Youtube daily report Aug 2 2018

With 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi gave us something completely different

from the previous two Thor films, showing us places and characters unlike anything else

in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The fantastic visuals and rapid-fire jokes were enough to dazzle movie fans of any age.

But while kids might be satisfied with spectacle, once older viewers really start thinking about

the movie, there are more questions than answers - especially once you factor in the events

of Avengers: Infinity War.

Here's a spoiler-filled look at some Thor: Ragnarok details that only adults notice.

Odin stinks at hiding things

The key villain for most of Ragnarok is Hela, the Goddess of Death who also happens to be

Thor and Loki's older sister, and the oldest child of Odin.

Hela, it turns out, was banished by Odin, hidden away in a secret prison until his death

abruptly frees her.

Suddenly, the secret ain't so secret, which is actually a recurring problem for Odin throughout

the Thor franchise, as the All-Father is apparently really bad at hiding things.

In the first film, it was the secret of Loki's Frost Giant birth.

In the second, it turns out there was a secret portal out of Asgard.

Now here comes a daughter that he apparently never told his sons about.

And in all three cases, once the secret got out, people got killed.

If Odin were a little better at hiding these things, Asgard might still exist today.

Where is Sif?

Both of Thor's leading ladies from the previous films are suddenly and mysteriously missing

in Thor: Ragnarok.

Jane Foster's absence is explained with a single throwaway line saying she and Thor

broke up.

That's a pretty casual dismissal for a star as big as Natalie Portman, but it's nothing

compared to what Jaimie Alexander's Lady Sif gets - which is, in fact, literally nothing.

Aside from an actress playing her in the drama Loki stages commemorating his own death, Sif

isn't even mentioned in Ragnarok.

In the real world, Alexander apparently had a scheduling conflict, but in Ragnarok, she

just vanishes and nobody really seems to give a crap.

Marvel later piled on even more, with Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo

revealing she died offscreen in Infinity War.

Seriously, guys?

Who is on Doctor Strange's watch list?

Though the film spends less time on Earth than either previous Thor adventure, Ragnarok

does depict Thor and Loki's unexpected encounter with Doctor Strange, who traps Loki in a pocket

dimension while he has a chat with Thor about why they've come to Earth.

"I keep a watch list of individuals and beings from other realms that may be a threat to

this world.

Your adopted brother Loki is one of those beings"

It's a fun scene, but it makes you wonder: who else is on that watch list?

Is Doctor Strange the Marvel equivalent of the TSA?

We have a feeling we haven't seen the last of this mysterious watch list of his.

Thor: god of… nothing?

In addition to extreme strength, durability and a lifespan much longer than that of a

human, Thor is the God of Thunder, which is a key plot point in Ragnarok.

"Are you Thor, The God of Hammers?"

"That hammer is to help you control your power, to focus it.

It was never your source of strength"

So if his body is naturally gifted with the power to channel lightning, why is he so vulnerable

to shocks?

He gets shocked by a net thrown on him by scavengers when he first arrives on Sakaar,

and then is repeatedly zapped by the neck implant placed on him by Valkyrie after she

captures him.

Maybe those don't run on normal electricity or something, but it's weird to see him get

shocked in one scene and then pull a lightning storm out of the sky in another.

Valkyrie has a drinking problem

The first time we meet Valkyrie, she falls off her ship after taking a big drink.

The moment is played for laughs, as are other moments involving Valkyrie and alcohol, but

as the story plays out we find she is using alcohol to block traumatic memories of her

friends being slaughtered by Hela.

Though her addiction is mostly played for laughs, when viewed as a whole, Ragnarok actually

presents a tragic view of a woman trying to drink herself into oblivion.

Where is Asgard exactly?

In the first Thor film, the Bifrost is the only way to get to and from Asgard, which

is why it's such a tragedy when it is destroyed.

In the second movie, though, we learn there are actually secret portals that sometimes

allow travel to and from Asgard as well.

Okay, fine.

In Ragnarok, though, all bets are off, as people seem to be able to come and go at will,

simply flying spaceships to and from Asgard.

Apparently, the rules for traveling to Asgard work however the plot needs them to at any

given moment, as seemingly anyone can just drive there if they want.

So… road trip, anyone?

Infinity what now?

Speaking of all those Asgardians on that spaceship, Avengers: Infinity War begins shortly after

Ragnarok left off, with the Asgardian refugee ship destroyed by Thanos.

In the carnage, we see the loss of numerous Asgardians, but we don't know anything about

what happened to Valkyrie or Korg.

In a Q&A at an Iowa high school of all places, though, Infinity War co-director Joe Russo

revealed that Valkyrie survived, along with half the Asgardians.

So where are they?

Well, one clue might be hiding in plain sight at the end of Ragnarok, as the Grandmaster's

pleasure cruise vessel, battered but still recognizable, can be seen parked on top of

the larger refugee ship.

It's not big enough to hold everyone, but Valkyrie could certainly fit - and maybe even

have room to bring Korg with her.

Here's hoping!

Top 10 Cream The Rabbit & Cheese Surprising Facts - Duration: 7:24.

Cream the Rabbit is a Sonic character that often gets a lot of criticism - whether it's

because of her behaviour, her literally cheesy name with her Chao sidekick Cheese, or because

of her voice.

Often, she has an incredibly high pitched squeak when she speaks, and tends to have

a habit of crying a lot.

That being said, the pair still have a pretty large fan base, and loyal players who are

always jazzed to see when they're included in a game.

