Gerre! Gerre! Gerre!
Wake up! Wake up!
We have to record the new album! Let's go!
Seriously, are you kidding me?
Oh shit, my dentures
Damn you're right, the new album!
I hope I've got some beer left, otherwise I can't sing
Shit!
"Being sober now, it looked better being drunk!"
Hey guys! So we are here in the Gernhard Studios in Troisdorf, Germany...
...Producer Martin Buchwalter...
...and we're here to record our new album: "One Foot In The Grave"
Yes! Finally we managed to work together with Martin!
Was nice from you that to finally listened to it!
So I guess most of you will ask yourself: „Why once again a new producer?"
There's a simple answer: The producer who offers the biggest amount of money to work with such an amazing band like us, will get the job!
No, just kidding
Just as with the latest albums of TANKARD, we concentrated the most on my singing,...
...if you want to call it "singing". Let's just say "vocals"
We are positive and believe that this record is going to be great as fuck!
So for me it was the first time working with TANKARD and all I can say is…
…it was definitely nice!
We had a lot of fun and the guys were really well prepared, which is always very important in the studio.
So yeah, this album is going to be amazing!
We took about three or four weeks for the recordings because we worked a lot with Gerre on the vocals
I think this is absolutely important because the vocals are kind of a signature
You always have to take care if the songs are represented in the right way and...
...especially with such a striking style of singing, you have to concentrate on the vocals!
That was hard work today!
Oh man, screaming like this... In my age…
Okay, I need another beer!
God damn!

DIY: Makeup Organizer AND Vanity With Selfie Camera For Deepica Mutyala | Bea Organized | Refinery29 - Duration: 8:42.
Hey!
I'm Bea, video producer at Refinery29 with a side hustle as a professional organizer.
On today's episode, I'm meeting a beauty influencer who's getting a fresh start.
Hey Bea!
It's Deepica and I am in major need of your help in organizing girl.
Like, my apartment is a complete mess.
All that there is, all my beauty disaster chaos.
Please, please help.
Being a beauty vlogger, there's a lot of amazing perks to it, right?
I am obsessed with makeup and I get like, every couple of days, maybe ten packages of
makeup just sent to me.
I feel like I didn't have that person to look to.
There wasn't a person that looked like me doing this for people to look up to.
My main concern is that like, literally I'm living here so you can see there's like
the couch and I have this divider space for where my bed is.
I have my soft boxes here because I also film all my video tutorials here and my products
are just everywhere.
This is my vanity where I get ready but it's also where I'm gonna film my tutorials.
Okay, cool. So you do have like a designated shooting space?
Ish.
That's the whole point of, in my little baby studio apartment, I want to find a way
to separate a section in some way that it's like where I film my tutorials and I can permanently
have it there which kind of feels impossible in a small space like this but I feel like
you can make it so it's possible.
We can do anything.
I hope so!
Well, looking around, I certainly have my work cut out for me.
Yeah, thanks girl.
Thank you for that.
What kind of budget are we working with?
So I think...I want to adult a little bit, like I said, and I think I'm willing to
do a little more than I thought I would just because it's my work space and I really want to
get it right.
So something around $400?
Okay.
Alright.
That is a healthy budget.
Okay good.
We can certainly go along way with that.
Amazing. Thank god.
So we're gonna transform your life.
Yes!
Let's do it! I'm so ready.
Alright, let's go.
Because Deepica works at home, it's really important to her that we build in some more
work-life balance into her actual space.
Now, she is one of the hardest workers I've ever met so this is really important to me
that I get it right.
I've thought a lot about it and this is what I've come up with.
Deepica has that huge white book case but right now the baskets are just a bottomless
pit for makeup.
First, I'm going to take off the side so I can reattach it as a hinged door.
I'm adding velcro to the top corners so they stay up when the bin isn't in use.
The last touch is adding acrylic organizers that are great for makeup because you can
see right through them to the product.
Okay, now things are gonna get a little bit messier.
I'm making custom embossed labels for Deepica's new bins.
I printed out a font I thought Deepica would like and I'm tracing over it with an embossing pen.
The next step is covering the text in gold embossing powder and finally, heating it with
the heat tool.
I'm cutting them down to the perfect size so they fit on the front of the baskets.
I found this great wall-mounted arm that is going to hold Deepica's ring light and camera
for her beauty tutorials.
I'm just doing a quick fix of spray painting base so it blends into the wall nicely.
Two coats and this is good to go.
Alright, now that I have my hacks I'm ready to go move them into Deepica's apartment.
Let's go.
Oh no!
This is not working.
This arm was going to rotate flush against the wall so that she could hide her ring light
right against the wall.
