AND I SAID,

WELL, WHERE IS MINE?

I SAID I WANT TO SEE HER, I WANT

TO FEED HER.

AND THEY WOULDN'T -- THEY BOUND

YOUR BREASTS WITH CLOTH SO THAT

YOU WOULDN'T BOND WITH THE

CHILD.

IT WAS A COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT

PEOPLE.

IT WAS THE MEDICAL PROFESSION.

IT WAS CHILDREN'S AID THEY

COERCED ME INTO WRITING --

SIGNING A DOCUMENT THAT

RELINQUISH

RELINQUISHED HER.

AND THEY SAID THE AFFECTS OF

THIS WOULD BE SIMILAR TO IF I

HAD A PET DOG AND IT WAS RUN

OVER BY A CAR.

AND I JUST TO THIS DAY, I'LL

NEVER FORGET THAT STATEMENT THAT

WOMAN MADE.

>> THE TRAUMA IS SEVERE.

YOU'RE IN A VACUUM.

IT'S AS IF YOU'RE IN A VACUUM.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF I EVER CAME

OUT OF THAT VACUUM NOW THAT I'M

THINKING ABOUT IT.

IT WAS JUST HORRENDOUS.

I NEVER HAD ANY OTHER CHILDREN.

AND MANY OF THESE MOTHERS NEVER

HAD ANY OTHER CHILDREN AFTER THE

ONE.

>> THE APOLOGY IS AN

ACKNOWLEDGMENT, IT'S SAYING

WE -- THIS WAS WRONG, WE KNOW IT

WAS WRONG.

IT'S JUST A WHOLE CHAPTER OF MY

LIFE THAT IS GONE.

IT'S GONE.

THEY'VE TAKEN YOUR LIFE AWAY

REALLY BASICALLY WHEN THEY TOOK

THAT CHILD AWAY FROM ME.

>> Andrew: AS WE MENTIONED,

ANNETTE IS ONE OF 350,000

CANADIAN POST WAR WOMEN WHO GAVE

BABIES UP FOR ADOPTION.

DO THE MATH, IT MEANT MORE THAN

1,000 CASES PER MONTH DURING

THAT 27-YEAR PERIOD.

STILL AHEAD ON "THE NATIONAL", A

VOLATILE SITUATION IN B.C. AS

WILDFIRES RIP ACROSS THE

OKANAGAN.

>> Ian: EXTREME RHETORIC CALLS

FOR EXTREME PARODY, OR DOES IT?

>> HIS LUNCH BOX, PUSH IT INTO

HIS TUMMY LIKE THIS.

JUST REMEMBER TO POINT PUPPY

PISTOL'S MOUTH AT THE MIDDLE OF

THE BAD MAN.

IF HE HAS A BIG FAT TUMMY, POINT

AT THAT.

>> Reporter: SACHA BARON COHEN'S

LATEST SHOW, IS IT FUNNY OR

FRIGHTENING?

OUR POP CUL

>> Ian: IT'S NOT JUST THE MANY

FACES OF ACTOR SACHA BARON

COHEN -- IT'S THE REACTIONS HIS

CHARACTERS GET FROM REAL PEOPLE

AND THE FAMOUS.

>> CAN YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN?

I'M TRYING HARD BECAUSE HE KEEPS

TELLING ME ABOUT BUYING A SLAVE,

WE DON'T DO THAT.

>> I'M JUST DANCING.

>> Ian: NOW COHEN IS BACK WITH

FOUR NEW CHARACTERS.

HIS FAMOUS FACE EVEN MORE

DISGUISED.

HIS GUESTS UNAWARE THEY'RE PART

OF AN ELABORATE PRANK TO GET

THEM TO SAY OUTRAGEOUS THINGS

THAT MAY -- KEEP THAT IN MIND --

REFLECT AN EXTREME VERSION OF

THEIR VIEWS.

>> I WOULD LIKE TO HELP YOU DO A

INSTRUCTION VIDEO FOR

3-YEAR-OLDS.

>> JUST REMEMBER TO APPOINTMENT

THE PISTOL'S MOUTH AT THE MIDDLE

OF THE BAD MAN.

>> Ian: THIS IS BRILLIANT,

SATIRE, COMEDY, PRANKSTER, WE'RE

GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT.

STEPHEN MARCHE, AND BEE QUAMMIE.

PRANKSTER.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

>> HE IS A PRANKSTER REALLY.

HIS WHOLE SCHTICK HE'S GOING

COME IN AND MANIPULATE THIS

IMAGE AND CONVINCE PEOPLE TO SAY

EXTREME THINGS.

MY PROBLEM IS THESE EXTREME

VIEWS ARE REAL.

IN THIS CLIMATE WE'RE IN, THERE

IS A LOT OF FAKE NEWS, A LOT OF

OUTRAGE, THERE IS VALUE IN

PUTTING A MIRROR UP AGAINST THE

VIEWS THAT ARE EXTREME.

JOKING ABOUT CHILDREN ARMED IN

SCHOOLS IS NOT REALLY A JOKE

AFTER THE SCHOOL SHOOTINGS WE'VE

SEEN, BUT THESE REPUBLICAN

POLITICIANS ARE WILLINGLY

CELEBRATING THIS IDEA AND I

THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT

SHOULD BE GIVING US PAUSE.

AND IT'S NOT.

>> Ian: PEOPLE WATCHING MAY

THINK THERE IS NO WAY TO

DISAGREE WITH THAT?

>> I DEFINITELY DISAGREE WITH

THAT, THE THING ABOUT SACHA

BARON COHEN, HE'S A GENIUS AND

THIS SHOW CAPTURES THAT.

ONE OF THE GREATSEST CLOWNS.

BUT WHAT HE DOES IS UNNECESSARY

RIGHT NOW AND IT'S KIND OF

DESTRUCTIVE.

WHAT HE DOES IS MUDDY THE WATERS

AND SHOW A PARODY VIEW OF

POLITICIANS AND SHOWS HAD YOU

CAN MANIPULATE IMAGES TO MAKE

PEOPLE SAY, WE ALREADY KNOW

THAT, WE ALREADY LIVED THROUGH

ALL OF THAT.

COMEDY IS THE FAKE NEWS OF THE

WEST.

WHERE YOU GET THIS KIND OF LINE

BETWEEN WHAT IS JUST

ENTERTAINMENT AND WHAT IS ACTUAL

NEWS BLURRED.

>> Ian: FAKE NEWS, THOSE ARE

FIGHTING WORDS AROUND HERE.

