Welcome everyone! My name is Sven Dannenmann
and my colleague, Peter Strobach, and I
are at the Caravan Show in Düsseldorf.
There's lots of building work going on around us.
Before it officially starts tomorrow, we're going to take you
on a tour of the Mercedes-Benz show stand
and give you an exclusive preview of what's new.
Let's start with Peter,
who is going to talk you through our current vehicles – available here and now
before I then take you on a trip into the future.

Camping is in!
Motorhome holidays are more popular than ever - among luxury lovers,
city hoppers and outdoor enthusiasts, families, couples and singles.
Mercedes-Benz Vans is heavily involved in the camper van segment
with its own Marco Polo camper van and through the bodybuilder business.
The current generation of our Marco Polo has been on the market since 2015
and highly successful it is, too!
There are now 3 models in the Marco Polo range and it's available not just in Europe, but in Japan and in Australia, too.
On show on our stand is the Marco Polo camper van.
It has everything a travel companion needs … things like,
rotating driver and passenger seats,
a complete kitchenette, a row of seats that can be folded flat for sleeping
and a pop-up roof.
It also offers a modern design and comfort -
– a true Mercedes.
But as I said, besides the Marco Polo range,
we're also active in the bodybuilder sector and offer a wide range of base vehicles.
They include our pick-up, the X-Class,
available since the
Camper vans based on pick-ups
are a niche right now with a whole lot to offer
in off-road adventure.
Not only is the X-Class perfect for long journeys,
it's also great off-road, with rear-wheel drive or, of course,
all-wheel drive. It can ford depths of up to 600 mm
and has a ground clearance of up to 222 mm.
And those are just a few of our off-road talents offered by our X-Class.
Bodybuilders offer all sorts of sleeping options
to arm the X-Class for living in the wild.
There are things like demountable cabins and roof tents.
Here we have a roof tent by Movera.
Such as this kitchenette by VanEssa.
There are also a number of cooking options,
You just pull it out. It has a sink a cool box and, a cooker.
There is also space for food and dishes.
The second pull-out is free to use as you wish.
Returning to the mainstream, we are, of course, also showing our workhorse
the new Sprinter.
We unveiled the new generation in February this year.
We've configured the new Sprinter for the motorhome segment
more specifically than ever before.
One highlight, on show here
is the new tractor head which has everything you need for driving located
in front of the B-pillar.
This means bodybuilders,
such as HYMER here, now have all kinds of new options
for designing the motorhome body.
A whole new dimension of freedom and diversity.
HYMER's new B-Class ModernComfort is the first camper van
based on our tractor head.
Here in the semi-integrated motor home.
and HYMER SLC chassis delivers an exceptionally
lightweight and robust body.
Let's take a quick look inside for even more innovations.
The new Sprinter comes with
carefully thought-through features ideally suited to camper vans,
such as the electric parking brake.
It means no handbrake lever and clears the way for easy access to the rear
And the floor is flat, too.
In terms of safety,
camper vans based on the Sprinter are on par with a passenger car.
The B-MC T here has features such as Active Brake Assist
and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC.
But HYMER is not the only manufacturer
to have recognised the benefits of our new Sprinter.
Here on the stand, we also have the Regent S from La Strada, based on the panel van
rear-wheel drive.
And it shows that the new Sprinter
feels like a car not only on the road but also in the cockpit.
As you can see –
we've also applied our Mercedes design language in the cockpit.
And not only that. Bodybuilders also have access
to our latest generation of infotainment features, which make long drives
to holiday destinations so much more pleasant.
After the A-Class, the Sprinter is the second Mercedes to feature
our MBUX multimedia system – the Mercedes-Benz User Experience.
Sven, what does the future hold for camper vans?

Follow me,
because our tour of the Mercedes-Benz show stand isn't over yet. We would like to
continue expanding our presence in the camper van segment and position ourselves
even more forcefully as an innovation driver.
That's why we are already working on the future
and presenting it to you here on our show stand.
The importance of sustainability and environmental compatibility continues to intensify
– in the camper van segment, too.
What we're showing here is that a zero-emissions drive for motorhomes is possible
– with our concept vehicle, the "Concept Sprinter F-CELL".
Zero emissions and
virtually noiseless, this vehicle with fuel cell drive
can cover long distances of up to 500 km.
And it can be "filled" with electricity as well as hydrogen, increasing its range
by another 30 kilometres.
What you see here
in the substructure are three hydrogen tanks capable of storing a total of 4.5 kilograms of hydrogen.
If you need more range for a specific purpose,
another tank can be fitted at the rear.
And over on the left-hand side is the battery.
A further benefit
is that the fuel cell can function as a powerful, standalone energy source
for the living quarters
– for things like the heating, air conditioning or fridge.
This is especially good for camping in the wild
as there is no need for an external electricity supply.
But we're not just thinking about future powertrain models.
We also have our eye on other trends – including one that
will make camping even more comfortable.
This trend is called "smart home".
Imagine you can check and control
all your camper van's functions centrally – easily and conveniently,
instead trailing around the living quarters.
We have developed Mercedes-Benz Advanced Control,
known as MBAC for short, to meet this need.
It's an interface module that removes the separation
between the base vehicle and the living area. It networks
the components in front of and behind the B-pillar and allows them to be operated
from a central location, such as a display in the vehicle or a smartphone app.
To show you this technology, we have another
concept vehicle here for you the Concept Marco Polo.
Here, you can use the app to set the temperature in the vehicle.
You can also check the fresh and waste-water tanks
or open and close the pop-up roof.
But that's far from all. Watch this...
"Hey Mercedes,
I want to go to sleep."
As you can see, our concept vehicle
has intelligent voice control. Just as innovative on our concept vehicle
is the environmentally friendly electricity supply from the solar module
with 400-Watt output.
You could charge an e-bike with that.
The basis for the concept vehicle
is the new MBAC interface module from Mercedes-Benz Vans.
And the best thing is that this future isn't far away. The MBAC interface module
will be available in the new Sprinter in 2019.
That means bodybuilders working with our Sprinter will soon be able
to intelligently network their camper van components and thus offer their customers
a smart home on wheels.
Our "Sprinter Connected Home"
shows exactly what bodybuilders will be able to do as of 2019
Similar to the "Concept Marco Polo",
users can check and control the status of camper van components
via our MBUX,
a separate display in the living area
or a smartphone app.
Let's take a closer look.
It's really easy to access the control module for the living area by swiping up
on the MBUX home screen.
Here on the screen. it's easy and convenient for me to see
which components I can check and control.
Here, I can look at the fill status of the fresh-water tank
or open the drain valve for the waste water.
I can also adjust the lighting in the living area.
Now I'm changing the lighting from blue
to green.
At some point, I'll have to switch off all the lights in the camper van.
And that's also easy to do via the control unit.
As you can see, Mercedes-Benz Vans has its eyes
firmly set on the future of the camper van segment and will play an active role in shaping it.