It's not closing flush so that is a big problem.
I need to think about this.
I need to figure out a better solution.
I found a solution.
It's this new arm.
It goes flush against the wall which is exactly what I was looking for but it was double the
price of the other arm so I have to tell Deepica it's really eating into the budget.
But for now, I'm ready to install it.
Is this thing on?
Okay I've officially installed your light.
I'm almost ready to bring you in.
Alright, I'm done.
It's time to go get her.
Can I guide you in?
Yes!
Oh my gosh.
Come with me.
Just like, yeah.
You know you're bookshelf.
I know my bookshelf, okay.
Bookshelf's still there.
Alright, stop right there.
Okay.
When you're ready.
I'm not.
I'm not mentally ready for this.
I'm excited. Okay.
Mentally prepare.
Okay.
And take it off.
Oh my god.
Wait, are you serious right now?
This is crazy!
So wait. Like, that's like permanently gonna be there?
So that is like your studio setup.
All you need to do is press power on your camera and you're ready to make a tutorial.
This is out.
We're kind of in makeup setup right now, right?
Right.
We just slide this away.
Stop it!
Put it over here.
I can even take it a step further.
Like fully make it go down?
Oh yeah baby.
This thing can disappear.
All the way down.
More than half the work was just the setup.
I mean now, matter of seconds.
Oh my gosh.
I've never seen this so clean.
I don't like, understand.
You have your inspiration board that you crafted.
It's beautiful.
There's more.
And then here.
This is your wall of product.
We, you know, we got some glossy gold.
I know!
They look so embellished!
They're embellished, it fits with your metallic, glossiness.
And then inside, you know-
And it just like flaps down?
Totally.
That was so smart.
You can see everything you've got.
Genius. And like the ones that are sets are together!
Not only is this tutorial zone, but this is also storage.
I mean, this is your go-to.
But it's still beautiful enough to where, if it's the backdrop of videos, it's actually
cool.
Like, it's my life.
Multi-purpose.
I actually didn't think this would be possible without living in Los Angeles.
All I really did need was just some dedicated space.
Okay so I have to tell you something.
Oh god.
We talked about budget in the beginning and you gave me a budget of $400.
Yes.
And so I took that and I went to town-
This is...Like, the fact that this could even be $400 makes no sense to me.
Well, okay.
I ran into engineering issue with this amazing light.
Okay…
And basically, this one cost double what I was expecting but it meant so much to me to
get this right for you so I splurged on it, I went for it, and I think you're going
to be happy with it.
I went $67 over budget.
Oh.
I don't even care!
I live in a studio and most people have like full offices and this is my office.
To be able to budget out $450 to create an office space?
It's worth it.
Yeah.
Perfect.
I honestly like, can't thank you enough.
You literally changed my life and you didn't even know it!
Like you really did.
Thank you!
Bea, you just left my apartment and I just had to send this video to tell you, you've
changed my life.
That's me turning on the ring light because I'm going to start filming a video right
now.
I feel so motivated and so excited.
Thank you, thank you again.
You've changed my life.
Thanks for watching.

The Data Center Mural Project: Keeping Cool in Dublin - Duration: 1:46.
My name is Fuchsia and I'm an illustrator based in Dublin.
So, I'm standing in front of the Google data center
and we're going to paint several murals
on the walls here.
It's going to be like really impactful when you come in
and kind of overwhelming as well.
A lot of the work I do is based on things in Dublin,
and Irish things, and with an Irish sense of humor.
My style is kind of tongue in cheek and playful
big, bold shapes of color.
So here, at our Dublin data center,
we cool the data center using nice, fresh, clean Irish air.
We don't use mechanical cooling.
We don't use any chillers, or refrigeration,
or even cooling towers.
It's really unique to our climate.
We have cool conditions year round.
It's the equivalent, if you like, of
if you're driving your car,
rather than turning on the air conditioning,
you open the windows.
It was interesting
how they do, like, really efficiently use
the wind and the climate of Ireland.
That's the thing I wanted to capture
on the outside, on the walls.
Each one is its own narrative
but I think it does quite a good job of representing
the different bits of Dublin City.
All very much Dublin scenes
that are being, kind of, brought to life by the wind.
A good cross section of, like, a day in Dublin.
I want it to be something that's a bit relatable
to people in Ireland in general.
They're what brings the character to it
with a splash of fun and
something that's just silly for the sake of it.

Our First Kiss Stories Are Epic, Awkward, And Plain Ridiculous | Storytime | Refinery29 - Duration: 5:30.
Today we are doing a Storytime video.
Sorry I forgot to say it at the same time as you.
Storytime.