I MEAN, COMEDY IS NOT FAKE NEWS,

COMEDY IS COMEDY.

>> BUT PEOPLE GO TO COMEDY FOR

NEWS AND THEY GO TO COMEDY FOR

POLITICAL OPINIONS AND GET THEIR

POLITICAL OPINIONS CONFIRMED.

AND THEY'RE GOING IN THE CONTEXT

OF EXTREME MANIPULATION OF

IMAGE.

I WOULD SAY TO MAKE REPUBLICANS

SAY INSANE THINGS, YOU DON'T

NEED ELABORATE RUSES.

YOU CAN READ THEM IN THE "WALL

STREET JOURNAL", WHERE THEY SAY,

THERE SHOULD BE NO PAPER MONEY

IN THE WORLD.

LIKE, TO MAKE A PARODY ACTUALLY

DIMINISHES WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

AND TAKES AWAY WHAT WE REALLY

NEED RIGHT NOW.

IT'S NOT MORE PARODY, WE NEED

CLARITY.

>> Ian: I WANT TO PLAY A CLIP

FROM THE OTHER JOE WALSH, FORMER

CONGRESSMAN FROM ILLINOIS, A

RADIO HOST AND HERE'S AN EXCERPT

OF WHAT HE SAID ON THE SHOW.

>> THE INTENSIVE THREE-WEEK

KINDERGARTEN COURSE INTRODUCES

SPECIALLY SELECTED CHILDREN FROM

12 TO 4 YEARS OLD TO PISTOLS,

RIFLES, SEMI-AUTOMATICS AND A

RUDIMENTARY KNOWLEDGE OF

MORTARS.

>> Ian: BEE, YOUR REACTION?

>> IT WAS JUST REALLY DIFFICULT

TO WATCH.

AND REALLY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO

FIND THE COMEDY OR THE LEVIT IN

IT.

ON ONE HAND I'M THINKING ABOUT

THE IDEA OF MICHELLE OBAMA'S

QUOTE, WHEN THEY GO LOW, WE GO

HIGH.

WITH A SHOW LIKE THIS, YOU DON'T

NEED TO STOOP TO THAT LEVEL OF

RIDICULOUSNESS TO MAKE A POINT.

I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT 100%.

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FIRE

WITH FIRE AND THAT IS WHAT I

THINK SACHA BARON COHEN THINKS

HE'S DOING, BUT LIKE STEVE SAID,

RIGHT NOW IT'S DETRIMENTAL.

IT'S HOPELESS.

IT'S NOT A TIME WHERE YOU CAN

WATCH SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND

TURN OFF THE TV AND LAUGH ABOUT

HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS.

BECAUSE YOU CAN OPEN THE PAPER

AND READ SOMETHING RIDICULOUS

THAT IS HAPPENING IN REAL LIFE.

SACHA BARON COHEN, HIS COMEDY

AND WHAT HE'S TRYING TO DO HAS

NOT REALLY CHANGED AND IT'S NOT

A SLIGHT TO HIM SAYING HE HASN'T

EVOLVED, BUT THE WORLD HAS

CHANGED.

SO IT'S NOT FITTING THE WAY IT

USED TO FIT.

BECAUSE RIGHT NOW YOU LOOK AT

SOMETHING LIKE THIS, THESE JOKES

ABOUT CHILDREN CARRYING GUNS AND

IT'S LIKE DESPAIR, HOPELESSNESS.

>> Ian: I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU

ON THIS, JOE WALSH, HE SAYS ON

CNN THAT HE WAS DUPED HERE.

THAT WHAT HAPPENED WAS, HE GOT A

CALL, HE WAS GOING TO GET AN

AWARD FROM ISRAEL IN WASHINGTON,

HE FLEW -- YOU'RE LOOKING

SKEPTICAL.

HE FLEW FROM CHICAGO --

>> THIS IS A GROWN MAN.

>> SO HE FLEW FROM CHICAGO TO

WASHINGTON AND GOT THE AWARD AND

WAS PUT IN FRONT OF THE

TELEPROMPTER AND SAID A BUNCH OF

COMPLIMENTARY THINGS ABOUT

ISRAEL, A COUNTRY HE SUPPORTS

AND THEY SLIPPED THIS IN.

SO I FEEL LIKE I'M NOT

CONVINCING YOU.

DOES THAT CHANGE ANYTHING --

WELL IT WAS AN ELABORATE RUSE,

DOES THAT SOFTEN THE OUTRAGE?

>> THESE ARE -- IT JUST MAKES ME

SAD THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT SMART

EAR.

THEY'RE RUNNING POLLS THAT

AFFECT PEOPLE'S LIVES AND MAKING

DECISIONS ON BEHALF OF PEOPLE

WHO ELECTED THEM.

SO IF THEY'RE JUST WILLING TO

PLAY INTO THIS ELABORATE RUSE,

IT CAN'T HAVE BEEN THAT

ELABORATE.

>> I SORT OF THINK IT'S LIKE

WHAT BEE SAID.

WERE YOU THINKING LIKE OH THIS

GUY HAS A LOT OF INTEGRITY AND

HE'S REALLY GOING TO CAREFULLY

SCRUTINIZE WHAT HE'S READING ON

A TELEPROMPTER BEFORE HE SAYS

IT.

THAT'S NOT WHAT ANY POLITICIAN

REALLY, IN 2018, THAT'S NOT WHAT

WE THINK ABOUT.

HE'S MAKING FUN OF OUR

ANTIQUATED IDEAS WE USED TO HAVE

ABOUT RESPECT FOR PUBLIC

FIGURES.

>> Ian: WE'RE GOING TO SWITCH

TOPICS, HOW CHARMING DWAYNE

JOHNSON IS, THE ROCK, AND I'M

GOING TO ASK YOU TO MAKE A

CHOICE HERE OF YOUR FAVOURITE

ROLE.

MAUI IN DISNEY, LUKE IN FAST AND

FURIOUS AND THE TOOTH FAIRY.

>> WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE?

>> LUKE HOBBS.

THAT'S MY FAVE.

>> WHY?

>> I JUST -- I DON'T KNOW, HE'S

JUST MADE FOR THE ROLE.

>> WHEN THIS WHOLE THING IS

OVER, WE'RE GOING TO FIND A

LOCATION AND I'M GOING TO KNOCK

YOUR TEETH SO FAR DOWN YOUR

THROAT, YOUR GOING TO STICK A

TOOTHBRUSH UP YOUR ASS TO FIND

IT.

>> YOU LIKE THE ROCK?

>> I'M NOT BUYING TICKETS TO HIS

MOVIE.