First appearing in Sonic Advance 2, the duo would quickly become reoccurring characters,

and have amassed a bit of an interesting history over the years.

So today, we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Cream the Rabbit and Cheese

Surprising Facts.

We'll be primarily focusing on Cream for this list since the character has a more expansive

history than her Chao sidekick, but fear not!

Cheese will get some loving too.

With that in mind, let's jump in!

10 A Fox Initially, Cream was conceived to be a Fox

character rather than a rabbit.

The prototype artwork of the character depicts her as a fox not dissimilar to Tails, but

with pigtails and a bow.

Another initial sketch looks quite like a squirrel, but inevitably, Sega ended up going

with a rabbit instead.

Speaking her origins, Cream's name was intended to be a pun of two foods according to Yuji

Naka, if that wasn't already obvious - Vanilla Cream, in association with her mother Vanilla

the Rabbit, and Cream Cheese with Cheese the Chao.

9 Cheese's Origins How about Cheese's origins though?

According to Sega, the character was initially designed to be a playable one for beginner

players.

But instead, this was changed to Cream getting the Chao as her constant sidekick in order

to give her an offensive maneuver.

This choice was made because Sega thought that if she had a different kind of attack,

it was damage Cream's image as a 'sweet girl' if she were to strike enemies herself.

There are only there games where Cream is not with Cheese - Sonic Adventure DX Directors

Cut, Sonic Free Riders and Shadow the Hedgehog.

8 Amy's Sidekick What Tails is to Sonic, Cream is to Amy Rose.

Amy often fills a big sister role to Cream, and they've worked together many a time.

Along with Big the Cat, the two of them are on Team Rose in Sonic Heroes.

The two often look out for each other in the other games in the franchise, and interact

often in cutscenes, with Amy Rose constantly looking out for her younger pal.

In Sonic Advance 3, they make up Team Jubilee.

And if you're the type whose craving some Amy/Cream platform action, there's plenty

of mods that have been crafted for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that replace Sonic and Tails for

Amy and Cream, which is pretty darn cool.

7 Her Family Cream was the very first character in the

Sonic franchise to have been noted to have a known parent.

Her mother is Vanilla the Rabbit, who also made her debut in Sonic Advance 2.

She's kidnapped alongside Cream and Cheese by Dr Eggman, and once Sonic saves Cream and

Cheese, they seek out Vanilla, who tends to have a habit of getting kidnapped by the mad

scientist - she's kidnapped twice in the game.

Her later appearances are more cameo-esque, popping up during parts of Cream's narratives,

or interacting briefly with Sonic, typically about Cream's whereabouts.

Parents in general aren't overly common in the franchise's games, although a few

characters do bring it up, including Tikal (another character whose parent is actually

known as a character rather than just being mentioned in a throwaway line of dialogue).

6 Her Age If Cream is always getting a lot of heat for

being a character that has such a high pitched voice and cries quite often, you'd think

that Sega would revise their approach on her, no?

Well, there's a very valid reason as to why they haven't - it's because Cream

is a child.

When we are first introduced to her in Sonic Advance 2, Cream is 6 years old.

5 Shipping Now that you all know Cream's age, it's

time to weird you the F out by talking about all of the ships that fans of the series have

dreamed up for the young rabbit character.

While initially that doesn't sound bad - really, what could be wrong about her and Tails being

an adorable little couple together?

- consider one ship that gets more interest than it should - Cream and Doctor Ivo Eggman

Robotnik.

Yes, a grown ass man with a walrus moustache.

The villain seems a whole lot more pervy now, doesn't he?

Cheese also has it's own ships, too, weirdly enough.

ChaoShipping is the ship namer Cream and Cheese, TripleDesertShipping is between Cream, Cheese

and Chocola, and Sweets Buffet Shipping is Vanilla, Cream, Cheese and Chocola - here's

hoping all of these are just platonic family ships, though.

4 Sonic Advance Cream and Cheese are never characters you'd

imagine as being a top pick for when it comes to fighting bosses in the Sonic games.

But, turns out there's one series where the duo are a stellar choice - Sonic Advance.

This is because Cream's flight abilities allows players to better avoid the attacks

of the bosses in that series, and that you can throw Cheese at a boss without even moving,

which can result in an easy way to avoid taking any damage at all.

How sneaky.

3 McDonald's McDoanld's has always embraced pop culture

hits when it comes to Happy Meals.

Most major kid-adored franchises have had done their time as happy meal toys in the

past, and of course, you can bet that that includes our favourite blue hedgehog.

There's been some pretty cool Sonic themed merch over the years, from toys released for

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 1994, to handheld LCD games in 2003 and 2004 in celebration

of Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut, Sonic X, and Sonic Heroes.

Cream has appeared in a few of the commercials promoting these Happy Meals, including the

notoriously bad one from Pakistan - where all of the characters do NOT look like the

characters.

But aside from that, she did get a starring role in another McDonald's ad alongside

Sonic and two very enthused kids for the 2004 Sonic Heroes happy meal toys.

2 Sonic Jump Cream's jam is primarily cameos - she's

only appeared in three main series console games over the years.

She's even been cut from games in the past, too.

This includes Sonic Jump - the 2012 mobile game that Sega released that recently became

available as a Facebook game.

It earned a hefty amount of controversy when it was unearthed that the game was collecting

data it shouldn't of been.

Classic Sega.

Anywho, in a more positive reveal, turns out Cream, along with Shadow and Vector, were

supposed to be included in the app version, but were never released since Sega decided

to stop updating the app.

Despite it being on Facebook, it was announced that there were no plans to add more characters

to the game.