Storytime video.
Hey guys! It's Lucie Fink.
I'm Michael Brown.
Today we're doing Storytime.
Alright, we're back.
We have crowd sourced a whole bunch of Storytime ideas, put them in this vase.
We're going to pick them out and tell stories to each other.
Okay.
First kiss.
Alright I do not want to go first on this one because my first kiss was pretty embarrassing.
I think we should play a game to decide.
Okay, what game?
I want to have a staring contest.
Comment below if Lucie cheats.
Comment below if Michael cheats!
Do you always kiss your pinky promises?
I don't know!
One, two, three.
Oh no I really want to blink already.
Oh, I just blinked!
Yeah!
Boom!
So this isn't my first kiss but it does involve a first kiss.
Kind of.
Okay. I don't know where this is going.
I had just met this guy.
We set up a date, we go to a bar nearby.
I look up and it's this woman Nicole, she's asking the most crazy personal questions but
she's very, very drunk.
Do we work out?
What are our hopes and dreams?
What's the five best qualities from each other?
Do you want me to play the part?
Hi.
I'm the woman.
Oh hi!
I'm Michael.
Um...So maybe you didn't need to do this.
Okay I'm gonna go back to my seat.
And then she goes, "How you guys know each other?"
And I go, "We're on a date."
She goes, "Oh, how long have you been dating?"
I said, "Five minutes."
She touches my arm and she goes, "I would love for you to go talk to my daughter."
What?
Her five year old daughter Sienna…
Five?
Is in this bar.
She grabs me.
I was like looking at my date for help and he was like, "I don't know what to do."
So I go over to this table with this drunk woman Tonya, the drunk husband Solomon, her
five year old daughter who is bawling.
Are you using real names right now?
I feel so bad for this family that's being exposed.
You know what this kid does?
This five year old child?
She crawls into my lap.
She kisses me on the cheek.
Oh!
So like, I find my way out of that.
Was the mom trying to set you up with Sienna?
I don't know!
I think she was looking for someone to babysit her kid!
Her and my date are hitting it off so well.
Is your date not gay?
He is gay!
I make eye contact with him.
I guess he could go both ways.
I don't...Well, that was a conversation we never had.
I look over at him. He just shrugs.
I go back to him and guess what?
I left that date with only a kiss from a five year old!
Ohhh!
So how was that?
That was fine.
I think it was a good story but I think that first kiss should be about your actual first
time kissing another person on the lips.
Whatever.
This isn't a competition.
Comment below, let us know who wins.
No!
Don't make this a competition because she'll always win.
Okay.
First kiss.
I was in seventh grade.
Just a little funny caveat to the story.
Four or five of my best friends all had our first kiss with the same guy in middle school.
He just got all the girls, what can I say?
Some people are like that.
One of the girls in the line up before me was my twin sister.
And if you watch a previous video, her sister also peed on her.
It was a jellyfish sting.
My sister was seeing this guy and I was like, "Oh my god Allie, I like him."
She was like, "You can have him."
What?!
I was like, "Great!"
I was so excited.
We started IMing.
There was a party coming up that weekend and we said, "Let's kiss at the party."
Wait, wait, wait.
You planned your first kiss?
I was so nervous.
We go to the party.
Go behind this kind of like ledge and squat down.
You had a squatting kiss?
Are you reenacting?
We always reenact.
This is Storytime!
I was like this in a dress.
And I was like, "I just have to say, I'm so nervous."
This is it Lucie, you're about to become a woman.
This story's bringing back memories!
I'm like...getting nervous.
He leans in.
Wait for it.
I know what happens!
I peed in my pants.
Ahhh!
That's not what I thought!
Caveat, once again.
It was not a flow.
It was two drops.
A dribble.
So I looked him in the eyes and I said, "I just peed in my pants."
And he was like, "Don't sweat it, it's cool."
The reason that it gets even more embarrassing is that this guy told the whole grade that
I peed in my pants and I was just like, "I'm gonna go home now."
Pee Pee Fink.
- Lucie Pee Fink - Lucie P. Fink.
So what do you think of my story?
I loved your story.
It was very enthralling.
Same and I loved that you used real names.
It really brought me to the bar.
Hey guys, it wasn't a real name.
Don't listen to her.
If I learned anything about Michael today, he doesn't tell the stories that he's
supposed to tell but tells the most recent version.
What I learned from Lucie's story is that she has very poor bladder control.
Bring it in.
Off brand.
Ow!
On brand.
Why don't you tell them what you thought I was going to say?
I thought Lucie was gonna fart.
Because I was squatting?
Yeah!
Just a little phew!