>> THERE ARE QUESTIONS WHO WILL

BUY TICKETS TO SKYSCRAPER, WHERE

HE PLAYS SOMEONE WHO LOST A LIMB

AND THERE IS CONTROVERSY ABOUT

WHETHER SOMEONE WHO HASN'T HAD

AN AMPUTATION SHOULD BE PLAYING

THAT ROLE.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT?

>> THE DISCUSSION AROUND

INCLUSION AND REPRESENTATION IN

HOLLYWOOD IS AT A FEVER PITCH.

THERE WAS THE OSCARS SO WHITE

CAMPAIGN THAT PUSHED THINGS

FORWARD AND GIVEN MORE ROOM FOR

PEOPLE TO HAVE A VOICE.

SO IT'S NOT SURPRISING TO ME

THAT RIGHT NOW THE COMMUNITIES

OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ARE

LOOKING AT THIS MOVIE AND THIS

ROLE AND THINKING THIS IS NOT A

GOOD IDEA.

IT'S INTERESTING THAT DWAYNE

JOHNSON, HE'S PARTNERED WITH AN

ADVOCACY GROUP AROUND GETTING

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES MORE

RECOGNITION IN HOLLYWOOD AND

THEN TAKES THIS ROLE.

I THINK IN HOLLYWOOD SOMETIMES

TO BREAK THAT STATUS QUO THERE

IS AN IDEA, WE NEED A BIG STAR

TO BREAK THIS SUMMER MOVIE AND I

GET THAT.

BUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE AN

ADVOCATE, HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR

POWER TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE AND

OPEN DOORS FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE

THAT REPRESENTATION?

I UNDERSTAND ACTORS WANT TO ACT

AND THEY WANT THE CHALLENGE, BUT

WE'RE MISSING SOMETHING

AUTHENTIC WHEN WE'RE NOT OPENING

THE DOORS FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVED

THOSE EXPERIENCES TO BRING THAT

IN.

>> Ian: IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA

REACTION TO THIS, THERE WAS SOME

PEOPLE WHO TOOK THAT VIEW AND

TOOK IT IN A STRIDENT WAY, BUT

THERE ARE ALSO PEOPLE WHO SOME

OF WHO HAD DISABILITIES AND WHO

SAID THAT, ONE IN PARTICULAR I

REMEMBER SEEING WHERE A YOUNG

PERSON SAID I WAS JUST THRILLED

TO SEE DWAYNE JOHNSON PLAYING

THAT ROLE AND MADE ME FEEL GOOD.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

>> IT'S SUCH A FINE LINE.

BECAUSE I MEAN, YOU KNOW, THESE

REPRESENTATION QUESTIONS ARE

VERY REAL AND THEY'RE VERY

THORNY AND PROBLEMATIC, BUT

ULTIMATELY ACTING IS ABOUT

BECOMING ANOTHER PERSON.

AND MAKEUP IS NOT ALL BLACK

FACED.

IT'S NOT -- WHERE DOES THIS END?

WHERE IS THE LINE?

ARE WE GOING TO GET TO A POINT

WHERE YOUNG ACTORS SHOULDN'T

PLAY OLD ACTORS BECAUSE THAT'S

AGEISM?

I DON'T KNOW.

I DON'T THINK THERE IS A CLEAR

ANSWER TO ME.

I WOULD SAY THAT LIKE, YOU KNOW,

FOR SOME REASON THIS DIDN'T COME

UP WITH FURY ROAD.

MAYBE THAT'S BECAUSE IT WAS A

FUTURISTIC THING, BUT ON THE

OTHER HAND, AT WHAT POINT ARE

REMISING THE POINT OF -- WE

MISSING THE POINT OF ACTING,

WHICH IS TO INHABIT THE LIFE OF

ANOTHER PERSON.

WHICH IS INHERENTLY A PROBLEM

PROPOSITION AND ONE WITH POWER

PROBLEMS.

AND ARE WE GOING TO ABANDON THAT

WHOLE PROCESS IN THE PURSUIT OF

SOME KIND OF RECONCILIATION THAT

MAY NOT HAPPEN.

>> Ian: LAST WORD TO YOU.

>> I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THAT

THERE IS SUCH POWER IN MEDIA,

MOVIES, TELEVISION, TO SHAPE A

CULTURE AND HOW PEOPLE FEEL

INCLUDED IN A CULTURE, AND SO

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE

AUTHENTIC REPRESENTATION.

SO I THINK IT'S A REALLY GOOD

FIRST STEP THAT DWAYNE JOHNSON

IS ACTUALLY ENGAGING ON THE

ISSUES WHILE TAKING THE ROLE.

AND I KNOW PEOPLE HAVE AN ISSUE

WITH HIM TAKING THE ROLE TO

START WITH, BUT WHAT I WOULD

LIKE TO SEE NEXT IS WORK BEHIND

THE SCENES AND ANOTHER FILM THAT

COMES OUT SOON, WHERE THERE

REALLY IS AN ACTOR WITH AN

AUTHENTIC DIFFERENCE OF ABILITY

THAT IS IN THE ROLE PLAYING THE

CHARACTER AND THEN MAYBE THIS

CONVERSATION WITH FACILITATE

THAT MACHINATION BEHIND THE

SCENES.

>> THE ROCK IS THE BIGGEST STAR

IN THE WORLD.

>> NO, BUT IT SHOULDN'T BE AN

INDEPENDENT ART HOUSE EITHER.

IT SHOULD BE A LARGE MOVIE HOUSE

THAT HAS GOT REAL FINANCIAL

BACKING.

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE BLACK

BLACK -- BLOCKBUSTER OF THE

SUMMER.

>> YOU'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE A

BLOCKBUSTER MOVIE WITH A PERSON

WITH A DISABILITY.

>> IT'S DOESN'T MATTER YET IT'S

A BLOCKBUSTER, IT JUST MATTERS

WE'RE HAVING THE CONVERSATION

AND THAT THIS MOVIE IS A

LEGITIMATE MOVIE PEOPLE WANT TO

SEE.

MAYBE IT DOES HAVE A STAR ACTOR

IN IT AS WELL, BUT ALSO A

BREAKOUT ROLE.

>> Ian: I FEEL I'VE LOST CONTROL

OF THE TIME.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE'RE GOING TO DO THIS ON THE

PROGRAMME.

WE DIDN'T GET TO YOU TALKING

ABOUT CHER.