Cheese would have followed Cream around in the game, collecting rings for her.

Side note, based on these assets, when she curls up, it appears that she has two sets

of ears.

1 Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut Sonic games have a history of slipping in

little Easter eggs of their characters from time to time.

Most notably perhaps is the inclusion of Big the Cat running through the cut scenes of

Sonic Adventure 2, resulting in some pretty comical reactions from players.

Turns out Cream has her own little cameos in another Sonic game - SonicAdventure DX:

Director's Cut.

While they aren't as hilarious or awkward as Big's cameos, Cream appears in the GameCube

and PC version of the game - and also the Xbox 360 and PS3 version Sonic Adventure,

too.

You can spot her at various points flying around Station Square, near the station itself

and Twinkle Park, and the area surrounding Casinopolis.

This, minus her trophy cameo in Super Smash Bros Brawl, is the only smaller size cameo

where she just appears rather than being an unlock able playable character, like in Sonic

Riders.

There we have it friends!

How do you feel about Cream and Cheese?

Do you dislike them, like a lot of other sonic fans?

Or do you think they get a lot of unnecessary criticism, and people should be a little kinder?

What Happens When You Get Knocked Out? - Duration: 4:02.

One second you're there, the next you're not.

Rendered unconscious, on the floor, your world has turned to black.

It could be for a matter of seconds, minutes, hours, or worse.

Today we'll investigate how and why, in this episode of the Infographics Show, What

Happens When You Get Knocked Out?

When we say "knocked-out" we're talking about loss of consciousness as a result of

a blunt force trauma to the head.

So, what happens?

If we look at the word "concussion", also referred to as a "mild traumatic brain injury,"

we know it comes from the Latin "shake violently."

And that's what happens to your brain when you get knocked out; it does a jiggle in your

skull.

This may not always result in loss of consciousness, but today we are talking about just that:

knocked out cold.

Inside our tough skulls is our very soft, ultra-sensitive brain, which is layered with

arteries, veins, and nerves.

It's not only protected by the skull, but something called cerebrospinal fluid that

stops the brain from hitting the skull.

If you get hit hard enough, this fluid cannot fully protect the brain from impact with its

protective cranium.

When it does hit, it is called trauma.

You have trauma on one side, which bruises the brain, and possibly on the other side,

when the brain bounces back.

Your brain might also twist in your skull.

All this trauma damages the brain's cells and also leads to neurotransmitters firing

rapidly, overloading the nervous system, which can result in a kind of paralysis, or shutdown…

and then it's lights out, as they say.

By the way, getting hit hard on the chin or jaw sometimes causes intense rotational force

in the brain, and this is why boxers often go for those areas to get their knockout.

Experts say for most people, this will last a few seconds to a few minutes, and we should

recover without sustaining a bad injury to the brain.

But if you are unlucky, your knockout might lead to cerebral bleeding and even death.

How much force does it take to get knocked out?

There is no exact science, but the bigger the force, the more chance there is of a knockout

happening.

You can see that in boxing.

There are more knockouts in the heavier weight categories.

A flyweight might punch with a force of 750 pounds, but a heavyweight may punch at well

over 1,000 pounds of force.

But as you may have seen on any of those "guy gets owned" videos circulating the web,

you don't need massive punching power to knock someone out.

It's not only about how much weight is behind the punch, but also the momentum of the punch,

and the speed the fist or other body part is moving at.

(It's said Connor McGregor's running punch has about 932 pounds of force).

If the person being hit can't see it coming, this will also have more impact and there

is more chance of a knockout.

That's because our muscles tense in a way to take the blow when we see it coming.

For instance, self-defense expert James LaFond studied 1,675 acts of violence.

According to him, a sucker punch by a boxer on a civilian's jaw or chin will 100 percent

of the time lead to a knockout.

Being hit behind the ears and at the back of the head can also easily lead to being

knocked out.

The CDC studied traumatic brain injuries from 2007-2013 in the United States (there is no

updated study) and found that 2.8 million Americans visited the Emergency room, were

hospitalized, or died, as a result of head trauma in 2013.

Most of the instances were old people falling, but second was being struck by or against

something.

50,000 people died that year of head trauma.

Nonetheless, it's said that around 80 percent of head traumas are mild.

Some people just get right back up after being knocked out, and seem to have no underlying

problems.

Others may be confused, and later suffer from headaches, dizziness, or memory loss.

Some may develop post-concussion syndrome, for days, weeks, or months after the injury,

and this could result in physical symptoms, but also other symptoms such as depression,

anxiety, confusion, impulsiveness, or other changes in personality.

Much of the time these ailments do get better as the brain heals itself.

Generally speaking, the shorter the time you were knocked out, the less chance there is

of severe symptoms occurring.

So, have you ever been knocked out?

Tell us all about it in the comments!

Also, be sure to check out our other video called This Will Happen in the Next 60 Seconds!

Sea to Summit Ultralight better than NeoAir Xlite? - Gear review - Duration: 3:39.

The Thermarest Neoair Xlite has been the undisputed king of ultralight inflatable sleeping pads

for years.

But lately competitors have come up with good alternatives and the Sea to Summit Ultralight

Insulated is my new favorite pad, let me tell you why.

But before that let's look at some of the basics.

The regular comes in at 16oz(452gr) and 17.5oz(497gr) with the stuff sack.

That means the stuff sack ways a hefty 1.5oz(42gr).

That is because since 2018 it includes a pump sack.

If you like using a pump sack, great, otherwise just leave it at home and save yourself some

weight.