Alright, well, thank you so much for watching our Storytime vlog.
Please comment below letting us know what you want us to see us tell stories of next time

Villandry, France: Château Gardens - Duration: 1:58.
Chateaux all have impressive grounds,
but one is a destination
specifically for its landscaping.
For my favorite gardens in the Loire,
it's gotta be Villandry.
Finished in 1536,
Villandry was the last great Renaissance chateau
built on the Loire.
And all attention here is on its grounds --
arranged in elaborate geometric patterns
and immaculately maintained.
It's a hit with gardeners.
Like so many chateaux around here,
this was the pet project of a fabulously wealthy banker,
Jean le Breton, who worked for the French king,
François I, in the early 1500s.
Well-traveled Jean was inspired by Italian Renaissance gardens.
So, when he built his chateau, he created this.
The 100,000 plants,
half of which come from the family greenhouse,
are replanted twice a year by 10 full-time gardeners.
Posted charts and maps identify everything in English.
The place is lovingly manicured.
Stroll under the grapevine trellis,
through a good-looking salad zone,
and among Anjou pears.
The earliest Loire gardens were practical,
grown in the Middle Ages
by abbey monks who needed vegetables and medicinal herbs.
And those monks liked geometrical patterns.
Later, Italian influence brought decorative ponds,
arbors, and fountains.
And harmonizing all the elements was an innovation
of 16th-century Loire chateaux.
Today's beautiful gardens at Villandry,
a careful reconstruction of what the 1530s original
might have been,
are the result of generations of passionate dedication.

The Data Center Mural Project: A History of Connection - Duration: 2:29.

visual artist, a painter, a printmaker, illustrator for
decades now.
I've been commissioned to create an image for the wall behind me.
I'm responsible for that.
So Gary is, um...
I don't know if I want to call him a technophobe but, you know,
technology is not something he uses on a daily basis.
I'm a pretty handmade kind of artist so
this is like total science fiction for me.
I love the narrative of making pictures.
I like to do people and I like to tell stories.
With this project, I saw an opportunity
to do both of those things.
Council Bluffs became a critical point
of westward expansion following Lewis & Clark.
Within 70 years, America was joined east to west,
through Council Bluffs,
by a rail system and the telegraph
and made Council Bluffs an enduring anchor
of the sharing of information.
This was the data center of 120 years ago.
It was a very intriguing connection to the data
that today passes through Council Bluffs.
I wanted there to be a continuum, a narrative,
that tracks the history of people
disseminating, collecting, sharing data.
Starting with Lewis & Clark and their council
with the native people, the Otoe Tribe.
They were sharing information
and then moving to similar people
working in the data center today.
And in between, we have these elements that will
remind the residents of the region
of their importance in all of this, of them.
It's great to see that happen here,
and to see that continued tradition of
sharing information across the world,
and really enabling people to do things that
they didn't think were possible before.
It's about the people and history and
making it all reflect what happens on that site.

How To Recognize A Heart Attack One Month Before It Happens - Duration: 3:20.
In the United States alone, heart attacks are one of the leading causes of death throughout
the country.
Knowing the signs and symptoms of heart disease and a heart attack can help save a life.
Some of these symptoms begin showing up as early as a month in advance.
Heart attacks are serious medical conditions.
They occur when the body's supply of blood is blocked, normally caused by a blood clot.
These occur when there is plaque build-up in the coronary arteries.
The heart attack is dead tissue that is killed off during the process of blood loss.
This tissue causes extreme pain and squeezing, which are both felt at the time of the heart
attack.
Heart attacks are common in people who have a high amount of stress, who are heavy smokers
or who are morbidly overweight.
However, regardless of the contributing factors, heart attacks are the number one killers of
women across all spectrums.
Therefore, it is important to learn the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, as well as
to receive regular check-ups from a doctor.
Today's video will discuss the warning signs of a heart attack and what to look out for.
1.
Chest pressure
This is the symptom that most people are familiar with.
Most people will feel pressure pushing on their chest.
This is a concrete sign that a heart attack is about to occur.
A lot of people may ignore this pain, thinking that it is a normal feeling.
However, ignoring this sign can cost someone their life.
They should receive immediate medical attention if they are experiencing any hard pressure
on their upper chest.
2.
Cold Sweats and Dizziness
When the body does not circulate blood properly, the brain will not receive the proper amount
of blood.
This is a huge issue and the patient should receive medical attention immediately.
3.
Cold and Flu Symptoms
After a heart attack, many patients report experiencing cold or flu symptoms leading
up to the days prior to the attack.
If these symptoms are felt, the patient should seek medical treatment right away.
4.