>> Andrew: NEXT ON "THE

NATIONAL", THIS SUMMER A GROWING

NUMBER OF CANADIANS ARE

DISCOVERING THERE IS TROUBLE IN

THE GREAT OUTDOORS AND YOU MIGHT

WANT TO BE PREPARED.

>> YOU GET SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE

JUST WALKING IN AND THEY LOOK

PERFECTLY FINE, BUT THEY HAVE

IT.

AND THEN YOU GET OTHER PEOPLE

COMING IN A WHEELCHAIR.

>> Andrew: FIRST, A PREVIEW OF A

SHORT DOC YOU CAN WATCH

TOMORROW.

WE'LL INTRODUCE TO YOU FIVE GUYS

WHO SAY WHEN THEY WALK DOWN THE

STREET, THEY GET STARES,

WHISPERS, LAUGHS, STRANGERS EVEN

SNAPPED PICTURES, ALL BECAUSE OF

THEIR DOGS.

>> WHAT IS THAT?

>> THEY'RE NOT REAL DOGS.

THEY'RE NOT REAL DOGS.

ANYTHING SMALLER THAN LIKE A LAB

IS NOT A REAL DOG.

>> BE NICE.

>> HE MUST BE A SWEET GUY VERSUS

A BIG BIKER TYPE GUY.

>> IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST BITE.

I SAID BITE, RIGHT?

>> WHEN I SEE A LARGE MAN

WALKING A SMALL DOG I FEEL IT'S

BECAUSE HE HAS TO TAKE CARE OF

IT FOR HIS GIRLFRIEND.

>> NORMALLY I THINK IT'S

SOMEBODY LOOKING TO PICK UP

WOMEN.

>> I THINK IT'S PROBABLY HIS

GIRLFRIEND'S, WHY WOULD A LARGER

MAN HAVE A SMALL DOG?

>> A BIG TOUGH WITH A LITTLE

POODLE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,

PEOPLE START TO THINK OF THE BIG

GUYS AS TOUGH AND WHAT NOT.

SOMETIMES THEY JUST WANT TO ROLL

AROUND WITH A CUTE LITTLE PUPPY

OR WHATEVER.

>> HE WAS AN INNOCENT VICTIM, HE

WAS AN INNOCENT PERSON.

AND I UNDERSTAND THIS IS VERY

IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY.

IT'S NOT SOMETHING TO BE ASHAMED

IT'S SOMETHING TO BE CELEBRATED,

BECAUSE WE'RE RECLAIMING OUR

Mal Unleashes Her Evil Powers - Part 49 - Descendants Star Darlings Disney - Duration: 10:14.

Disney Doll Story

Jay.

Yes.

I'm sorry.

What for?

You can drop me off over there.

Here we are.

It's been great.

You've been a great friend.

You talk like we'll never see each other again.

See you tomorrow.

Ok.

Take care.

I think I figured out how to activate the Star Path.

You did?

My magic staff.

I left it at the beach house.

Wait here.

I'll go get it.

Thanks.

She must have hidden the trap somewhere deep.

Lonnie?

Dizzy.

I didn't know you were here.

Yeah, I got here yesterday.

Whoa.

Mal got a magic staff?

I need that.

Mal is looking for it.

What a craftsmanship.

I wonder who made it.

It's not from around here.

Jasmine gave it to Mal.

Mal can wield this magic staff?

How powerful is she exactly?

But we haven't picked all twelve Starlings yet.

I don't need to.

This Star Path doesn't require twelve Starlings.

It says right here.

The Great Book of Sorcery.

This book is forbidden.

This structure wasn't built by Starlings, which was why it's locked behind a barrier

on Starland.

What?

But I thought you need Power of Twelve to activate this.

No.

Starlings have nothing to do with this.

I think I know what this is.

Aren't you curious what your future looks like?

Star Room is right there.

Yes, but I will not go out of my ways to find out.

Then at least aren't you curious what Mal's future looks like?

Did you find out?

I did and it's pretty interesting.

Why?

What does it say?

Her future doesn't include you.

I brought the magic staff.

Lonnie.

Jane, I received a special mission from King Beast.

What is it?

I can't tell you, but it's definitely going to upset Mal.

Oh, please don't tell me King Beast plans to get rid of Mal or something.

This potion will make me strong, right?

Yes.

But.

Thanks.

What will you do?

I told you I can make you a president.

Maleficent can make you an Evil Queen.

You are a princess of Auradon.

Why do you need this potion?

There is something I need to do.

You already have everything anyone could want.

What more could you want?

Because I have to.

I need to save Auradon from Mal.

No.

No.

Nothing like that.

You know how much Belle likes Mal.

Ok.

Good.

Have you seen a little box?

With a key?

Oh

You saw it.

Didn't you?

Where is it?

I need it.

Mal wouldn't leave me.

Are you sure?

Her future is very different from yours.

You can go in and look.

No.

Villains will win.

Before everything collapses.

There is a great war coming.

No.

Not another one.

It's a final battle between good and evil.

And we made sure good can't win this time.

Is it you?

The one who will destroy everything?

No.

It's Mal.

You've always known there is great evil in Mal.

you know Mal was very upset last time.

Give it to me.

It can only trap one maybe two Darklings at a time.

Yes.

If the Darklings find out about this, a whole slew of Darklings will come after you.

You don't have time.

That's ok.

I'm a master of strategies.

One against many, no problem.

Here.

This is Mal's star.

Everything she will do, everything she will become, it's all written in here.

I shouldn't see this.

But maybe you should.

After you read it, you will know you only have one choice.

What choice is that?

Clip her wings before she destroys everything.

But.

She will leave you.

It's already been foretold.

I think I know what you are about to do.

Jafar.

I told you I can help you get out of your predicament if you marry my son, Jay.

I can't.

Jay will be happier with someone else.

He might not be a prince, but you will like him.

It's not that.

I still love Ben and I don't think I can ever let him go.

Unrequited love.

I suggest you move on before you turn into someone like me.

Are you sure we are allowed to read this?

Read it because I need your opinion.

It's about Mal.

As Mal's closest and a long time friend, what do you think I should do?

You can't clip her wings.

But she will destroy the world as you know it.

There is no good left in this world.

No.

You don't have to do this.

I think I have to.

What will you gain from this?

You and Mal both of you will lose everything.

I think I was able to do everything I ever wanted to do.

Princess.

Hero.

Villain.

Adventures.

Friends.

Audrey.

No.

I can't let you do this.

Jay.

I already made up my mind.

I don't know what you want me to do.

You don't need my permission.

Ben, you are going to lose Mal anyway no matter what you do.

You are condemning Mal to something she hasn't done yet.