The design of the pad is what makes this thing so comfortable.

Sea to Summit calls it air sprung cells and the result is a pad that's way less bouncy

than usual and offers good support over the whole length and width of the pad.

It's about 2 inches thick and It doesn't bottom out when I lie on my back or my side.

And that's with me being 6 feet(185cm) tall and weighing in at 165lbs(75kg).

If you look at the deflated pad you can see that there is no insulation on the points

where the welds are, which had me a bit worried.

But the insulation works well and I feel like it's true to the stated R-value of 3,3.

But a quick note, the large version of this pad has the same amount of insulation

as the regular which doesn't seem to be enough.

I can't personally tell you how much of a difference it makes, but according to others

the large is a lot colder than what you might expect.

Now on to why I like this pad better than the Neoair Xlite.

That pad, which is an awesome pad by the way there's a reason it's the benchmark, has

three downsides in my opinion.

First is the inflating and deflating of it.

Because of the two-way valve getting the last bit of air in can be a bit of a bitch and

the regular Xlite easily requires 20 breaths to fill, which doesn't seem like that much

but can be quite annoying at the end of a long day.

The narrow tube also makes deflating a chore because you have to sit on the pad while rolling

it up in several ways to get all the air out.

The Sea to Summit has two really big one-way valves, for easier inflating and deflating

and also requires about half the breaths of the Neoair which is quite significant.

The second downside of the Neoair is the width of it.

It feels really narrow.

And even though the Sea to Summit is only 1.6 inches(4cm) wider it makes a huge difference

because of the way the pad is constructed.

With the horizontal baffles of the Neoair the sides of the pad are the least strong

and you really have to stay in the middle.

While the cells of the Sea to Summit are just as strong on the sides as in the middle.

So you can toss and turn a lot more without falling off or bottoming out the pad, and

if you sleep on your back it's easier to keep your arms on the pad.

The last thing about the Neoair is the well known complaint that it sounds like a bag of chips.

The Sea to Summit definitely is a lot quieter, but it does make kind of a squeaky noise that

you might associate with a pool float. So it's not completely silent

However unfortunate, the Sea to Summit also isn't perfect.

To start with it's over 3oz(90gr) heavier than the Xlite.

Now for me the positive aspects of this pad outweigh those 3oz but it is considerable.

Next to that it is a bit slippery.

Some people experience the pad sliding around in their tent.

This can be fixed with a bit of silicone on the bottom, but a bit softer and less smooth surface would

be even better.

Other than that Sea to Summit created an incredible pad for Ultralight backpacking

that has increased my quality of sleep on the trail a lot.

As always, thank you for watching and if you liked this video, subscribe for more.

Heat Engines, Refrigerators, and Cycles: Crash Course Engineering #11 - Duration: 10:44.

To succeed in engineering, you have to master the art of repetition.

That applies to repetition in your own work – so that you're always designing, prototyping, testing, and then designing again.

But repetition is also key to the processes that you use as an engineer.

I'm talking here about cycles.

They can be pretty complex, but at their core, each one is just a sequence of events or steps that repeat themselves in the same order.

And that's exactly what's happening in some of the most commonly used devices that have ever been engineered,

like the heat pump that's heating your home and the refrigerator that's keeping your food from spoiling.

So, let's learn, and then repeat.

[Theme Music]

In engineering, we say that a system has undergone a cycle if it returns to its initial state at the end of the process.

So, its initial and final states should be the same.

And cycles are important because, they allow us to run through the same process again and again, instead of limiting us to doing something only once.

With the right resources, we can keep running through cycles until we get enough of what we want, like the distance traveled in a car.

We can also keep making cycles for as long as we need, say, to keep food cold in a fridge at a constant temperature.

The process that your fridge uses today is based on the work of 19th century American inventors Oliver Evans and Jacob Perkins.

In 1805, Evans came up with a closed vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, but he never actually built a refrigerator.

Then, in the 1830's, Perkins used Evans' ideas and actually did.

Perkins' system didn't succeed commercially at first, but it was the first step towards the modern refrigerators that we use today.

So how do refrigeration cycles work?

Well, it's easier to understand if we start with something similar that we already know a bit about: heat engines.

Last time, we learned that heat engines are machines or systems that convert heat into other forms of energy.

A basic heat engine can do this by taking in heat at a higher temperature, from say, solar energy or a furnace,

and then converting part of that heat to work, usually by rotating a shaft.

The engine then releases wasted heat at a lower temperature, maybe into its surroundings or a water supply, and then readies itself to start over again.

So, like so many other things, heat engines operate on a cycle.

And cycles achieve some goal, like heating or cooling a room, by circulating what's known as a working fluid through a series of operations.

This working fluid will absorb and release energy, change from liquid to vapor and back again,

and continue to circulate through the cycle as part of the system's operation.

So, let's look at a heat engine that uses water as its working fluid.

It goes through four main stages.

In the first stage, we'll add heat to our system by bringing in an energy source, QH.

The water will absorb this heat through a boiler, which will cause it to become compressed steam.

In stage two, that steam will enter a turbine, expand, and cause the turbine shaft to turn,

which gives us an output of work, Wout, which was converted from some of the heat energy in our fluid.

Remember, not all of the heat energy will convert to work.

We're going to have excess heat, which needs to be released from our system.

We do this in stage 3 by condensing the steam in a condenser, which releases that excess heat into an energy sink, QL.

For the fourth and final stage, our fluid needs to be re-pressurized.

To make this happen, we'll send it through a pump, which will need work as an input.