Weakness
When the body feels weak, sweaty or nauseous, there may be trouble along the way.
Jaw pain is another alarming sign.
As the arteries in the body continue to narrow, the blood stops flowing throughout the body
properly.
5.
Shortness of Breath
When the body does not receive sufficient blood, the lungs are also negatively affected.
If the lungs do not receive enough blood or oxygen, the body struggles to breathe properly.
If the patient experiences any trouble breathing, they should be seen by a doctor right away
to be checked out.
6.
Fatigue
If someone is feeling drowsy and tired most of the time, it could be caused by an improper
blood flow to the heart.
This could happen as a result of plaque build-up in the arteries.
Again, this should be checked out by a medical professional right away.

M: Absolutely JS: Forever
Isn't that "Never Never"?
I told you it's "don't do it forever"
Isn't that "Never Forever"?
Don't underestimate this guy studies English recently!
Mark, what does "Never Ever" mean?
He doesn't know it either!
You don't know it?
There's just... a word like that
What does it mean?
It's more than "forever"
We're just asking about English...
'Forever' is fore...ver like this
And 'Never Ever' is this much?
What does this mean?
What...? Forever!
Never Ever is just... Never, ever, this much
To be honest we're not the ones who named the song
We didn't name the song
Then who did it?
Park Jin Young PD-nim did. CN: Ah so this is JYP's track?
Us all together. Never Ever.
Originally we were considering if we should use 'JYP' at the front part for the first time
YJ: But then it didn't quite match the song... JS: So BamBam said let's take it out
That's right BamBam said let's take it out
So BamBam said that?
And Park Jinyoung said ok?
I wouldn't know if it was "JYP" (whisper) but then suddenly it came out like "JYP!"
The song has such a different tone... JS: I thought it was really good though
That's what BamBam said
What is the content of the song?
It's "I'll never leave you"
"I was lost, but I will return again, so don't worry"
"I'll never leave you"
This is a continuation
We have Departure, Turbulence, Arrival, like this
And this time, we "have arrived"
As confirmed, I understand Jinyoung's pronunciation well
Can you pronounce it once again?
Then let Mark hyung try the English
An American who can't speak American English
Then shall we listen to the new track "Never Ever"?
Music please
What's my place?
I don't remember
Oh the feeling is different
Oh the feeling is really different
That was my part!
That was my part!
I know~ JS: Just up till there
Ah, yeah that's it
You did well~ JS: I was waiting for it though...
It's good~
The feel of GOT7 was really different
The style of Europe music since last year
I think it was reflected really well. You've made a really good track
Oh it was a reversal?
What rank do you think we'll be?
I think 1st place
On the charts? Yes 1st on the charts
I have a good feeling about it
I know it's gonna be that way Thank you~
Then this time because we have "Random Play Dance", there's a penalty
It's always there though?
Oh we're not that kind of mistreating program
But you did
It's always been like that
Did we hit you with the air hammer a lot?
No with hands
Oh we hit you with hands?
Who? Who? Hyungs...
That butt slapping was from Yugyeom!
The butt slapping from that time was all Yugyeom!
Why are you saying things that weren't there?
But don't you hyungs also talk about things that weren't there a lot on broadcast?
We're sorry
What do we do about the broadcast without the untrue stories then?
How can we talk about true stories on broadcast?
You're right
You're right
We'll disclose the penalties now
Ah... really... Please...

Potter sequence (oligohydramnios) - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 3:39.
Potter sequence is a rare disorder that is sometimes called oligohydramnios sequence—a
term that helps define it because oligo- means low and -hydramnios means amniotic fluid.
So in Potter sequence there's basically very little amniotic fluid and this makes
the uterus a pretty hostile place for the fetus to grow.
Typically, around the 20th week of gestation, the kidneys, ureters, and urethra develop
and start producing and excreting urine, and this urine becomes the major source of amniotic
fluid.
Various conditions like renal agenesis, which is when one or both kidneys are missing, or
atresia of the ureter or urethra, which is where those parts of the urinary tract are
obstructed, can lead to an inability to produce or excrete urine and therefore leads to oligohydramnios.
Other common causes can include amniotic rupture, which is the leakage of amniotic fluid, or
uteroplacental insufficiency, which is where there's low blood flow from the placenta
meaning the fetal organs—which includes the fetal kidneys—see less blood flow, which
in turn leads to decreased urine production.
When there's very little amniotic fluid, a couple of things happen as a result.
First, amniotic fluid is crucial for the development of the fetal lungs, by both helping the airways
physically stretch out as well as contributing amino acids like proline, which helps with
the formation of connective tissue and collagen in the lung.