Not yet.

But she will.

Can you live with your decision?

Because Mal will hate you forever.

She will not leave you alone.

Give me the dagger.

No.

I have to.

I think this was what I was meant to do.

Wait.

You still haven't found your true love.

I did.

I don't think it was meant to be reciprocated but I did.

Jordan.

You have to stop her.

Bye Bye Jay.

Let's go.

Audrey.

Audrey.

Dizzy?

Where did she go?

Mal.

Come in.

Ben?

Mal.

I saw your future and it's not good.

What did you read?

You are right.

It turns out you are my villain.

I meant it when I said I will lose for you.

I don't think it's that simple.

You need me to clip my wings, don't you?

Mal.

I can't possibly.

You don't have to say anymore.

I will not let you carry that burden with you for rest of your life.

Mal, don't do anything until I come back.

Just please.

Ben.

Where did you get that magic staff?

Mal.

Ben, I'm sorry.

But I think we both know how this ends.

Mal.

Mal.

There you are.

Mal?

Lonnie.

Can I talk to you?

What do you need help with?

You said you can do anything for me.

How much do you mean that?

Well.

As long as it doesn't conflict with my other obligations.

Can you bring me Audrey's dagger?

You mean King Stephen's dagger?

What will you do with it?

I need it.

Audrey, are you sure?

Thanks.

I'll wait here for you.

Audrey.

Mal is asking for your dagger.

Ok.

Is she inside?

Give it to me.

I'll do it.

No, I will do it.

Mal knows you are coming.

How do you plan to rip her wings out?

I have a plan.

Lonnie, you've been a great friend.

Audrey.

Mal.

Are you sure?

Yes.

Wouldn't it be better if Evie is here?

No.

I don't want to burden her.

She's going through so much already.

But it says only the worthy one can activate this.

I figured out who it is.

When I activate this, a star path will appear connecting two gates.

This one and the one up in Starland.

Is it you?

The worth one?

No.

When it is activated, a path will appear.

Your ship will be able to travel up to Starland.

Then who is it?

I don't understand.

You'll see.

Bring back everyone safely, especially Ben, ok?

No.

Jay?

Audrey.

Audrey.

Audrey.

Audrey.

No.

Stop.

Audrey, get out of here.

No.

Mal.

Stop.

Jay, get Audrey out of here.

Darklings, I can't let you drag Mal into darkness with you.

She's shutting down the gate.

Come out and get me if you dare.

She can't shut the door completely.

Let's get her.

Your wings half ripped.

Mal.

Leave me.

But your wings.

Get out.

Get out.

Your wings.

It's coming back together.

Yes, my wings can attach back together.

Mal.

Audrey, what have you done?

I must finish what I started.

Come out.

I know you are in there.

Mal.

Please.

Where is Audrey?

Mal.

Mal.

No.

No.

Please.

It's too late.

You should've done it when you had your chance.

Mal.

Mal.

No.

No.

Mal.

Audrey, get out of here.

Meghan Markle's dad Thomas 'Utterly Furious' As Sharon Osbourne Accuses Him of Drinking Problem - Duration: 5:18.

Meghan Markle's dad is said to be "utterly furious" with Sharon Osbourne after she

accused him on national TV of "having a bad drinking problem".

Sharon, 65, claimed that it was "so obvious" that Thomas Markle, 74, had a problem with

alcohol on her CBS show, The Talk, just a day after Thomas gave a tell-all interview

about his daughter.

Sharon held her head in her hands as she described how "humiliating" it must have been for

Meghan, then went in for the kill on the duchess's dad.

"It is so obvious that you have a bad drinking problem," she said of Thomas.

"And it's obvious that over the last few years, you haven't been close with your daughter.

"Get yourself clean and sober and then come back."

However, friends of the former Hollywood lighting director have defended their pal, claiming

that Thomas isn't an alcoholic, and only ever occasionally has a glass of wine with

a meal.

One friend told The Sun that Thomas was "shocked" by Sharon's outburst questioning his sobriety.

"It's totally untrue and he's been through enough with his recent health issues without

people making these sorts of allegations.

"He's livid.

Utterly furious.

Sharon Osbourne doesn't know him at all.

How dare she say these things?"

It came after a close friend claimed Thomas 'made up' his heart attack days before the

royal wedding so he could avoid the media circus.

"The whole story about Meghan's father undergoing heart surgery was made up," said the insider

"He had to come up with a good enough reason not to attend her wedding and avoid any further

embarrassment after those staged photos went public," reports Mail Online .

Earlier this week, Thomas pleaded with the royal couple to let him be part of their lives

- and says he will continue speaking with the media until they 'break their silence'.

Thomas says he is unfazed by reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are growing

'frustrated' with his recent outspoken interviews about Meghan.

The defiant man says he simply wants to make peace with his estranged daughter.

Meghan Markle's close friend has slammed the Duchess's dad, Thomas Markle, claiming his

heart surgery was 'all made up' after his embarrassing staged photo shoot.

Thomas Markle pulled out of his daughter's wedding just days after it emerged he had

been paid to pose for pictures of his shopping for a wedding outfit and looking at pictured

of Meghan and Harry.

Meghan Markle's close friend claims 'story' about Duchess's dad's heart surgery was 'made

up' so he could avoid royal wedding.

It was later revealed the 73-year-old had suffered a heart attack and was undergoing

heart surgery.

Now, a source close to the Duchess of Sussex has branded his heart surgery as a 'story',

fabricated as a way out of the wedding.

They said: "The whole story about Meghan's father undergoing heart surgery was made up.

"He had to come up with a good enough reason not to attend her wedding and avoid any further

embarrassment after those staged photos went public.", reports the Mail Online.

The source added people should 'feel sorry for Meghan' as opposed to her father.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Thomas, a former film lighting director, said he had

checked into the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, north of the Mexican border.

Thomas Markle has also said he won't stop speaking to the media until the Royals break

their silence.

He said he's unfazed by reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are growing 'frustrated'

with his recent outspoken interviews about Meghan.

Thomas told TMZ he simply wants to make peace with his estranged daughter.

He said: "I was silent for a full year and the press beat me up every day saying I was

a hermit hiding in Mexico, so I gave my story.

"Apparently that interview put the Royal Family in their silence mode ... so, I gave another

interview to break the silence.

All they have to do is speak to me."

Thomas Markle also said that he is amused that he can force the Royal Family into a

media blackout.

"Tomorrow [Wednesday] is my birthday, 74 years old, and I'm enjoying the fact that I can

make the entire Royal Family not speak and maybe I can get a laugh out of the Duchess."