We'll then send the re-pressurized water back to the boiler at the beginning to start the process all over again!

That's just one cycle.

For each one that we do, we should have an output of work.

And if we look at the heat engine as a closed system, then the total changes in the kinetic energy, potential energy, and internal energy are all 0 through the cycle.

So, per the first law of thermodynamics, the changes in work and heat should equal themselves out!

Now, another way of looking at this cycle is by using a phase diagram.

Phase diagrams compare different properties to show what state or phase a substance is in.

For this example, we'll compare entropy to the temperature of the heat engine's fluid using the Rankine cycle, which is the ideal cycle for vapor power plants.

If we take a look at the diagram, all the material to the left of the curve is in a liquid phase, while all the material to the right is in a gaseous state.

Everything under the curve is a mixture of gas and liquid.

This plot lets us easily see what phase our fluid is in as it goes through each stage of the heat engine cycle.

Now, not only is the heat engine a great way to turn heat energy into work, but with a few small changes, we can turn it into a very different type of system.

Instead of trying to get work as our output, what if we tried to get heat?

Well, we do this every day when we try to heat or cool our homes!

We use heat pumps to add heat to a system when we're feeling chilly, and refrigerators to remove heat from a system when we want to keep things cool.

In either case, we put work into the system, rather than trying to get it out.

What's interesting for refrigerators and heat pumps is that, since we're aiming for an output of heat,

it's possible to get a 100% conversion from work, which we know from the second law of thermodynamics.

However, it's important to note that even though all of our work can be converted into heat,

it may not all be the exact heat we want, because we're still going to have two different temperature levels.

Now, with all that in mind, let's go back to the refrigerator.

If we're talking about the fridge in your kitchen, the inside stays cool because of what's happening on its rear exterior wall.

This is where our cycle will take place.

Just like with the heat engine, we can break this cycle down into four stages, again with a working fluid that's circulating through all the stages.

In your kitchen fridge, this working fluid is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon chemical that's usually referred to generically as freon.

The first stage of the cycle is the evaporator, which removes heat from the inside of the fridge.

It starts out with liquid fluid that's colder than the inside of the fridge, which is the result of the last stage of the previous cycle.

But we'll get to that.

So, this liquid is really cold, but its boiling point is also really low.

In fact, the liquid is just about at the temperature where it's ready to boil.

And when a liquid changes to a gas, it absorbs heat.

So when the liquid in the evaporator boils, it absorbs heat from the refrigerator at the same time.

But even though it's absorbing heat, its temperature doesn't actually change.

All that heat energy is going into changing the liquid into a gas, not raising its temperature.

Stage two is the compressor.

Its job is to raise the pressure of the gas, which also raises its temperature — and its boiling point.

After stage two is complete, the gas is really hot — hotter than the air outside the fridge.

But because its boiling point increased too, it's still around the temperature where it's ready to condense into a liquid.

Which brings us to stage three: the condenser, which is basically the opposite of the evaporator in stage one.

In the condenser, the gas turns into a liquid, a process that releases heat.

Since the refrigerant is now hotter than the air outside, heat can flow from inside the condenser to the surrounding air.

But, like in the evaporator, the temperature of the refrigerant stays constant in the condenser.

Finally, in stage four, an expansion valve throttles the liquid, lowering its pressure — and therefore, lowering both its temperature and boiling point.

It's the opposite of what happens in the compressor.

You end up with cold liquid refrigerant at a lower pressure, ready to enter the evaporator and start the process all over again,

absorbing more heat from the fridge as it boils.

So basically, the food inside your fridge stays cold because we're taking heat out from the inside of your fridge.

And we can see this all a bit more clearly if we take another look at a phase diagram, this time for a refrigeration cycle.

While similar to the phase diagram for the heat engine, we'll see a few differences in what phases our fluid is in at the different stages.

The fluid spends more time in a gaseous state and less time as a liquid than our fluid did for the heat engine.

Now, full cycles like these are great, but sometimes we'll need to have an incomplete cycle with a little outside help to get what we want.

That's because sometimes we're limited by our environments and what we have available.

So, for example, refrigerators often need electricity, but that kind of power isn't always available.

So, with a little bit of problem-solving, we can design ones that don't need it!

That was the idea behind the zeer pot.

The zeer pot is a simple refrigerator made from one earthen pot set inside another, with a layer of wet sand in between them.

It was made famous by Nigerian inventor Mohammed Bah Abba in the 1990's, but similar devices may date back all the way to Egypt around 2500 BCE.

So how does the zeer pot work?

Well, as the moisture from the sand evaporates, it cools the inner pot by "pulling" out heat.

It's a great way to have a refrigeration system in a hot climate when you have very limited resources.

But while it's pretty awesome, the zeer pot isn't quite a cycle.

Without recapturing the evaporated water, we're going to need some outside work to make our sand wet again if we want to continue the cooling process.

So, sometimes we need to forgo a perfect cycle for the sake of practically.

But all that being said, let's say we do have the resources for a refrigerator that can run on a cycle.

How can we improve this process even more?

Well, one way is by using a renewable energy resource to fuel our system and produce the work that we need!

Solar energy is a great example.

Rather than taking electricity that was made from a typical source,

we can use solar-powered photovoltaic panels to convert the sun's rays into electricity by exciting the electrons within the panel's cells.

The electricity that we'd get from this energy could replace the work that we needed for the cycle, thus making the cycle itself more reusable!

Which is great, because a big goal for us as engineers is to find ways to improve our processes, even when something is already working.

We can always improve on our designs in one way or another.