With less amniotic fluid, though, there's pulmonary hypoplasia.
Hypo meaning under, and -plasia means formation, so the lungs basically remain underdeveloped.
Not only that though, with less amniotic fluid, there's less space in the amniotic sac,
and so the fetus is literally compressed into a smaller space, which causes developmental
abnormalities like a flattened face, wrinkly skin, widely separated eyes with epicanthal
folds, low-set ears, as well as limb abnormalities like clubbed feet.
Potter sequence usually affects boys, since they have a higher rate of urinary tract obstruction
anomalies, like posterior urethral valves.
Diagnosis of Potter sequence is usually done with ultrasound during the second trimester
of pregnancy.
Unfortunately, though, by the time this condition is diagnosed, the syndrome is usually very
advanced and most cases result in a stillbirth, which is the delivery of a fetus that has
already died.
When babies do survive, the pulmonary hypoplasia leads to severe respiratory problems which
often leads to death shortly after birth.
Alright, as a quick recap, Potter sequence, is an often fatal condition that primarily
affects newborn males, and it's caused by oligohydramnios, which is low or absent amniotic
fluid.
Potter itself is actually a mnemonic, and it stands for Pulmonary hypoplasia, Oligohydramnios,
Twisted skin, for the wrinkles, Twisted face, Extremity deformities, and Renal agenesis.

NEUROSCIENCE + BUDDHISM UNCOVERS HOW MINDFULNESS & OPEN FOCUS CAN DRASTICALLY CHANGE
YOUR LIFE
by DR.
TOMASZ KOPEC
Mindfulness is defined as an attention training which can benefit health and general well-being.
There is a lot scientific research confirming it.
In this article we will present the other type of attention training called Open Focus.
We believe, combining these two approaches may help to understand attention training
better and to experience its benefits faster.
What Is Mindfulness?
In its most basic form, Mindfulness means to pay attention to whats happening, on
purpose, in the present moment, and to do so without judgement.
Originally from Buddhist roots, it was introduced into the West by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zin and the
University of Massachusetts.
Since its appearance in the West around twenty years ago, many people have participated in
the Mindfulness based stress reduction course and similar programs.
Research shows that participants may experience profound benefits such as reduced stress,
a greater sense of well-being, increased clarity and focus, and improved sleeping patterns.
According to Dr. Kabat-Zin, by paying attention in a certain way, we can switch off our so-called
autopilot mode, in which we often go through life unaware of whats happening within
and around us.
Living on autopilot not only means that we miss out on a lot of the richness of life,
but we are also more likely to be stressed.
Stress and autopilot are linked because when we are on autopilot, we are much more likely
to act out unhelpful or even damaging patterns of behaviour.
In other words, we react instead of respond to challenging experiences in our life.
Mindfulness helps us to become aware of these habitual patterns and gives us a choice to
change how we relate to challenging experiences.
Its not about taking stress away or hoping to live a life without any stress, but rather
fundamentally changing how we relate to the things we experience.
On the other hand, many of us spend much of our time living in our heads.
We live in a kind of virtual reality consisting of thoughts and inner dialogue, and thoughts
tend to relate either to the past or to the future.
Mindfulness helps us to learn how to return to the present and to whats actually happening
rather than our perceptions of whats happening, which are often inaccurate.
We practice it by cultivating greater somatic awareness that is, awareness of the body,
because the body is always in the present moment.
Ultimately, the more we practice Mindfulness and observe the changing nature of experience,
the more we may begin to sense that what we previously thought of as being tangible and
solid, such as our sense of self, is actually quite transitory and ephemeral.
We may begin to understand what lies beyond objects arising in awareness such as sensations,
thoughts, and emotions.
We may begin to experience awareness itself.
This is an extremely significant moment in practice and in life, when we start to experience
ourselves as something greater than what we observe and our sense of being the observer.
In Mindfulness, attention generaly focuses on one object (such as the breath, sensations
in the body, thoughts, or emotions), exploring it with a sense of curiosity and interest.
Another way Mindfulness can be practiced is through Open Monitoring or Open Awareness,
where no particular object of experience is selected and there is an openness to all that
is unfolding within awareness.
Here too, however, as various objects pass through awareness, attention is often paid
to each object in a narrowly focused wa
What Is Open Focus?
Open Focus is the name of an attention training program created by Dr. Lester Fehmi, a neuroscientist
and psychologist from Princeton University.
Dr. Fehmi found that once our whole brain activity becomes more synchronous in alpha
frequency, our mental and physical health improves.
He created a series of mind exercises that help to cultivate this brainwave pattern,
and he designed a neurofeedback EEG machine that can detect it.