Mr. Markle has given numerous interviews in recent months, including a paid interview

with the Sun in which he revealed his daughter hasn't returned his calls for over two months.

He also said that he thought that his the 36-year-old actress looked 'terrified' in

her new life as a fully-fledged royal.

"I see it in her eyes," he said.

"I see it in her face and I see it in her smile.

I've seen her smile for years.

I know her smile.

I don't like the one I'm seeing now.

This one isn't even a stage smile - this is a pained smile."

Sharon Osbourne has accused Thomas Markle of being an alcoholic who needs to 'get clean'.

Appearing on an American talk show, she urged him to stop humiliating Meghan and stop drinking.

How to Improve English Grammar - Tips to Learn English Grammar Faster - Duration: 17:02.

Hi, I'm Olivier.

Welcome to Oxford Online English!

In this lesson, you can learn how to improve your English grammar.

To some people, 'grammar' is kind of a dirty word.

It probably makes you think of boring textbooks, boring exercises, and boring lessons.

Maybe you think, "Why do I need grammar?

I just want to communicate."

But, here's the thing: grammar isn't just something in a book.

Grammar is how you connect words into phrases, and phrases into sentences.

Every time you connect two words, you're using grammar.

Even now, you're using grammar to understand what we're saying.

We think there's a better way to learn English grammar than just doing endless exercises.

In this lesson, you'll see a step-by-step, practical plan to improve your English grammar

in any area.

To work on grammar, it's a good idea to have a book for reference.

One of the most popular is English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy.

You can find a link under the video.

So, let's start: you want to improve your English grammar.

What should you do first?

'English grammar' is not just one topic.

It's tens of major topics, and each of those contains tens of smaller topics.

So, you need to know where to begin.

You need to set goals and establish priorities for your studies.

How can you do that?

Let's start with five things.

Make a list of five errors or grammar problems you have.

Maybe, you already know some errors you make.

Maybe your teacher corrects you or your classmates often, and you have an idea.

A good way to do this is through writing.

Write something for your teacher, and ask them to highlight and correct your grammar

mistakes.

See which mistakes you make most often.

If you aren't studying with a teacher, what can you do?

This can be more difficult.

One suggestion: use a grammar book which has exercises and an answer key.

Choose five topics which you think you will find difficult.

Do the exercises and check your answers.

If you made a lot of mistakes, then you know you need to do more work on these topics.

Here's another suggestion: find a reading text, for example a news article online.

Make sure the text is not too difficult for you.

Read the text two to three times.

Next, try to rewrite the text without looking at it.

Don't worry about getting it perfect; just do your best.

Afterwards, compare your text with the original.

Where did you make mistakes?

Did you make mistakes with verb forms?

With adverbs?

Word order?

This should show you where some of your grammar mistakes are.

Okay, hopefully now you have a list of five grammar errors or weaknesses.

It could look like this:

Using the present perfect Word order in questions

Using commas correctly Mixing up adjectives and adverbs

Prepositions after adjectives

Be as specific as you can with your list.

Writing something like 'verbs' or 'prepositions' isn't really helpful.

Now, you have your list.

What's next?

If you have a problem with a grammar topic, there can be two basic reasons: form or function.

The first possibility is that you don't know how to form a structure correctly.

For example, think about the present perfect verb tense: I have done…

To form the present perfect, you need to know several things, such as:

Use 'have' or 'has' plus a past participle Make negatives with 'haven't' or 'hasn't'

Make questions by moving 'have' or 'has' before the subject

If you don't know these rules well, you might make mistakes like these:

She have been to Cambodia.

I don't have finished.

How long they have lived here?

Can you correct these mistakes?

Often, problems with form are habits.

You say and write the wrong sentence hundreds of times, and then it's hard to change it.

The only way to correct these habits is to repeat and review the correct form many, many

times.

The best way to do that?

Use a flashcard app like Quizlet.

We'll talk about this in more detail later.

Or, maybe you don't know the correct form.

If so, use your grammar book to check.

Problems with form are simpler to understand, but sometimes they take a long time to fix,

especially if your mistakes have become deep habits.

You heard before that there are two basic reasons you could have problems with a grammar

topic.

What's the other?

The other possibility is that you don't understand the function.

What does that mean?

'Function' means how a grammar structure is used, and what meaning it has.

For example, think again about the present perfect verb tense.

To use the present perfect correctly, you need to know things like:

Use the present perfect to talk about states which started in the past and are still true

now.

Don't use the present perfect to talk about finished times in the past.

Use the present perfect to talk about life experiences when you don't specify a time.

Of course, there are more!

These are just examples.

If you don't understand these rules, you might make mistakes like these:

I am living here since four years.

We've had lunch three hours ago.

Have you ever been to Japan last year?

Can you correct these mistakes?

Often, problems with function are problems with translation.

Maybe your language doesn't have this grammar structure, or maybe your language expresses

expresses these ideas in a different way.

If you have problems with the function of a grammar structure, what can you do?

First, check the rules in your grammar book and try to find example sentences.

Think about how you would express the same ideas in your language.

Secondly, think about how this grammar works in your language.

Do you have the same structure?

Do you use it in the same way?

The most difficult grammar topics will often be things which don't exist in your language.

For example, many languages don't have an exact equivalent to the present perfect in

English, which is why so many English learners find this verb tense particularly difficult.

However, thinking about the differences between your language and English can help to make

things clearer.

Okay, so now you've found your mistakes and thought about where they come from.

What next?

You're going to see one of the most powerful learning tools you can use.

Even better, it's simple!

Anyone can use it.

It's called templating.

Templating means you take part of a sentence, and finish it in different ways.

Let's stick with the example of the present perfect.

Here's an unfinished sentence:

I have never…

Your job is to finish the sentence in five different ways.

Make them as different as possible.

Here's one example:

I have never eaten snake.

Can you make one or two more?

Think about it now.

You could make sentences like:

I have never been to New Zealand.

I have never seen 'Titanic'.

Try to make sentences which are true for you.

This way, they'll be more meaningful and easier to remember.

Remember: you need five sentences for each template.

That means you need to think of at least two more!

Think of two more things you've never done, and write them down.

Let's look at some more templates you could use to practice the present perfect:

I have … this week.

I haven't … yet today.

… have/has been living … for … I've been … recently.

My … has … since …

Can you see how you could complete these templates?

Think about it.

Pause the video if you want more time.

Let's see some possibilities:

I've watched this video three times this week.

I haven't had coffee yet today.

My sister has been living in Milan for three years.