We can always take another step forward.

The refrigerators that we make now are far better than the ones that Perkins made back in the 1800's.

Our heat engines are getting more and more efficient as time goes on.

You see, the journey of an engineer is both discovery and optimization.

And we're just getting started.

So today, we learned all about cycles, what they are, and some of the systems that use them.

One of the biggest ones was heat engines.

Not only did we learn how heat engines work, but we also saw that with a few small changes,

we can create other systems too, like refrigerators and heat pumps.

We also learned about phase diagrams and the power of using renewable energy resources.

I'll see you next time, when we'll learn about fluid mechanics and momentum transfer.

WHAT IS BINGE EATING DISORDER? | Video by Psych-Minded - Duration: 4:01.

Welcome back to Psych-Minded!

I'm your host Kalley Marie and today we're going to continue on with our eating disorders

series and discuss Binge Eating Disorder.

[Intro Music]

Binge Eating Disorder is the newest, most formally recognized eating disorder currently

in the DSM.

It was added a couple of years ago, along with the main eating disorders such as Anorexia

and Bulimia.

I remember a decade ago when I first started studying eating disorders and getting really

into psychology that, this was not something that was really discussed in the realm of

eating disorders.

It was thought that if you had an eating disorder it was either one of the main such as Anorexia

or Bulimia.

And that simply is not true.

We know now that there is a lot of variation within the eating disorder realm and certainly

compulsive overeating, or Binge Eating Disorder, is a component of that.

So what's really exciting about it being formally acknowledged as a disorder, is that people

that struggle with it can actually get help through their insurance.

So that's why it makes me sort of excited that this is something that we are finally

recognizing as a disorder because there are a lot of people who feel that they cannot

control their eating habits and now we have a way for them to get the psychological help

that they need through their insurance since it is formally recognized.

I know that labels can be difficult and nobody wants to be labeled as having some sort of

disorder, but it does open up a lot of doors and sort of put people on the right pathway

to getting help out of that.

So the main symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder include eating large quantities of food, particularly

very quickly.

Someone might sit down, for example, to eat a plate of food that is 3-4 times the normal

size of a serving and do that 2 or 3 other times within 30 minutes.

So large amounts of food are being eaten in a very small amount of time.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a formal meal.

A lot of people with Binge Eating Disorder find themselves going back to the kitchen

repeatedly or just snacking on different things throughout the day without really being able

to stop.

They feel a lack of control over what they're eating, especially the ability to control

what they eat in the first place.

There is a sense of compulsion and obsession at getting the food that they desire and satisfying

that craving.

A binge episode is typically associated with the person feeling very guilty or shameful

for what they are doing.

They may only eat in the privacy of their own home or when other people are not around

because they feel a sense of shame surrounding their food intake.

Socially, just like with any other eating disorder, this makes it very difficult to

lead a normal life and can be detrimental not being able to enjoy going out with friends

or going and celebrating when food is involved.

So following one of these binge episodes, the individual with Binge Eating Disorder

is likely to feel very shameful and guilty and uncomfortable, as well as even sick to

their stomach.

Their self-esteem is likely to take a dive with each episode of binging that occurs and

they may find it impossible to find the motivation to exercise or start on a healthy diet.

Physically, you may notice somebody with Binge Eating Disorder has frequent weight fluctuations

and they may gain massive amounts of weight in a short amount of time, which can be very

physically painful and cause a lot of problems, as well.

They may complain of fatigue or stomach issues or other ailments, such as muscle aches or

joint pain.

If you or someone you know is struggling with Binge Eating Disorder, know you are not alone.

In recent years a lot of wonderful resource and advocacy has come up surrounding this

disorder in order to get people the help that they need.

Scarecrow: Kathryn

And at the end of fear...

Oblivion

Kathy: I said stay back!

Lacey: What the hell!

Kathy: I'm serious! I'm seeing things

Crane: Don't get cute

Lacey: Are you still having nightmares

Mike Engel: Dr. Crane's alleged poison in Gotham

is just another offence

Dent: If Crane is dead like the police said, then they need to find a body.

And I don't think they will

Woman on phone: Now I hear Crane is out there, spreading the toxin again

What can we do to stop this?

Crane: It's too late

You can't stop it now

Bruce: You okay?

Kathy: I don't know I just feel...

Bruce: Angry

Feel powerless

Are you?

Rachel: I believe in Harvey Dent

I know first hand, the integrity

which Mr. Dent brings to his job

He commits all his energy to fighting crime and corruption

And the results are making the city safe

Lacey: He was just perfect

Eating now. The panel tured out well

Fun fun

Going to take some pictures soon

This morning when I woke up I was chill cause I had lots of time

But then I saw the clock and it was 9

I need to be at the panel in half an hour

and I hadn't finished my makeup so i was like (swhooosshh)

It was... intresting

(anna) Gotta go fast

Wow, okey I can talk about my beautiful eyelashes

Charlie told me yesterday that in your eyelashes there is something that eats them when you have mascara

At the panel, this is funny cause I'm cosplaying Percy

First, everyone except me was going to do a bottle flip

So everyone did that and failed while I did this with my hands (jazzhands)

So it looked like i ruined it for everyone

And then! Me and Annabeth was dared to do a bottle flip

And it was super fun cause I managed to do one!

It was amazing

Everyone went like "Percy you cheated", super fun

And in my head I was like??? I can't even do bottle flips???

Antonio Delgado: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Antonio Delgado is a former rapper who is now running for Congress in upstate New York.