On the basis of his findings, Dr. Fehmi developed The Four Attention Styles theory, which describes
four different ways we can pay attention, and relates these styles to brain physiology.
According to Dr Fehmi, pain, stress, anxiety, and other challenges make our attention narrow
and objective.
It is natural to narrow our attention (focus) on pain or a problem in order to deal with
it efficiently, but most people overuse this style in everyday life.
They are unaware that it keeps them in continuous fight or flight mode (see this post).
Moreover, habitual focusing creates an impression that the reality consists of separated objects,
since we can focus on only one thing at a time, leaving the rest outside of our focus.
It can make us feel distant, alienated, and lonely.
Dr. Fehmi says we can begin relating to whats difficult in a more balanced, accepting way
by diffusing our attention.
Diffusing allows us to see the big picture and connect (immerse) with its elements.
It helps to realign with the world and to create healthy relationships.
This style is linked to the rest and digest part of our physiology and makes the whole
brain activity more synchronous in alpha frequency, which can be confirmed by Dr. Fehmis machine
(see graph below).
Untitled 2
Dr. Fehmi suggests everyones attention should be flexible, meaning that you can alternate
between narrow and objective and diffused and immersed styles of attention or balance
all at the same time.
Dr. Fehmi says that the way we pay attention is directly linked to our well-being.
Once you are able to balance your attention, you can positively influence your mind and
body.
During Open Focus training, we practice diffusing by becoming simultaneously aware of many objects.
The object can be everything you can focus on, like a physical object, a sound, a taste,
a thought, a feeling, a sensation from the body, etc.
Then you can progress to awareness of the space between objects, like the space between
physical objects, the silence between sounds, or the breaks between thoughts, etc.
Finally, you become aware of space between and inside objects which, according to Dr.
Fehmi, helps us achieve diffused and immersed style.
In this style of attending, all objects (including yourself) dissolve in space and you immerse
with reality, becoming fully connected.
Are Mindfulness and Open Focus Complementary?
Open Focus and Mindfulness are not distinct and competing practices but rather highly
complementary.
Mindfulness helps us to learn to pay attention to our experience and to notice how we are
relating to it.
Open Focus then builds upon the benefits and skills of Mindfulness by training us not just
to pay attention, but to be more aware of how we are paying attention and to be more
flexible in our attention styles.
We then have the benefits of two complementary practices available to us: learning to pay
attention and being flexible in how we pay attention.
We could say that Mindfulness is an excellent foundation for Open Focus training and that
Open Focus helps us to get the most from Mindfulness training.
What Can Open Focus Offer Mindfulness?
As mentioned, much Mindfulness practice is based on a narrow way of paying attention
(that is, we are focused on one object).
Although it is useful in helping us to be more aware of what is happening in the moment,
overusing this style may lead to tightness and overexertion in unexperienced practitioners,
since many people think they have a choice of staying watchful (mindful) of what is happening,
or they slip into daydreaming.
They keep trying harder and it makes them exhausted and it sometimes leads to frustration
and disappointment.
We therefore propose that Open Focus can bring to Mindfulness the idea of paying attention
in the diffused style and the concept of attention flexibility.
Mindfulness practitioners who learn how to diffuse their attention may find that it helps
them to progress.
There are several reason for this.
The diffused attention style tends to quickly quiet internal chatter.
For example, it is sometimes enough to become aware of sensations coming from both hands
and at the same time to sense peace and calmness of the mind.
It is because synchronous alpha brain waves play a top-down inhibitory role in the brain
network.
The quiet mind makes observing without judgment much easier.
In diffused attention style, you do not redirect your attention from one object to another,
but rather redistribute it between many objects, which are attended at the same time.
The only way to do it is to attend objects in a very soft (less rigid, relaxed) way.
This skill can then be used in everyday life.
For example, you can stay continuously aware of breathing while listening to someone talking
to you and there is no struggle between competing objects in your awareness.
It helps to continuously sense the present moment and it has very practical applications
(see this post).
It is important to note that in this style, one of the objects you pay attention to could
be your daydreaming.
Including daydreaming into the diffused attention helps to reduce struggle with it during practice.
It is possible (and quite easy) to accept daydreaming as one of many objects you pay
attention to (see this post).
It can be easily extended to everyday life and it helps to stay present.
In order to become fully aware of the world, it can be helpful to cultivate a more diffused
than focused attention style.
Focused attention requires one to cut off a lot of what is really happening around us
and it restricts experience to a narrow stream of sensations.
In the diffused attention style, you are aware of the object and its background (see this
post).
This may broaden the perspective, helping to put things into context.
It may also help to disable an autopilot and develop ones ability to respond as opposite
to reacting.