I've been reading a lot of Chekhov recently.

My wife has been a doctor since 2005.

Of course, these are just suggestions!

You should write sentences which are true for you.

Also, remember that you should try to write five sentences for each template.

If you can't think of five, write as many as you can.

You can use this to practice any grammar topic.

For example, here are three templates you could use to practice using must, have to

and should:

At work, we mustn't … Tomorrow, I have to …

If you want to learn English quickly, you should …

Here are three templates you could use to practice talking about the future:

Tonight, I'm … For my next vacation, we're going to …

Next year, I hope I'll …

You see,

you can use this to practice anything.

Why should you use this method?

What makes it so powerful?

It's powerful because you're learning grammar through real-life examples.

Also, you're learning grammar in full sentences.

Finally, this lets you practice your vocabulary, too!

You have one more thing to do here.

You need to make sure your templated sentences are correct.

You're going to use these templates to practice and learn.

If you have any mistakes in your sentences, you'll just create bad habits which will

be difficult to change in the future.

So, ask your teacher, ask a friend, or ask on an online forum.

Make sure your sentences are correct.

Now, you're ready for step four.

Flashcard apps like Quizlet or Anki are a great way to review and remember grammar when you're learning English.

Both of these apps are mostly free to use, although the Anki app for IoS costs money.

Our staff and our students have had good results with both these apps.

There are others available, and you should probably try different ones and see which

one you like best!

You can find links underneath the video.

So, why do you need an app like this?

Using a flashcard app will help you to remember more of what you study and practice.

How can you do this?

First, you can make questions using your template sentences.

Put one or two gaps in a sentence and make a question, like this:

Do you remember the answer?

You can also make a question with a mistake which you make frequently.

The answer is the corrected sentence.

For example:

Correct the mistake: I just have had a shower.

Can you correct the mistake?

I've just had a shower.

The word order was wrong.

Put the correct sentence as your answer.

So, there are two kinds of cards you can make: gapped sentences and error correction.

You can make gapped sentence cards easier or harder by leaving out different numbers

of words.

For example:

My sister has ________ ________ in Milan for three years.

Or: My sister ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ ________ three years.

You might be thinking: this sounds like a lot of work!

Do I really have to make my own cards?

Do I have to do this for every grammar topic I study?

No, you don't have to, but you should.

Here's why:

First, you should make your own cards so that you're using your own examples.

Your own examples should mean something to you.

They're real; they're about you and your life.

This makes them easier to remember.

Secondly, you should spend the time to make your own cards because it will save you time

later.

If you review efficiently, you can remember seventy to eighty percent of what you learn.

If you don't, you'll forget most of what you study, and then you'll have to do it

again in the future.

So, spending time now will save you a lot more time in the future.

Not only that: isn't it frustrating when you can't remember something you've studied

tens of times?

It's demotivating, and that's a problem.

You need to be motivated to learn English!

Using flashcards and templating will help you to remember more of what you study.

This will give you motivation, because you'll feel that you're making more progress.

Finally, make sure you review your cards every day, or as often as possible.

Review your cards when you have a spare moment during the day.

For example, do them before you get up in the morning, or on the subway to work,

or during a break.

Now, you have a four-step process to improve your English grammar:

Step one: identify and write down your weaknesses.

Start with five topics maximum.

The topics you write down should be as specific as possible.

Step two: identify the mistakes you make and the problems you have.

Do you have problems with the form, or the function, or both?

Use a grammar book to check, or ask a teacher.

Step three: make templates, and write five full sentences for each template.

The sentences should be real: write true sentences about you and your life.

Check your sentences carefully and make sure they're correct.

Step four: take your sentences and make them into flashcards.

You can make gapped sentences or error correction questions.

Review your cards regularly.

And that's all!

Use these tools, and you can learn anything you want to efficiently.

【必見】英語の発音練習方法はこれだ!/ How to master English pronunciation - Duration: 8:51.

Today I'm going to talk about pronunciation as I did on my last video

On the last video, I told you that having accent is fine

as long as people understand what you say

On this video, I'm going to talk about how I practiced pronunciation and what I recommend you guys to do

for those of you guys who wanna speak kinda cool

and who wanna be able to speak English that is understandable

You should ask native English speaker to help you for your pronunciation

In order to make this video, I asked some of my friends whose pronunciations are good

how they practiced their pronunciation

All of them said that they asked somebody, like host family and American friends, to correct their pronunciation

Although this seems a good idea only for people who are studying abroad

there are things you can try even if you are not studying abroad right now!

You may think that there's chance to improve your pronunciation if you are in your home country

but you can take English lessons,

or you can go to talk to your English teachers for help

or there might be some events where you can meet international students and become friends with them

In fact, some of my friends hang out with international students in Japan

In my case, when I went to an American high school, I had a host sister, Sabrina

I asked her to correct my English pronunciation when we were talking

that's why, we stopped talking in every single conversations and practiced pronunciation

for the first 2 or 3 months

After she taught me correct pronunciation, I just kept practicing with her or by myself

You should watch English drama and movies to learn how to pronounce

and use Youtube and Google translate to search for correct pronunciation

This is also what a lot of my friends who have good pronunciations told me

I also do this even now

When there's a word that I don't know how to pronounce

I write it down on notes and practice it later

when I have a chance to use that next time, I try to pronounce in a correct way

IT IS NOT TRUE THAT YOUR ENGLISH BECOMES PERFECT ONCE YOU STUDY ABROAD

There are two main benefits of studying abroad based on the purpose of improving pronunciation

First, there are many people who teach you how to pronounce when you have mistakes

Second, since you always need to speak English, you notice which words you can't pronounce well by yourself

It is actually really hard to practice pronunciation if you don't have a chance to study abroad

but I believe that there are still something that you can work on

You need to create opportunities by yourself

like talking to international students

asking English teachers for help

You need to be active for anything if you wanna improve something

I have friends who have never studies abroad

but can speak English fluently, and their pronunciations are pretty good

So I want you guys to keep trying what you can do in order to achieve your goals

I told you guys how to practice pronunciation

and now I'm going to teach you guys how to pronounce some alphabets

that might be hard for you guys, especially for Japanese people

For R, you wanna roll your tongue and put it on the top of your mouth

For L, you wanna put your tongue on the behind of top center teeth

For example, Rock and Lock might be hard to distinguish

How was it?

For S, it's just S. It's easy right?

For Th, you wanna put your tongue between top teeth and bottom teeth

For example, Pass and Path can be confusing

Are you guys following me?