On Wednesday, former president Barack Obama endorsed Delgado, in a tweet which listed 81 people Obama is backing in their races.

You can see the full list of Obama's endorsements here.

The former president, writing about his endorsements, said, "Today I'm proud to endorse such a wide and impressive array of Democratic candidates – leaders as diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted as the America they're running to represent.

Antonio Delgado's critics have said that his rap lyrics — dating back ten years — are offensive and racially charged.

Here's what you need to know about Antonio Delgado:.

Delgado Released an Album, "Painfully Free," In Which He Throws Around the N-Word, Blasts Capitalism, and Slams the "Hypocrisy of Democracy".

In 2006, Delgado was an aspiring rap star.

You can see a little bit of his freestlye in this clip, where he also advertises his one and only full album, "Painfully Free." You can hear samples from "Painfully Free" here; you can also listen to it on Spotify, here.

The songs talk about "the hypocrisy of democracy" and warn that "there's a war going on.

" They throw around the n-word and attack oil executives who are "counting dollars and cents" while soldiers die in Baghdad.

Not all of the songs are available to listen to.

But according to the New York Post, Delgado's other songs also said that most "dead presidents" were white supremacists, rhyming, "Dead presidents can't represent me, not when most of them believe in white supremacy/like spittin' on my ancestry.".

Delgado, Originally From Schenechtady, Was a Rhodes Scholar Who Graduated From Harvard.

As an undergraduate, Delgado was a Rhodes scholar — he won a prestigious scholarship to study at Oxford University in England.

He spent a few years in Oxford, studying philosophy and political science.

When 911 happened, Delgado decided that he wanted to go to law school.

He got his law degree from Harvard.

While he was there, he became fascinated by what he calls "marginalized cultures" — like hip-hop and rap.

That's what inspired him to start his own music label.

After Harvard, Delgado teamed up with a friend to found a record label called Statik Music, which is how he released his own album.

He dedicated himself to the record label for five years, but finally decided that it wasn't going to be a great success.

That's when he took his bar exam, at last, and began practicing law.

Delgado's Wife, Lacey, Is a Documentary Film Maker.

The Couple Has Two Sons.

Delgado got married in 2011.

His wife, Lacey, is the managing director of Truth Aid, a New York group that makes documentaries about social issues.

Truth Aid has made films about interracial marriage, family secrets, and the environment.

Lacey is also the director of outreach in the New York office of Be'chol Lashon, a group that advocates for — and draws attention to — racial diversity among Jewish people.

Lacey and Antonio are both 40 years old.

They live in Rhinebeck, NY with their two sons, Maxwell and Coltrane.

Delgado Was a Public School Kid.

He Strongly Opposes Betsy DeVos.

Delgado grew up in Schenechtady, New York.

Both of his parents worked for General Electric, and were able to give him a middle class lifestyle.

He went to public school for most of his childhood.

As a public school kid, Delgado says he is strongly opposed to Education Secretary Betsy De Vos.

He writes, "I oppose the appointment of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education.

I believe that our children are our greatest resource, but for years, they have been treated like failing commodities.".

He calls for making it easier for young people to pay for college.

But he also wants to increase the number of trade schools and apprenticeship programs available, so that college is not the only path to a decent life.

Delgado Supports Abortion Rights.

Delgado's Republican opponent, Joe Faso, is a vocal opponent of abortion.

Delgado himself says that he supports keeping abortion legal.

He has vowed that he will, in his words, "fight to defend women's rights from an assault by the current President and Republican-led Congress.".

Delgado has also pledged to fight for equal pay for women.

He said, "It is deeply troubling that Faso voted against equal pay four times while a member of the New York State Assembly; his is not a voting record consistent with the values of our region.".

Ireland | How to get a job - Duration: 8:31.

Have you been saving money for a long time to be able to come to Ireland,

but are you're worried about running out of money once you're here?

Have you ever wondered how easy or difficult it is to get a job?

Well, stay tuned because I'm going to give you a lot of information here.

Hi guys, I'm Frankie and welcome once again to my channel.

Today we are going to talk about jobs here in Ireland and how easy it is to get one.

I know that many of the people who come to Ireland have been planning their trip

for a very long time and have been saving for many months and they already know that

n Ireland there are a lot of job offers, there are many foreign companies, most of them

rom the USA, and you can find a lot of jobs in comparison

with other countries from the European Union

But not all that glitters is gold. You will need to go and look for a job few times a day,

because not everyone have the same luck.

Because basically that's it, getting a job here in Ireland is a matter

of luck but also depends on you migratory status.

As you already know, the people who come with a student visa,

because many of us who come from Latin America come as students, have more difficulties

when getting a job, for that reason, because we come as students.

Unlike the EU citizens, that just by presenting their passport

or saying they are European, you know?

By demonstrating it, they can get a job very, very easy.

First of all, Students in Ireland can study 20 hours

and work 20 hours during college period.

During holidays, they can work up to 40 hours.

So, what?

Getting a job as a student can be a bit easy, as long as you keep in mind

that you are going to get jobs that are a little ... less wanted

by the Irish or the Europeans.

As student, you can get part-time jobs, mostly in places like for example,

n a restaurant as a kitchen Porter, as a cleaner, as a kitchen assistant: you can get in supermarkets,

fast food restaurants, you know? The big ones that are everywhere including Latin America.

You have to know that here in Ireland, large companies

will not be able to hire, or, rather, they will not want

to hire students,

because they will not want to sponsor a work visa. Remember that you are only here

as a student and they will not offer you a job position according to your profession.