As mentioned previously, Open Focus exercises cultivate an awareness of space around and
inside objects.
Once a practitioner is aware of space inside the object, it may become softer, lighter,
and easier to be with and observe (for example when we attend an unwanted emotion).
By switching to a diffused attention style, the difficulty may be diluted by a broader
spectrum of attention.
This could be likened to putting a teaspoon of salt in an egg cup filled with water and
tasting it the water would taste very salty.
If the same teaspoon of salt were put in a swimming pool, it would be difficult to taste
the salt.
Mindfulness enables us to be aware that there is salt in the water, but Open Focus allows
us to experience the salt in the context of the swimming pool rather than the egg cup!
The diffused and immersed attention style helps to dissolve objects like pain or unwanted
feelings.
Mindfulness practitioners are sometimes encouraged to bring attention to an ache in the back
and to observe how this ache feels, exploring how it would be to allow the ache to be there.
In Open Focus, they might feel the ache but at the same time feel the space around and
in the ache together with the space in the room.
In addition, they might imagine that we are part of the ache itself, allowing themselves
to become immersed in the ache.
This sometimes makes the pain or feeling softer, blurred with its background, and then it may
naturally and effortlessly dissolve.
The dissolving pain and unwanted feelings process is well documented in Dr Fehmis
book.
Conclusion
Mindfulness teaches us to pay attention to our experiences so that we can interrupt habitual
patterns of relating to ourselves and the world that may not be helpful for us.
Open Focus enhances Mindfulness practice by teaching us not just to pay attention, but
to bring more awareness to how we are paying attention.
As this article has demonstrated, these are two highly complementary and mutually reinforcing
practices.
Ultimately, with both we can learn to be present and be flexible in how we are present, after
which we may uncover an unlimited sense of peace and love that lies beneath the noise
that we are usually confronted with and try to suppress.
In scientific terms, this may be regarded as homeostasis; in more spiritual language,
this may be regarded as revealing our true nature or higher self.
These practices may lead us to fulfil our personal and evolutionary potential and to
live lives with grace and ease.
How You Can Try Mindfulness and Open Focus
We could write a lot but more about Mindfulness and Open Focus, but the best way to know them
is to feel them!
You can try some good Mindfulness exercises here: Breathing Into Being, Taking In The
Good, Self Compassion.
There is a choice of Open Focus exercises on Dr Fehmis and Tomaszs website (the
main difference is that most of Tomaszs exercises are shorter and they are designed
to introduce diffusing and to bring a quick and noticeable experience).

This robot makes money on Egg, Inc., but only when I'm being productive - Duration: 1:27.
I wonder how many things
I could be doing if I wasn't playing this chicken game.
Like, I have a lot of work to do right now.
Egg, Inc. is a game where you hatch special chickens to lay magic eggs
that you can ship off to consumers for bizarrely high profits.
A big part of the game is tapping a button to send chickens running from your hatcheries to your coops.
If you don't want to tap the button, you can build a robot to tap the button for you,
which I'll show you how to do later
The physics of the running chickens are one of the most fun parts of the game,
and the more chickens you have on the screen, the more money you make.
It's really easy to distinguish between no extra profit and a lot of profit by looking at
how many chickens are currently on the screen.
Easily interpreted interfaces like this make for great glanceability.
Glanceable interfaces give us an immediate sense of a more specific number, and
they can sit unobtrusively in the background while we do other stuff.
In the game, the chickens represent fake profit and fake productivity
and we have to tap the button all the time.
But I wanted them to represent real profit and real productivity,
and I don't want to have to tap the button
Thanks to the magic of Particle and Google Chrome, the chickens only run when I'm on "productive" tabs like my to-do list or the the Particle IDE.
If I go to reddit or netflix, no chickens.
I even airplayed my game to the apple TV upstairs so I could work and watch my productivity on the big screen.

Boney M - Rasputin (DOPEDROP Bootleg) (Bass Boosted) - Duration: 5:08.
There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow
Most people looked at him with terror and with fear
But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear
He could preach the bible like a preacher
Full of ecstacy and fire
But he also was the kind of teacher, Women would desire
RA RA RASPUTIN Lover of the Russian queen There was a cat that really was gone
RA RA RASPUTIN Russia's greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on

RA RA RASPUTIN Russia's greatest love machine It was a shame how he carried on
He ruled the Russian land and never mind the Czar But the kasachok he danced really wunderbar
In all affairs of state he was the man to please But he was real great when he had a girl to squeeze
For the queen he was no wheeler dealer Though she'd heard the things he'd done
She believed he was a holy healer Who would heal her son