For B, that's easy right? I hops so

For V, you wanna bite your rip by your top center teeth

How you pronounce F is similar to V

For example, Bought and Vote

Were you be able to pronounce all of them?

Finally, I'm gonna introduce the another way to practice pronunciation

This is not what you wanna do on conversations, but for your practice by yourself

NEWS TODAY - Afterpay founders boost wealth by $110m each after shares continue surge - Duration: 5:04.

Afterpay founders boost wealth by $110m each after shares continue surge

The founders of Afterpay have each received a $110 million boost in their paper wealth since Wednesday, after strong profit guidance triggered a surge in its share price.

Afterpay reported a sharp jump in sales on Thursday, as a growing number of retailers and consumers both in Australia and overseas sign up to the buy now, pay later service.

Investors cheered the news, which included profit guidance, boosting the stock by 24 per cent on Thursday, and the stock was up a further 18 per cent on Friday morning, at a record high of $15.

Co-founders Nick Molnar and Anthony Eisen each own 22.

5 million shares in the company, according to stock exchange filings, giving them stakes worth almost $360 million on Friday morning's share price.

A business update from ASX-listed Afterpay Touch Group on Thursday said total underlying sales processed through its platform over the financial year were $2.

18 billion, 289 per cent higher than last year.

After launching in the US in May, with Mr Molnar leading the expansion, Afterpay said it had signed contracts with 400 retailers in the massive US consumer market, including clothing retailer Revolve.

In total, it said about 16,500 retailers were now offering the service, which allows customers to receive their goods before they have paid for them, and has proven to be highly popular with younger consumers.

Customers must pay the merchant back in fortnightly instalments and are charged fees for late payments, with most of Afterpay's revenue coming from fees paid by merchants.

The company also said it had signed up more Australian retailers, including Bing Lee and Mitre 10, and it also offers the service through about 10,000 traditional "bricks and mortar" stores, as well as online.

It provided guidance that unaudited revenue would be about $142 million for the financial year, with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of $33 million to $34 million.

While Afterpay has enjoyed a boom in sales and a surging share price, there remains uncertainty surrounding a probe by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission into buy now, pay later platform.

Afterpay is not regulated by consumer credit laws because it does not charge interest, but consumer groups say its approach takes advantage of a "legal loophole," as it does not need to comply with responsible lending obligations that apply to banks.

In response to these concerns and the risk of fraud, Afterpay says it has voluntarily engaged with regulators and consumer groups, including by beefing up its anti-fraud measures and verification of customers' identification, and by capping late payment fees.

The update on Thursday said engagement with government, ASIC and consumer groups was continuing.

Afterpay, which has taken off at a time when credit card debt is on the nose, estimated it processed 10 per cent of total physical online retail in Australia, and one in ten Australians had used the service.

The company is eyeing more growth in Australia by seeking more contracts with retailers, including in their physical stores, and by pursuing opportunities in industries such as health, beauty, entertainment and travel.

Arsenal transfer : Unai Emery told to sign Ozil and Mkhitaryan replacement ● News Now ● #AFC - Duration: 1:42.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery should sign free agent Max Meyer as he would be a good backup option

to Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

hat is the opinion of former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour.

Midfielder Meyer left Schalke at the end of his contract last season.

The German was linked with Arsenal earlier this summer but rumours have quietened in

recent weeks.

However, reports have returned, claiming both Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on the 22-year-old.

Parlour says Meyer is not the type of signing Arsenal desperately need.

But he believes it would bolster the squad and take the workload off the likes of Ozil

and Mkhitaryan.

"I don't think Max Meyer is a necessity because Arsenal already have lots of attacking

options," Parlour told bwin.

"We've never struggled to score goals and create goals.

We're great to watch.

"However, he's a great player and you have to be interested in these types of players

if they're available and you want to be a big club.

"It's a long hard season and Max Meyer may well be needed if Mesut Ozil or Mkhitaryan

dropped off the pace."

Meyer made 191 appearances in total for Schalke, scoring 22 goals.

Arsenal transfer news: David Ospina allowed to leave despite Petr Cech rumours - Duration: 2:16.

Ospina was No 2 behind Petr Cech last season with Unai Emery also signing Bernd Leno this summer

There is doubt over Cech's future though with former club Chelsea linked to a surprise move for the Czech keeper

Leno is expected to be Emery's No 1 but with Cech potentially leaving, it could leave Arsenal short on goalkeepers

Even so, the Evening Standard report that the Gunners will allow Ospina to leave if he finds a new club

Besiktas have been strongly linked with the Colombian as the Turkish club could lose their current keeper

Fulham are in the hunt for Fabri but Besiktas aren't alone in their chase for Ospina

Boca Juniors could lure him back to South America while Fenerbahce are also believed to be interested

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes there will be no issue with Ospina leaving the club as he insists Cech will remain

"I'm very happy with the signing of Bernd Leno, though I think Petr Cech will still be the first-choice goalkeeper," he said

"Leno is a young goalkeeper with great potential who'll be looking to put as much pressure on Cech as possible

"Goalkeeper is a vital position and Arsenal need a fantastic goalkeeper to be successful, so we need to hope Cech can pass on the torch to Leno for the years to come

"Cech won't be looking to leave this summer and Arsenal will be counting on him being No 1

"I think Ospina will leave the club this summer, rather than Cech."

Equivocada / Lyrics + Translation - Duration: 4:04.

I know I fell in love

I fell lost without recognizing

That when the sun rises

Love goes

It hurts to recognize

It hurts to be wrong and it hurts to know

That it's better without you

Even though it isn't at the beginning

You lost me

At the moment I saw you

You always made me

The way you wanted

Because I always was wrong

And didn't want to see it

Because I gave my life for you

Because everything that beginns ends

Because I never had more reasons

To be without him

Because it costs a lot of power to make decisions

Because I know it will hurt

And today I can understand

That you always made this woman

Immeasurable sad

Today I can't any longer

I'm still determined to leave you

I'm hurt because of your hate

You lost me

At the moment I saw you

You always made me

The way you wanted

Because I always was wrong

And didn't want to see it

Because I gave my life for you

Because everything that beginns ends

Because I never had more reasons

To be without him

Because it costs a lot of power to make decisions

Because I know it will hurt

Yes, this way I feel

I don't know why I continue

I betted my life for him

Because I always was wrong

And didn't want to see it

Because I gave my life for you

Because everything that beginns ends

Because I never had more reasons

To be without him

Because it costs a lot of power to make decisions

Because I know it will hurt

And today I can understand

That you always made this woman

Immeasurable sad