So, once you come to Ireland, you have to keep in mind that,

if you have a profession in your country of origin, here it is very unlikely that

you will get a similar job if you are a student.

So, if you are lucky enough to have a passport from the European Union, or in any case,

a work visa, maybe the chances of getting a job are much higher because,

as I said before, proving that you have a European passport and that You can work here

as long as you want, that will always open many doors.

But regardless of whether you have a European passport or not, meaning that you are a student,

you have to have a good level of English.

It also depends on the type of work you want,

because if you go to deal with the public, for example, let's say that you work in a bakery or a supermarket,

and you have to talk to the public, obviously if your level of English is low, you will not be able

to get a job like that because you do not speak English.

Many times, it is also a matter of luck because there are many people who come to Ireland

and do not have a good level of English, and they get a job.

Then it is a matter of, yes, of that, of luck, of going out and leave CV's every day.

You can also apply for jobs on internet as this is very

common in here.

I'm going to leave some websites down here in the description where you can create

a profile and start applying for several job positions, depending on what you want.

It is also common to print a bunch of CV's and go out and start

leaving resumes in those kinds of stores, you know?

Stores, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.

I know many people who have been leaving CV's and they are asked

to come in and do some training for the day and that's how they get a job.

So, of course, the difference between a student and a European is that, the student cannot

opt for important positions in large companies, only for part time jobs, or jobs

jobs that not involve offices.

On the other hand, Europeans can apply for any job because

they are not limited to 20 hours a week.

Everything will vary also, depending on the city where you are, for example,

if you live in Cork, Limerick or if you live in Dublin,

where there are many job offers

but there are also a lot of people and everything else.

So, here you're always going to get a job, there's not going to be a place

where they're not looking for someone.

Then it's a matter of yourself, of going out on the street, leaving CV's,

and knowing that you have to start from scratch.

As I mentioned at the beginning, it does not matter what profession you have in your country,

emember that, you come as a student (in the case of students) and

n the case of Europeans, it is to start a new life, because

everyone comes here to do that, to start a new life.

Then, it must be clear that getting a job here is not difficult, because it is not,

but it is a matter of insisting, insisting, insisting, insisting.

The minimum wage per hour here in Ireland is 9.55 euro,

so you have to start doing your calculations, and say: if I am a student (in the case of students) I will start working

20 hours, while studying and 40 hours during holidays, is it enough?

So, you have to plan very well what you want to do.

And I know that a lot of the students come here and do not mind working on anything,

and that's very good, you know?

It is a point in your favour because you can be multitasking.

You will always hear people saying that: "No, it is difficult

to get a job".

And, for example, in the case of Dublin, that there are a lot of people, that they don't find a job,

that they do interviews and nothing, you know?

It's a matter of luck, and it's a matter of insisting and not giving up because that's the most important thing,

do not give up.

I'm telling you, here in Dublin, there are plenty of jobs.

So, here, getting a job is not difficult.

It's not difficult, because, you know?

There are so many companies looking for people, then, it is a matter ...

I have repeated it many times, but it is true, it is a matter of

going out and leaving CV's, you know?

Do it as a marathon every day, look for a job, leave CV's and apply online as well.

Because that's the way we do it here.

And you have to think and investigate about the best places

to look for a job, for example, in Dublin city centre you'll find Temple Bar, there are many

restaurants, many bars, and there you can start your journey.

You can also go to the outskirts of the city centre, where there are also restaurants,

shops ... you don't need to keep focusing only in the city centre.

There is also a lot of help through social networks.

The Latin American community here is very united and they are always posting job offers on social networks,

you know?

When a person is working in a company and there is a vacancy,

then they post it on social media...

So, what do you have to consider?

In Ireland there are a lot of job offers for students and professionals, and depending on the city where you are,

there are more offers than in the others.

For example, Dublin, as it is a large city, relatively, compared

o other cities in Ireland, and there are many people, many businesses, restaurants, pubs...

you can get a job.

And keep in mind that the minimum hourly wage is 9.55 euro. You also have to

keep in mind that if you come as a student, you can work only 20 hours

while you are in college and 40 hours while you are on holidays.

And there are no limitations for people who have a European passport.

So, this is when the question is answered: is it easy to get a job in Ireland?

es, that is the answer.

it's easy to get a job in Ireland.

As long as you are focused and know the type of job you are going to apply for

and consider as well your level of English.

Sound Like a Native English Speaker | with Gregoria Felix - Duration: 1:38.

Hey there! My name is Gregoria and I'm a native English speaker from the United States

and an English teacher. I was raised by two Haitian parents and so I also speak

Haitian Creole, or Kreyòl Ayisyen. I grew up in two very diverse,

multicultural neighborhoods in the Chicago area. In the first neighborhood, I grew up around those

who spoke French and Haitian Creole. And in the second neighborhood, I was associating

with those who spoke Spanish, Tagalog, Urdu and Polish and I came to love these people and

their cultures. I'd always find myself learning greetings and phrases in those languages and to

this day I still use those phrases when I meet people from those language groups. So just like you,

I understand your desire to want to learn English to enrich your life experiences.

What I want to help you to do is to speak and sound like a native English speaker! During your

tutoring lessons I'll help you improve your pronunciation and listening skills. I'll also help

you to improve in carrying on casual conversations as well as formal conversations and public speaking.

But what I'm really excited to help you with are English Idioms, metaphors, and other phrases

that might not make sense at first, but they will definitely have you sounding like a native English

speaker. I'm so excited to learn more about your culture and what interests you. I can't wait for our

first lesson together. See you soon!
